BioLife is one of the best plasma donation chains I've seen due to its high payout prices and number of locations across state lines. I've only had good experiences at any BioLife location I've been to, so I truly don't understand the multitude of negative reviews left here. For anyone that hasn't donated plasma before, your first visit will take a couple hours but it won't take that long each time. You will do an initial screening procedure where you answer a questionnaire, undergo a physical exam, take your vitals, etc. During the actual donation process, you will be hooked to a machine via IV where cycles will be run: you alternate between the blood collection phase where you pump your fist while the blood pressure cuff adds some pressure, then the machine will release the cuff while it processes the plasma and returns the blood back to your system. After the plasma is collected, a saline solution runs through the IV and into your body. This process takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes depending on how much plasma you're able to donate. One thing about plasma donation is that the place is kept cold to help with temperature regulation. Every time I donate, I bring a pair of socks to squeeze during the donation process, a sweatshirt, a blanket, and some sort of entertainment like a book or my headphones. While I can't take photos inside the location due to HIPPA violations, the space is well lit and very clean. I've been going to this location for about 4 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. Every single staff member I've interacted with is very kind. Yes, there may be some long wait times and long lines during peak hours, but it's truly manageable. Anyone who has worked in customer service can empathize with the experience of having long lines while you're working as fast as you can; that's just life sometimes! As long as you are understanding and respectful, staff members will treat you the same. Sometimes you may have bad experiences if you have a bad attitude LOL. Overall, I recommend everyone I know to donate plasma. During my first month donating, I made $1,000 and since then I've given a couple hours of my week each week to make some good money quite easily. BioLife has so many locations across the country; I can always find a close location next to my home and my college campus. I will always recommend BioLife to anyone looking to donate plasma!

Over the years, the only problems I've had are with an incorrectly set IV (which they would have gladly fixed, but I gutted it out), a mix-up as to what I was donating (plasma vs. platelets), and a lack of COVID protocols early in the pandemic (addressed since then). Setting up an appointment is easy on-line, or you can call, or answer one of their texts or phone calls. A reminder text comes in 1-2 days before. It's easy to re-schedule if you need to (as well as polite to do so). I typically arrive 5 minutes before my appointment. Check-in at the front desk is easy, and a nurse typically brings me back within 5-10 minutes. Ideally you fill out your donor survey before you come in, as it saves time for you and the nurse. They get your vitals (BP, iron count, pulse, temp, weight), check to see which vein the want to tap, and then bring you to your padded, reclined chair to start the process. I typically read a book on my phone, but you can also use a chair-side TV to watch Netflix, or tap into their free wifi. Blood donations only take 30 minutes, whereas plasma is an hour (for me at least, but I'm slow), and platelet donations can take multiple hours. The nurse will let you know how you're doing along the way. My biggest gripe is that my nurse typically changes over the course of an hour as shifts end or someone goes on break. Afterward, partake of the free cookies and drinks (I'm partial to the M+M cookie with a bottle of chocolate milk, but there are lots of options) to rehydrate a bit before you head back into the world, knowing that you've given a little something of yourself for others.

Friday I did physical questionnaire, videos and when I did the blood draw my hemocrit was off so I had to come back yesterday(Sunday) came in early to noon appointment and I was last to leave after 4 pm. I was not giving the $100 as promised but only $40. I talked to management and he was unwilling to make things right. 5 hours, actually 8 hours later I get $40

I appreciated the flexibility (I could go anytime during their open hours) vs. the commitment that would be required with a part-time job. Recently, I decided to look into plasma donation again as a way to "do something" for others, and to get some extra spending money for an upcoming vacation. I did a quick Google search and I was excited to find that there is now a location in Bloomington. Upon arrival, I was immediately impressed. The location is large, well-lit and very clean (a bit different from what I remember from their St. Paul location so many years ago). The process is quite efficient, and you can donate in roughly 45 - 90 minutes (thought allow 2.5 - 3 hours for your first donation so that you can go through the sign-up and medical screening process). Also, for that first donation, be sure to bring 3 forms of identification (for me, I brought my driver's license, my social security card, and a piece of direct mail that had my name and address on it), and I think one of those IDs must be your social security card and another must be a state-issued photo ID. Also, if you have donated in the past under a different name, you'll need to bring proof of the name change (I needed to bring my marriage certificate). In terms of compensation, the payment incentives vary. But, currently, you are paid $50 for each of your first 5 donations, and you can donate up to 2 times in a 7-day period. You are compensated via a Visa debit card that is loaded after each donation. If you're looking for a great way to do something for others while also making money, this is a great option. As the CSL Plasma website states, "plasma is the key ingredient for products crucial to treating patients suffering from a host of life-threatening conditions, including hemophilia, shock or trauma, immune deficiencies, and other blood disorders."

I will never trust my healthcare to a place that treats their patients like that. That's absurd. There's no amount of money that would make me want to donate anything to a place like that.

After multiple blood donations, and several platelet donations, given here, I can share that this is a good place to donate. Like many Red Cross donation centers, the staff and volunteers change regularly, but the donor experience has always been good, friendly, safe, and helpful. They always say "thank you for donating." The staff here are also nice if you can't donate. I've had low numbers on Iron and could not give blood. Despite my disappointment in my low iron that day, the staff was very nice, positive and they let me have a cookie any way.
