My wife and I are originally from the near suburbs of Chicago (now in Franklin). But being from Chicago area, we both knew where to get a great tasting Gyros when hungry. We occasionally go to Shelbyville for some issues. We have driven past King Gyros and finally stopped in for dinner. We both had the regular Gyros on a pita sandwich, shared a large order of fried mushrooms and a soda. The Gyros and the fried mushrooms were delicious (to be honest maybe better than where we use to eat in Chicago). The meat was piled on! The sauce was tasty but not overbearing (did not hide the taste of the meat). The pita was fresh and thick enough to hold the sandwich together, just terrific. The fried mushrooms were cooked perfect, crispy on the outside and moist and firm inside. Also reasonably priced. One of the best meals we've had since moving to Indiana. It is a family-owned business, and they are warm and friendly. The eating area could have been a bit cleaner. But after tasting the food, there it really didn't matter. The chili cheese fries were topped with canned chili and the standard toxic-waste nacho cheese sauce you get at a ballpark or movie theater. OK - that works. We have driven by hundreds of times and didn't think about stopping in. King's is in an old closed Long John Silvers and therefore we associated it with bad memories. But during the restrictions of the pandemic we noticed longer and longer lines at their drive-up. So we went to YELP to see why and found very good reviews. Their menu has a wide variety of sandwiches and pub food. What is completely a surprise is the quality and quantity of the food at a very moderate price. My wife and I had the Gyro with Feta and shared the Greek salad. Bottom line is it's the very best gyro we have had and would even compete well with gyros in the Greek community of Tarpon Springs. One gyro was sufficient for two seniors so we were able to enjoy the other one for another meal. The Greek salad is authentic and loaded, no packed with the freshest feta cheese you could hope for. We should know not to judge a book by its cover and Kings affirmed that point clearly. Hats off to the owner and what you have added to this small community. read more

One of my favorite places in Shelbyville! Good food, large portions, great prices, always clean, great service, and always packed for lunch! Their gyro meat doesn't have an overwhelming amount of lamb in it. It has more beef. Their tzatziki (gyro) sauce is excellent with just the right amount of bite and not too much cucumber. Pitas are always fresh and warm. Feta cheese is YUM! Most of the fried food and french fries are your normal run of the mill food service food, but that doesn't mean they aren't good. I would opt for their Greek side salad instead of fries, though. I would like to see different types of lettuce than just iceberg. I haven't had everything here yet- mostly because their gyros are just too darn good, but they are voted best ribs in Shelbyville! The baklava is made by the regional Kronos Greek food company and is spectacular. The BEST PART? The FAMILY! These are some of the nicest people! They are so friendly and LOVE this community, but also have stories of how beautiful it is on the Mediterranean! I am so happy to see them and they recognize me. I don't think any of us know anyone's name, but they're super friendly none the less. And that's part of the small town charm. They care about all of us and we care about them. Within a week of the COVID-19 restrictions, the local community page had posts reminding us to still do takeout at our favorite restaurants- KG by name. I am not in Shelbyville often and I see the report that it is closed, but it is not. The service was good and the food was great! I have struggled to find a good fish sandwich so I decided to try King Gyros and I was not disappointed!! A large piece of fish, perfectly cooked and served with plenty of condiments on it. As usual for any of the King Gyro locations, the fries were delicious - the best. And the price was reasonable. I just ate ribs with a plastic fork with no struggle! What a feat. This was my first time eating here. Places like this usually don't get me excited, but word around the community was positive. Had been fantastic ever since it first opened but now I go in and place was filthy. All tables was sticky like syrup and even found what looked like a tennis shoe print on one table. In the drink station it was all sticky and the floor included. I Don't know what the difference is here but it's gone waaaaaaaay down hill. Cole slaws been tasting rotten too. Opened November, 2016. Nice remodel of the previous Long John Silvers. The couple of times I have been there it has been fairly busy and I have no complaints. You order, pay and wait for your number to be called. They do a good job of preparing your order according to Eat in or Carryout. Food has been hot. I have only sampled a couple of items but the quality has been good. The Gyro platter is a good choice if you want a LOT of extra meat with your Gyro. It comes with everything to make up your own Gyro plus fries. Kinda of a pain to have to cut up the tomatoes etc before putting on the Pita and does not come with any Greek Olives which I thought was a little strange. Other than that, it is pretty reliable to get some fairly quick, made to order hot food. The menu has a lot of items to choose from. Gyros, Italian Beef, Greek Chicken, BBQ Chicken, Ribs, Rib Tips, numerous types of sandwiches, etc. Again each order is made up fresh, so you wait a few minutes but the food is fresh & hot. Oh Shelbyville, don't let go of this gem. Great spot to go to lunch. I don't come to S-ville often, but my husband works there and he says this is a normal lunch spot since they've opened. Their gyro plate is huge and delicious. Seriously, I could not stop eating the slices of meat! They were tender and crispy on the outside, just how it's supposed to be! The tzatziki sauce was slightly bland but not terrible. I wish they'd crumble their feta more--I had to fight with huge cubes (which ultimately not the worst thing) but I think they're wasting feta by giving people giant chunks of them. Ahhhh sweet sign of relief that my hometown finally got something ethnic, non-fast food, non-crappy chinese and non-vomit inducing Mexican! King Gyro's is located in the old Long John Silvers. The layout is still the same inside but it's clear they have remodeled the decor, updated the booths etc. It appears like the entire family works there because everyone was Greek. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a huge gyro fan. But I am so glad I tried this. I believe they make their own pita bread as I saw a press in the back. The chicken gyro was full of white breast meat chicken that you could tell wasn't frozen or canned. Homemade tzaziki sauce. Alone all I could shove into my belly was the gyro because it's a very ample portion. But I did try some of my husband's fries. They have freshly made baklava sitting on the counter for only $1.50. Seriously, I think a Greek grandma made it. I truly hope the town can embrace an alternative to the food options in Shelbyville and that patrons will frequent this spot.
