Earlier this year, I came to the store in a good mood and left irritated due to poor service. There was a greeter by the door, to whom I smiled, and she snarled her face at me a little bit and turned away. When ringing up my items, the man behind the counter also looked away and started talking with his coworker in a manner that let it be known he did not want to serve me--very obvious that he was treating me as an inferior. Most of the time I have had decent experiences here but this trip rubbed me such the wrong way that I have not returned--nor will I. Paying employees who do their best to lose customers is a waste of money. read more

We moved to the area several months ago and Mendo Mill is our local go-to for our immediate home needs. In each visit we have been able to find what we are looking for, with the selection being adequate to meet our needs. We have found the the customer service to be friendly, helpful, and personable. On more than one occasion we have found an associate help us troubleshoot issues and come up with a solution. Generally, immediate needs can be met by stopping by and shopping. Unfortunately, Mendo Mill is a bit expensive and we will go up to Ukiah for Home Depot if we have time and/or have a more complicated need or tool purchase. read more

Fun fact, this store is by far the most expensive Hardware/Lumber store I've ever seen and for a good reason. We're stuck in a region that's isolated. I've never seen so many things marked up beyond high prices. If you can suck it up and make a trip to Ukiah they have a Home Depot there. This place makes Home Depot seem cheap. Make a list of items to buy then drive the distance to Ukiah. If not this place will nickel and dime you. I have been a returning customer here for years and just this past week I spent a couple thousands of dollars. About a year ago, I ran into a predicament with the manager DD. I ended up giving the store another chance and did not have any problems until last week. I came in to purchase some wood posts which were priced at $10 more than Home Depot. When I got home, most of the posts were ugly and had holes and of course I would like to choose what I pay for. So, I went back and the store manager Loui apologized and ended up price matching and honoring this price for me. I was very appreciative of that since I was going to be purchasing a large amount. I needed a few more panels so I came back to the store today. Unfortunately, I will not be returning. I was checking out to buy 4x6 posts and I brought my previous receipts so that whoever was ringing me up could price match. The manager DD refused immediately. I'm not sure if this is because I am a person of color or because she was just straight up RUDE! She did not even look at the receipt or anything before quickly saying "No". So I asked her, "how are you going to say no before I've even said anything" and she continued to say no. I explained to her that the store manager Loui price matched the posts for me and she responded with "well he's in a meeting and I'm not gonna do that". She then tried to claim that the store never price matches to Home Depot which is clearly the biggest lie. They just price matched me twice in the last week. She stood there and asked if I wanted help and I told her well clearly not from you! She was the most rude and unprofessional manager I've come by. My husband came in today to get a piece of lumber for a job ~ he's a handyman and spends ALOT of $ there ~ and there was a crew of young men in the lumberyard to help customers. They were loading bags of cement, but one stopped to ask if my husband needed help. He immediately left to get what was needed, bringing the lumber back on a forklift. Before my man could reach down for it, the young man actually raised the lift to bring it up for him to more easily pick it up. THANK YOU FOR INCREDIBLE SERVICE!!! You guys deserve a HUGE raise!!! We are aware that Mendo Mill pays their workers minimum wage. WHHAATT!!! Do they not understand how much their employees do to create such a great relationship with our community?? The way they talk to there employees is disgusting treating an older open like she's stupid and being short with her because she needed help with a return, and on that note when I went and bought the stuff I thought I needed, I was talking to an employee for a while trying to see what would work and he acted like he didn't have a doubt in the world about what he was telling me so I listened and when I go home it doesn't work obviously and so I try to return it and they said they can't because it has to be in resealable condition it was the package that was opened because how else are you supposed to see if something is gonna work unless you open it. The manager Deidre. I think her name was, was utterly disrespectful to the poor cashier Patty who was just trying to help me. They've lost my business not that they got very much of it. I went in this morning for Henry's wet patch it's pouring rain. I saw rain jackets on a rack and there were 2 prices on rack. $29.99 for rain pants and rain jacket. The other price was $21.99 for a rain jacket. The picture looked a little different so I asked the man who was walking passed me if $21.99 was the correct price? He said; I don't know I don't have a scan gun. So I took the jacket with me to the register after deciding myself that it must be $21.99. (Because I don't have a gun either). When the friendly cashier rang up my purchases I saw that it said $29.99 I had her take it off since other people were in line behind me. I went back to the rack and investigated myself. I went back and told her that it says $21.99, she called Alias? Not sure but he went over with me and determined that those jackets haven't been priced yet. I said well they are here on the rack under the sign that says $21.99. Yea that's not the price. I said, at my store we would give that price because that's what it is "signed" under. He said he was sorry. I made the purchase anyways and left. My husband says he doesn't need it and I am going to return it but the customer service was a little disappointing. Except for the cashier. I have a problem with poor customer service and this is actually the second time I have given a review for poor customer service for this store. Called support they told me it needed higher voltage circuit breaker. Replaced breaker, still not heating water properly. Called support again, was told there was no warranty on this heater 1 Star t is leaking. Still shining and looks like brand new, just out of the factory. Need replacement. 1 Star One month old and it started acting up error code on the solenoid 1Star I've had to call the repairman 7 times and they've not been able to fix the problem. 1 Star Boiler failed, they sent a tech out 3 days later. He was fine, but couldn't figure out the issue. His solution was to order a new control pane 1 Star I bought a house with an expiring 10 yr rental agreement. Called to see about canceling, and was quoted a $840 buyout clause. A brand new model costs about the same 1 Star I bought a water heater three years ago. Now, for no reason, the burner assembly has gone bad. 1 Star His recommendation was to put towels down to stop the water until then???? 1 Star So we did. The guy came to fix it and Lo and behold still yellow water. Go figure. Then I call them again. It is now May. 1 Star They cancelled my appointment I booked two days ago for a water heater that is leaking in my basement. When I told the rep that there was damage being caused she told me to use a towel? 1 star CLEARLY INFERIOR PRODUCT Inferior product. Water heater less than 2 1/2 years old will not light. Replaced thermostat, over $100. Still not lighting. Next step replace thermopile, over $150. If this doesn't work will have to replace water heater. 2 STAR cosmetic damage, a series of dents/scrapes 8" in length, and decided to proceed with installation. 1 STAR DOES NOT HONER WARRINTY However, after 2 years, in 2013, the hot water stopped. George Morlan sent out a service tech and he determined that the thermostats had failed. He replaced them under warranty but the labor charge was $99. 1 STAR The service center has not resolved my issues and will not honor their own warranty. They keep saying sorry 1 STAR Buyer beware. I bought a Reliance product and what a joke. 1 STAR This time they did not honor their warranty 1 STAR BROKEN RIGHT OUT THE BOX I purchased Reliance's 40 gallon water heater and after installation and powering up after the tank had filled, there is NO heat. This water heater was dead right out of the box 1 STAR NO WARRINTY 3 REPAIRS I contacted Reliance and advised our water heater (640DORS) was not working and that it was still under warranty 1 STAR I installed a new water tank with Reliance. I never had a problem before but ever since the new tank came in we started experiencing rumbling noises. WILL CHARGE YOU 1 STAR I purchased a model 6-40 EORT 100 on 3/3/2017. I have gone to mendo mill for years ( mostly due to lack of options ) for the last year or so they have advertising stating 20% and then post a price in the ad mailer. Most people assume the ad price than minus 20%. That is not the case. That is the final price. This deceptive advertising is the last straw. DO NOT SHOP AT MENDO MILL!! Just avoid this place at all cost. I try to support local as much as possible but this is one time I would say go to a big store to get the best deals and save yourself a headache. read more

Just got back from MM, Clearlake CA. Stood out in the yard trying to get help buying some bricks. There were 2 others there ahead of me. No employees taking notice of us. The guy at the check out gate was sitting on his butt talking to someone. He made zero effort to call for clerks to help us - or even say "Hey we are real busy but someone will be here as soon as they are free." When I asked him how we get help in the yard he said "I'm just security. I shoot you when you leave." I'm sure he was trying to be funny but it was very inappropriate. The people working inside are very helpful. The guys in the yard seem to do whatever they can to avoid customers. I live right across the street. I have spent at least $20,000 over the years. Two years ago I remolded and spent $10,000 in 3 months. It's not about the fact that I am a regular customer. I just don't like to be ignored by someone driving a fork lift right past the 3 of us and not even waving or saying he will be back as soon as he can. The security guard said everyone was busy with customers. I know that was BS since I could see one forklift was loading lumber into their shed/ barn. Not a customer in sight. If his story was really true then it is apparent they need more workers in the yard - especially on the weekends. read more

We recently moved to Clearlake Oaks. We are remodeling and went a couple of times and left because of the rude and poor customer service. I stood in line and paid for what I wanted and got my yard ticket. I went out to the yard and I parked and I waited and eventually somebody came over to see what I needed and sent me over to one section. I went over there and one of the staff saw me coming but left anyway and so I waited and a guy came over and told me I was in the wrong area and to go somewhere else and so I went there. And nobody came and so then I got out to load it myself and nothing on the shelves matched the price that I paid so I wasn't sure which thing to get. I went back inside and I got my money back and then I called, while on my way to kelseyville lumber, to say this experience was ridiculous. I explained the whole thing to the person who answered the phone and said that it was a "f****** waste of my time". And her response was that she didn't need that kind of language. Lol. Mendo Mill is a lumber yard and hardware store. I find the store easy to shop with plenty of help. I special ordered a set of closet doors and the woman in the design department was friendly, knowledgeable and patient. The manufacturers rep was in the store and she did not hesitate to invite him into our conversation to help answer questions. I find the lumberyard difficult to shop...hard to get help. More help there would get them a 4th star from me. They have weekly ads in the paper with nice promotions. read more

We are rehabbing a property so have spent alot of time and money at Mendo Mill in the past few months. Their prices are as good as the large box stores like Home Depot from what we seen, and they offer alot of different products. We have not had trouble being served in the lumberyard. The service has been freindly and effectiv ewith one exception. There is a lady that works exclusively at the Customer Service counter whom we have found to be consistently rude and dismissive. I think perhaps she has been there a long time and so feels she doesn't have to cater to the customer. However, her manner is very offputting. Other than that, this is an excellent all around home improvement store. read more
