Guess I never knew Menards was like a candy store for grown adults who are into DIY projects. This place even has candy and canned products (maybe more too, but I just have not ventured off throughout the entire store to actually check). If you can't find what you are looking for to complete a project in your house/apt then you don't know what you are looking for and you should hire someone else to do that project for you. This Menards is a huge 2 floor building that literally has everything including the kitchen sink. I usually am not the shopper at this place but my roommates are frequent visitors. I think by now the workers there know them by face. They can't seem to leave the store without buying something, which means that this place is doing one great job of making sure people get what they need and then some. Arrived 30 minutes before they closed with a list of 5 things: Power strip with a flat head that lays flat against the wall, and 4 other things that were in the ad: a warning light that shows you when to stop when you're parking in your garage, a draft stopper, a bamboo cutting board, and air filters for my furnace. One person asked me when I arrived if I needed help, and they showed me the warning light (although there was no price tag, so I had no idea if it was the one in the ad or if it came with a rebate). They also told me that the cutting boards were upstairs with the cabinets, and not downstairs with the food (where I thought it was). However, I could not find them, or anything else on my list. Power strips are apparently not in the electrical section, and none of the section names even made any sense with any of the other items I was looking for. With 10 minutes left before they closed, I started looking for someone to help me, but no one even looked at me, and the guy with a walkie (I assume, the manager) turned and walked away when I headed towards him after making eye contact. Menards is my internet home page on my cell phone. That is how much I use them to fix up our 1910 house. Of the box stores, they have the most user friendly site. This location is great.... except for the parking entrance. Go to the second entry point by outside lumber yard for less congestion. I have had excellent help ordering windows and doors. All special orders send an immediate email and an email on arrival. You can custom build your door on line, print it, and hand it to the person at the desk. Gardening is my other love. Menards plant material comes from Wisconsin grower. This is extremely important in our zone 4. The west St Paul location has the best plant selection during the growing season, but most stores are similar. Get a menards big card for an annual 2 percent back plus you can print any receipt in store. Prices are hard to beat. Especially if you shop sales and promotions. Their prices on nails and screws are great. If you are building a fence or deck, it can save you a lot. I give them 4 stars because it's a big box store that has a ton of employees. You won't get the same service as a local hardware store. They also sell a lot of crap. Know what you want and research a bit to avoid that mistake. read more

Do NOT order anything big from them. I ordered a fridge in Feb and by mid-May nothing. They pushed me off to Whirlpool who never contacted me for delivery. It's just MIA and they have my $2800. I finally canceled the order (Lowes and Home Depot have the fridge I was stupid not to just order from them) and I STILL don't have a refund. Want to talk to someone? you may not even know this Menards exists because it is a little hard to see unless you are looking.....and when you live in the heart of the neighborhoods up in St. Paul this store can come in quite handy if you are trying to gather a lot of things all in one trip. They have everything and even a people mover in the middle of the store. It isn't an escalator it is a moving walkway that just goes up....pretty dang snazzy....We have purchased a ton of things over time here. Garbage bags, light bulbs, small hand tools, and lots and lots of hardware for the home to hang pictures make repairs kill varmits.....They always have a huge amount of items for the seasons--annuals in the spring, Christmas decor and trees in the winter. glad that the community supports this business as it is well needed... read more

Its my neighborhood big box hardware store. Its fine, prices are fine, impossible to get help from someone when you need it, but that's no different than any other store of this type anywhere. Its average, but I will continue to be a customer as it is close and the prices are good. read more

So I hadn't been back to Menards since my last review (I've been to Home Depot a handful of times in that time), but yesterday I decided to give them another shot. Alas, they still don't seem to have this COVID thing figured out. Online ordering seems to be smoother, although they still have a picking fee, which basically negates the cost savings you get from shopping there. Now they send you a receipt with a bar code on it to get into the lumber yard area where the pickup is, but I must have missed the sign about scanning the bar code to get in, cuz I drove right past the scanner. The guy in the booth helped me out. He asked me if I knew where I was going, I said no, and he said, "It's just to the left." I wasn't clear on whether that meant left behind the store (where I had to pick stuff up last time) or the immediate left. There was a big sign with an arrow showing where to go, but it wasn't lit up, at 6:30 at night when it's pitch black out. There were some concrete blocks set at angles where you're supposed to park to pick stuff up, with small 8.5"x11" (and also not lit) signs telling you the number to call to have your order brought out. I was the only one waiting for an order at 6:30 on a weeknight (whereas I bet Home Depot's curbside spots were completely full at that time), and it took about 10 minutes for someone to finally come out with my order. Given how smoothly curbside ordering is going practically everywhere else these days, it'll be awhile before I try Menards again. Also, I wish they had a way you could use your merchandise credit postcards in their online ordering system. read more

I am here all the time come gardening season. I am here all the time between gardening seasons. Basically, I love this place. The store is massive, which makes quick trips impossible, but their prices can verge on unbelievable for normal household stuff, in addition to everything else. We get tons of everyday stuff here: dog food & rawhides for the mutts, toilet paper, paper towels, cleaning supplies, and some dry food items. Not to mention everything we need fixing up our house and preparing the garden. Returns are a cinch. They have magical receipt-finding computers at the front of the store so as long as you used a check or some sort of card for the purchase, you're golden. The layout of the store is not intuitive, but this is probably because they sell EVERYTHING. read more

Never thought I give a review on menards. My one star will negatively affect menards at this location overall. That's how ratings work. The fact they need to work on their security. Seriously just spent $200 today and the Hispanic security they had there profiled me when I walked into the store and at my check experience he hurried to the exit where I was walking out and literally stared as I walked out with my purchase like I was stealing. Seriously I make more money than this unofficial police security who can only file reports and not arrest. Besides the security I feel like it was also the cashier who flagged the security over to make sure we weren't going to run out with the cart of our purchased merchandise? Serioulsy who has the time to steal a cart full of merchandise on top of loading it up in the car before security catches up. Wtf. The cashier turned on her blinking lights to the register and stalls the transaction when there was nothing wrong or price check needed on a item or manager approval of anything. Smh! What is wrong with people. Compare to other menards this menards just has bad staff with bad public communication skills on top of customer service. Being made fun by an employee in the return center on a different occasion was not a pleasant experience for having gauges in my ears. If I was to make fun of her obesity and slow work ethics she does in the return department after what she said to me I would've been "the a-hole" right? Oh good old Menards.... Being a WI girl and growing up in the NW region where menards has it's roots (Eau Claire), I have known them from when I was a kid and they were just starting to challenge the farm and fleets of the day. Since then, they have become a behemouth of home improvement (and now venturing into other stuff). I mostly frequent the Hudson location but after visiting this place, I felt the need to share some comments. This place is HUGE! 2 story with a moving cart size escalator to the top and elevators. The problem with that is everything is so stretched out and not a whole lot of people around on a saturday to direct you where you are suppose to go. One thing that struck me though... Although they seem bigger than the Hudson location, they seemed to have a smaller selection of light bulbs which is what I was looking for. Oh, and something strange and unexpected, at the top of the escalator, there was a grand piano and a man was playing away on it (a pleasant if not weird surprise). My guy wanted to order a window but the guy working in that department was not so helpful with taking measurements or ordering. He didn't seem to take a real strong customer service approach. This is overall a theme with Menards though. I have had to return stuff before and their returns department is slow and unorganized. I do give them credit for having clean and organized displays (if somewhat hard to find sometimes). The last time I was there to find a pipe wrench, I seemed to be searching forever to find it! All in all, a way better option than Home Depot and better selection than Farm and Fleet for tools and everyday stuff. Prices are pretty comparable to the aforementioned. read more

They DO NOT honor the 11% rebate. It's been over 4 months, with several calls to customer service. I've gotten everything from "it's been processed and the check is in the mail" to "we have no record of receiving your rebate form" Not the first person to get burned by this - just read the reviews or better yet ask your neighbors; chances are they've been burned too. There's a freaking grand piano here and on weekends there's a piano player to go with it:) way better prices than Home Depot and usually wider more professional selections. Poorly organized however and although there is usually staff about they don't ask if you need help and if they or you ask it's hit or miss if they know anything at all. I have a love/hate relationship with Menards. I love nothing more than a bunch of random building supplies designed to perform rather than fulfill some marketing niche. On the other hand, i tire of Menards' lack of organization, propensity to stock cheap, ugly products (as long as they're made in the US of A!). Nonetheless, I had a pretty nasty experience here last week. Question: Where are the child-proofing kits? I'm looking for a wall anchor for cabinets. Answer #1. I don't know, let me ask someone. Answer #2: Um, two places, furniture and child proofing, in plumbing (?) {2 minute ride on the ginormous cart escalator} Answer #3: (plumbing) What's that? Oh, here are some baby monitors. Answer #4: (furniture) Oh, here's the section ... looks like we're out of it. Well, i'd have to check the computer to see if we have more. (Can you do that please?) On this second review of the Prior Ave Menards I've had to take down a star. The reason is empty shelf space. Here it is the beginning of lawn raking season and no Yard Bags. This time I went to the service desk where a young lady was wearing ear buds. I asked her if she knew when they would have Yard Bags again and she said they just ran out and will take .."a few days." I mentioned it's quite early in the season to be out already why don't they order enough to last a few months. Her explanation helped me understand why this location may be out of so many items when I need them. Menards has ordering restrictions for each location. Evidently they don't want overstock or items that have to be sent back. Lately when I tried to find the large air filter and water filter for my furnace they didn't have them in stock yet even though it was Labor Day weekend. I told the employee this is what drives people to Home Depot. "Yes, I know." She replied. "You'll have to talk to Menards about that." I did drive to Home Depot, I don't particularly like that store's lay-out. I found they had two pallets of Yard Bags, ready for the season. I'm also buying my air and water filters there to. I think Menards has an edge on Home Depot on better prices for some items and more selection of a particular item ( i.e. light bulbs) but it's a gamble, will I waste time going there to find an empty shelf or will I find the bargain? read more

This Menards is, dare I say, sort of fancy. It's huge and has two levels, and there's a ramp escalator in the middle of the store so you can take your cart up/down. There's a guy playing the piano in the center of the store (like they used to have at Nordstrom) that made having to schlep through a Menards on a Saturday actually pretty pleasant. read more

I'm not a fan of huge places like this. I come from time to time. Not for the the customer service, because you can never find anyone, but for the huge selection. Yes they have everything. Lumber, tile, canning supplies and crock pots. I always feel like I'm lost here wandering around trying to find what I need. I even had a rude encounter with someone at the returns desk, who told me to go to the back of the line when I already had a transaction in progress. Great customer service. I so hate this store. Home Depot is priced better and the customers are treated better. First the store is infested with mice. Every time I have been in this store I see them and the feces are around the food area and it doesn't get cleaned up. I would not purchase any food in this store. Second, the owner or management is so worried someone is going to steal something it's ridiculous. Customer service is poor. One other thing is when I take something back the cashier wants to give me store credit instead of my money back. I purchased a snow blower 8 days ago and while using it for a second time, the chute mechanism failed. It rotated freely causing frustration during operation. It's the $400 Briggs & Straton snow blower - btw, great single stage snow blower, tons of power. This 1 star review is for the customer service and lack of communication around policy. If you purchase any gas powered equipment at menards and put gas in it (imagine that, you put gas in your mower) they will not take it back, PERIOD. They give you a list if service centers where you can have it serviced for a price. Go to Sears, Lowes, Home Depot for your gas powered equipment, if there is a problem, they'll happily replace. They won't stand there with a smug look telling you that this is store policy, sorry. HORRIBLE and I'm disappointed around the whole experience. Remember, Sears, Home Depot, Lowes are the better alternative for gas powered equipment. read more

Lumber yard people have no clue where anything is. When I ask, they either point me to the wrong location or give me something like "It's over in the corner there...". I have spent 40 minutes trying to find a 2 x 4 x 7'. Hard to find because this was in the barn. But the rest of the 2 x 4s are somewhere else in the yard. This is one example of a VERY DISORGANIZED lumber yard and hard to find anything. Yesterday I tried to purchase about $300 of lumber on line - web site failed and would not allow me to make the purchase, and I still have no clue why. I finally gave up and made the on-line purchase very easily at Home Depot. I'm giving up on Menard's. EVERY time I go there something frustrates me - always beginning with their parking lot which is made more for Toyota Prius's, not pick-up trucks. I'm now strictly a Home Depot customer - the 11% rebate is not worth the frustration. This Menard's is very poorly managed. They don't understand what a gold mine they could have there due to the location - if they did not screw it up with extremely poor customer service. Good bye, Menard's! read more

I reluctantly did a Black Friday run for only the third time in my life. The first was in 1978 at Best Buy in Rochester, MN, waiting 45 minutes in a blizzard only to have none of the items sought still on the shelves when we got in. My second experience involved waiting in line 90 minutes for checkout at Kohls a couple of years ago. My expectations were not high, but Menard's had some nice hammocks at a good price. When I arrived, the line was half way around the parking lot. Didn't look good. However, upon entering, I received a map showing the location of every item in their flyer. All Black Friday merchandise was segregated in 7 areas highlighted on the map. At each endcap throughout the store, there was an employee to help you. When I got to my area, there were at least 10 people there to lead me to whatever I was looking for. I expected perhaps a handful of these hammocks, there were four cases. I got four different items and some other hardware to boot, then made my way to get in the long lines at checkout. There were no lines. Each checkout station was open and positioned with one person to check you out, and a second person to bag your merchandise and put it in your cart, so they kept the flow going very efficiently. I was in and out of there in a half hour, probably better than I would have been if it had been a regular retail day. Thanks Menard's, you guys (and gals) did it right! See you next year! read more

If I can give this place NO Stars I would. The Check out service was TERRIBLE!!! I will Never come back here again. Everything we brought had a Sticker BARcode on it! and when we check out None of them were scanning and then the dumb people working there didn't even know the Price for anything. We got wood in the SCRAP section and the means you have to look through all that shit for good pieces which my husband did and then the fucken lady was making f*cken prices for it. SHE Said "these are the nicer pieces of wood so it will be more." If there wasn't a f*cken line behind me I would of made that b*tch walk all the way back with me to go look at the price. Customer service! I think not!!! At least not on a recent Sunday. I wanted two things, a patio table and bags of wood chips. Getting someone to help me was impossible. I looked everywhere for a Menard's employee, to no avail. So, I went to the Customer Service desk. That person was rude and acted like I was bothering her by asking a question. I wanted to talk with someone about a patio table that was on display. She made a phone call and told me to wait by the table. I did. I waited and waited. Finally, I went back to her and told her no one showed up. She said that the "manager of the department said he would go there". She called again. I went back. The "manager" was really rude and acted all pissed off that he had to talk to me. I was really to spend $400 on a table, but I walked away. The two of them really put me off. So, I went in search of wood chips. I finally found someone that pointed outside. "Where outside?" He pointed again. I headed outside into no-where land. I was walking around a massive area with on one in sight. I wandered and looked high and low. I couldn't see the wood chips. I went back in and found someone. He came with me and again, acted all pissed and bothered. (isn't their job to help customers?) We finally found a stack of bags of wood chips out in the massive area. They were hidden between other things. Why are they out there? Why can't they be inside with the other gardening supplies? It was an awful experience and I don't want to go back. read more

We have had pretty mediocre experiences at Menard - Midway over the years. Today it hit bottom and we will not be back. It is normally hard to find anyone with knowledge willing to help. One of our simple tasks was to find where they had moved picture frames to. We had gone to the project desk to get a fence post and cement order. Which we got quickly. We asked him where the picture frames were. He said take the elevator upstairs and turn left. We did and they were not their. We asked a worker in the door area. He said he did not know but would look it up. He could not find it but said it was 525D and should be around by the elevator. We looked over there though it was plumbing and bathrooms. We asked another worker. He did not seem to know, so I mentioned the 525D which the last guy had mentioned. He said "that's in paint." We said we had been sent upstairs and asked why it would be in paint. His curt response was "did you look in paint?" When I said no he added, "Then why are you asking me?" At this point we walked out and decided it was our last visit to Mendards. read more

Menards Midway St Paul store is a great place for everything needed for your home maintenance. There is no other major chain that is willing to place a store in the city, so Menards wins for convenience and willingness to serve us city folk. I visit several times a week and encourage other Twin Cities residents to so the same. read more
