DO NOT GO HERE This place used to be my absolute favorite. It's really close to my house so my family and I would eat there about once a month but after the experience we had this past weekend, none of us will be going back. The sushi itself is delicious, but the staff is ignorant, rude, dismissive, and has no idea what's going on in regards to their own establishment. The level of attitude we received was astounding. I honestly feel a little bad for the owner/owners as he/she most likely doesn't know what goes on when he/she is not around because I have a really difficult time believing that a business owner of a farely successful restaurant such as this one, would be able to tolerate that kind of behavior. Ordered: Spicy Scallop Handroll, Rainbow Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Sunflower Roll, Spicy Jalapeno Roll (special) Ambiance: Overall nice and clean place with the dining area walled in from the front desk so theres minimal light from windows. The dark and solid furniture with your stereotypical japanese decorations (bamboo, blue banners, etc) make this a good date spot. The staff are friendly enough and refilled our waters so no complaints there. The biggest issue we had was that the underside of our soy sauce dish and bowls had this crusty white grime baked on the bottoms from their machine washer. It was a little off-putting but the dining surfaces were fine and we put it out of our minds. Food: Generally speaking, I had issue with the rice which was a little on the dry side and the fish. The rice will admittedly vary depending on when you go but biting into the fish, I was struck by how little flavor there was. The texture was fine, definitely not melt-in-your-mouth though. The rainbow roll was pretty standard with a good balance between the artificial crab, avocado, and cucumber. The spicy tuna roll had avocado in it which was admittedly tasty, but they need to scale it down because it completely overwhelmed the tuna. I was disappointed by how mild the spicy tuna and scallops were but thats pretty typical most places. The spicy jalapeno roll was supposed to have cream cheese and jalapenos deep-fried with spicy tuna but the roll had no discernable jalapenos and the cream cheese overwhelmed everything. My wife really enjoyed the sunflower roll which was very beautiful and tasted fine but be warned its one of those ginormous rolls that take 2 bites to eat without risking choking on it. Overall the food here was middle-of-the-road and the prices fair. My biggest issue was that the fish was bland and the rolls really had an issue balancing the flavors that were there. My nephew recommended that I try this place. I was a little hesitant, because I eat sushi frequently and am VERY particular about it. They had a new appetizer that they recommended that I try. I was a small plate of octopuses (octopi?). Yes probably octopi. They were amazing. I had two types of hot tea. The house hot tea, and a Korean traditional hot ginger tea. They were both very good. The appetizer was so good I didn't even eat my miso soup. I had a sashimi lunch plate, and it was so extremely fresh, and amazing. The wasabi was extremely potent. Typically I get extra, but theirs was so strong, I didn't need extra. I'm sure this review sounds like a commercial, but you really need this food. Like NEED it. It's that good. read more

They changed their menu recently, and it's great. The food has improved in quality, which is good to see. From the new menu, I'd say that the best-tasting roll is the Big Y.O (but it's just my opinion). I usually stay away from cream cheese and/ or salmon when getting sushi, and they added some nice alternatives (ex: a fried Tsunami roll). Come check out the new menu for yourself. read more

Recently decided to check this place out after a few years of being out of state. I used to go here a bunch in high school with friends and this was the spot to be! I wasn't interested in sushi back then, but the Hot and Spicy Chicken was one of my all-time favorite dishes. I tried my beloved Hot and Spicy Chicken this visit, and was shocked how it tasted like ketchup mixed with a little bit of Siracha. Not at all as I remember! Have been eating at MENE since they were at their original location on 12 and Orchard. My son actually celebrated his 4th Birthday at the sushi bar. Since the new owners took over, I have noticed a drastic decline in the atmosphere, service and food. We have tried it numerous times thinking that the next time will be better only to be disappointed. MENE is no longer the King of Sushi. UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT I have been coming here since I was in high school and it has always been my go to, however on this visit things were drastically different. Too long to explain but my order was there she never bagged it. After asking when will it be ready the managing the sushi said it's been up front. I came and gave this place another shot after people said that things have improved but unfortunately I haven't seen the improvement. This used to be my favorite sushi place. My family has been going there since the restaurant originally opened, but since the new owners took over last year it's gotten progressively worse. This used to be the place we went almost weekly and would recommend it to EVERYONE. We've tried it a couple times since the new owners and are always disappointed. What a disappointing lunch experience my friend and I had today! Our waitress was non attentive and did not bring us silverware and napkins even after several reminders. She took down my order incorrectly even though it was repeated twice. She brought me a wrong order and did not apologize for any of these missteps. I doubt we will return. read more

My husband and I used to love this place. BUT the owner thought that she was slick and over charged us $25 dollars. I was floored! I just left from there and we'll never be going back there. EVERYONE CHECK YOUR BILL! And she didn't even come to the table to apologize!!! What did she think?! I wasn't going to check the bill??? She was igorant, stuck up, and honestly was making me uncomfortable with her glares and etc. I dont know why she thought it was ok to do that-and if it were a REAL ACCIDENT she would of came to our table and apologize. She asked the waitress to tell us she is sorry!! People just keep a look out for your bill. That was just so wrong. And I feel bad for those who dont bother to take a look at their bill. My husband is one of them. He is the type to just pay and go. And Im like....NO! you cant do that! Something just told me to examine the bill and I am so glad I did. AND FYI.....I knew that the waitress and owner knew that they overcharged me. Went with a group of 11 on a sunny Sunday afternoon for lunch. The service was good, and the sushi was top notch, but the Oyako Donburi and the Katsu Donburi, both staple Japanese dishes, were decidedly off. The versions they serve here had teriyaki sauce slathered on top and had lots of red and green peppers. I've had these dishes many times both in and out of Japan, and not once have I had it served with teriyaki sauce on top (this is simply not how the Japanese serve it). It's not that it wasn't tasty, it was, but the teriyaki sauce completed obscured the expected taste of the dish -- it was not, therefore, authentic Japanese food. I suppose next time I'll just have to request that they leave the sauce off. read more

Not so good. I got the nigiri sampler (chef's choice), and it was pretty sub par. Of the nine pieces, four were decent, and only two were good. If these are the chef's choices, I would be afraid to try the rest of the sushi. The fish was pre-cut, and covered in saran wrap. Hopefully it was cut fresh today, but who knows... Maybe that's standard in West Bloomfield, but I look for a little more in a sushi joint. My mom got the Bi Bam Bap, which was similarly disappointing. The flavor was nice, and it came in a hot stone bowl (which is always nice), but the ingredients were not cooked appropriately. The vegetables, and especially the rice, were just kind of mushy. Based on the other reviews, these guys must have seriously fell off. Or maybe people have low standards for sushi (not that I'm a huge snob or anything). Or maybe the rolls are considerably better. It's not terrible or anything, but you can do much better in terms of sushi, even in West Bloomfield / Farmington Hills. I definitely won't be going back. read more

While Noble Fish has been our go to favorite here in the D, we have been looking for a good 2nd choice that I can pick up on the way home from work. My fellow Yelpers gave this place a pretty good rating, so I thought we should try it as bad sushi can ruin sushi for a while. The last time I had sushi (in Northampton, MA), it made me pretty sick and it took me a while to work up to eating sushi again. We ordered standard rolls - spicy tuna, tuna, salmon, yellow tail, and some rice and edamame, to go. I was surprised at how big the restaurant was, considering it is in a strip mall. I got there at 5 pm, and the place was empty with about 3 to go orders ahead of me. In light of the pretty straight forward order and the fact that there were no less than 4 sushi chefs - our to go order took a while to finish up. The fish was fresh and cold, and the edamame was warm. The sushi rice seemed a tad over vinegared, but the rolls were good with appropriately ripe avocado, a nice spicy sauce and pretty good sizes. And it was so very reasonably priced. We're going back. read more

Love! Love! Love! This place has become one of our favorites, since our regular sushi restaurant closed during the pandemic. My daughter is VEGAN, and sometimes it's hard to find places that are willing to cater to her chosen diet. Yet, the staff has been kind enough to memorize her order each time we come. Sweet potato tempura and veggie rolls delight her every time! Shout out to COLE, as well the other amazing female server. Both are so friendly and impressive. (Sorry! My name recall is rough!) We can't say enough about how welcome and well-served we feel at Me'ne. The food is fresh and filling, and there is usually more than we can finish. Very solid sushi restaurant, especially by Detroit area standards. My parents have been going to this place since it opened and they always enjoy the reasonably priced and decent variety of sushi. Having lived in Los Angeles for the last several years, I will admit my tastes and standards on sushi are a bit skewed, but having said that, I definitely enjoy the fish whenever I visit home and dine with my family. Last time around I ordered the usual variety of maguro tuna, hamachi, mackerel and toro. I thought the toro was decent and most likely the cheaper cut chu toro due to the reasonable price and the hamachi was fantastic. The maguro I thought could be a little fresher, but I didn't get sick and am still alive, so it was probably alright. The soft shell crab appetizer served with ponzu dipping sauce on the side was also pretty good and since the owners are korean, we got the secret handshake nod and were given a whole variety of on the house kimchi/banchan items. Honestly it was a bit much, but hey pickled vegetables work for me any time of day. The vegetarian udon was decent as well, chock full of freshly chopped vegetables of all varieties, altho i felt some didn't really fit with the udon theme. Also I will add that since I only come here once a year, I think they have definitely stepped up their game and improved their food quality since the earlier days. As a sushi fanatic I have frequented over 15 sushi bars, and Mene Sushi is the best. Mene actualy translates to peak of the mountain, and this place is definately that. This place is bumpin' at lunch time and dinner, at times they have five sushi chefs cranking out the rolls. They offer the standard issue sushi menu, but they also have a huge list of over-the-top americanized rolls. These include Sunday Morning roll: salmon and cream cheese in a tempura'd roll. Mene roll: spicy tuna avocado and tamago wrapped in thinly sliced cucumber (instead of rice and nori paper). My personal fav is the Fire Cracker: Shrimp tempura with spice sauce, and topped with a baked spicy crab salad. The inside is finely decortated in a variety of stained woods, and plenty of seating. They also many have Korean and Japanese dishes for your lame friends that don't like sushi. read more

Best Sushi around Detroit. They have a large selection of sushi. The ambiance isn't the best but its a great place to get casual sushi. It's my favorite place to grab sushi. The prices are pretty reasonable as well. My ownly complaint is that on busy days they're often short staffed or do not have enough help. They're very busy on weekend nights. read more

Love the food here! Lots! When I'm in the area and am craving sushi, this is my go-to place. In my oh-so-humble opinion, they have the best spicy tuna roll I've ever had--anywhere! Seems like the spicy part is a combo of wasabi and perhaps the slightest hint of something sweet rather than a "hot sauce" kind of spicy. Yum-O! Also, not all Japanese restaurants serve bibimbap and it's delicious here. I also love their version of agedashi tofu. The list of yummy food here is long! Also, they always take care of my special food requests. That said, when I call in for take-out, I always get the sense that there's the greatest sushi urgency going on and my phone call usually lasts under 6 seconds. And, even when I eat there, the servers don't linger. They simply move fast here, even if the place is empty. And actually, that's ok w/ me. I always feel well cared for AND the food is scrumptious. read more
