I entered and made a beeline straight for the restroom because I had to gooo . I quickly discovered the bathroom doors were locked and required a key code. Next thing I know, the bartender, Domingo, starts yelling from behind the bar and then comes around questioning why I was in the establishment. He made it very clear that the restrooms were for paying customers only. I firmly replied, "I plan to dine in, but need to use the restroom first. Is that a problem?" He didn't seem too happy with that response and walked away. As intended, I sat at the bar and ordered wings and truffle fries. The food wasn't particularly memorable, but the wings were a decent size. The truffle fries were fine, but nothing that stood out. Antonio clocked in about halfway through my meal and was a breath of fresh air. He was friendly, attentive, and completely changed the tone of the experience. Overall, it was a good visit with decent food and great service from Antonio. Unfortunately, my first interaction with Domingo left a poor impression and took away from what otherwise would have been a positive experience.

As Latinos, we were made to feel unwelcome and unwanted. It was painfully clear that we were not being treated with the same basic courtesy given to others. No one should ever walk into a restaurant and feel judged or looked down on simply for who they are. To make matters worse, the place was dirty and poorly maintained, and the food was mediocre at best. For the way we were treated, the quality of the meal didn't even matter -- the experience was already ruined. There is absolutely no excuse for making customers feel uncomfortable or disrespected.
