If you want cardboard crust pizza, Melting Pot pizza is for you! My boys and I came from out of town excited to try pizza from a place that has been in business in Front Royal for over 40 years. We were disappointed. I am a fan of thin crust pizza, yet ours had a dry, hard crust and - combined with the interesting choice of cheese - was fairly tasteless. This is probably a 4 star joint, but after reading some of the absurd 1 star reviews of this place, I'm spotting them another star. Their pizza is a thin & crispy style pizza, with toppings to the edge. If that's not your preference, then you might not like the type of pizza. Giving this place a 1 star review is like someone form Brooklyn giving a Chicago deep dish pizza joint a 1 star because the sauce is on top. That not how this works...that's not how any of this works! Anyway back to the crust. It's thin, it's crispy, it's coated with cornmeal. Because it's so thin, it doesn't make you walk out feeling like you've just swallowed an anvil either. That said, you'll probably scarf more pizza down than you'd expect. A large pepperoni was easily devoured by me, my wife and our 2.5yo toddler. I can't comment on the other toppings, but they looked pretty good judging by the pizzas on surrounding tables. Ok. So I haven't been in this area very long. When I first got here I asked around about the best pizza place, and everyone I talked to said "Melting Pot". Well, I should have specified that I was looking for a great pizza place that wasn't inconvenient and was friendly. I got neither of those things here. I've been more than once, and I waited to publish this review because I wanted to like this place. My first experience was a bust. Then the second was even more of a bust. Third...well, I was pissed off. To be clear and fair; people weren't lying. Melting Pot has excellent pizza. I crave it sometimes. Best in the area for sure.....but; I won't bother with this place anymore. I just don't think I can support cash only businesses, short of flea markets and garage sales, anymore. To me cash only says; tax dodger. Why else would you run such a business in this day and age with so much reliable tech? Hmmm? Second reason; the staff are just rude AF! Pretty solid thin crust pizza (almost New Haven / CT style but not as thin). Cooked well with generous toppings. I would prefer a tad more cheese (story of my life). Jalapeño poppers are also decent. Cheddar cheese filled served with ranch dressing. Cups stay full and food comes out piping hot. To-go cups are offered and filled when you're fixing to leave. What a wonderful old pizza parlor we discovered yesterday in Front Royal, VA! We're here on vacation and visited upon the recommendation of our tour guide, Jordan, at Skyline Caverns who said, "Front Royal *exists* because of Melting Pot Pizza!" :) The place was packed! My pepperoni pizza was extremely good. The crust was absolutely delectable. I enjoyed that the pieces were square and quite small, similar to Ledo Pizza's style. My wife's veggie pizza disappointed her because of the bland sauce. Our service was polite but not effusive. As stated before, I'm a pizza snob, but really, we're in Front Royal, whatever. I should've gone to McDonalds...or Pizza Hut. The crust is thin, I'll give them that. It's hard and crispy. However it was overloaded with so many toppings and no cheese or sauce I felt like I had crackers with veggies on it. I sprinkled cheese on it, pepper flakes. EVEN SALT!! Who puts salt on pizza?!?! Had I written this review after my first visit, the score would have undoubtably been 4 or 5. The problem is between visits 1 and 2 I had a swing through New Jersey. If a swing through New Jersey doesn't ruin you permanently for Pizza, Jewish Deli's and Diners, you planned your trip wrong. That said, while it was some of the best I had ever had before the trip, it didn't even make the top 10 after the trip. The only reason I can think that they are obsessed is because they've actually never traveled anywhere else to get a good pie. They had some domestics and then a few different IPAs and a Heif on tap, reasonable priced as well. The Pizza: Ordered a pepperoni pizza since it was our first time so we had a good standard. Got the pizza and it was SO floury the crust was CAKED in flour at the bottom. Super thin crust sauce wasn't anything special either. Fries: I'm pretty sure they ran to McDonald's and asked to borrow a frozen bag or two. My second experience: Wings, fried pickles, & beer Beer: still on point, no complaints Fried pickles for an app: they were pretty damn awesome pickle spears! can't really screw those up though! Wings- I am a wing snob and only ask for flats, and I will say I was impressed. their sauce was very wet and they said they make their sauce in house. I was impressed. This is our go-to for pizza HANDS DOWN..... I will call the crowd "eclectic" for lack of a more appropriate or politically correct term. But, you know what? It doesn't matter. The pizza here attracts people of all kinds and that's what makes it fantastic. Their crust is paper thin piled high with finely chopped toppings and each pie is cut into tiny squares (I guess so you don't feel like such a cow). It's also greasy but in the best of ways. if you don't want to eat it here, you can order a pie "half-baked" and take it home. Definate gem. This was a great find in Front Royal for our family to meet for dinner and celebrations. Halfway point between Harrisonburg and Northern VA! All agree it is worth the drive. Pizza excellent. Greatest feature is the crust--very thin and crispy. Virtually all toppings are available. Sauce is flavorful making a pizza that blows the pizza chains out of the water. Great selection of appetizers--we like the fried pickles and jalapeno poppers. Beer on tap is a plus. We've been fortunate to have Chloe serve us for two birthday dinners--she was A+ attentive and ensured plenty of ice cream to accompany our cake. Atmosphere is very family casual. I've been going to the Melting Pot since I was born. I grew up around here and even after we left and moved to NoVA I still spent almost every weekend here as a kid. My dad still owns a couple homes out here so when I get the chance to come up I always go to the Melting Pot for lunch, dinner or both. It's some of the best thin crust pizza I've ever had and try as I might to find another place that cooks it in this style, I have failed to find one. This place has truly thin crust. If it where any thinner it wouldn't exist. I usually get a large works pizza covered in pepperoni, green peppers, onions, mushrooms and sausage. Generally I have them remove the green peppers and add more sausage. They are a little stingy with the sausage so if you like that you need to ask them to be a little heavier on it. The place itself has changed a lot since I was a kid. It has expanded quite a bit from the original part of the restaurant. My favorite part about this place, the smoking section is the largest section encompassing almost the entire dining room. Generally you expect to find the smoking section tucked back in the corner by the bathrooms and small, but not here...here the non-smokers are tucked away in the back corner by the bathrooms. For once. While the pizza is really their specialty they also offer subs which are good and some really good buffalo wings. I'd rank them up their in the top 5. If you are ever in Front Royal, headed to Skyline Drive or just coming up to go canoeing, make sure you stop by the melting pot and get a pizza. I always ordered for delivery with this place because it was nearly impossible to get into the place on a weekend without having to fend through a crowd. While the pizza was always very good, I sometimes felt the delivery drivers were rude. I had one delivery driver walk right THROUGH my flower bed and hedges instead of up the walkway and through the entrance between the flowers and hedges to get to my front door. They did not skimp on the toppings like the local Papa Johns did, however, I'm not so sure they're worth the price. Very pricey in comparison to the national chains. read more

I grew up in the shadows of the Big Apple her self, on good New York Sicilian style (thin crust) pizza and this place isn't that. Their meat lovers is chock full of meat and their sauce has a bite while the taste is ok the crust is very disappointing. I got two large meat lovers and two extra cheese cheese pizzas and it cost about 70 dollars. If the crust wasn't so disappointing I would give 3 stars but given my history and pizza standards and no credit cards this is only a 2 star (at best) for me. By the way they only use provolone cheese on their pizza, all I can say is total Philistines, go to New York and learn how a good pizza is really made. read more

My favorite pizza in the world!!! I know, bold statement, but its the truth. I love thin crust pizza, and the Melting Pot is the essence of thin. They cut the pizza into tiny squares, not your traditional triangular slices. The pizza is always crisp, piping hot, and covered in fresh toppings. They also have good french fries. The place is reasonably priced and service is normally pretty good. However it is a smoking establishment, so that might turn some off (it does me, but not enough to stay away). I used to live about a half hour from here and would still drive there on a regular basis to get my Pot fix. Cant wait to go back when Im home again. read more

The pizza was worth the drive and the hospitality shown by our server Kim (Kimberly) was so perfect. For once in a longgg time, I had ZERO complaints because our server Rocked! Pizza is good, not great, but don't ever go there on a Friday or Saturday evening unless you want to wait over an hour for your pizza. Also, you won't find a place to park and they have, inexplicably, left chunks of concrete in their parking lot where an old sign used to be that someone probably drove into and ruined. Instead of hauling the concrete away, the owners decided to leave it there where it's not visible at night so that their customers can ruin their tires driving over it. Classy. Not a fan!! Really great food. The pizza is the best around. Sweet tea is also amazing here. Good family fun atmosphere. The waitress was super nice and attentive to us. She had a lot of tables and was really good T keep up with all. Only complaint is the young girls trying to play hostesses. They were a total mess Friday night. Seated families at tables that were too big for the party, instead of breaking them up and seating more people to make more space in the waiting area.
