Pizza means different things to different people. If you are still living in the 80's and believe that Pizza Hut and Dominos are the standard, you might think that this place is "neat". But if you appreciate a simple NY slice, or a brick oven thin crust at a high end Italian joint, this place is on par with what I imagine Digorno's tastes like. Ordered cheese bread ($3.99), Cajun chicken pizza & coke, bill came to $24.41. Picked up the order, sat down eagerly to eat in my room and appetite took a nosedive thanks to the bad quality of the food. Cheese bread was dry, crisp (too much time in the oven? Poor quality cheese/dough?) and 15 inch pizza had maybe 15 pieces of chicken all together. The sauce was tasteless, hardy any toppings, and similar to cheese bread tasted too dry. Please don't waste your good money. Dominoes is far superior. Really bad quality of pizza - probably one of the worst food order experiences ever. Staff was nice at the counter, I guess they have to compensate for the quality of the kitchen staff. Stay away, Memphis. read more

I've read reviews about other Memphis pizza and the consensus seems to be it's all pretty forgettable but this extra cheese pizza was so gross my boyfriend and I were concerned perhaps it had gone bad. You know that somewhere is near and dear to your heart when you find out you are moving and can't imagine living without it. That is the case with Memphis Pizza Cafe. We seriously have take out from here at least once a week. The crust is crisp and light, the toppings fresh, and the sauce a mild flavor that doesn't overpower. I recommend the calzones. Warning, though, you must like ricotta to enjoy a calzone. It comes with marina sauce to dip it in which is a great addition. You can build your own pizza or go with one of their specialty pizzas. A 10 inch is more than enough for one person, but my husband always goes for a 13 inch just for himself. The sandwhiches are pretty good as well. If you go that route, try the half sandwhich, half salad combo with the Italian Salad. Good stuff! read more

Last time I ate there the waitress took my plate away then asked me was I finished (busy lunchtime). Today I called in my order for take out. I gave them 10 extra minutes when I got there they had no idea what I was talking about, stared at me like a tree full of owls and made no effort to rectify the problem. I love their food but their service is horrible. Guess thats what you get from a bunch of kids without leadership. I have never seen anyone over 25 working there. There were only five customers when I went to pick up my order today so it could not have been too hard for 7 employees to get an order. When I want a good, quick thin crust pizza, this is the spot. I love the buffalo ranch chicken, and the "Hey Meat" is awesome. They also have a great breakfast pizza that is the best I've had....ever. I think it's reasonably priced, and leftovers the next day are amazing. Maybe I need to give this place another try (or another location) since I hear so many rave about it (and should I do so I will update my review), but for all the hype I was thoroughly unimpressed. The service was below average; not very attentive or friendly and seemed like it was mostly teenagers or college kids. The pizza itself was pretty underwhelming. I've had better chain pizza than this. Of course, that's my opinion. Maybe I just tried the wrong location or the wrong pizza. Hubby and I visited the famous and most raved about Memphis pizza cafe! We visited the park ave location on Sunday evening around 4:30 so it was not crowded and the atmosphere was nice. This was our first time but we had heard so much about how good the pizza was that we had to try it. We started off with the dinner salads with red wine vinegar dressing which was good but I especially loved that we could order a 1/2 order which was plenty and left room for our pizza. We ordered the large cheese pizza and added 4 toppings (green pepper, onion, mushroom and pepperoni). When the pizza came it was Hot! I mean steam rolling off the pizza Hot! This pizza was good. No doubt however I wouldn't go as far as saying it is the best pizza in Memphis (hubby agrees) but we are partial to russo's pizza. The thin crust makes MPCs' pizza really good. The crust was crisp and fresh. The ingredients tasted fresh and the pizza was not greasy -a big plus. The service was good and our waitress was very attentive we never had to ask for refills on our drinks. All in all we will go back again as it is a good place to eat before we grocery shop at fresh market. read more

I will say this pizza was worth the wait! It did take a while for it to bake and be brought out but man oh man was this delicious pizza! I like how you can order slices and add what ever topping you want. I had two cheese pizzas, one with garlic and spinach, and then another with spinach and tomatoes. I checked the reviews after ordering and I feel bad that I didn't order the calzone. Almost everyone said that the calzone was the way to go because of how big they are and how delicious they can be. For pizza fans, this is a good staple to get a slice or whole pizza. It's pretty straight-forward stuff, we went during lunch on a weekend, when it was quiet, and enjoyed the place to ourselves. Pretty large interior, with a patio outside to sit and relax with friends, family, or yourself on a nice day. Several different toppings to choose from. The service was surprising slow, even though it was fairly empty, but the server was nice. May have taken longer because fewer people were on staff during the day. I ordered the café supreme with the only meat being pepperoni You would think that they would put more pepperoni since they weren't putting the sausage, beef or Canadian bacon. But no, the pizza maker only put one slice of pepperoni per slice of pizza. I asked the representative there and he said well they would've put more if you asked of course. My boyfriend and I have two main places we go to for pizza: for a thicker crust, we go to his family's longtime favorite, Garibaldi's, and for those thin crust cravings, we stick to Memphis Pizza Cafe. Also, to be honest, a lot of the decision is based on whether we want BBQ chicken pizza (Memphis Pizza Cafe) or anything else (Garibaldi's). I've had a few different kinds of pizza from Memphis Pizza Cafe, but what I love the most is their BBQ pizza. They don't mess around with mixing BBQ sauce with tomato sauce (a combination I find to be a bit gross) and they shred their chicken instead of cooking it up in chunks, which are two hugely important things to me. They start with a tasty BBQ sauce base, topped with one or two kinds of cheeses and perfectly seasoned, shredded chicken and it makes for a delicious pizza. The flavors are spot on and the crust is light and crunchy. The pizzas don't seem to have that same "gooey cheese" factor that other restaurant pizzas do, which can make them a little dry sometimes (but certainly helps cut back on the greasiness factor), but all in all, they make a pretty solid thin crust pizza. I've also tried a few of their calzones, which are super cheesy and tasty, and I've had their house salad, which is just a basic iceberg lettuce-with-some-carrot-and-a-piece-of-spinach kind of thing. The restaurant is in a great location, but the space itself is a little lackluster. The inside is a bit grubby and quite casual, but the staff is really friendly, service is quick, and parking is pretty easy. We often do carry out, which is usually pretty quick, and the guys at the counter are always nice. All in all, if you're looking for a tasty thin crust pizza, give it a shot, especially if you've got a hankering for BBQ pizza. read more

I was taken to dinner at Memphis Pizza on a recent business trip to the city. A friend of mine who lives in Memphis took me there with his family one evening. The pizza was great and the atmosphere was very laid back and casual. Our server was very friendly and we got our food really quickly. First of all, it was more than enough food for the two of us... My husband is a thin crust pizza guru and he thought the pizza was good. His only complaint was... He would want more sauce (he likes a lot of sauce).. But said crust was awesome... My calzone was perfect for me... Not too doughy... Had lots of cheese and chicken. Memphis pizza cafe is delicious, but beyond that their service is second to none. Tonight when we ordered pizza to go they got the order wrong (it was extremely busy, these things happen.) We didn't realize till we got home. I can eat anything, she however is very picky. When I called up and told them about the mix up, the manager Chad immediately offered to replace it at no additional charge and was incredibly friendly about it.
