It's been a while since I have been inside Mercado Loco... let's see how they are doing! Tonight, I did not bring enough of my homemade carnitas over to my clients and she was wanting carnita taquitos. So, I pulled into Mercado Loco because their carnitas is delicious! They have a very compact parking lot with a vendor on the sidewalk selling the doritos that you can put your sauce & lime on. I skipped him today and walked through those automatic doors... I know Mercado Loco has been here for decades. I grew up just around the corner and finally walked in about 5 years ago for the first time. Boy, was I missing out! At first, you notice this is a Mexican grocery store that also offers hot lunch/dinners. The price for some of their items are a little high than your typical grocery store... being that some of the items they offer are higher quality. However, sometimes, the prices do not match up when you get to the front. Cilantro had a price of $.69 on display, but I was charged $.75... it was only a tiny difference, but just putting it out there. I went straight to the hot case and a woman with a beautiful smile greeted me in Spanish and asked me what I would like. I ordered a pound of their carnitas. Oh, heck, give me some of those chichorrones, too. Next thing you know, I'm grabbing some of their hot salsa... I think their hot salsa is one of the best, hottest salsas that I have ever had that I can handle! We're talking nose running, but it's so good you can't stop! Next, I grab some king size corn tortillas. Some cilantro... they have wonderful produce available here... as well as those gorgeous purple dragon fruits when the season is right. After my pound is carnitas, pound of chicharonnes, cilantro, tortillas, and salsa... it came out to just a hair above $40! Ouch, but that is what you pay for when you want authentically cooked carnitas and chicharonnes. When I got home, I was a little disappointed that I was given some of the dried out pieces of their carnitas. When I say dry, it was too hard to eat. So I cut those parts off and tossed them (my carnitas blew their out of the water, btw.... just saying, lol.) The chicharon's were hot and miss throughout the entire time we ate them. Super hard, popping you he l can hear in your teeth, in your jaw... but some parts were delicious, succulent, crispy... yum! I love coming here earlier in the day. When I get tacos, they for 99% off the time on point! They are gorgeous and tasty... and get the HOT SALSA! read more

The meat tasted like Fabuloso The guy at the counter said the meat fell on the floor. I thought he was joking because he laughed right after. But proceeded to give me the order i requested. After inspection at home the smell was faint. But once cooked it almost seems like the meat had been marinated in that fabuloso fragrent liquid smell. This place is dirty and filthy. People are careless of the quality just like the owner. He use to have an other location in Rancho Cordova. But the dirty details about their specials and promotions made me sexond doubt buying anything feom there. JOKINGLY i would ask if the meat was good this time. I've shopped here multiple times because the selection is great, but my recent experience on Friday, February 27 really disappointed me. I had to ask the meat counter employee to add a bit more to my order, which is a normal request when purchasing by weight. Instead of simply adjusting it, she became visibly upset. What made it worse was that she started talking negatively to her coworker about me -- right in front of me. The coworker joined in, and both were speaking in a way that was clearly unprofessional and disrespectful. As a paying customer, I don't think asking for an adjustment to my order should be an issue. Customer service matters just as much as product selection, and lately the quality and service both seem to be declining. There's a lot of variety here, but experiences like this make me consider taking my business elsewhere. I hope management addresses professionalism at the meat counter because customers deserve to feel respected. This is for the West Sacramento location: Stopping in frequently to replenish basics like vegetables, fruits, milk, cheese, bakery, plus some other treats like candles, candy - have had nothing but excellent and smiling help and courtesy from all staff members! What a nice place! I can often park right in front and if not, there is parking aplenty. Parking can be tight spaces, but there is a lot of parking, just take care. Today in fact enjoyed a great fruit salad, using fresh fruit from here - and tonight's guacamole is with avocados from this place - as a single person, they have all the basics anyone would need, plus some excellent specialty items. Bollilos, croissant, creme horn, ginger pigs!! They do have a full scale meat counter but I haven't tried it yet. I can also recommend the very fresh packages of tostadas - combined with beans, cheese from variety cheese section, and sour cream, topped with their great fresh pico de gallo and salsa verde. read more

Doesn't seem loco to me. Just a regular little Latino grocery store. Old and shows its age. Small, crowded. Tight aisles. Not particularly clean. Really kind'a ugly inside. Produce pretty tired looking on my visit. Low priced though. Over ripe mangos would make good licuados. 8 mangos for $4. I bought a small bottle of Tajin. $3.79! Last year I bought a bottle at another big and modern Mexican market the price was $1.79. I'm a new Roseville resident. I want to find a better Latino supermarket. Mercado Loco is a very unassuming one stop spot for road trippers if you are looking for a bathroom break and a delicious quick bite. The people are friendly but dont speak much English. We decided on chicken and lengua tacos. They were succulent and possessed a nuance of flavors- which was more than expected for this quaint carniceria and taqueria! They have a small grocery area with a variety of snacks and even house made chicharones. The bathrooms are clean and Mercado Loco is right off the Douglas exit 80 East in Roseville. Picked up Lunch at Mercado Loco today, honestly after eating food my stomach has been upset. Major hart burn, with constant back room breaks. I know it's the food because I keep smelling the food and just makes me want to throw it all up. OMG! If you are a salsa lover this is the best place I've ever found! As a Caucasian I have an unusual need for hotter than normal salsa. All their containers of salsa are AMAZING! Their Salsa Taqueria is so tasty but is a little too hot for even me. So I mix it with my favorite medium heat store salsa at and it's undoubtedly the best salsa I've ever had. Their more mild salsas are to die for. Go in......buy your favorite style of 12 ounce CONTAINER that lasts 10 to 14 days and you will be SOLD!!! DELICIOUS! I've ordered via doordash twice now for me and my family and everything is terrific. We've tried the carnitas plate, quesadilla, papusa, tacos, and burritos. All of it just incredible! Everything is so flavorful, even the rice. This time we over-ordered, just so we can have another full meal later. My only wish is that I could order chorizo a la carte. Whoa! Why am I just now finding out about this place??? My husband, son and I picked up a bunch of tacos and eaten them in the car. We got a few chicken and steak to try. We also ordered a couple plain chicken tacos for our son.I honestly thought this was just a Mexican market and didn't realize they served hot food! I was excited when my husband brought the boxes to the car. I asked, can we eat now?! We opened the boxes only to find two of the most gorgeous plates of tacos! (See photo) The meat was tender and the salsa was amazing. Our son ate all the chicken out of his tacos and left the tortilla . Hah. He is 2 and hasn't quite figured out the taco concept yet. Sometimes take out can be disappointing-- this shop was an exception. I hear they have all you can eat tacos and offer the new hot trend of birria tacos on the weekend. Bought bad meat (arrachera/flap) from this place on Fri (7/26). The worst part was the customer service. No apologies from the manager. She just said if I want more meat or money back. I got my money back but I doubt I'll go back. I've been going there for years. First time I've gotten bad meat. Service has also been borderline acceptable. Let's start with the fact that the employees were rude. Especially the lady at the cash register. I went to pick up some meat and other things. I got 1 pound of carne asada and they miss labeled it and marked it as $80! And when I pointed it out they first tried to act like I was got that. I had to put it back on the counter and tell them to look and fix it. Finally they did. They ended up swapping the price tag with someone else's on accident. That's fine. The. They still over charged me by $4. The cooked food there taste and felt like it was a few days old. Especially the carnitas. I got a pack of corn tortillas too and when took them out of the package at home they crumbled apart. So the woman at the counter was extremely rude. I tried to pay with Apple Pay by using tap. The machine said it couldn't accept the tap. The woman said "oh, no money?" I said well it didn't decline it just said it wasn't accepted. So I tried a different card. Again it said it wasn't accepted. And again she said "no money!" So I tried my bank card. And the machine wasn't reading it. And she looked at me and said "why you come with no money?" Miss ma'am!! I explained that there must be something wrong with the machine because I had tried 3 different forms of payment. And she just looked at me and said "no, you have no money ". Now if there was another store that I knew of around there I would have just left everything at the counter and left. But I didn't. Thankfully I had cash on me so I just paid with cash. I will never be back. I will always tell people not to shop here. Maybe get some new employees with better customer service and if you aren't selling enough food daily either make less of it or don't sell it at all. Worst store ever read more

My review is mostly just for the meat. We frequently buy raw meat from here to BBQ and always love it. We decided to cater from here for a graduation party and they did not disappoint. This market makes me happy! The staff is super friendly and helpful, the market has plenty of options to choose from at very competitive costs, and they have the hard to find authentic items if you are interested in cooking Mexican food. In my case, I needed masa to make tamales. They mixed me my batch fresh and I also chose some chorizo and a thicker corn tortilla. All of the items were delicious! The chorizo wasn't overly fatty, and in fact it was rather lean for a sausage. Regardless it was quite tasty and had a nice spicy authentic taste. The corn tortillas were great and made a nice base for a tostada. I enjoyed them immensely. The tamale masa was excellent. It was just the right consistency, and it had a great balance of salt and lard/liquid. Normally I have to mix the masa with some broth but that wasn't the case, and it tasted wonderfully! I will go back and explore other options! I am happy to have found the location! It's a great local market! read more

Used to be a great carniceria, but it's gone downhill. They no longer marinade the arrachera when you buy it. Now they say it's "pre-marinated", but always dry and much less flavor. Some of the staff they have now is much less helpful and friendly. Plus, they always try to give you much, much more than you ask for on the portions (padding the cost). read more

Been to a few Mexican markets around and this one is easily the best. Marinated meats are really good and cook up perfect. Lots of little snacks and treats the kids like! FINALLY found my spot for burritos!! I've tried a ton of different Mexican spots around Roseville for burritos and street tacos and was not a fan of ANY of them until I recently found this place. Their chicken burrito is DELICIOUS, and I love how there is a generous portion of rice in it. Their street tacos are also great.
