We've been going to The Wellington since the day they opened, and it remains one of Belmont's standout restaurants (yes, even alongside Il Casale). The food has always been good, but lately it's been even better. Some of my go‑tos: the mussels, tuna poke, burgers, salads, salmon, and the rotolo. But the true star of the menu is the chicken--whether it's the piri piri or the fried, they absolutely nail it every time. They also make excellent cocktails, and the service is consistently solid. Had an amazing dinner at The Wellington. Had a nice little date night and it was a special night. From our service to the food, A+ night. Started with water and drinks and had delicious food. Carrie our server helped out on choosing some meals. We decided on the shrimp & grits and the salmon. Everything was so good. Since we were indulging, we had to get dessert. Our server gave us some great recommendations and we ended up getting the baked Alaska. First time getting it, won't be my last! Our server Carrie was the best. Can anybody tell me why a small portion of french fries (not even using truffle or rosemary) should cost $9.00? I asked to add an order of french fries to my order and 1/surprised as to how small a portion came out but then when I looked at the final bill, I was completely appalled that there was a $9.00 charge for them. Ok- I get it food prices, labor costs have gone up but $9. for french fries? Come on, really? BTW- rest of dinner was fine as usual. The Wellington is a solid eclectic place for bite. I'm not sure where they source their Mussels but as an appetizer, they are always plump and tasty. The shrimp and grits are rich creamy with a perfect amount of spice to balance it all out. Fried chicken is both juicy and crispy, kinda of wish there was a dark meat option there though. And finally their tres leches cake is arguably the best around. The one thing that is kinda odd is when they serve the table bread, each diner get's exactly one small morsel. This is my second trip (the last one being a few years ago), again for Sunday brunch. Lovely room and bar, Sunday brunch brings you live music in the form of jazz. Service good, food mixed. I met two friends and we sat in a comfortable booth near the trio. The music was pleasant, not really jazz but more jazz-ish renditions of some popular tunes. My friends had a chardonnay and a sauvignon blanc to start; I was in the mood for a cocktail and went with a citrus-y concoction that alas is no longer on the online menu and I've forgotten the name. It was tasty! The menu is small and a mix of brunch and lunch items. My friends had the egg white omelette and the Caesar salad (pictured) which they found satisfactory. I was not so happy with my Eggs Benedict (also pictured); the English Muffin was tough to knife through and the poached eggs tiny. The taste was there but my enjoyment was not. The roasted potatoes that came with were flavorful. I will go back if it's the most convenient meeting place but won't rush back for brunch. It's in the heart of Belmont Center, which is charming, with a bookstore and a few other interesting shops open on a Sunday. I wanted to write a review to share my experience, because I had a reservation here and almost canceled it after reading the other reviews. I ended up keeping the reservation and I'm glad I did because we had a fantastic dinner! Service was excellent; the waitstaff was friendly and attentive, refilling our water and answering our questions about the menu. Loved the complementary amuse-bouche popovers and butter. My friends and I split the appetizer of Crispy Brussel Sprouts with pomegranate and feta - the Brussel sprouts were delicious and I love the bright pops of flavor from the pomegranates. I ordered the Tuna Poke bowl for my entree and it was delicious and a very hearty portion - plentiful ahi tuna, delicious rice, and lovely touches of avocado, wasabi ginger soy, and macadamia nut. I saw a lot of other reviews mentioned the pricing so I wanted to share my perspective. I think the pricing is transparent, particularly given recent inflation. There are a lot of restaurants that slip in various fees (a bread plate fee here, a kitchen gratuity fee there, for example) - I found The Wellington very straightforward between the complimentary popovers and zero "hidden" fees. Our girls night out dinner ended up being really reasonable and the food was solid. I loved the ambiance here! Great band I enjoyed listening too but not so loud I couldn't easily chat with my friends. The waitstaff checked in on us but never rushed us. We had such a great time that we ended up having a truly leisurely, relaxing dinner. While I typically like to try new restaurants in Boston and Cambridge, I'd love to come back here for brunch or dinner and live music because the ambience is lovely and the food is great! read more

First get the "meh" out of the way - the ambiance we "meh" - it can't decide if its a nice restaurant or a neighborhood bar. Some decor says "fancy" and some says "have a beer". Beyond that - service was excellent, wait on food was totally reasonable, not too short and not too long. Drinks were tasty. The Mushroom Rotolo was fantastic - literally was scrapping the plate. Very very good. My wife said the steak tips were really good, she was just bummed that all the veggies were squash, etc, so might be nice to discuss what veggies come with the food. The sticky toffee pudding for desert was okay - I thought it was middling, but my daughter had some and came back for more so YMMV. I like that the menu was somewhat limited - not the pressure you often get that you are making the wrong choice. Also I wanted to note they DID NOT add a 20% gratuity before I added mine - I thought I had missed it and the manager was fantastic about emailing me my receipt when I pinged them in email, so I could confirm that I didn't just miss it. Overall a good experience, didn't knock my socks off, but I would absolutely go back. Seriously get the Rotolo......if everything was as good as that it would be 5/5 and jump to great. read more

My husband and I went here last night to celebrate my birthday. it was my third time here, my husband's first. The service was perfect, attentive without being intrusive. We started with the crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer, interesting and tasty with pomegranate seeds and feta. For our entrees, we both had the special, scallops with risotto. The scallops were good but the risotto was lacking in flavor/it needed something to liven up the taste. Overall, I would rate the experience as very good, it's a nice dining room and the friendly, attentive service was excellent. read more

A decent place to have a meal with a nice ambiance but ultimately lacking in flavor and much too ordinary a concept. Also mistakes on the menu whereby items on menu were not present in dish, and items in dish not listed on menu. The burrata appetizer is an example: the cheese itself was fresh and delicious with a nice rougher outer layer balanced by the softer inner layer. The preserved meat salami was great as were the figs and the berry jam. But the menu mentioned beets and there were none provided. We checked w the waiter and he said that the recipe changed and so wasn't included! If I were them would have reduced the price or provided some beets on the side. The Caesar salad was good but the lettuce and flavoring was nothing special. The parmesan chips were a nice touch as was the pumpernickel croutons. There needed to be more flavoring on the sauce. The shrimp and grits was good. The grits were rich and creamy and the shrimp was spongy with a nice bite to it [though they could be meatier]. Generally a good dish. The Mahi Mahi could have been more flavorful and a tad less well-done. The coconut broth was gentle and delicate, and the tomatoes were a nice addition. The ginger however was way strong and there needed to be fewer strands of ginger or the ginger strands needed to be thinner. They also need to be cited on the menu! The service was excellent and helpful. The pricing was probably more than I think the meal is worth though that's true for a lot of restaurants in an era of high inflation. Ordered Thanksgiving takeout meal. Supposed to be ready Wednesday at 5. When I arrive they said it would be ready in a few minutes. After 15 minutes they checked and said order was for Thanksgiving day at 5 pm. Said there was nothing they could do other than cancel order. My friend who placed order later text me receipt confirming Wednesday pickup. Manager never came over and never apologized. Never going back. read more

The Wellington serves good food and better drinks but any diner needs to be aware of their charging and tipping policy. 1) Firstly, the prices of all dishes are inflated by around 20% on average. 2) The restaurant adds a 4% Kitchen Staff charge. (this becomes 5% when you consider the next charge). 3) The restaurant adds a 20% tip into the bill. I enquired what this was and my server was a little salty about my question. I then requested that these charges be removed and I be presented with a clean bill that provided ample space for me to decide on my own tip. Wasn't well received but they did it. I live locally and will not be going to The Wellington again. They have created an intimidatory environment that forces the customer to either accept this policy OR to argue for fair treatment. UPDATE // I have received word from quite a few folks that they also do not visit The Wellington anymore for exactly this reason. read more

The place looks upscale, but the flavor was a bit underwhelming. We tried their tuna bowl and it was good, oysters were delicious. But the main courses we had were missing something. Calling our third (and last) visit to the Wellington a crushing disappointment would be a gross understatement. We chose the neighborhood restaurant for a rare date night and we were prepared to spend a leisurely evening on the patio. Half an hour after we were seated, we were still waiting to be offered a beverage. Eventually, our food and beverage order was taken and we were told a couple of times that was everything was "on its way". An hour passed by, and our table still had no water, let alone the beverages we ordered (picture below). We finally decided to tell the hostess that we were ready to leave, at which point we were offered the opportunity to speak with the manager. The manager was apologetic and tried to make amends. Unfortunately, not even offering the lowest price item as a complimentary dish made up for the disappointing experience. We have frequented Dante's sister restaurant il Casale a few times a year since they first opened, and we are baffled at how differently the two locations operate even they are only a few steps apart. read more

I have been twice now. I agree about the fried chicken it was not that great. It was a bit dry and over cooked for $28 with just a small cucumber salad. I should have returned it but the waitress was not around and did not want to hold up the others in my party. I will say the mussels appetizer is very good. We were meeting friends for our first visit here and we got there early and sat at the bar for a drink. First impressions, very beautiful atmosphere, friendly bartender, high ceilings so not too loud. Drinks were great! Plenty of parking behind the building. The menu online looked promising, but I've learned to never doubt Yelpers and their concerns are real. Once we sat at our table, our server was very nice, but sort of scattered and I can see where others had an issue with service. We had some apps - french onion soup, a cup of poke, and hummus and they were good. For dinners we had the fried chicken, salmon, mushroom rollatini and something else. The dinners were pretty forgettable. Two had dessert and one had coffee. Again, pretty nondescript. The bill came to $400. I have no issue spending that much on a great meal. What a great spot in downtown Belmont! My husband and I had a lovely dinner here - restaurant had an awesome atmosphere. There were TVs, an awesome bar, and some great music playing. The service was great - lots of people coming over to check on us. We got the tuna poke app, the cauliflower steak, steak tips, and the lemon olive oil cake! The tuna poke was a little pricey given the portion and felt more like an entree style than an app (would've preferred a tuna tartare with chips or another presentation that felt more shareable). Both entrees were amazing - we absolutely loved them!! The dessert was also delicious - so light and not too sweet. The absolute highlight for me were the gluten free cheese breads with orange poppyseed butter - still thinking about them!!!! read more

I sat at the bar just before opening so no one was in the restaurant except a large party in a private room. Matt the bartender was great. Told him I was a first timer. I ordered an Old Fashion and for dinner the steak tips with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. While waiting I asked about the wine list. He admitted that their guests don't really order wine by the bottle. They were more of a beer and cocktail crowd. I saw a couple of good values in Cabernet, so I ordered a bottle of one. The manager, John, told Matt that they sold out and offered my second choice. I ordered it- Game Trail. Delicious. The steak tip dinner was awesome. Overall a nice place to go have a beer or craft cocktail. The owners also own Il Casale across the street and I've been to several times...in fact two nights before. My only tip to John, the manager...I announced I was a first timer, was at the bar before any one else and stayed for 2 hrs to give you a chance to swing by and to introduce yourself to a new face but you didn't. I did everything I could to stand out and I got nothing. I just moved into the area and I spend a lot of money eating out. I saw you chat it up with a few of your regulars but I'd recommend on behalf of your owners to seek out the new faces and make them future regulars! Just my two cents. I'll be back. read more

What a nice reatairant! I really enjoy the food here on Monday night. I came here with my girlfriends to try this new restaurant in Belmont. We tried various dishes including tuna poke bowl, meze platter, lettuce wrap, sweet fried chicken, and $1 oysters for Monday night. The $1 oysters (for Monday) were fresh and meaty. They came with cocktail sauce and a sour sauce that harmonized very wel with the oysters. I will definitely come back for these tasty oysters. Tuna poke bowl and lettuce wrap (with sweet and cumin crispy chicken!) were quite decent. I really liked the green bean sauce that came with the sweet and cumin chicken. The crispy sweetness and the cumin were perfect combination. I would say meze platter was my favorite. The falafel (crispy and warm) and smoked eggplants tasted heavenly. Sweet fried chicken was tasty as expected (I mean it's fried! Cannot go wrong). Lastly, we got Alaska for dessert. The chocolate ice cream inside the shell were smooth and sweet. Double thumbs up for sure! Overall, it is a great restaurant that I wish it was located closer to my place (or any T station). read more

We went here on a Saturday night to check their cocktails and appetizers. We were greeted by the hostess as soon as we entered and were given a table. We looked at the menu and my partner got the pear cocktail and I was still deciding. I asked a question about the wine and the server offered me samples of the white wine and a Malbec. I went for the Malbec. We also got a crab dip for the table. The complementary bread was really good! The crab dip was also very good but it was very rich. I'd give a rating of 4/5 for the dip because, while it was rich and creamy, it was rather a little bland and could have had more flavor. The garlic bread with the dip was really good though. The pear cocktail was really good, but the Malbec was average. This is a good place for a date night, and a good place to catch up with friends. The prices are a little high though. I will eat anywhere with tater tots! I went here with a friend for brunch. It's a really nice atmosphere inside, and we were seated near the front in this little room that was kind of offset from the rest of the restaurant, which was nice and light. I got a Wellington sunrise and my friend got Dante's inferno which is a spicy Bloody Mary. He LOVED it. Mine tasted of pure alcohol and I didn't drink most of it. Otherwise, the rest of the experience was great. Our waiter was attentive. The food was really great. I got the Wellington omelette (with tots of course!). The puffed pastry inside the omelette was a little unusual and I could have done without, but it tasted so good otherwise! My friend got the winn brook burger with bacon and absolutely loved it. We had a fantastic meal here on 7/14/18. We called to see if they accommodate 2 adults and 1 toddler as we did not make a reservation earlier. They said yes and we showed up. We were seated in the private room area, we would have preferred the main dining area, but no big deal. Decor and color scheme was great. The bar area was nice and had TVs. They had pretty good adult and kids menu. To start we go the sea bass crudo. That tasted really good and nice presentation! My tot got the chicken fingers plate, which you can tell was made with real chicken. My husband for the burger (amazing) with foie gras sauce ($6 tasted great but not worth the price tag and not really foie gras flavor). I got the roast chicken in clay pot. That was really tasty. Drinks were great and beer selection as well. My husband got a beer flight. My only complaint is they charge $3.75 for a glass of milk for the tot. You can buy a quart of organic milk for that price. We will definitely go back with some friends, date night or just drinks. read more

It was our first time here. Dinner and drinks were great, however, service was a bit slow on a Saturday night.

I'll start with a positive, food was ok. Overpriced yes, but decent food. Service was bad. Waiter couldn't wait to get rid of us, at 6:30. Limited menu for sure. Maybe with a broader menu and a few lower priced items they would fill the room more than 15%. Glasses, both water and wine sat empty for almost the entire meal. Also the techno music doesn't fit the bill for this place. Open cooking area, you can tell more interested in shutting down than cooking food. Overpriced for sure. Could be a nice place if they tried.x read more
