pretty cool place, theres a place similar to this in gettysburg (maryland) and ive since been trying to find a place similar but here around the LA area, none have really came close but this one was definitely up there. Immediately walking in i was impressed by everything, i was super stoked to find they had bat taxidermy and rabbits feet. Had a lot of cool stuff and prices werent bad at all i had bought two rings which were real silver and a smaller bat hanging upside down in a dome which was all around $180 (?), the bat was $65 which was a really good price for me, someone i went with had gotten a bigger dog faced bat and it was around $160 - $180 which isnt bad. They had a bunch of different taxidermy and stuff, they had octopus tentacles, owl taxidermy, awesome jewelry and some stuff for rituals, they also had a few vintage dolls which were awesome. For the staff id definitely say its opinionated, i understand some of the other reviews of the person working not being super welcoming or even acknowledging them walking in or saying hello or anything, for my experience there definitely wasnt a "Hello" or "let me know if you need help" or anything when i had walked in and the guy working wasnt too talkative, for me personally i didnt mind this and didnt think anything of it, im naturally quiet but can be talkative when someone talks to me but after already socializing a lot in other stores it was a nice quiet breath of air to just roam the store and not have to interact with anyone, the guy working though was definitely helpful when we needed help though and if he saw that we (me and the people i was with) needed help getting something down or just getting something in general he'd offer help, for me i actually liked this since he was still helpful and super friendly and nice when he would help me and he was still aware so before i even asked for help with anything he was already asking if i needed help, which i liked a lot, i could tell he was definitely a little awkward especially when checking me out but it was just a little laugh since i myself am sometimes awkward when socializing so i could understand he was naturally quiet too. I do get for some other people though they do appreciate staff being very present and welcoming and like a little "Hi let me know if you need help with anything" when entering but of course thats everyones personal preference. Along with the staff he was very helpful on letting us know how to hold the taxidermy since someone i went with had gotten a bigger hanging bat but it was his first ever taxidermy so he didnt know how to hold it since it was a walk back to the car, he was very helpful on telling and showing him how to hold it so it wouldnt swing too much and maybe break or get messed up. Overall ill definitely be coming back and i definitely recommend coming here, the pieces are super cool and the pricing is honestly great, staff is friendly and helpful when they need to be but they are on the quieter side so for some people this can come off as maybe rude or unwelcoming but just keep in mind some people are naturally quiet and the guy working was actually pretty cool when we needed help with anything! read more

Dark decor, macabre gifts, spiritual and metaphysical shop worth your wandering explorative eyes and/or collections. Memento Mori is a slice of oddities and curiosities of all kinds for sure... From smoky quartz, amethyst and incenses to your accessories, skeleton keys and figurines to books, nooks and break in case of emergency vampire emergencies. They have some fun vintage movie posters, including in magnet form in the mix I'll definitely be back for! This Hollywood hidden gem sits pretty much by itself across from the Amazon Prime Experience theater off Wilcox Avenue/Sunset Blvd between Sunset and Selma Avenue. Street parking (meter), local parking garages and lots or the metro (a short stroll from Hollywood/Vine) are your foeful friend. Great customer service and so many attentions to detail displayed throughout their entire store. One thing I truly enjoyed/enjoy about Memento M. is their support of others, including several look clubs, organizations and events like the iconic She's in Parties goth night event every 4th Friday of the month. Open from Noon (12pm) to 6 daily, Thursday through Tuesday, with the exception of Wednesdays when they rest (are closed). read more

After Necromance, sadly, closed their brick and mortar shop, there was a brief period in time where their combination of taxidermy and Victoriana was no where to be seen. I'm a big fan of Gold Bug in Pasadena, but they are not quite as "dark" in their aesthetic. Memento Mori, on the other hand, feels like a pretty good replacement. So, what are you going to find here? Well, as you may have guessed from my intro, taxidermy. The classic boars and deer heads preserved as wall ornaments...but also delicate butterflies beautifully arranged under glass domes. While no where near as extensive a collection of preserved animal parts as Necromance, there still is a decent collection, particularly for decor. Memento Mori also lacks the strong mothball smell that permeated the aforementioned store. There is a large collection of silver jewelry incorporating classic taxidermy elements, such as glass eyes. And lots of trinkets for those of a "gothic" aesthetic. They also carry a number of very comfortable tshirts bearing variations of their logo, one of which currently hangs in my closet. Memento Mori also appears to serve as a gothic community center: they always have flyers and posters advertising events such as Endless Night, a vampire-themed ball, or gothic-themed fairs for artisans. So, definitely worth a visit if your aesthetics or predilections lean to the darker side of life. read more

I've heard about Memento Mori shop in LA from friends & recently saw one of their ads on social media that sparked curiosity. Their website is caters to wide range interests in crystals, decorative figurines and wall mounted art that's affordable. I came across this beautiful Blue Onyx Cat. The affordable price made me skeptical so I took a chance and made a first time purchase. Living in NYC, I thought shipping would take up to a full week but it arrived, carefully packaged, a few days later without additional expedited shipping charges. Im so glad bought it. It's beautiful, well weighted & certainly worth slightly more than I paid. This shop is the real! This fascinating small shop is well worth a visit. It's dark, brooding, and creepy, with wares from games to jewelry to large and small decor items and many other categories. A really interesting collection. The staff member when we visited was patient, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, and seemed genuinely interested in the customers. probably one of the most beautiful stores i have ever visited. i decided to treat myself on my birthday to something strange and macabre. parking was easy to find on a weekend morning! i walked in and was immediately called to this raven perching on skulls incense burner. i bought it and it is my favorite burner to use. i also purchased a set of high quality sterling silver sword earrings and they are also my favorite accessory to this day. the taxidermy here is gorgeous. the victorian era wallpaper is to die for. the glass domes everywhere and the framed insects are just perfectly placed. there are items that you wouldn't see everyday and that's exactly what i needed. the staff is very kind and helpful. overall, i loved my visit and will be back for more. remember you must die read more

I live in the neighborhood, stumbled upon this beautiful place one day with friends. I was mesmerized upon walking into the store. Not only are the window displays beautifully put together, they are what initially draw you in. I was slightly heartbroken I came here- only because I couldn't afford to buy more! We went around looking for this shop, hoping to fit it in a small time frame we had open. There is metered parking and luckily we found a spot right in front as we arrived. The shop is on the smallish side but has lots of beautiful things to see! Although some items definitely cost more, there was plenty of goodies for those on a budget as well. I liked that the cashier quietly let us explore on our own and was really sweet when we purchased one of the bats on display, taking the time to carefully wrap everything to go. Pretty cool shop! I'm an avid collector of all things dark and spooky so I was excited to visit this place. I had walked by previously when it was closed and made a mental note to return during store hours. My boyfriend and I walked in and I said hello to the worker and he responded with a "hello". We continued to shop around and look at all the different cases and interesting items. I was looking in a jewelry case that the employee was standing behind and I just thought it was a bit odd that no one asked me if I had questions or wanted to see anything. He just kind of stared into the distance instead of acknowledging or interacting with me. I know every store is a little different and I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot but I think in a specialty shop like this, a little "hey folks, feel free to look around. I made a specific detour on my trip to come to this store and wasn't really impressed by the items. A few cool animal skeletons and a few art pieces I would hang on my wall. It's also disheartening to be excited to walk into a place by the first time and not be acknowledged by an employee when you are the only two people in the place.. guess it's an L.A. thing? ... this kind of stuff is my jam and I was left unimpressed. Drove in from Burbank just to check our Memento Mori today....found meter parking, walked over... the store was open but the door was locked with a note that said "be back in 15" but they hadn't put the time they left so 15min from when? I waited 10 min, four more customers started waiting outside with me. I waited 15 more min with them. They left. Waited 5 more min and no one ever came back, during business hours, to open the door. Wonderful store. Happy people. A lot of shops in this vein tend to have a tacky vibe, but everything here is of genuine quality and, dare I say, tasteful. The owners are a couple and are extremely welcoming as well as helpful. I've been here 4-5 times already and have brought friends. We all have bought stuff here. Hard-to-find items for a great price. I now am a proud owner of a moose head because of the festive display during the holidays. A friend of mine bought some great magazines to add to her WWII collection. Another bought some "Dia de Los Muertos" coasters. Always something exciting on their instagram! As for pricing? Another friend said, "I don't understand, their pricing is really low for this area!" i love this place. i was bummed for ages that one of the few gothy curio shops was necromance due to their penchant for being bitchy, illegal taxidermy, and nazi memorabilia. while my tastes lean toward the darker side of things, i don't want to see illegally obtained kingfishers for sale next to swastika christmas ornaments, you know? but enough throwing shade... memento mori is fantastic. the staff is incredibly nice. super nice, super chatty, super helpful, just awesome. nothing is tacky or trashy or feels dark and spooooooky. like, they get it. the shop is unpretentious and sells some incredible artwork and curios. it sort of feels like a cross between paxton gate and loved to death while still being 100% its own thing, which i totally love. definitely worth checking out, especially for the new wave altar candle collection and their ethical taxidermy collection. read more

My boyfriend and I came here a couple of weekends ago. There were so many things I loved that I left with nothing - I couldn't decide so I went home to sleep on it. We didn't make it back the next day and I was a bit bummed. Fast forward a week, and my boyfriend went back and bought a ton of things I loved for my birthday. He picked up a gorgeous wooden square framed mirror, a Jesus portrait in a gold frame, a wooden Joe Frazier portrait and my favorite - this really gorgeous red glass jar with a golden rooster top (What can I say? - I'm a sucker for really beautifully colored glass.). We talk about going back almost every weekend, but haven't made it back yet. We're well on our way to decorating our beautiful loft with treasures from this killer spot.
