And the reason I keep coming back is because Transition House truly does make a difference in people's lives. When I'm serving plates of warm food to young, rambunctious, bright and articulate kids, I can see what a service that Transition House provides to the Santa Barbara community. This is not a place where families are forgotten about. I love seeing the parents working on homework with their kids, to then go on to take more classes themselves, on site, to take advantage of every opportunity to better themselves and their situations. These are truly loving families on their way up and I'm so glad that Transition House is there to provide that space!!

You enter through their garage, where a friendly security guard helps guide you through the process. They also provide donation receipts if needed. They accept almost everything, including men's and women's clothing, books, shoes, and unbroken kitchenware. The only items they don't accept are children's clothing. The security guard let us know that the donations go directly to people experiencing homelessness, and there is also a women's recovery center upstairs that many of the items support. It feels much better donating here compared to street donation bins that often get tampered with. Highly recommend donating here if you're looking for a meaningful place to give back and wanting to donate your items.

I also went back today to volunteer, and they gave us a tour around the facility and showed us how everything operates. It was really impressive seeing how much they've grown since they first opened and all the different ways they help the community. Catalyst has two gorgeous houses in the Sylmar area. They are coed and not overcrowded. They will do whatever they can to help you transition into your own place. I went to live there after finding myself homeless and I was treated with kindness and respect always. I'm happy to say that they helped me get back on my feet and now have my own apartment. Both houses are really beautiful and very clean. They have cable and WiFi for the clients as well as a landline phone. Each room also has its own flat screen tv. There are washers and dryers in both houses. The staff are caring and respectful and they take care of any problems that may arise very quickly. If you are looking for a peaceful place to get back on your feet, I can't recommend this organization enough.

At a former job of mine, Food Share allowed the educational non-profit organization I worked for to shop weekly for fresh produce to distribute directly to elementary school students and families served in need, many of whom struggled with food insecurity. This partnership was vital, and very much appreciated by all because it helped improve food access throughout our community at wellness fairs and nutrition classes. Thank you for your hard work!
