As a broke college student, donating plasma is a great way to earn a little extra money while helping out people in need! BioLife is one of the best plasma donation chains I've seen due to its high payout prices and number of locations across state lines. I've only had good experiences at any BioLife location I've been to, so I truly don't understand the multitude of negative reviews left here. For anyone that hasn't donated plasma before, your first visit will take a couple hours but it won't take that long each time. You will do an initial screening procedure where you answer a questionnaire, undergo a physical exam, take your vitals, etc. During the actual donation process, you will be hooked to a machine via IV where cycles will be run: you alternate between the blood collection phase where you pump your fist while the blood pressure cuff adds some pressure, then the machine will release the cuff while it processes the plasma and returns the blood back to your system. After the plasma is collected, a saline solution runs through the IV and into your body. This process takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes depending on how much plasma you're able to donate. One thing about plasma donation is that the place is kept cold to help with temperature regulation. Every time I donate, I bring a pair of socks to squeeze during the donation process, a sweatshirt, a blanket, and some sort of entertainment like a book or my headphones. While I can't take photos inside the location due to HIPPA violations, the space is well lit and very clean. I've been going to this location for about 4 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. Every single staff member I've interacted with is very kind. Yes, there may be some long wait times and long lines during peak hours, but it's truly manageable. Anyone who has worked in customer service can empathize with the experience of having long lines while you're working as fast as you can; that's just life sometimes! As long as you are understanding and respectful, staff members will treat you the same. Sometimes you may have bad experiences if you have a bad attitude LOL. Overall, I recommend everyone I know to donate plasma. During my first month donating, I made $1,000 and since then I've given a couple hours of my week each week to make some good money quite easily. BioLife has so many locations across the country; I can always find a close location next to my home and my college campus. I will always recommend BioLife to anyone looking to donate plasma! read more

I had wonderful help from Sarah she did my check-in, help me sign up with my finger print, check my iron, gave me a snack. I felt valued and cared by Sarah. Vista, CA I attempted to donate blood for the very first time a week and a half ago. Unfortunately the experience of donating went south almost immediately. The vein was ruptured ended up with a massive hematoma, passed out and a few days later ended up in urgent care with a blood clot. I called BioLife to inform them of what happened. The amateurs that actually start the process should be trained. As others say, even with garden hose for veins, they blew through both sides, dug around, caused an hematoma, and made it my fault telling me I cannot donate for two months because of their ineptitude. I've been extremely frustrated with them as I have had bad experiences the last few times. The girl who attempted to insert the needle 2 appointments ago MISSED my vein and it formed a massive Hematoma and bruised up my arm. Care quality here is horrible. I've never been belittled like this in my entire life, I don't know what I did to make the nurse so upset with me. I just can't believe it. She was talking to me like a robot reading a script, like she didn't want to be there and like I wasn't even a human being to her. I arrived to my appointment a little late, but they let me in anyway. Yay! Deb was at the front desk and was very helpful. The first time appointment did take a long time, but there were computer issues and it was really busy. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I was honestly surprised to see people from every walk of life at Biolife. I suspect they need more staff as I could tell the staff working were worn out. It seems like they are almost always busy. Haven't found a good time or day to go because there's usually an hour line no matter what. Staff tries to get people moving. I started giving plasma a few months ago. it's easy once you get started. a process at first but if you are an intended recipient you would be pleased at the thoroughness. a family member of mine recently was admitted to an ICU and needed plasma treatments to survive. 6 sessions, 15 bags each. at one point the didn't have enough so were going to substitute synthetic. thankfully more bags were found. he is currently doing wonderful. Im so greatfull for all those who gave that hour or two to safe my uncles life. I'm going to do the same for as long as I can. we don't know who our plasma goes to but my family is eternally great full to all those anonymous donors who saved us from losing my uncle. read more

Multiple punches through my vein by the same nurse over several visits-when I objected, she complained to management and had me written up. When I asked for a different nurse, she complained to management and had me written up. Raised my hand to get their attention after 20 minutes of waiting after completing the donation and got eye rolled. Front desk told me to get off my phone when I wasn't even at the desk or checked in yet (picked up a work call on the way in.) If you ask a question, it goes unanswered. Management makes random decisions/comments with no repercussions. They allow scheduling, but don't follow it. They were good years ago (in college, I donated all the way through) but they are no longer anything close to balanced-the donor is nothing more than a # (and even less.) I have never met a group of people so incompetent in my entire life, and I've worked with the Afghan Army, and they were pretty bad. It's also the whitest workforce at at a job site I've ever seen. I guess having a diverse workforce doesn't matter here. Who do they have running this place, a blind Forrest Gump? The nurse might as well have been Corky from life goes on, because she didn't listen or understand the words that were coming out of my mouth. So I had to return to my doctor twice to get cleared. Not to mention I waited almost two weeks for them to fax my doctor and they never did. I had to call BioLife back to remind them to send the fax. Next time I'll make sure to speak slowly and use small words. Also, I've been in the military for 18 years, trust me, I'm healthy. The "FDA, has rules." Okay, fine, just tell me what you need the first time I see a nurse. Then I can have all the documentation I need when I return. It's called attention to detail, and the staff here obviously have none. And BTW I went to the FDA website and and found out these aren't the FDA's rules, these "Rules" are BioLifes's. I've given blood hundreds of times in the United States and overseas. Maybe this place just doesn't like the military or Jews since I made it known I was Jewish. I finally got denied by biolife because of past medical conditions that my doctor said would have no impact on my ability to donate plasma or whole blood. This was personal. This place is very poorly ran. Appointment times mean nothing. I stood in line for 5 min at the door before I was even helped. I was lucky enough to not have to wait in line to answer the computer questions. But there was a line to get your vitals. This line was ridiculous. I was in this line there for 30 minutes. It took me an additional 12 minutes wait to get hooked up. That's 47 minutes of just waiting. It only took 42 minutes for the actual donation. When I started I used to be in & out in an hour. I've been donating here for over 5 years now! The first 3 years was actually pretty good. No real complaints, but the last couple years have been a complete joke! There clearly understaffed, which if you know that maybe you should have a few less appointments. On quite a few occasions now they have one person running 2 different sections, and the time you sit in your seat waiting to get poked is RIDICULOUS! I adore this location! The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable, it's a clean and easy to navigate layout and they give some pretty cool bonuses every so often. If I ever get deferred the staff has always been well educated on why, and what I can do to fix it (low iron, cloudy plasma, low blood pressure, etc). The only thing that's ever really bothered me is I have witnessed some customers get snappy attitudes towards staff, which isn't the centers fault, there's always nasty people in customer service jobs but I feel bad for staff. So if you are thinking of donating, definitely recommend this center and please be patient and kind with staff! Honestly would recommend that they don't use LED lights on their ceils and think about people with light sensitivity or narcoleptic people honestly I started getting a migraine within 10 mins of donating and they wouldn't let me put my arm over my eyes and so I'll be dealing with a migraine for 42+ hours so maybe I will not be donating unless the lights aren't as bright to be honest I can't risk me getting migraines and having to go to the hospital for a migraine that makes me puke and cannot drive. read more

The staff at this location always seem to be so annoyed with their jobs. As a donor, I've visited about 4-5 times now and each time I'm there someone is cranky towards me! If you don't like working there, find something else rather than making the experience poor for the donors who are there to do something good! I've tried to make conversation or jokes but it doesn't help. Not to mention if you see someone you know you aren't allowed to stop and chat?? I have had a lot of luck at Biolife! I've always had a positive experience including multiple employees 'first sticks' and slight bruising which can be expected. Each time, everyone has been amazingly courteous if not more than that. There is rarely a slow time here as everyone typically goes twice a week. It's been fun to find others who mimic the days and times and making a few friends here and there as well. Its a comfortable environment and everyone seems to be willing to jump in and help each other in their sections. I've never had any issues with bad attitudes or lack of conversation. Writing a 1 review not because of the service, but because of what they did to the property they built their new facility on. In building one of their many parking lots they cut the largest oak tree in the city and one of the largest in the county. For perspective, the tree was very likely older than our country. It was already mature when Maple Grove was first settled and then became a city. It stood by as the woods around it was cut. It even stood by as the farm house and out buildings were built and a fence was wrapped around its trunk. When the houses were removed it was still growing there as it had for centuries. Had it been left standing, it could have provided a beautiful spot for staff and donors alike to rest or enjoy a lunch break.
