Every time I visit Memphis, it is a must that I stop by the Memphis Pizza Café. They've several locations in the city, but I prefer the location on Park Avenue in East Memphis. The café Supreme is my favorite pie: we're talkin' a thin crust topped with mozzarella, Canadian bacon, pepperoni, beef, sausage, green peppers, mushrooms, and onions. Nom! Pair it with a local brew from Ghost River or a bottle of Texas's finest Shiner Bock and you're about to have one hell of a party in your mouth. Memphis Pizza Café also boasts an impressive selection of salads and sandwiches. Try the chef's salad or the blackened chicken sandwich if you're looking for an alternative to MPC's usual fare. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant smells good but I find the food to be just ok. I've tried a few pizzas, a calzone, and Greek salads. The salad is fine but has too much pepperoni which is odd for a Greek salad. And adding olives doesn't make it Greek. The pizza crust is thin & crisp, which is nice but the crust has no flavor. Perhaps a little olive oil or salt in the crust would turn it around. Toppings were fine and plentiful. The calzone tasted very floury, almost like they didn't bake it in the pizza oven. There is plenty of mozz in the filling but it could use more ricotta to make the filling more creamy. Overall it is a fine place but not food I will seek out when I crave pizza. read more

Memphis Pizza Cafe is one of my favorite places to have lunch. The local chain is inexpensive, has a lot of menu options (but not too many), and it's remarkably consistent. The East Memphis location (on Park, between Mendenhall and White Station) is always completely packed around lunchtime, but the Midtown and Germantown locations are usually a bit more sane. Today, I had a slice of Ultimate Cheese (it has at least four different kinds of cheese on it) and one of Canadian Bacon (more commonly known as ham). The thin crust slices were big and super hot when they came to the table (but they came with a knife and fork, which was perfect). You should definitely make a stop at Memphis Pizza Cafe. I love the alternative pizza, in some places known as "margherita," a no-sauce pizza with mozzarella, basil, and sliced grape tomatoes, and the barbecue chicken pizza and 3-cheese pizza are favorites of mine as well. they serve a wide variety of pizzas and you also have the option to pay per ingredient. They also serve massive calzones, along with sandwiches and salads. They serve beer but do not have a full bar. I'm not sure if they have beer on tap. This is a great place to go for groups or with kids. I loved it as a kid and my 4 year old niece loves it now. It's definitely a good traditional Memphis spot. Lastly, I've found the staff here to be consistently helpful and friendly. I rate the East Memphis location a star ahead of the midtown one because while I've found some of the staff at the midtown location to be unfriendly or unhelpful, I've never had a problem at the Park avenue location.
