Three stars is just about right. The guys at the door aren't very nice, you can't wear open toed shoes, no hats, and there's always a cover, even for locals. Once you get it, the music is good half the time, and the other half of the time you have to listen to Jerry Blavit try and sing and talk over the music. The drinks are pretty good, and the bartenders are all nice. The clientele is actually really fun in there, it's hilarious to watch the dance floor. I guess that's worth the cover charge right there. After a night with the boys I had gone to memories, as I got up to the end of the line to get my ID checked the big fat bouncer told me it wasn't real and told me to get out of line and had raised his hand against me threatening to hit me while it was my real STATE ID he had confiscated. While I was I told to wait to have someone talk to him to get my ID back he was being way too friendly with the girls,giving them hugs and what not , letting them through and other young adult males he was shaking hands with was also getting through, not EVER SCANNING THE ID's or PUTTING THE BACKLIGHTS ON THEM just glancing at the ID's and having them go through. While I was told told by other bouncers I was not getting my ID back I had no choice but to go to the local police that was across the street and get it back and like the good boy he's supposed to be he gave them my ID, police checked it to see if it was real which it was and I had gotten it back.. I will never come here again not worth any money spent here don't ever come here your better off going to any other place around the area then memories the drinks r highway robbery the admission was also highway robbery just for people to be stinking and very aggressive people to be attending this so called "club" or whatever it is. Does not live up to the hype AT ALL. The big fat bouncer is a power tripper and doesn't need to be working as bouncer if he doesn't take the proper precautions and not use the proper tools and equipment given to him for ID CHECKING then he's better off working as a valley parking guy. We were initially told admission was $10, but when we walked up to the door while waiting for other friends to park, the price suddenly became $20. I'm really shaken by what happened to me at Memories in Margate and feel it's important to share. While out with my friends, a man (probably in his late 50s) took a photo of me BENEATH MY SKIRT without my knowledge. I only found out because another woman witnessed it and told me. I confronted the man, but he wouldn't acknowledge me, refused to show his phone, and acted like I was crazy. What followed was incredibly disappointing. I brought it to the female bartender and security, hoping for support. For some reason, I still don't know why, she was mad at ME and telling me to calm down and suggesting I leave. She gave this creepy man the benefit of the doubt instead of believing me. I was visibly scared, shaken, and crying. The staff made this situation 10x worse. Eventually the bartender and security checked his phone, saw the violating photos were there, and deleted them. They did apologize and offer free shots but there was no chance I'm ever stepping in that horrible unsafe place again. Supposedly the man was removed but it wasn't without causing a scene and making me feel extremely uncomfortable. I want other young women to be aware. I truly hope the bar rethinks how they handle these kinds of situations in the future. YOUNG WOMEN DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO FEEL SAFE AND SUPPORTED. read more

The reason that I gave this a 3 star rating was the food. I enjoyed my bartender (Ophelia?) and I liked the memorabilia on the walls. I was one of 3 customers in the place one late afternoon during happy hour. The waitresses and barmaid were eating their dinner and the chicken wings were recommended. My issue is that the cook wasn't busy, so how did my wings get burned? And why would you serve them to your customer if you wanted to impress and have her come back? Truthfully, I wanted to visit this bar that I hadn't been to since I was a teenaged underaged drinker! I sure wish Jerry was still alive but am glad we can still go there, dance and conjure up memories of the good old days. read more

Sorry to say we ate here hoping it would be fun as we knew the dancing afterwards would be with the kids. It's so nice. They can go in and dance early before the adult crowds. Food left much to be desired, but we had a ball afterwards and every time we walk in there. The service was good though. They were very nice to the kids. read more

Absolutely disgusted by what happened at Memories in Margate. Last night, a man in his 50s took an upskirt photo of my friend who is in her 20s without her knowledge. A bystander woman saw it happen and immediately told my friend. She then confronted the man, who refused to acknowledge her, wouldn't show his phone, and acted like nothing happened. When she brought this to the attention of the bartender and security, the bartender actually argued with her and said, "We can't just kick people out." Not once did they treat the situation with the seriousness it deserved. It took 30 minutes of back and forth before they finally confiscated his phone, confirmed the photos were there, deleted them, and apologized. Their solution was offering our group of 7 women a free shot. That was it. No police were called. No ban. Just a disgusting level of indifference to predatory behavior. Our biggest regret was not calling the police ourselves sooner. If you're a woman in your 20s do not go here. You are not safe, and the staff will not protect you. This establishment failed to act when it mattered. This experience has confirmed that they'd rather protect predators than their patrons. read more

Bouncers Were Totally out of line and the one of them was most definitely intoxicated, attempted to confiscate my government issued ID as well as my ID for a Recreation Center. Then as i was trying to discuss why they thought my ID was fake, my friend and I were physically and Un provokingly removed from the line outside, even after asking for a manager. when i finally got a manager, he was just as if not more rude and disrespectful than the bouncers. Not to mention the fact that im a 22yr old local who lives here year-round, and this was my first time trying to go here. If i were a tourist i would never come back here, it would make me want to pick a new vacation spot. I could keep going but im honestly appalled at how they allow that place to function. Read a lot of reviews complaining about Jerry singing and dancing and talking over the music. Hey, get with it, that's Jerry Blavat, that's what made him famous. Jerry has been doing that for over 50 years. That's one of the reasons that he is still on the air after all these years while all of the other "DJ's" are gone. If you don't like how Jerry DJ's then you probably should go somewhere else, not Jerry's house. Great place for all of us born in the 50's to listen to REAL music. read more

My good friend went to this bar and was denied entry when asked why he was told because of his v-neck shirt. When my friend asked him (because he witnessed others with v-necks enter) the guy said "your shirt is white" (his was actually cream colored), the man then stated "either way it's a V-neck, it's our policy". Other friends with him also had on V-necks but they allowed them entry. One of our friends asked where the dress policy was posted which the received the response "we don't have it posted". This place is racially profiling people and it is unacceptable on every level. Avoid this place at all costs, we need to put a stop to places like this. read more

I went with some friends and the owner (Jerry) saw me and my girlfriends kiss, had a meltdown, and drug us out the door by our arms and told us he would get us arrested. Didn't refund us for the drinks we bought and didn't even get to drink. Definitely a very discriminatory place. Memories is a great place to enjoy some oldies music. We felt like we stepped back in time a bit going into the club when seeing all the black and white classic photos on the walls of when Jerry (the owner and DJ of the club) hung out with some classic singers like Frank Sinatra. This is a great bar to take your parents to if they are in town or want to go to a beach bar club. It's also very fun without the parents if you want to get your wedding dances with the classic music from the 60s and 70s. A good place to go to mix up going to EDM and Rap style clubs. Was just wandering around Margate on a Friday night at around 8:30. Had no issue getting into the other restaurants/bars on the street. Walk up to Memories Lounge and the bouncer practically breaks my ID in half after it successfully scans, proceeds to stare me down and say its fake and ask If I had a birth certificate or Passport. I say no and he walks inside . threatened to call the police, bouncer handed the ID back before they arrived and told me to beat it. I really wish the cops arrived and had the chance to look me up. Gave them my Id and an old school Id for a reference to show my age. After they look at my Id and know it's real they decide to bend it to the point it almost breaks. A lady comes out with another guy and examine it more and say it's not good enough and expect another source of identification! Top marks given that Memories is the "last man standing", in what was an area with numerous choices of bars and nightclubs, all in walking distance from one another. That said, there are a few things that could be improved upon, but I'll keep my list short & simple without getting into real criticisms. Some songs are played four, and even five times over again in the same night. Continuing along the same line... The same songs are played in almost the same order over and over from one week to the next. From the first Saturday night of Memorial Day weekend to the last Saturday on Labor Day weekend, it's deja vu to the nth degree (It's just too much). As one who enjoys dancing I'm use to seamless mixing, as well songs that flow into one another and don't cause you to miss a beat on the dance floor. I appreciate the music of the 60's and 70's, that said it would be great if there were more than a couple of songs from the last two decades included in the set list. I mean no disrespect when I say that Memories NOW thrives because it's the only game in town (literally), and they have a captive audience of sorts. In my humble opinion, it would be great if the management included a little more of a new feel in all ways along with the old, so as to better allow younger generations to truly have a "night club" where they can make and relive their own great Memories, without having to drive into Atlantic City. read more

If you are from Philly and know anything about our local culture AND you're over the age of 40-you know the "Geator with the Heater-the Boss with the Hot Sauce" Jerry Blavat. Jerry still makes this dance club churn on Friday and Saturday evenings. Definitely a fun place to go and enjoy some great music, dancing or just people watching-all in a spacious club sitting across from the bay. Awful experience. So I came down to Margate for my friend's father's birthday. After the fun-filled birthday party, myself and 5 friends, all in our mid-twenties, headed off to Memories for some drinks and dancing. After paying the cover, my friend and I, smiling and laughing, head to the dance floor. After dancing for about 30 seconds, the owner, Jerry, grabs my friends shoulder and tells us to calm down or "we're outta here." Up until that point, we had NOT tried to talk to ANYONE else at the bar. We were dancing for 30 SECONDS amongst ourselves, NOT BOTHERING ANYBODY. However, to appease Jerry, we calmed down a bit by refraining from dancing...even though Memories is known as a place where you go to dance. (I'm not positive who Jerry is, but afterwards, my friend from Margate informed me it was, indeed, Jerry) After a couple of minutes go by, we see our friend Mike's lovely parents on the dance floor. Excitedly, we go over to greet them, smiling and lauging...kisses for his mother, handshake for his father. As I'm in the middle of talking to Mike's mother, Jerry storms out from the DJ booth, forcefully grabs my shoulder, and screams "YOU GUYS ARE FINISHED! YOU AND ALL YOUR FRIENDS - OUT OF HERE!" Confused, I exclaim that I was merely talking to my friend's parents. Jerry doesn't want to hear it - he continues to grab my shoulder, while shoving me towards the door. He hands back the $10 covers to myself and my friends and that's that. Directly after, Mike's parents follow us outside and try to reason with the staff that we are their son's friends, and we were merely talking to them, doing nothing wrong. Despite Mike's parents trying to reason with them, neither Jerry nor his staff wanted to hear any type of rebuttal. They had apparently drawn their conclusions on my group the second we walked in. After it was clear that we were kicked out of Memories, I stood there perplexed. In my ENTIRE life, I have NEVER been kicked out of a bar. I'm a polite, friendly person who, on the weekends, has a few drinks and looks to have a good time. My friends and I walked into Memories smiling and laughing, looking to have a good time AND NOTHING MORE. I'm not sure why Jerry assumed certain things about us - I'm still left in bewilderment as I write this. Jerry embarrassed the 6 of us for NO good reason (although, now that I think about it, I think it's safe to say Jerry embarrassed himself). We were well dressed, well groomed, and perfectly cordial to the other guests at the bar. My take on it is that, the second we walked in, Jerry pinpointed us and, for some reason I am not aware of, drew up a conclusion on us. He seems to be a narrow minded jerk who is desperately trying to keep a certain image at his bar (what that image is, I have no clue...he promotes Memories as a fun, dancing bar, yet kicks out 6 people who were ONLY dancing and socializing). There's an EXCELLENT bar down the street called Tomatoes - it's a blast. You can dance, you can relax on the sidelines with a cocktail - whatever kind of night you would like, you can find it at Tomatoes. The bouncer snapped my real ID pretty much in half and called me a bitch when I had to make a police report about it. The girl scanning it also argued with me saying it was fake and tried to embarrass me (I kept my cool because I was upset not angry) she told the cop I was hostile and that's why they weren't letting me in, while she was the one who told me to leave because "Real IDs will not snap" How uneducated do you have to be to not know any ID can snap if you're bending it completely in half? And why are they bending them anyway?? Can they actually not tell because then they shouldn't be bouncers. They were absolutely SO rude and when the cop had to come over they were completely different, when prior to the cops they told me to leave and go cry to the cops, then asked if I wanted to go in after the situation. No apologizes were ever given just lies and extremely rude unnecessary comments. Not the place to go. I'd definitely NEVER go back and will make sure my friends won't either. read more
