Let's start with the shining star, which is the service. The ladies in here were super sweet and very attentive. The boy ordered a salad, and I'm sure someone hand picked the cabbage out of the mix, and the boy absolutely loved it, and ate every bite! We came in because it popped up on best catfish in Wise county. The menu online said all you can eat on Fridays. However, I didn't ask, and if it was an option it wasn't offered, so we were served catfish baskets. When I asked for lemon for my catfish, someone went in the back and cut me an entire lemon and brought it to our table, how sweet! The fries were hand cut and salty, and the tator tots were crispy. The fried squash was the best thing on the table! However, the catfish were two tiny filets, and the tartar sauce was almost straight mayo. Made my first visit to Mel's Place a few weeks ago and they did not disappoint. Enjoyed the Chicken Fried Steak (real beef cutlets) and gravy and the fresh hand cut French fries and a salad. CFS was so tender and seasoned very well. It was all soooo good. Waitress was very attentive and helpful. When she brought me my ticket, she said I'm sure you have someone among your family or friends that are in the military so I'm giving you that discount. As I was waiting for my receipt of payment, the cook (not sure if he is the owner) stopped by to ask how all my food was which is almost unheard of. They are a small business that serves great food, works hard and I'm sure would love you to check them out. Let's all eat and shop local! read more

Wonderful hole in the wall. Don't let the outside full you. Went in for breakfast, a few of us had the Buffett $12, a great deal. Had my doubts when I first got there since I was only one there. They said they just recently started serving dinner. The service was great and quick and server very courteous . Cheeseburger tasted like any other one that I have eaten, nothing special about it. I will go back. read more

If you are ever in Boyd this is a must try. Good ole Home cooking and very affordable. We got lucky and could still order breakfast at 11:15(stops at 11:00) because it was slow I got a scrambler (eggs,bacon,hash browns),on top of a biscuit with cream gravy. We also got a waffle 2 eggs and bacon and a breakfast sandwich on Texas toast. Husband got catfish and 2 veggies.. we all left very full and the whole bill was only 25.00!! read more

Mel's Place is great. I love their breakfast and if you go on a Saturday or Sunday they have a breakfast buffet. Their burgers and fries are also great, if you like fresh cut fries and burgers cooked on a flat top it is a must try. read more

My husband and I met friends at Mel's Place for lunch recently. We are new to the area and were looking for a great place to get together with friends for food and fellowship. Mel's Place did not disappoint. We were at the restaurant for almost two hours, eating and catching up with friends. The food and service were awesome! The meatloaf special was superb, as well as, the burgers and chef salad. The only disappointing food item was the French fries....pretty limp. Other than that, everything else was super delicious! Our drinks were never empty! The kind lady who served as the sole waitress and server never stopped working hard. UPDATE: I just want to say that I gave this place another try a week ago and I was not disappointed. This time around we were served our food pretty quick, even though the placed was pretty crowded. The service was awesome and the food was great. I will definitely be coming back. I also noticed there were more people working and that they are open until 8:00 p.m. The food is great... BUT the wait is slow. We had to wait for over an hour to get our food. We probably should've left sooner but since it was raining we stayed. If they could just solve the time issue and how fast people are served this place would get 5 stars from me... read more

The food was great but they are not following Covid guidelines. If that concerns you, avoid this place. Over crowded, waitresses not wearing masks, no social distancing. Well its a wet drizzle coming down on Friday night. So we decided to grab something close by. We hadn't been here for the Catfish yet, so why not give it a try. We opted for the Catfish plate, instead of the All you can eat. You get two sides, four nice thick fillets, couple hush puppies and drink for $9.99. Needless to say, I barely finished my fillets and the wife left one. The Mac and cheese could have used a little bit more cheese in it, as the macaroni was kinda flat. I kept biting a chunk of something in the mashed potatoes, hope it was some tater that didn't get mashed enough. Be careful of the hush puppies, they have some kick with bits of jalapeño in them. Oh and the onion rings for an appetizer. These were some rings for sure. Would have been better with sweet Vidalia onions and less batter though. All in all, we left with full bellies and will be back for more. They said the owner was waiting tables it was so busy tonight. Might have to meet him some time. read more

I have been looking forward to a chance to try the food at Mel's Place, and unfortunately I came away totally disappointed. We got there a little bit after noon and we found a place to sit down fairly quickly, there were four of us in our group 2 adults and two small children. There was no offer for crayons or coloring pages of any kind for the kids to keep them occupied while we waited, and it took 10 minutes for someone just to take our order for drinks. Once the drinks got to the table our order was taken, and to simplify everything I just ordered a cheeseburger, french fries, and my drink was sweet tea. My companion also ordered a hamburger with cheese and onion rings. For the kids we got a grilled cheese sandwich, and some fried okra. We asked for two waters for the kids and they put straws in the cups that we're about a foot tall, it made for a big hassle for the kids and I didn't have a pair of scissors to cut them down to a smaller size. But as I was checking out I noticed that they had short straws, but they didn't bother putting them in the kids drinks. It took almost an hour for our food to arrive, about 55 minutes to be exact. And all this time we're sitting there with two small children and I can tell you that wasn't a whole lot of fun. Once the food got there I tried the fries, they looked crispy but they turned out to be soggy and limp. The burger was not seasoned and pretty much nothing special. It had one slice of tomato, two small pieces of pickles, and a limp piece of lettuce. I was very disappointed in my meal. My companion gave me an onion ring, which was probably three times the normal size of an onion ring, and it tasted great compared to everything else. It seemed to take forever just to get the meal paid for, and I can tell you I will never go back under any circumstances. I only gave it two stars because I liked the onion rings, and the ice tea was pretty good. Don't waste your time or your money here, my $10 hamburger was definitely a waste of money I could've gotten a better burger at Sonic or Whataburger and I would've gotten it in a couple of minutes instead of waiting almost an hour. read more

The service is poor and very slow. There were only two other people in the restaurant and my order was to go on a Friday They were out of ketchup. The fan above the counter area and the cameras were packed with dirt/dust where they prep some food. The parking lot has hugh pot holes and was a muddy mess.
