Two friends and I went to this restaurantr for brunch and stayed for almost 2 hours. Our server, Lexi A, was wonderful and very patient, as she waited for us to make up our minds on what to order. While visiting from out of town, we visited Menotomy three times in a one-week period because their food was so good (especially their bread pudding). However, we consistently had POOR service, representing a failure by management of their human resources. On one occasion, we waited over an hour for our meal to come out, with waitstaff and management apologizing for a lack of kitchen staff. Yet, when we asked to proactively order a dessert, just to get it in the queue, the dessert (which included ice cream) came out before the entrees. When we pointed out how bizarre this was, the server quipped back, "well you ordered it, so we brought it!" They were cold and indignant the rest of the evening. At least the dessert was comped, but honestly, the restaurant should have restricted how many tables they sat people for if their kitchen staff could not keep up, or have been upfront about this. The other nights were not much better. While service was faster, our soft drinks were not refilled in a timely manner, and servers did not really do much, in general, to make us feel welcome. We dine out often, and the best restaurants are those where servers help each other out, monitor the tables consistently, and communicate proactively. They also seem happier and get along well -- probably because management fosters a better work environment. On top of that, Menotomy was closed Sunday, July 5, but had not indicated as such on their Google Maps page, so we took an Uber there only to have to go elsewhere... yet we still gave them three more changes. Truly the worst meal ever for my wife (fish and chips and roasted chicken for me) and in all of the many times we have dined there, suffice it to say that when you have to ask for a steak knife to be able to cut the roast chicken and the server anticipated my request with the knife already in hand, there is obviously a problem in the kitchen. We were looking for a family friendly restaurant that would be open late after coming in from a late flight and this place was recommended to us. Service was very friendly the menu has a wide variety ranging from meat, seafood, pizzas and salads. I'd say it's a good place to bring picky eaters. My mom was happy with her burger and side salad. My husband really enjoyed his fish and chips. They kindly cooked green beans plain for my baby when I asked. She didn't really like them but she's still learning how to eat. She did however enjoy chewing on my grilled lemon. I went with the cod cakes, which came with a side of coleslaw and beans. The beans were a little sweet to my taste but good overall. Met friends for dinner on Saturday night and there were some disappointing aspects. Decor is blah. I'd been here on a Sunday low traffic time once and enjoyed it. This time the 4 of us had to wait 20 minutes past our Rez time to be seated. Very crowded, maybe because of Kentucky Derby and Celtics game, there are several TVs. Our table was too small for 4 people. Drinks and appetizer came out quickly but it was 8:50pm before we got our entrees, we'd been seated at 7:20pm. Waitress was very nice and reasonably efficient. By that time we were tired and too hungry. Several food and drink items were unavailable which the waitress didn't know until she went to put our orders in. We were staying at the hotel next door and came over to get a late dinner. The place was busy, but there is lots of seating and we were seated within a few minutes. The interior and ambiance were great, with a large bar area and huge table area. The open kitchen is always fun to watch. Our server was attentive and everything came out in good time. We had the fried pickle appetizer, the beet arugula salad, and chicken fingers with fries. All the food was really good. The pickles tasted either homemade or refrigerator pickles. The coating was maybe a little thick, but crispy. These were chips, served with a fantastic spicy remoulade. My picky daughter didn't love them, but I did. If I was hungrier and not dieting, I would have eaten them all! I loved the beet salad. Yellow and red beet chunks surrounded a fresh bed of arugula and greens with walnut sized perfectly fried goat cheese balls and macadamia nuts. It was dressed with a light balsamic vinaigrette. The dressing wasn't strong or oily and I either could have used a little more or maybe I should have used a dash of salt & pepper. The salad was great though and I really enjoyed it. The chicken fingers were 4 big pieces of crispy breast meat tenders with good fries. My daughter loved these. I love the decor and ambiance of this Tavern! It's a very comfortable and enjoyable venue to enjoy your meal. The menu selections offer a nice variety of appetizers and meals. The food itself is quite delicious with decent portions. My experience with the staff over four or five visits has been exceptional, knowledgeable and professional each time. Parking: There is parking available on the shared lot. I would call it a huge lot, but I've never had a problem findings a spot. The Caesar salad was drenched in dressing--completely overpowered the greens and made it pretty unpleasant to eat. Less is more when it comes to dressing, and this was just way too heavy-handed. I ordered the burger medium rare, but what I got was barely cooked. The center was not just red--it was cold and raw. That's a major issue, both in terms of food safety and quality. The fish and chips were also a letdown. The fish came out in a perfectly uniform triangle shape, which makes it pretty clear it was a frozen product--not fresh, as the menu suggested. The batter was soft and rubbery, and the fish inside was dry and crumbly, not flaky at all. The atmosphere is nice and the staff were friendly, but unfortunately, the kitchen didn't deliver. For the price point and the reputation, I expected a lot more. read more

From the moment I walked in, the experience felt off. The hostess greeted me with, "What do you need?" -- which was not only unwelcoming but kind of baffling. I'm here for a table... and dinner? That set the tone, and sadly, things didn't really improve. Our food took quite a while to come out, and in the meantime, my water sat empty for most of the meal. When the food finally arrived, both the salads and entrees had such small portions of protein that it felt like a joke -- especially for the price. I really wanted to enjoy this meal and hoped to make Menotomy a regular spot again, but this experience made me second-guess that. Not sure I'll be back anytime soon. read more

Absolutely terrible service tonight. Sat at the bar with my partner. Started fine. Ordered a couple of well made drinks from a pleasant bartender. (The extremely overpriced special for the night was tasty but $43 for hangar steak and a couple potatoes and carrots?! If that price had been listed, we would have laughed). But that was it. No one asked us how our meals were. If we wanted a second drink. If we wanted water. No one came back at all. Multiple bartenders and not one checked on us. None even caught our stares. We tried several times to waive down our bartender to get a check. Then more than 20 minutes elapsed before we could waive her down again to pay. We've never had to work so hard to be ignored and unserved. On our way out, we let the hostess know we were quite upset. Were we offered a manager? No. She offered to jot our names on a slip of paper to tell the owner we were unhappy. Was it a packed house? No one was waiting for a table. Was it all new staff? They seemed to know the drinks without looking. What a crappy experience for a local restaurant. No service at all and ripped off by the specials. I will never give them another penny. read more

The 3 star review is based on the limited menu selections available to the customer. Even after adding in a couple of specials and you're still very limited. Our waiter was awesome and very helpful. Attitude was great and service was good from him. He was quite busy and still found time to be personable with the guests. A few other items that I will point out that you should keep in mind before visiting: - The hostesses seemed more interested in speaking to themselves than the guests. This place was pretty damn good. I honestly wasn't expecting much. For some reason, I don't know why. We were three people and we're seated today promptly. That kind of scared me at 6:30 PM on a Saturday. But, I figured I'd still give it a chance. We were seated in a nice table, near the kitchen which is an open concept. I love watching people cook like that. So that was a plus for me. Our waiter was stellar. I wish I knew what his name was because he was awesome but he had this great deep voice meant for television or radio. we ended up having the fried pickles, the fried homemade potato chips. Both were really good. The pickles weren't dill, they were half sour and I liked that. I had a burger,My cohorts in crime had the fish and chips, which was massive, and the pulled pork sandwich. Both were able portions and looked really yummy. My burger? Done to perfection and super juicy. Everything on it was great, I have to be honest though, the tomato jam? I could've used a little bit more. And I really liked the option of sweet potato fries as well. Downside? I don't like the fact that I had to order the side and it didn't automatically come with it. It makes the price kind of deceiving. And the other? The ladies bathroom was a mess. What a lovely little tavern! My wife, daughter, and I had the perfect "welcome to Boston" dinner here this evening. The Lobster Cod chowder and New England cod cakes were especially delicious, and our almost 2 year old daughter loved her pizza. The hostess and our server Megan were both incredibly sweet to her and gave her a coloring sheet and crackers to snack on, which we really appreciated.
