I was in Shelbyville checking out a couple of cars. My friend and I decided to grab a sandwich. As she knew of my fondness for Culver's, she immediately suggested this location. Culver's is a national chain with local ownership. There are certain things you can always depend on - interior and exterior design is generally consistent, Butterburgers, friendly employees (the entire recruiting vibe emphasizes family and a supportive environment), and a menu that is generally consistent from location to location. This location did seem to have a larger than usual parking lot. Culver's tends to do well with accessibility features, and they do offer outdoor tables (you order at the counter inside or the drive-thru). I'd always had a fondness for Culver's as my mother used to sell them their food in Central Indiana. However, during my cancer journey I found that butterburgers became a food worked on my stomach even during chemo. I have no idea why, but it was consistently true. I'm not particularly fond of the fries. Sometimes, I get a combo with cole slaw. Sometimes, I'll splurge on onion rings. I frequently just get a double butterburger with my unsweetened iced tea. This visit was quite positive. The employees were friendly, efficient, and quite professional. The food was tasty. The iced tea actually had ice in it (the Culver's by my house has a tendency to hand me an iced tea that has no ice - I have no idea why.). This was a quick visit. I would easily return. I always think Shelbyville is way far away. While I wouldn't say it's close to my Lawrence home, it's actually a pretty easy drive and a cool little city to visit.

At yesterday's Statehouse Market in downtown Indy, I finally got a chance to try out The Legendary…read moreKitchen. This is a food truck that comes out of Franklin, Indiana's Legends Golf Club. It's decorated in a light golf theme with colorful graphics and a fun spirit. It's got two windows - an ordering window and a pick-up window - and it's definitely a rather large food truck. The menu here was fairly simple with some basic American classics including a hand-breaded tenderloin, hand-breaded spicy chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, chicken salad (I sense a theme going on here), a basket of fries, some drink options, and it seems like there are some other options that occasionally surface on the menu. The Legendary offers meals - so, for example, the sandwiches generally come with fries. I opted to order chicken tenders with fries for $13. They had 3 sauces - barbecue, honey mustard, and one other I'm forgetting. I had barbecue. There was a decent wait in the line, though that's certainly not on The Legendary. Once I ordered, things were ready fairly quickly and they were actually served hot. I will say that the plate-type container used is a little flimsier than I would like. I opted to eat outside, but even when I tried to carry it to the trash I had trouble doing so. The employees were friendly. They were busy, but maintained a nice professional decorum. I was honestly amazed at the generosity of the serving. I would almost call the chicken "slabs" rather than "tenders." They were nicely sized, fresh, clearly hand-breaded, and absolutely delicious. I usually complain about the elevated prices at a food truck, but I'd pay $13 for this food anywhere. The fries were nicely seasoned. They were sort of steak fries - definitely thicker - and they perfectly complemented the tenders. If I were to compile a list of my top 5 Statehouse Market meals, there's no doubt this meal would be on it. I loved everything about it. In fact, the only reason I might not order it again was because it was actually such a generous serving that I could barely eat it all. While I will admit I wish the plate situation was a tad more stable, this is a 5-star experience all the way. I'd love to see Yelp's Rick G., a tenderloin blogger in real life, try this tenderloin out. I think it may very well be the rare food truck tenderloin to be worth your time. Workers delivered food in a timely manner with a couple hiccups that were quickly corrected. I ordered a single burger and fries. Food was fresh and hot. Your order is delivered in a white paper bag, and that doubles as your plate. Next time I will get a double burger instead of single, as the comments were positive. Grilled onions are a nice option. Reasonable prices, I paid $12.36 for burger, fries, drink, taxes and tip. Burger Poet is a nice addition to our community. I feel like they are testing the market here, so give them some business and hopefully we will be able to enjoy a full menu soon.
