I ordered takeout sushi from Nano every Sunday for 2.5 years when I lived walking distance from it. My favorite Chicago tradition! First off, adorable inside! Great area of tables, clean, nice decor, without being too small or overcrowded feeling. Second, service is tops. Third, they have an awesome menu. At the time I lived there I only liked veggie sushi (I've since learned I was missing out and liked cooked rolls too), and their selection of veggie options made me so happy. Normally there is like 2-3 basic rolls like sweet potato or asparagus or avocado, but most places don't have any veggie based rolls on their special roll section. Nano did, and still does! The services was great! We were the only people there on a Saturday night, which was a shame but also a benefit. We got to sit outside in the patio area. It was clearly a cheaper set up, but it was cute and intimate for us. The waitress was very friendly and helped us pick food we were unsure about. She was on top of her game and brought us a smaller bowl when she was I was letting my girlfriend have a taste of my ramen. The food was pretty good as well. The calamari was nice and not too heavy or overly deep fried tasting. The chicken karaage was nice and crispy and juicy. My girlfriend liked her Nano Maki sushi. I had the Shoyu Ramen which was good as well. I thought the pork had a little bit of a Smokey/grill taste, which wasn't a bad thing. The price was also pretty affordable. It ended up being about $60 for two, which in that area and for that amount of food, felt pretty reasonable. We'll be back! read more

Got some pretty great sushi from this place on Broadway. It's tiny inside, and makes sense they limit dining in. Nano has mostly things for takeout. Especially at lunch. The prices for the fancier rolls can get expensive but are still pretty good it seems. Came to get a few things to go. It's only open for takeout at lunch. They open the inside for dinner though. Only a few tables are inside. Really cramped so not sure I would even want to. It's about $14 for the specialty rolls. Some of these are vegan. One is the Black Forest Maki. This is asparagus, avocado, cucumber, oshinko, and spinach wrapped in fried tofu. Good big roll filled with lots of vegetables and fresh. This was a pretty impressive one and was worth the kind of high price. Has lots of great sushi to choose from. It's only open for takeout most times. There's a few of the specialty rolls that are okay for vegans and vegetarians. read more

I have been talking about this places for days after I went. 1st off, I've lived in the area for years and never ever thought to stop in. It's truly a hidden gem. Place is BYOB, which I will note for next time. All the sushi and apps were delicious. I don't think I've ever had crab ragoon that's so delicious, fresh, and flaky. Such an adventure. While this wasn't my most favorite place for Ramen, it definitely hit the spot on a snowy night. By the way, can we talk about the deep fried rolls. Delicious. My wife and I have been coming here for years -- more when they were on Broadway but we still make an effort to visit them on Western. It is hands down the best ramen in the city. I love having a sushi place within walking distance in the neighborhood. My husband and I have frequented Nano Sushi well before restaurants were shutdown and the staff always treated us nicely. We were always able to score a table without having to wait too long. They have a ton of tables that could easily accommodate any sized group. My favorite part about Nano's is that they are BYOB and the maki rolls are reasonably priced. Be careful because they definitely add up if you don't watch yourself but oh so worth it. Nano's is still go to whenever my husband and I are craving sushi. Nano's has always been consistent with their rolls and other menu items. I don't think I can say that I have ever had a bad meal from Nano's. They also prepare the food so quickly that you won't be hungry for too long. I enjoyed the special veggie sushis at Nano. The two vegan sushis are unique and good. If I could rate this alone, I'd give it four or five stars. The atmosphere was that of a techno cocktail lounge, with the type of music that sounds the same throughout your meal (with the same tempo and bass drum). Red seats and tabletops are framed by dark walls and a Japanese skyline. I didn't care much for any of it. The other, plainer sushis (with one ingredient) were average, neither good nor bad as a whole. Of those, the shiitake was the best. Reviewing for take-out during COVID-19. We ordered directly from the restaurant via phone. We got a mix of nigiri, maki, salmon crispy appetizer and the steak teriyaki entree. Our order was not fully ready when we arrived, but we maintained distance and received it in a short time. We were not able to pay via phone and card was processed on site. Bring your own pen or wear gloves to sign the receipt if you need to. Everything was tasty and quality has not been compromised. It was super fun to eat when we got home. We used to dine in the establishment about once a week in the past. (I mentioned in my previous review about not trying the ramen. This is a review SOLELY ON THEIR NIGIRI CARRYOUT. The review on their other sushi and dine in experience is in my other review and I stand by that. So the nigiri is perfectly acceptable. The fish is decent quality, not super high quality, but a cut above AYCE, which is good because you do not want to actually taste the fish when you go to AYCE sushi. The portions are decent... they can always be more generous, but it is not simple to fit the entire piece in your mouth which makes the fish a sizeable cut. The rice is tasty and they try to not give you too much. I appreciate the notion to let the fish shine through, but I could use a tad more rice. I got shrimp, eel, tuna, and roe. The only thing that I think they could have done better was the eel because the cut was weird and they added a bit too much eel sauce. HOWEVER, you are paying $2-3 for sizeable pieces of fish. I'd recommend probably 8 pieces. The selection isn't massive, but its solid and the chefs take pride in their cuts. Most of all the actual fish is tasty. In addition their carryout during COVID is quick and snappy. The do offer the option to eat inside... but don't be stupid. Enjoy! read more

Very disappointed. The rolls were much small than I'm used to and really didn't have much flavor. Note, you shouldn't pack spicy rolls with non-spicy rolls. 4 stars is for shio ramen. It's a clear, delicious broth. Light and tasty if you wanna pass on fatty tonkotsu broth. It came with egg noodles, charsiu, scallions and bamboo shoots. I usually don't like the taste of bamboo shoots, but their menma here tasted juicy and savory. I would add extra menma next time I eat or order delivery here. Stay away from age dashi tofu. It's just 3 big blocks of fried, soft tofu with a bland dipping sauce on the side. I had agedashi tofu from other restaurants and they definitely elevated this simple dish. Unfortunately, it wasn't at Nano. It was a disappointment. Service was all right. Attentive. I'm not too fond of the ambience of the restaurant. It just has some outdated feel to it. I came here on a Saturday night for dinner. I was seated right away. The waiter and everyone around me was super friendly. Please remember this place is BYOB. However, a local adult beverage place is just around the corner so even if you end up like me asking for a drink it's easy to get one. I ordered potstickers, which were not my favorite. There's not a lot of sushi restaurants in this general area of Lakeview. The decor was what drew me in the first time around. The fun red, circular booth chairs and the Art Deco vibe.. must have something good right? The staff is very hospitable and sweet. They don't overwhelm you or bombard you with options. The sushi menu is quite extensive. There's something for everybody. On a side note, I've tried to substitute once and was told no. Stick to the menu and it's ingredients. The chef is a little heavy on the spicy mayo on specialty items. If you don't like spicy mayo... probably stray away from those. My vegetarian friend also had options which was a plus. She really enjoyed the sweet potato roll. My other favorites are their spicy scallop, New Mexico, and Santa Fe. I like spice, can you tell? Their ramen is pretty decent. The broth is a bit rich for my taste but very comforting nonetheless on a cold winter day. They also have specials for take out. When you hit a certain $ amount, you receive freebies! I got delivery from Nano Sushi recently and it was just alright. Their crab rangoon is not the usual type with imitation crab & cream cheese but also a bunch of crunchy celery & pepper. Some people may love this and I didn't mind the kick the pepper gave these but so much celery? Pass. I tried the Crispy Cream Roll and for $13, not worth it. I liked it but you only get 6 pieces which seems a bit skimpy for a signature roll. Inside the roll was smoked salmon, cream cheese, scallions, a very tiny bit of masago, avocado all deep fried! Then on top is spicy mayo & unagi sauce. drizzled with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. Their shiitake mushroom roll was overriced but tasty for $5. And the sweet potato roll for $7 was fairly standard and not the best of its kind but it got the job done. All in all, everything I had was alright but with so many sushi places in the city, I sadly won't be back for 'just alright' sushi. read more

Originally I wanted to try the ramen but ended up ordering the shrimp tempura & salmon teriyaki. The shrimp were good but the salmon was wonderful. It wasn't so much the salmon as it was the rice. Best rice ever! Couldn't stop eating even though I wanted to. HOWEVER, the service. Ugh. We watched ad our food sat, and, sat and sat on the counter until server who stood by...contemplating the wonder that is himself (?) deigned to bring us our meal. My dining partner wasn't thrilled with the decor & music which gave him a strip club vibe, but it didn't bother me. That being said, it was one of the most intimate ramen establishments I'd been in.
