Great place for music and dancing.. Great for an older crowd. We went for after dinner drinks and the dj.

I've always gone for dinner and the mood lighting is great! Waitstaff is always around and come back to the table frequently. They have great seafood options and some dishes you can add a plate of pasta to it for $5!

Decided to stop in for happy hour at the bar. This was my first time visiting. The food was very good and reasonably priced from 3-6pm. Loved the complementary bread and peppers. The $12 lamb chops were delicious and cooked perfectly. My boyfriend loved the meatball salad. The meatball was very flavorful, moist and served with ricotta cheese. Our bartender was friendly and attentive. I would definitely dine here again for happy hour. Great value.

This is our new favorite Italian spot at the shore. Service is great, it's dog friendly if you sit on the patio and the food has been amazing every time!

First time at Johnny's and the atmosphere was positive and interior nicely done. The bar was packed and a number of tables were full. Our server was friendly and on top of our needs. We started out with some drinks and the bartender did a great job making my French martini. We shared the crispy calamari which was cooked perfectly but could have used a little more seasoning. The lobster Mac and cheese had chucks of lobster but I felt it could have used my cheesy goodness. The best meal of the table was Jonny's veal. Thin sliced veal perfectly cooked with lump crab meat in a brown sauce. I didn't try the crab cakes but was told they were okay. The seabass was good but the risotto was cold. My pasta dish was good. Desserts were okay. The crème brûlée had lumps. The chocolate brownie had nuts which for some people are a plus but not for me. I was told the Cannoli was delicious.

Overall everything was great. Nice place inside. The couple we went with said it is the best chicken parm and bolognese sauce. The long hots we got were not hot at all. One had tiny bite to it. I got the filet with crab and blue cheese cream sauce. Sauce was great. I was surprised. The filet was chewy. The brownie with ice cream, crème brûlée and martinis were awesome! Our server was great.

Felt like we had to have one of their "award winning" caesar salads since they boast it on the menu. It was definitely sizable so order to share. We enjoyed it. Not sure it would go in the books but it was really nice. Could have used some more croutons but loved the fresh shaved parm. The French onion soup is comforting and the pappardelle bolognese was such a treat! And because dessert goes to a separate stomach, we found room for a slice of the key lime pie which was absolutely worth every calorie! Ventura's offshore location is definitely larger and comfier than the beach location. The tables are roomier and the parking is easy. Though it can get a bit noisy but we asked to be seated away from the bar area which kept the noise level comfortable enough for conversation. The service is friendly and the portions are awesome!

I recognize menus change, but I'm guessing the chef changed as well. So many items are called the same name as they were on the previous menu yet they are not same, like a shadow of its predecessor. I will say the cowboy steak was amazingly prepared and delicious. If I was reviewing that alone it'd be a 5 star review. Our waitress was nice but I definitely got the feeling of disappointment when we didn't order appetizers, we prefer to order extra sides and drinks which more than make up that in the end. Just some people don't and it sucks to feel like you're not a table worth waiting on. The saddest experience was the dessert. The sticky toffee dessert was my favorite thing in the world. It was fabulous. It's still on the menu, but it is not the same dessert by any stretch of the imagination. It now tastes like someone cut the bran muffin in half and poured some sugary sweetness on it and then served it with clotted cream that was not tasty. It used to be a tiny dessert that came with ice cream. It was so rich and was beyond delicious. It is actually a challenging dessert to make, so I'm guessing they've changed to this new version to save time but honestly they should just take it off the menu if you're not going to do it properly. If that plate was served on Top Chef and they would've crucified the chef as it looked and tasted horrible. I'm sure we will go again in the future but I left with a tinge of sadness that they changed a historic restaurant so much.

Simpson Restaurant Atlantic City - Good Food, Good Vibes... and a Side of Tea…read more Food Quality & Taste Let's start with the star of the show--the wings. Baby...they were seasoned just right. Not bland, not doing the most--just a perfect balance that even my hard-to-please husband had to nod in approval. Now that says a lot. Hubby also tried the brown stew fish with rice and veggies...and yeah, he wasn't impressed. To be fair, he doesn't impress easily, so take that with a grain of salt (he's a spice guy, so that may have won him over). I had the pasta, and I'll keep it real--it was simple. BUT once I borrowed (okay, took) some of hubby's veggies and mixed them in, it leveled up real quick. Round two, the next day? Much better. Hubby ran it back with wings and tried the curry goat--and this time, full approval. If we go back, we will try the oxtails. Value for the Price First visit: near $120 (not including tip) for 1 appetizer, 2 drinks, and 2 entrees. And listen--if we had added oxtails? Easily pushing $150. Second visit (wings + curry goat): just over $50, which, for AC, I guess that's about right. So the value really depends on what you order. Choose wisely, my friends. Cleanliness No issues here. The space felt clean and comfortable--no side-eyes needed. Customer Service The hostesses set the tone--very warm and welcoming, which I love. The waiter? He was nice, just a solid, nice. No complaints. Wait Time & Convenience Everything moved at a good pace. No long waits or confusion. It's giving smooth operation, especially for a busy Atlantic City spot. Presentation & Atmosphere It has a sports bar feel--on the darker side, but they do provide table lighting so you're not out here guessing what you're ordering. Now let's talk atmosphere...because baby, it was lively. Lots of birthday celebrations, music, and energy. The table next to us? Loud enough for me to learn way too much about their personal lives. I now know who's dodging child support and who's dating Benjamin Button So yes, it's a vibe--but not a quiet one. Red Flags or Warnings It can get loud, so don't come expecting an intimate whisper-over-dinner moment. Some dishes are hit or miss--stick with what works (wings and curry goat, oxtail are safe bets). Now I do have questions...why are the fruit slices in the drinks paper-thin? Either someone was showing off their knife skills, and we got the remnants or the mandolin was working overtime. Maybe the fruit budget is under review because those slices were darn near see-through. Overall: Simpson Restaurant has good energy, strong wings, and a fun, lively atmosphere--perfect if you don't mind a little noise and a lot of personality around you. Just be mindful of what you order, because everything doesn't hit the same. My stamp on this place is... "Queens' Quest"

My friends and I recently traveled to Atlantic City for a spring break getaway and made a point to…read moresupport a Black-owned business. Based on recommendations from locals, we chose The Simpson Restaurant & Sports Bar. Unfortunately, what we experienced was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. The first red flag should have been their outdated website, which still noted a closure from March 3, 2026, despite our visit on March 31. After confirming with locals that the food was good, we made a 7:30 PM reservation. When we arrived, the restaurant was busy, which we expected, but the seating process was completely disorganized. Multiple groups were waiting, yet others were being seated out of order regardless of arrival time or reservations. One guest even spoke up about it after watching others be seated ahead of him. Our party of three waited about 25 minutes past our reservation time before being seated. We were placed at a cramped booth near the front door, clearly better suited for two people. We accepted it given how busy things were, but unfortunately, things only got worse. We were seated without menus because they had "run out", despite seeing stacks brought back to the host stand. We then sat for 30 minutes with no server, no water, and no acknowledgment. Our cups sat upside down the entire time. When I finally asked the hostess for assistance, she apologized and explained they were short-staffed. It was clear she was overwhelmed and doing her best, while another staff member stood nearby offering no help. She informed the manager that we had not been served. Shockingly, the manager, who had walked past our table multiple times holding a water container, never once stopped to check on us or fill our glasses. However, he made repeated stops at another table, openly flirting with guests. When he finally approached us, his response to our concerns lacked any accountability or professionalism. Instead of apologizing, he said: "I know we're going to have a meeting about this, and I'm going to run it and get them straight. But I'll be looking over you all personally tonight." There was no ownership, no urgency; just deflection. By this point, we had already reviewed the menu online for nearly 45 minutes and were ready to order. One person in our group ordered a drink, but the rest of us weren't even offered beverages, no water refills, no soft drinks, nothing. After over an hour of waiting, it became clear our experience was not unique. Other guests were complaining about long wait times for food. Even the table the manager had been attending closely mentioned waiting over an hour, though they received complimentary drinks. We also observed a guest request the manager, only for him to walk in the opposite direction. Despite placing our order, we were never checked on again. After an hour and a half, with barely half a glass of water between us, no food, and no service, we made the decision to leave hungry, frustrated, and exhausted. Fortunately, we went to Ruth's Chris Steak House, where the experience was the complete opposite. We were immediately greeted, even by a staff member clocking out, promptly seated, given menus, served fresh bread, and attended to professionally. By 9:14 PM, our order was already in progress. The service was exceptional. To be clear: I am not writing this to tear down a Black-owned business. I am writing this because service matters, and poor leadership has a direct impact on the customer experience. The ambiance at The Simpson was great, the music was good, and the food looked enjoyable, but we never got to experience it. The issue is leadership. The manager on duty lacked accountability, professionalism, and the ability to support his team. I observed blame instead of leadership, distraction instead of service, and reactive discounts instead of proactive solutions. That is not sustainable. As someone who is both a business owner and leader, I strongly encourage ownership to reevaluate management and invest in proper leadership training. Unfortunately, I will not be returning, and I will be honest about my experience when asked.
