Dr Yuan is such a awesome spine surgeon. He took care of my back complaint of sciatica and weakness. He was so patient and very good at explaining the plan we were going to do to fix my problem with L2&3 of my lower back. This after having L4&5 done by another doctor. He made sure to connect the L2-4 even though he didn't do L3&4 and made sure to recheck them too. He also made sure that I was good before allowing the hospital to discharge me. I was so glad he did because it made recuperating at home easier and experienced no problems. His staff were great to in coordinating everything for the surgery. After care is great too as he explains everything to me. Even giving me physical therapy to help me get my strength back. I did choose Southland Physical Therapy in Long Beach because my therapist, Sami had received great feedback for Dr Yuan from his other clients who had surgery with Dr Yuan. I highly recommend Dr Yuan for any back issues. read more

This review is for the physical therapy group. They are fantastic. They deal with people in pain, discomfort, anxious, nervous due to their injuries or post-surgical recovery. Going through several weeks of therapy on two separate occasions within the past 7-8 months, not once did I see any of the staff not being kind, respectful and gracious to any of the patients. I never saw any of the patients upset, or complaining about any of the staff or treatment. From the therapists to the receptionists (in PT not the main office) everyone is kind, considerate and respectful. read more

I've been seeing doctors for years for a herniated disc in my back. Since surgery has always been a last resort, or not really even an option, previous doctors have always recommended epidural injections, acupuncture, nerve ablation, pills, etc. Those relieved the pain but only for a short time. I decided to see DR. PHILIP YUAN after he was recommended by a friend. He suggested physical therapy and what a difference that made! I feel I am able to manage the pain on my own now with the exercises and stretches I have learned. He is quick and on time with appointments too! Dr Armani was great. Took the time to explain the issues with my shoulder fracture. Was not eager to operate, explain how repair without surgery would be a longer term gain. Was very good about keeping me up to date on my progress at visits. Wrote me prescriptions for PT as I need it. Second experience with this practice. Had a fracture of my tibia and was very happy with them then. A friend works in surgery with these doctors and has nothing but praise for them. Also like to shout out to the nurses that help in the back, they are awesome. Very friendly and helpful. Had x-rays at every visit to keep track of healing. The x-ray is right in the office. Would definitely use memorial orthopedic again, but I hope I don't have to! read more

The staff at Memorial Orthopaedic surgical center is very kind and helpful, Dr Lee is very professional, he did an excellent surgery on my ankle, now I have to keep going and I expect soon I'll be 100% recovery. Also Tyra has been helpful and she took care of me for my forms with work and EDD. Unfortunately I never got to meet the Dr so I can only speak for the person who answered for scheduling. When I was trying to make an appointment for my son, she informed me that she wasn't able to take one of his two insurances. When I asked if she could not use the I insurance they don't accept and just bill the other, she rudely said "no!" and hung up. Instead of explaining why they were unable to and being professional, she just hung up. I was never rude, raised my voice or said anything that would warrant her behavior. I eventually found someone who was polite and professional enough to explain to me the reason behind this and subsequently found a Dr to help my child. Hopefully someone speaks to this woman and reminds her that being kind is still free.... read more

The office staff have gone above and beyond for me, especially applying for temporary SDI. Tyra is super helpful and easy to talk to. Dr. Lee has been my doctor there and I've really enjoyed seeing him so far - super personable, takes his time with me, and can tell that he cares. He's also very responsive to MyChart messages. I've gotten three hyalauronic acid shots for my ankle from Dr. Lee and he ensured correct application with an ultrasound and had to inject into a very narrow joint space. This practice also does weight-bearing x-rays which can be hard to find! read more

Worst possible experience. Started with a 2 hour wait to be seen. I came in with Achilles tendinitis with an xray. The business advertises PRP treatments. I came in for that specific reason just to be told I need to try physical therapy first, which has already been tried. Basically wasted $200 and 2 hours of my time. The facility doesn't look that clean either, so might have dodged a bigger bullet by not having the procedure done there. read more

To add to the precious post after speaking with my insurance they informed you all set them request for payment from 07-01 on 11/15. For my surgery on 09/05/2019 you submitted the request for payment on 02/19/20. Once again proving there's no way this could have been sent to me for 12 months in a row. The falsification of information is ridiculous have you no understanding of business and Healthcare ethics? Then again you do work for a group of doctors that solely cares about billing and over charging for very shotty surgeon work. Look at that scar no way that should have been worse than a knee replacement scar but it is. Doctor Kurzweil has a good hustle noise back guarantee at all domt even have to see the patients just schedule your PA then go skiing right? This practice is a joke no athletes go here, none. I visited Dr. Lee recently to be evaluated for joint pain in my foot. During my first appointment, it took several attempts at explaining for him to stop trying to prescribe pain meds and listen to me. He was not interested in offering any insight into my injury until I scheduled an MRI, so I set up an appointment for one a month in advance. Upon returning I found that he had not ordered the MRI and changed the appointment to a second evaluation to collect another copay without reason. I should've paid attention to the red flags at this place when their first and only step in an evaluation was to suggest drugs. Learn from my mistake and look elsewhere for doctors who won't ignore you and string you along for insurance money. read more

Couldn't get an appointment for weeks, they lost my MRI results, doctor was over an hour late to my appointment time then spent 30 seconds looking at my MRI (once it was found because they had misspelled my name on it, or that's the excuse they used) before telling me a different part of my body than I was in there for looked good. Doctor joked he probably should of read my chart. 30 more seconds of review to get an incorrect diagnoses, found out after going elsewhere. Trying to call to sort out incorrect billing or change appointments; forget about it they just transfer you person to person, each of which has no idea what they are doing, before disconnecting the line when you're on hold. I saw Dr. Lee in November of 2022. He took an x-ray and told me "you have arthritis.... the location is around my ankle. He sent me home with "take Tylenol when needed and don't walk or be active" seriously that is what he told me. Well, now it is August of 2023 and I am still having pain, but in a wider area of my ankle. I went to another orthopedic group and I had x-rays and an MRI. I have several tears in my tendon. Thank You Dr. Lee for not knowing how to diagnose. I am in a boot, not able to walk unless necessary for 6 weeks. Maybe if Dr. Lee had given me an MRI I could have prevented further damage to my tendon. Do Not Go To this Group. Also, Left a message for the office Mgr or Administrator to call me, that was 48 hours ago. Horrible, Horrible......No call back. read more

If they don't turn you away from their stringent copay policies they'll at least get parking out of you ($4.00 to park) and this is for their own patients?! Aesthetics: older building, drab, grey-ish, improper lighting, uncomfortable seats; overall very ugly with signage everywhere similar to that of a DMV, exposed wiring with leaking ceilings. Made an appointment 1 week advance, gave out all the insurance info to make sure they accepted my insurance. The nurse confirmed ok and gave me the appointment. By the time, I went there , they told me the doctor was not in my insurance network. I wish they could told me way earlier rather than on the spot. Wow...I'm sure sorry to read any negative reviews on here about Dr. Philip Yuan, because I didn't even experience anything like what's been posted here. My husband has a severe cervical spine/arm issue, and he was seen this past Thursday. Yes, they are busy, but they give you all the time you need during the appointment. I even mentioned to Dr. Yuan that there were some negative reviews about him on Yelp, and that I was concerned about that. He said, 'yes, sometimes people don't like certain details about things in the office, but our patients come first, and we'll answer all your questions and give you as much time as you need'. If you want to leave a negative review about having to use tokens to pay for parking, or the fact that the office has a color of carpet that you don't like, then you're not helping anyone. You need to seriously leave reviews about your experience with the office staff and the doctor. And if you have questions, for goodness' sake, ask them! Everyone was very kind and professional. It was busy, but things were moving and we were seen within 15 minutes of our appointment time. The waiting room wasn't crowded, but there were people going in and out all the time, which was good. It wasn't like some 'cattle call' offices though. They are busy, but efficient, and they took very good care of my husband. Dr. Yuan answered all our questions, and we left there feeling like things were more positive about my husband's prognosis than we originally thought. I can only say that I seriously felt much better about my husband's serious issue after seeing Dr. Yuan, and I feel like my husband will be in very good hands throughout his treatment. I wouldn't hesitate to see Dr. Yuan. He's truly amazing, and his staff was great. Three cheers to Makell (did I spell that right?) too. He is a PA there, and he came in and got us started with the exam. He was thorough, gentle, and answered a lot of questions as well. I had a very unpleasant phone conversation with an medical assistant, at the nurses station. This assistant answering the phone was extremely rude, raised her voice , and did not empathize with what I may be experiencing. I was told earlier, in the week Dr T'sai's medical assistant would return my call. ( this was due to a upcoming procedure) . I was asked to please wait till today ( Thursday) That Claire would return my phone call. No, problem. I did not receive a phone call , all day . A few mins before 4 , I thought I would see if Claire is available. Well, the MA that answered my previous call angrily, tells me " Claire is not here , will return early next week" " I will give her the information " " you know this takes weeks with insurance ". I had to remind her, I am scheduled for the injections and was calling because blue shield is now covering injections. This assistant, (1) could have said " I'm sorry we will not be able to get back to you, until next Thursday " Claire is out of office until then" "while I am not able to input pharmacy orders , I will check to see if we received your approval from blue shield" . (2)- "I hear you are concerned, there may be a delay in receiving your injections " we understand you are in pain,. We are working to put your prescription through to the pharmacy or " we are working on your prescription, to ensure you receive your injections, as scheduled ". I as, the patient know my pain, and fear, and uncertainty, contributes To my upset. I am not always , correct. However, speaking in a reactive harsh and rude manner only makes matters worse. It also made me feel less trustful,. Please be kind , mindful , empathetic and honest. read more

I have had the pleasure of being treated at Memorial Orthopaedic Surgical Group on several occasions. My Physician is Dr. Spencer, an extremely qualified person, who has always looked at my well being first. I would like to digress for just a moment, to address some of the comments that I've read. First, paper work is in every business is first. Memorial has updated its web site so that patients can now do 99 per cent of the paper work on line. As for rudeness by the staff, take a seat in the waiting room, and listen to all the problems that the staff is confronted with, and tell me if you are so perfect that you might be a little perturbed at some of the people that you are trying to help. But back to me. I have absolutely never been upset by the staff because of their lack of assistance, or rudeness. Never. In fact it's just the opposite for me, from the front desk, to the Doctor's room, to X-Ray or MRI. Once in the Surgical prep room, I have found that each a every person who works there is a professional, they are caring, and do their utmost to make you comfortable, knowing that you maybe a little nervous while you wait to go into surgery. I have nothing but the greatest respect for each and every person who works in the prep and surgical rooms. There are really no words to explain how I truly feel about the staff, I wish I could remember all their names, but mostly, I hope that someone in management will take these comments into the staff and let them know just how helpful they have been to me, and from what I've observed, their help and kindness to those who were in the prep room while I was there. Their help and kindness can't be just for me on the days that I'm there, I'm sure everyone gets the same happy, caring feeling as I do. I would not recommend this place. I saw Dr. Warden for a knee injury and had a terrible experience. The consult was rushed, surface level and lacked any real direction or guidance as to how to best approach my injury and rehab. The front desk was also short, rude and attempted to charge copays that did not align with my insurance coverage. The only person that was helpful was the person who took my MRI. I will not return to this place for care. read more

Positive: I have seen two doctors here - Kurzweil and Bhalla. Both are nice and seem competent. The nurse, front office, X-ray, and MRI personnel have all been OK as well. Negative: The waiting room needs a serious update. The parking lot only takes tokens, which you have to buy in the waiting room with cash - time to upgrade that as well. This place is like Grand Central for Worker's Comp people. The PT area is a gigantic room with about 40 beds all out in the open - no privacy. There was painter's tape still up in the X-ray room. Both the X-ray and MRI rooms need updating as well. read more

I wish I could review the doctors and support staff separately, but since I can't we'll start with the doctors. They are generally the most skilled orthopedic surgeons in town. They are well respected and while in the operating room, are very talented and skilled. Bedside manner...come on now, orthopedic surgeons aren't typically good at that, but I will say that Dr Yuan was very personable. The way the office is managed is just terrible. Appointments are always at least an hour behind schedule. The office staff is consistently disorganized and borderline rude. Their attention to detail is non existent and when you calling for an appointment involves a phone tree, at least a 5-10 minute hold, and repeating yourself multiple times. Nobody knows about anything else that any other department does, so if you have a question be prepared for the blow off. Scheduling, insurance, billing, PT, xray, MRI, parking, are all separate departments with separate fees and schedule time lines. They charge for parking. $3 for a token, cash or charge only. read more

They happen to have an Urgent Care center. Everywhere else I called, I couldn't be seen by a doctor or a few days. I really should have just waited in pain. I'm going to Santa Monica Orthopaedic Group this week. That's the appointment I should have just waited for. Idk why or what is going on at this place. Eric from the physical therapy fixed me! He is a miracle worker! I originally saw Dr Warden to look into a nagging shoulder pain from rock climbing over thanksgiving (persisted for about 3 months after the injury). We did an X-ray, MRI (all files provided to on a CD) and found that everything seemed ok in the shoulder, and prescribed a month of Physical Therapy (PT). I have been visiting Eric regularly every week for the last month and the work he's done has been nothing short of miraculous. Eric takes a very mechanical, scientific and orderly approach to understanding the problem, testing it, and testing for change/improvement. Eric takes the time to explain what is happening, and what the exercises are supposed to be accomplishing. I can't say how much I greatly appreciate the work that Eric has done for me, and look forward to the future sessions. As for the staff for both the medical and physical therapy branches, they are good but not amazing. Now, when you consider how many other medical offices have staff that just outright suck, regardless of size, the staff at Memorial Orthopedic is certainly above average. read more

Wow! Even though they take my insurance they will not bill my insurance nor will they direct bill the auto insurance of the person who rear ended me. They want me to pay cash even though they take my insurance. Then I would have to fight for reimbursement? Seriously what is wrong with this country? I also had a bad experience here after several years of good treatment. I also encountered two surgeons here at their worst. I was also in pain and and they don't like question and those two were also severely lacking in personality. They are also rushed - I do think it may be a "workers' compensation mill" and the front office is slow and arrogant. My first visit was just for a consult with Dr. Lee and his nurse Rebecca. I had waited 30-45 min before being out in a patient room, then another 20 min waiting for the doctor. The first visit went smooth other than the wait time, which I don't appreciate, but understand it happens. When I left my first visit I scheduled my follow up visit for about 2 weeks later. This visit was going to be for the injection that the doctor had recommended. I arrived to my second appointment about 10 min early. Again, walked into a room FULL of waiting patients, with barely even a seat available. As I checked in I asked the receptionist how long the wait was, because I knew from my first visit there would be a wait. This time I had my mother and son with me, and was not prepared, nor was I going to wait 40 minutes for my appointment. The reception proceeds to tell me that she has no idea how late the doctor was going to be, and there was no way of finding out. I then because very frustrated because I feel that regardless of ones title "doctor or patient" I deserve respect and courtesy of my time just like I have the same courtesy for the doctors time by showing up EARLY to my appointment. So I told her that she needs to talk to a nurse to get an idea of how long the wait was. I took a half day off work, I drove from Costa Mesa to Long Beach at 2pm, and now facing a receptionist who is asking if I want to reschedule my appointment rather than wait. I insisted she ask the nurse before I decide if I am going to come back or not. I am told it will be about 15-20 min, which it was. I finally get placed in my room and the nurse asked ME the PATIENT if there is an approval on file for the injection. She tells me she doesn't see one and tells me she needs to find out what happened and leaves me in the room for another 20 min. After I watched her pass by my room FIVE times over the course of 20 min I finally ask her what is going on, because now I have been in the office for 1 1/2 hours with no answers! I probe her to find out what the process is, and who was responsible for dropping the ball on my appointment, and IF my approval wasn't in the system why someone didn't call me. Turns out she was the one who dropped the ball, but I only found that out from asking questions to other people in the office. The nurse NEVER apologized. She never even owned up to dropping the ball. Dr. Lee never popped in to apologize for the inconvenience, and hassle. The conclusion is, I went back to the front desk and asked them to refund my $35 copay and left. I walked right past Dr. Lee and his nurse Rebecca, and neither of them even acknowledged me as I left their office. I have never experience such inconsideration and disregard. I called my PCP and told her I will never step foot in that office again and requested to be referred to another foot and ankle specialist. Come to find out after making my own calls to my PCP and Health Net that the nurse actually submitted the authorization request for my injection AS I WAS SITTING THERE in her office and she was hoping it would get approved while i sat there. Health Net told me those authorizations take a minimum of 72 hours to get approved, and it would have never gotten approved in the hour I was sitting there. Health Net recommended I submit a grievance against the office, which I did. My PCP office escalated the issue to their contracting department, because Dr. Lee is a contracted doctor with the office. Health Net and my PCP office were both very apologetic, and sincere. In fact I told the Health Net rep that everyone seems to be sorry but the ones who actually put me through all of this. NEVER go to this office, and avoid Dr. Lee and his nurse. I know it wasn't his fault, BUT..neither of them were empathetic or apologetic to what happened and neither of them took responsibility for what happened. A simple "I am sorry, it was my mistake, please let me fix this for you!" would have avoided my review of this office. Side Note: This is the first office EVER in my life where I had to pay $4 a visit to park in the parking lot. So bring cash! read more

Dr. Tiberi was great (once you get thru to make an appt) but I could only give them 1 star because the service from the front office staff was so atrocious. I called 3 times in one day at various times and never got thru. When I finally got thru 2 days later, the secretary was very rude, did not listen to my question, and transferred me to another holding pattern that lasted over 15 minutes when it hung up because it was 5 pm and they closed. It seems customer service reviews are meaningless to this group because the front desk service does not change. There is no way I will recommend subjecting oneself to the rude physician office staff experience to anyone no matter the reputation of the physicians in this group. I have PPO insurance, work at the hospital across the street, know these doctors and this is my experience.!!! Drive to OC or LA - not worth deductible or out of pocket expense to be treated so rudely by staff. I do believe it's our money that pays their wages but it's clear they haven't made the connection. read more
