I have been going to Menz since 1980. I get it that prices go up and maybe the quantity goes down. BUT NEVER should the quality go down. The Cream of Asparagus watered down Blackened Chicken nothing more than chicken with a lot of seasoning The restaurant decorated in the ambiance of Halloween The service was great as always

    That's a real bird inside!!

5/19/24. Go for the interesting decor alone! Friends recommended Menz as a really unique dining experience. The restaurant is filled with antiques and ghosts of the past. Very interesting surroundings. When you go, be sure to mosey around and look at the interesting items that abound. I learned that most were donated. I loved the authentic stained glass windows- gorgeous. I ordered the coconut shrimp for 29.99. There were five huge butterflied shrimp served with delicious plumb sauce. The side I chose was macaroni and cheese. The macaroni was over cooked and mushy and it didn't have much flavor. I was very happy with the shrimp. Before the entree I had a salad- it was fresh and generous. Each entree cones with 2 sides and a salad is considered a side. Bobby Jo was our server. She was delightful and attentive. It is likely I would go back if I were in the area. Luckily we went before the crazy seasonal rush so no trouble getting a table. Call for reservations- they are not on Open Table. Our meal came with blueberry muffins in a basket and sesame seed bread. Yummy!

    Happy friendly bar. Locals.

Oct 1, 2023 - Best meal we've had in a while! Came upon Menz Restaurant & Bar during our RV camping weekend. The crab soup was fabulous, bursting with flavor! We decided to just eat dinner at the bar area. Everyone was so nice & friendly. It was like a dinner party! For dinner we had crab stuffed shrimp, chicken franchaise, steamed clam appetizer. All fabulous, cooked perfectly. Baked potato with dinner was fresh, not hours old! Even the the green beans almondine tasty, perfect, not over cooked. Atmosphere was rustic but tastefully done. Loved it. Live music guitar player/singer. Enjoyed it. We will definitely be back!! 4th Generation family owner was there. We give our dining experience A+. Too bad they will close for the winter until Easter.

Recently returned to Menz's after a long hiatus & not sure why! The Menz experience was absolutely fantastic! Great appetizers - recommend the Fried Jersey Tomatoes! Great Soups - both the French Onion & Crab Chowder are delicious! Everyone in our party of 8 enjoyed their main course! Add in the unique decor & friendly staff & it's the perfect family night out!

I've been here enough times that I think I can go ahead and throw a review out there. The food is a 3.5. It's very pricey for what it is. This time I got the fried shrimp. $29 for 6 fried shrimp, a small amount of fries, and a small amount of cole slaw. The shrimp was a little overcooked. To me that isn't a $30 plate. The menu also says one refill on sodas. BUT the Halloween dining experience is a 10/10. So much fun! Definitely worth the experience. The lobby has a really nice selection of candy and merchandise at reasonable prices. The restaurant is an explosion of Halloween decor. You need to get a reservation early for the Halloween dining. It books up fast! One negative on the Halloween dining is the seating area is tight!! We had 4 at a very small booth that we just fit into. It felt more appropriate for 2 people than 4 people.

Came in Memorial Day weekend and there were a lot of drink specials and food specials which was a plus. Food was hot fresh and way better than the place called Jake's that used to be here. Very happy we came in and gave it another try now that it is called something else. If you are in this area- definitely come and check it out.

She was attentive and friendly. In addition to their regular menu, they had a special valentine's centric menu. This made it difficult to choose because we had also been given recommendations from friends on what to order. We settled on French onion soup (delicious), Caesar salad and the filet special from the valentines menu which was accompanied by the creamiest butteriest smashed potatoes (note the menu said mashed but I consider any mashed that contains the skins of the potatoe a smashed potatoe) and asparagus with a reduction. The food was very good. I can't use the term exceptional until I have made more visits - which we will certainly do. I also treated myself to the chocolate strawberry martini. Delicious ! We also had the chocolate mousse topped with fresh whipped cream and strawberries for desert. It will go on my top 10 desserts I ever ate list for sure. Needless to say that kitchen is pushing out some fantastic food. The bar is putting out quality pours and cocktails. I would also be remiss if I didn't state that they also had a live guitarist singing and he was good - I didn't catch his name though. Can't give them a 5 star until we dine again ... Thanks local tavern for a great experience!

When the chef at the Wagon Wheel arrived at work this afternoon, God averted his gaze. Being…read moreomniscient, he knew what was coming -- but even his omnipotence wasn't enough to prevent the culinary mortal sin that was inflicted upon our unsuspecting party of five this Tuesday afternoon. But wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. Eating at the Wagon Wheel is an experience, insofar as stubbing your toe is an experience, or contracting leprosy is an experience. Not all experiences are made equal, and some you actively hope to repress the memory of. Such was this. Let's start with the food. I ordered the steak and shrimp. I expected a juicy, tender piece of New York strip, cooked rare. Instead, I got an under-seasoned, over-cooked piece of desiccated shoe leather. As for the shrimp, if you bought a $5 slingshot from the boardwalk, you could easily repurpose them as a highly-effective crowd control weapon -- if not for those pesky Geneva Conventions, that is. Others in my party fared no better. My father-in-law received a pile of dry, chewy ribs that were so over-salted, they seemed almost designed to provoke renal failure. My wife got a hamburger that, she said, made her feel like she swallowed the contents of a cement mixer. In many respects, she wishes she did -- it certainly would be, gastronomically speaking, a step up from the Wagon Wheel. My brother-in-law and mother-in-law both ordered the steak -- although they had the presence of mind to avoid the shrimp, which, I add, were a sixteen-dollar surcharge. Sixteen fucking dollars, for four "jumbo" shrimp that were neither jumbo, nor edible. I'm still bitter about that. Oh yes, their steaks. The medium-rare one was overcooked, and the well done one was undercooked. Now, look: I appreciate the staff at the Wagon Wheel are used to only hearing the words "well done" with a sarcastic tone, like when a puppy shits outside of the house for the first time, but how do you screw up a well done steak? You just cook the fucker until it has the same consistency as the sliced up Doc Martens we were served. Everything came with a side of baked potatoes -- which, if they were originally baked this year, I would be stunned -- and a thimble of over-boiled broccoli that looked as lethargic and unhealthy as those in our party that finished their meals. Remember when I said that eating at the Wagon Wheel was an experience? It was one that our servers seemed determined to drag out, serving members of our party at random times, and with massive gaps between each person. The time between the arrival of the first plate and the last was, easily, about twenty minutes. Whoever said that "good things come to those who wait" was a liar. And this, I add, was at a time when the restaurant was as crowded as Jeffrey Epstein's funeral. In many respects, it almost felt like a piece of cruel performance art, with the restaurant serving over-salted food designed to sap the moisture out of you, but not actually coming round to take a drink order. I've rambled. I'm sorry. Let me wrap this up: The Wagon Wheel really is unmitigated bum.
