I got a car from these people and was told after a year they'd take it back and get me upgraded to a better car, within that year the car they sold me was nothing but problems, it's a 2021 Mitsubishi outlander that had 30k on the odo, I had to replace the cat sensors, a O2 sensor inside the cabin, had to fix a transmission leak and now I have to fix the catalytic converter since they didn't have the decency to tell me it was a aftermarket part instead of a OEM. These people are some of the worst car dealership I've worked with, I think I even preferred Tim's truck Capitol or Dan o Brian. read more

Bought 3 cars from Merchants over the years. 2 out of the 3 blew their transmissions in under a year of having it. Brought the most recent one there to get looked at for noise coming from the transmission and they told us that "it's completely normal". It doesn't help they don't have certified mechanics working on anything so don't expect anything to be fixed if you do bring it there. They will also do everything in their power to shift the blame on you and not take responsibility for the fact that they sell lemons. 0/10 will never recommend Merchants Auto to anybody ever again and I will never be returning either. read more

These people are dirty rotten scum bags. They sold my wife and I a 2019 Toyota with 20,000 miles on it. Seemed like a great deal on a proven frame, body, and power train. Until 3 days after we pulled from the lot "sold as is" and we were over come with the awful stench of DOG URINE . We put the inside under a black light after dark and it looks like several dogs pissed every where inside the van. We wanted to have the van property cleaned and detailed, but we had (3) quotes with the cost to do it right at $1,500 and the detailers stated that they must remove the carpet from the van to get all the bacteria out of the carpet and the floor under the carpeting, and that they need the car for 48 hours to do it properly and ensure they get the stink out permanently. We called Merchants Manager of Internet sales and their Service Mgr, and we walked thru the 3 quotes with them to see if they would even consider splitting the cost. They refused but did agree to clean it, but they did not do it properly, they had the car for 12 hours. When the wife goes to pick it up she is sold a load of BS from the Service Manager. The stench is back now that the car is sitting in the sun, and Merchants is not returning the wife's phone calls. We are just at the beginning of a one man and woman very public campaign of transparency and how they hid this condition from us. The beauty of our campaign for Merchants transparency is not going to cost us a cent, and yet Merchants will never be able to quantify how many used car sales they may have lost out on. I wish that I could give them no stars. I was interested in a Nissan NV350 passenger vehicle they ha one online with no pictures I contacted them through the online form and began conversing about scheduling a time to go and look at it. Merchants is a 2 and a half hour drive for me one way, so my wife and I took a day to travel down and see it. when we arrived we were greeted by a nice salesman who looked it up and said it was not available, they said that it had just come in and had an issue that they didnt know how to fix yet. I explained that I had made an appointment and travelled the distance i did to come see it specifically making an appointment to look at it and never once was there a time that was mentioned that it was in the shop or had something wrong with it. I was fuming. then the sales rep did a classic bait 'n' switch we have a ford explorer to look at instead. we told the rep that we were still interested and left our contact info with him when it came out of the shop to let us know. well literally 3 days later it got marked online as sold. 6 plus hours travel, food, babysitter, nothing. no compassion, no apology. just whatever it took to placate us and get us out the door. horrible dealership horrible customer service. horrible waste of time. read more

I got my vehicle in Sept signed up for Auto Pay Bi-weekly. Everything fine until the check got lost in the mail in May. Just found out that they collect my money bi-weekly then mail a check to my loan company monthly! Also hidden in the paper work is a $400 fee for signing up for auto pay and a $3.99 fee every by-weekly withdrawal! Last month the check did not go to my loan it got lost in the mail! So now I look like I am late but they have my money. Tried to call Auto pay plus for two days can not get through, so did my bank and the loan company could not get through. Called Merchants they could not get through either! In this day and age of everything being automated they mail a check! Be very careful with getting a loan through Merchants and Auto Pay Plus. They pushed the gap and the serviced contract. Go figure. Another business that refuses to stand by their equipment. I just recently purchased a vehicle here. I thought I'd gotten a great deal and was so happy when I left! I was told not to hesitate to reach out but my salesman Richard Roy would not be in for 4 days but we had to set up a state inspection and he was going to find me a contact to have a remote starter added and to replace the FOB. I had no idea there was an issue with the FOB or anything else in the car. After a few days i noticed the car would not lock, the FOB didn't work and you can't lock the door manually if it's open. Ok great. made note of it and moved on. The next day when measuring for floor mats I pulled up the "dealer must remove before sale" labeled plastic to find a fist sized hole in the floor on the drivers side. I reach out to my salesman that evening and after explaining I was concerned the hole could lead to rust was met with "I'm not here to fight". He told me to call service. I called service who told me that they WILL. OT even look at the issue without Sales telling them it needs to be fixed. The following day I text again, asking what the result is and hear NOTHING so, two days later I call after I text and am ignored again. I'm told that they don't cover "cosmetic" damage but will have them look at the FOB when I bring it in. Not even addressing the sound in the wheel. I was then told my my salesman that "we have gone as far as we will go... you have a warranty but that also doesn't cover cosmetic damage and now, after putting $4k down and payments starting within days - ZERO assistance or recourse. Do NOT go to them. If it seems too good to be true I guess it is. Sick that these people don't care that a new car might rust out and a single mom doesn't have a NEW locking car, and we haven't even gotten to the tire noise. If you go to Ron Semons, you will be treated with the utmost courtesy and respect. That is a car dealership that cares more about the low-income than our government EVER did. My friend needed a car immediately. Suffice to say she didn't have good credit, good income, or a good anything-record. She's a good person--she just had a long run of bad luck. She was on the mend. And she really needed this car. Ron was not a salesman. He was a social worker. He not only heard her story and lowered the amount that she had to make a downpayment for, but gave her just the car she needed. It was barely driven and served ALL of her needs. She has 5 kids. She'll be able to make the payments. She almost cried and said that she had never made any purchase in her name before. It was a life-affirming moment. I was so touched by the sensitivity of Mr. Semons. But, I'll go further to say that the dealership is very welcoming. Everyone smiled when they greeted you. It was like a happy family. And that's how it was run until it was sold to the management. There are some dealerships that look you up and down if you don't look like you have money. These people seem happy to work there. They're doing a wonderful service. I don't know about the 1-star reviews for the dealership. But my guess is that they didn't have Ron Semons. He has managed car dealerships before, so he knows customer service. I told him that I would write him a glowing review. Tell him you read this review. That's carte blanche. He'll treat you well. The windshield washing fluid didn't work the alternator was bad and there is a water leaking into my trunk causing sever mold. In Sept. 2024 I had purchased a 2023 Ram Extended Cargo Van for over $36K and I was told there was an inspection process and everything was in good working order with no issues. I thought it was strange that I did not get to see an inspection check list. Shortley after taking possession of the vehicle I found 3 major issues with the vehicle. I am stuck with a one year old van that needs thousands in repair. So, even if they find something in an inspection process, they will not be telling you. I am horribly saddened and extremely disappointed. I will not be back to be taken advantage of again and I recommend you stay away from these shysters like Peter Phaneuf. I purchased a Ford Escape there on March 13, 2024. On Wednesday May 8th while driving home, my gas light came on so I filled up and upon turning it back on, the check engine light came on and the car was having difficulty accelerating but the RPMS would be up between 3-4,000. I took it to my local mechanic this morning as it was the first opportunity I had. I've been told and shown that the high pressure fuel pump was damaged from the cam follower essentially disintegrating and the total cost of repairs is at about $3300 with them. However, the concern is that the way it broke apart is that there's no telling what kind of debris may have made its way into the motor and its recommend to have that replaced as well which brings the cost upwards of $5000. The warranty paperwork I got when I purchased the vehicle was never properly filled out so I'm not sure. It's been less than 90 days since I purchased the vehicle, 58 to be exact and I feel a problem like this should have been caught prior to the sale of the vehicle. I'm extremely unhappy and I have tried calling the sales manager, Riley, multiple times today to no avail. I've tried contacting my salesman, Kurt Swett, by phone and email to no avail. I was meant to take a vacation yesterday and my primary vehicle is now undrivable. I depend on this vehicle for work as well and the salesman I worked with knew I was trading in my older manual transmission Kia because I wanted something more reliable and safe. This was my very first purchase with Merchants and had been a good experience until this happened. Very unhappy and would have expected SOME sort of communication from them. I will be going in to have this taken care of and will NEVER purchase a vehicle here again and will warn everyone I know to avoid them. read more

This company has once again pulled the old bait and switch routine. From reading other reviews (which I have done before ever giving this dealership a chance) I am far from the only victim of their scam. I and a friend of mine both separately called the dealership to inquire about a particular vehicle. We both talked to two separate salesman and we were both told the vehicle was available and even asked when we could be there to take it for a test drive. I told the salesman that I spoke to that I would be coming from just over an hour away and he assured me they still had the vehicle. Of course when I arrived I was told differently and the person I spoke to apologized that I was given the wrong information. I then explained that I had a friend call as well to be sure and he was told the exact same thing by a different salesman than I spoke to. Let me start by saying that I'm pissed off at myself but I didn't do more homework before I bought a car from this place. The car itself is a decent car, the price was not exorbitantly high, but the problems began because we bought it when it was dark out. Rule number one. Do not buy a car in the dark. Especially from a smarmy salesman. There were like easily afford to six things and scratches all over the freaking thing. It drove pretty good in the test drive, we were pretty desperate so we bought it. Now we get it home, the windshield washer fluid doesn't work, the trunk release doesn't work, different lights and dings and things happen for unknown reasons. Obviously we're going to deal with all the issues and keep the car, but it'll definitely be a one and done at merchants. Makes me wonder how many repeat customers they actually have. read more

Got an appointment the same day for an appraisal of the vehicle we were selling. They were completely flexible with their schedule and even allowed for a late in the day appointment. The offered the best price of the 4 places we visited. Also they were efficient, professional, cordial, and they have a great coffee machine and waiting area- although there was no wait time. They have about a million vehicles for sale and lots of staff to accommodate everyone. There is no pressure or hard sell shenanigans. It's just a pleasant and pleasurable place to sell a vehicle. NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY!!! I went to Merchants Auto this past Monday to check out a few cars I was interested in that they had LISTED FOR SALE on their website. After getting there I was able to test drive the cars and decide on 1. After signing all of the paperwork and having my co-signer drive 30+ minutes to fill out paperwork (because they don't take deposits to hold cars) I was told the car didn't have a title. I was told by the salesperson I would have to wait 6-8 weeks for the title to come in. This was not made aware to me again like I mentioned until after I filled out credit check paperwork that contained information like my social security number. We were very upset by this, so the sales person had her sales manager come over and speak with us. His name is Scott Chavanelle. He was horribly rude and disrespectful to us and wouldn't listen to my concerns as a customer, continuously interrupting me, or my reasoning as to why I cannot wait 6-8 weeks for a car. He then proceeded to tell me that the majority of the cars on their lot do not have titles. Which I would like to clarify means that they do not own those cars... the bank does, and they also shouldn't allow people to test drive cars they don't own. Both Scott and the sales person who will remain unnamed because she didn't do anything wrong, tried to put me onto other cars that were out of my price range and desired mileage. Obviously just trying to make a more significant sale/commission. We weren't looking to start any sort of argument but Scott apparently was. As a "sales manager" you should never speak to customers the way we were spoken to that day. He continued to get heated about the conversation and said some very rude and inappropriate things to one of the individuals I had with me at the dealership. We left feeling very belittled, disgusted, disrespected and angry. It's unfortunate to say that I was recommended to this place but I will never do business with them again.
