We came here on a VERY busy day as people were coming in to watch the US play in the World Cup. Luckily they had a table for 2 available and we were able to quickly get seated. To begin with we had a server and another girl who brought the food out. They were all incredibly friendly and attentive. And although it was busy we never felt rushed so they could turn over the table. Service was A+. I did order a Guinness and it was perfectly poured and a perfect temperature. We also shared a craft cocktail from their bar list and it too was delicious - they have a tea great bar and beer selection. We ordered fish and chips and the chicken dinner. Both were fantastic and tasty and perfectly cooked. The fish was huge chunks which I love and the chicken was tender and came with delicious sides. Also the prices in my opinion was super reasonable and lower than I actually anticipated. We did have to park in a neighborhood (their parking lot was full) and it was a couple blocks of a walk but it's a super safe neighborhood and on a nice day the walk was quite enjoyable! First time visit, and came in on a Sunday afternoon with two friends. We arrived around 1:00 and there was one hard-working bartender running the bar, tables and outside (she eventually had two more coworkers 2 hours later, but she was hustling!). I had a delicious burger - cooked just right and juicy - one friend had a salad with steak tips and the other a fried seafood dish. The food came out really quickly which was impressive because I saw just one person in the kitchen! Parking on West Street is easy, and there is also the lot right next door. It was a gorgeous day and we should have sat outside, but were inside since one person wanted to hear the band that is there on Sundays (we did not hear it as they didn't show up, we hope they are OK?). Went the other day for the first time. Cozy little place. We were lucky enough to get stools at the bar. Very nice attentive bartender. The Guinness was an ok pour, a hint bitter but drinkable. My wife ordered the beef stew. She liked it, I thought it was salty. I got the Reuben which came on Texas toast. That was new to me. It actually was just white bread not grilled. The sandwich was untraditional but still good. The fries took the prize. Very crispy and delicious. The kitchen is a bit slow, but it is small and food apparently is made to order. read more

This place is just opened, but off to a good start. Great craft beer menu, including a good poor Guinness on tap. We ordered appetizers and found the calamari was soft and flavorful. The curry chips were plentiful and the sauce had a nice kick to it. I ordered the shepherds pie, which was authentic in the sense of chunks of chunks of carrots, meat, and turnips under a healthy pile of mashed potatoes. The Dooliner Irish Pub opened recently in the former West Street Tavern & Cafe Martin building in the Nonantum section of Newton, just off Watertown St (MA 16). This neighborhood Irish pub has an lowkey inviting cozy atmosphere with the full bar area with seating to the left side and high top tables and booth seating to the right side. The lighting is a bit sim with green painted walls with framed pictures hanging, and flatscreen TVs. The food menu is streamlined offering a few appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, fish & chips, Irish beef stew, shepard's pie, steak tips and salads. The pricing is moderate. The bar offers 10 draft beers, cans/bottles, wine, cocktails and hot alcoholic drinks. After a rough stormy night on the roads, I dropped in at The Dooliner to dry off and get some hot food. I sat myself in a quiet booth in the dining section and the server brought over a menu to look over. I ordered the Irish Beef Stew ($22 plus tax) which was served very hot and tender pieces of Angus beef cubes (some fat & meat), potatoes, carrots, green beans in a hearty broth. The portion was a good size and I finished half the bowl before getting the rest to go. However, I was told they did not have takeout boxes, so I ended up running out to the vehicle and grabbed an extra plastic container to pack up my food. The check with tax and before tip was $23.54. I definitely needed something hot and filling to eat to sort of make my miserable night bearable. I would return again when the weather gets warmer and I'm in a better mood. read more

For entrees, we sampled a bit of everything: the hearty Irish stew, crispy fish and chips, flavorful bangers and mash, and the creamy Mac & Cheese. Every dish exceeded expectations. The drinks were just as impressive as the food. The West Street Martini--a delightful blend of limoncello, citrus vodka, lemon, and simple syrup--was wonderfully refreshing. The Irish Old Fashioned, was a bold and smooth classic. The service was prompt and incredibly friendly, ensuring that our large group was well taken care of. And, of course, the Guinness--the iconic pint was poured to perfection. They even offer the non-alcoholic Guinness Zero. Sad to say, but I'm very disappointed by my dining experience here. I had high expectations as the reviews on Yelp have been so positive. However, every food item we ordered was below mediocre. Fish and chips - their Haddock was so dry. Curry chips - fries were over fried and the curry sauce was okay. Hot honey wings - sauce was good but the chicken was slightly dry and smelled like old chicken. Also, I noticed that we were not greeted to be seated until way after they saw us, while they were very welcoming to other guests. The only saving grace was our waiter who was friendly and checked on us in a timely manner. Lastly, the restaurant had so many mosquitoes (maybe because the door was open), but I got bit so much during my half an hour dinner. They had a better meal than we did. read more

Alan the very cultured & friendly bartender suggested we have a genesis and the Ruben. Daniel the chef made the best Ruben we have ever had! The core beef was very lean and tasty. Not fatty! Flavor town baby! This also the first I have not used ketchup on my fries.....because the fries were frecken amazing. What a great first impression of the Boston area! I don't usually leave reviews but this time is different. We were in town before the holidays from Texas visiting old college friends and we came across this quant Irish bar while looking for somewhere to eat and catch up with our friends. From the moment we walked in we were warmly welcomed by Alan the barman, a friendlier barman you would not meet anywhere, he told us about the brief history of the bar, where it got its name etc. we even jokingly discussed taking him back to Austin with us lol! While the menu here is small, the food here is simple but delicious. My recommendations would be the curry fries, the reuben sandwich and the burger that has no business being as good as it is, one of the best my partner has eaten! Also if you're in the mood then order an Espresso Martini from Alan, easily one of the nicest Espresso Martinis I've had the pleasure of drinking anywhere. In short this is a very nice and well run local bar/restaurant with amazing staff and great food, we hope to visit again in the summer. We ordered Irish Nachos for the table. The serving was large, and it was gone too quickly. I had the grilled cheese and onion, absolutely delicious and still had a half sandwich to bring home.
