Went in looking for a haircut and they had two empty chairs to tell me they had an opening in 30 minutes which was fine. Asking how much they charge since it's not posted anywhere and she sidestepped my question for the second time. She asked if I would like to book the 12:45 time slot, but I asked how much for a haircut for the second time. $65 base price for a men's haircut. This is a private business and they can charge whatever prices they want but that's two or three times the price for a men's haircuts. Now I have an idea what women go through when they paid $95 or $120 for a haircut. It still makes no sense to charge that much for a basic men's haircut. Normally I get a high and tight with two on the sides, maybe 15 to 20 minutes to cut and we are done. I thought she was joking or thought I wanted, wash, coloring, tweezing and beard trim but nope. $65 for a basic men's haircut and that's ridiculously overpriced, but people can charge whatever they want. If I've been paying $25 plus a $5 tip for a cut for over a decade who is thinking no I want to pay $65 and it's a good price? I won't be back but if you want to splurge on a haircut for double or triple market rate come here and get it cut. read more

They look like just do white people cuts, I was asking for hair cuts and told me they do just appointments and the next one it will be about 2 weeks, something that is not real, because the night before going there, looking for appointments by morning they just had many left in afternoon and nexts days in the week. Also, even worse, they sent me to Jonnhys cuts recommended to have it there, and this people don't do professional cuts, they can't do any cuts fashioned or trimming your beard. read more

He goes through your whole look with you which at least, helps you feel reassured that he knows exactly what he is doing. Its a relaxing atmosphere and he serves coffee or water or sometimes has a particularly great tea he has picked up from his travels down in Nicaragua. Con. Parking. This isn't in a shopping mall or off a dirt road, so plan your arrival time with street parking included. Experience. I purchased the Tailored Beard, which was listed as a 75 minute (aka, 1 hour and 15 minutes), this included no less than 3 hot towel treatments, a straight razor shave, electric and hand sheared trimming (and shaping), along with a blow dry and comb of your beard prior to departure. I received my care from the man himself, who reviewed shapes and lengths before proceeding. At the end of the visit, the $100 shave required payment with no mention of gratuity, which I provided voluntarily. So no need to worry about being pressured into paying a gratuity, but if you like the work, then obviously reward them with some extra. Overall, I arrived nervous over the cost but walked out feeling like I got what I paid for. Your individual experiences will vary depending on the shape, length, and needs. I cannot give a high enough rating to this place. Valentine is one of the most intelligent and kind people I've ever met. He is genuinely one of the most inspiring individuals I've spoken with. I called him to schedule an appointment for my husband's brother before his wedding, and I've never been treated with such respect and listened to so respectfully. SCHEDULE WAY IN ADVANCE, because this place is extremely popular (with good reason). Somehow he fit us in, and the appointment was today. My brother-in-law just called me and said it was the most incredible experience of his life. He literally said he has never met someone who is so talented at their trade and still so humble and easy to talk to. WOW. I was throughly impressed with this place. Valentine is amazing ! I have a crush on this man, he was so sweet! I took my boyfriend here for one of his birthday gifts. I picked a "Seattle Shave" for him, which is basically a straight edge razor shave and facial. He absolutely was floored at how pampered he was, and I will admit I was a little jealous! After his treatment, Valentine came over to me and let me know how it went. We both agreed he should grow his beard out and come back for monthly touch ups. Martin, as usual, is low-key, personable and attentive. He's also right on the money. Without a single second thought, he knows the cut that I like (it's been months since I've been in), needs no reminders and doesn't miss a beat. He checks his work and then double checks it. Yeah, I was impressed when I went there. At first, I was a bit guarded about paying 30 dollars for a hair cut. But, I knew that what I wanted to achieve with the particular style wasn't going to happen at supercuts or the like, which is where I always went. For a typical dude, with a simple cut, it's not that hard to do. Having said that, I've had numerous people who managed to fuck up the word simple. With that being said...... I let the cost issue go and just went with the flow. I got there and was greeted very nicely. I was asked to have a seat and they would be right with me. They brought me some water and a glass. What? NICE. Just chillin to the music and the nice vibe of energy. Then I get my hair cut by Breck who was nice and pleasant. They all take pride in their work. After getting my hair cut, I was escorted back to get my hair washed and massaged by this nice girl, and the massage was awesome. The massage ended and I then had my hair styled. I left a very happy customer. If you want your hair done right and you are rather meticulous and care about your hairs appearance, then I would highly recommend it. If you are tolerant of a decent cut that will recover in a few weeks, then you may just want to stick with Supercuts. Hopefully, you'll only new a FEW weeks to let the scalping grow out. :) read more

I shave my head and haven't had a hair cut in over 20 years, so when I decided to grow a beard out and it needed trimming, I knew I wanted a true salon/barber experience and Valentine's was a jackpot! Great decor and vibe with the coolest vintage barber chairs that Valentino refurbished himself. This being my first beard trim ever Valentino consulted me with options which was very helpful considering his knowledge and expertise. Once we decided on a style he went to work like a true craftsman, but it also felt like I was working with an artist. He is a really talented barber and I felt lucky to have found him. Then to top it off he offered a beard conditioning...it was out of this world! I'd never had a treatment like that and it was incredible, like a massage for my face and the softest beard I'd ever felt. I will be going back. read more

Before going to Valentine's, the last truly great haircut I received happened ten years ago at a tiny, trashy, smelly little salon inside a mall department store named "Younkers" in Iowa City, Iowa. There, a young, cute rocker-chick named Kristen would take an hour to lovingly work on my head and we developed the kind of stylist-client rapport I never thought I'd find again. There were a lot of reasons to move away from Iowa City, but Kristen at Younkers' salon and the spicy gnocchi at Givanni's are two things I miss about the place. I've lived in Seattle for 5 years, now. I haven't tried a LOT of places for a haircut, because, frankly, I don't have the time. So, I just lowered my expectations and just hoped I'd magically stumble upon another lucky find like Kristen one of these days. After three cuts now from Roderick at Valentine's, I have to say he's making a definite run for Kristen-like stature in my pantheon of hair stylists. Roderick listens, he takes the time to learn your hair and your head and, importantly, how they best fit together. The cuts not only look good when you walk out the door but also a month later. I also appreciate the atmosphere -- masculine, but not in a obnoxious way. It's not overdone or pretentious; it's welcoming and comfortable. It would be really easy to overdue the whole "men's clubroom" aesthetic, or veer too far into either a "meathead" or "metrosexual" vibe, but they nailed it spot on. I also appreciate that they wash your hair AFTER the cut so you're not shaking off microhairs all day. It's clear that they care about delivering great professional service and getting to know the client. I wish I had found this place when I first moved to Seattle. read more

I arrived and was promptly greeted and found the environment relaxing and enjoyed a few Andes mints while I read a book full of old Seattle pics turning pages to classic jazz music. Last Saturday I walked into Valentine's without an appointment and asked if they could fit me in for a haircut before a special event I had that night. Surprise! They were actually _delighted_ to help me out and the nice gal behind the counter took my coat and bag, gave me a cold cup of water to drink, and sat me down in a plush chair to chill-in while waiting. Jamie was my stylist. She sat me down in her chair, asked me several questions about what I wanted done and proceeded to give me one of the best haircuts I've had in a long time. Yea, this place pretty much rocks...the price to care to awesomeness ratio is out of this world. Basically for $35 you get an amazing haircut where they actually take their time. Plus a wash. I had Emily MacSomething (I forget her last name) cut my hair and she was pretty awesome. She had only cut my hair once a few months before but completely remembered me and the way she cut my hair last time. Crazy Rain Man stuff yo! Plus she was uber careful and attentive. The only reason I don't give this place 6 stars is because I hate having to make small talk. I think they should hand out scripts for you to read with your hair cutter as I find it quite stressful to think of things to talk about. For a while I got my hair cut at a training salon thinking the price was right-- it turns out I was lucky enough to get paired up with a decent stylist, and when she graduated, I was subjected to some of the worst haircut experiences ever. Terrible haircuts, the last time taking almost three hours (no joke, that was understandably the LAST straw). So I decided to find a professional. Pleasantly greeted upon entry and promptly served a San Pellegrino while I waited all of, oh, five minutes, I was treated to a great haircut by one of the barbers (barberellas?) made all the more perfect by the critical eye of Valentine himself, whose attention to detail and care for the satisfaction of his customers are second to none. I mean, I've tried other so-called men's salons--and have had mixed experiences--but one of the complaints I've had about them is that they just seem to try too damn hard to be something, but lack the soul to really pull it off. Found this place after searching on my bf's behalf for "a place that does man hair." Apparently he was afraid of going to a girly hair salon and coming out like Dorothy Hamill. Impressive, classy interior with big "boyfriend" waiting room chairs (or "girffriend" chairs in this case). Only 1-2 people were being served at any given time, so the environment was extremely relaxed. I was surprised how full-service it was for the price; maybe just because they have separate little rooms for the haircut, washtub, and style. "Seattle F" wasn't man enough to put his real name to stand by his statement, most likely because his review is FILLED WITH LIES. Don't believe me? Check out his pants, they're probably on fire. I've never seen a single faux hawk in that store (unless they came in with one), and Valentine assured me personally that he hasn't given faux hawks since he can remember and tries to talk people out of them unless it's a child. In other news, always receive the utmost level of professionalism and respect from the crew to a level unmatched. And if the atmosphere's not enough to warm my innards, they fill me with complimentary tea or coffee! It's not by accident that this place needs to be booked a couple days in advance due to the level of loyal customers. After my haircut (which I thought couldn't get any better, thanks Rebecca!) Valentine comes in for quality control to "make sure I leave with a perfect haircut". Can't argue with perfection, especially if they make you look better than you actually do ;)! So I had to abandon my very reliable Solé and Jenney Cooper in Emeryville, CA and move to Seattle. I found out about Valentine's while still in the SF Bay area even before I became a bonafide Seattle-ite, and have been going to Martin (who Valentine recommended that I go to based on the kind of hair I had) every three weeks since then. I still think Jenney is awesome, but Martin knows what to do with my hair like no other. Also the conversation in there is extremely interesting and the espresso drinks on arrival are an added plus. During my last haircut the conversation was centered around whether active boxers should be allowed to own boxing production companies, a la de la Hoya and the potential conflict of interest; and whether the dropping gas prices would lull people into driving ecologically unsound (and painfully large and slow) vehicles again because of he bling factor. Today was my first time visiting Valentine's. I sat down with Sydney. I liked the idea of a men's barbershop and the atmosphere and customer service of Valentine's sealed the deal. My haircut was by no means complicated, simply trim up the sides as I'm trying to grow out the top of my hair, yet Sydney still spent an hour with me, giving me the best haircut I've ever had. When Sydney was done, Valentine came over and made a few specific adjustments himself. The owner himself clearly cared that each and every customer gets the best damn haircut they can give. They are a master of their craft! Highly recommended, I will be coming back frequently! read more

Going to Valentine was one of the most enjoyable experiences I've ever had. I booked manicures and cut/styles for my brother and I for a wedding. The only thing even remotely resembling a problem was that I expected it would only be maybe 2 hours for both of us, but they spend so much time and attention to detail here that it was closer to 3.5. It made the rest of the day a little rushed, but was well worth it. I was never given a time that it would take, so it was just my own bad assumption. Know that coming here means that Valentine will spend as much time as it takes to make you look perfect. The manicures were fantastic. I've had plenty of quick/crappy manicures and pedicures before. As a man, you aren't getting them colored so a lot of times it kind of feels like "what the hell am I paying you for?" Not here. It was about an hour or so of hand worship. Great massaging, great nail care, excellent all around. I had basically no idea what I wanted for my hair. I've never really liked it before, and I wanted Valentine's opinion on what to do. He spend probably 15 or 20 minutes with me and another woman that was working just to figure out what would be the best possible look. And it was. After he painstakingly snipped and place what felt like every single hair on my head, I looked better than I ever have before. It's expensive, but really for the amount of time, care and skill that it comes with you do not walk away feeling like it was. It's worth every penny, and honestly I felt like for 3 hours worth of work from 2 people, $200 was actually quite cheap. The person doing my bride's hair was something like $100/hr, and was no more of a skilled professional than Valentine. My only regret is that I moved from Seattle and was only in town for the wedding. I would desperately like to come back more often. read more
