I then called the Zionsville Country Veterinary Clinic and spoke with a kind and compassionate woman named Jen who immediately made an appointment for me at 1:30 this afternoon. I then met with Dr. Andrea and her assistant Samantha and it was determined that Derek would be euthanized today. Both ladies showed a high degree of compassion and professionalism and I thank both of them for this. If I ever get another dog I will definitely be doing business with the Zionsville Country Veterinary Clinic. Their employees helped my wife and me get through a very difficult day and I cannot thank them enough.

Unfortunately, that level of compassion has not been my experience with the rest of the staff or veterinarians. Over four visits with my German Shepherd, Emma, who suffers from perianal fistulas, not once did I feel genuine care or empathy toward her condition. The interactions have consistently felt rushed and impersonal. The pricing structure is also difficult to justify. Everything is billed separately--exam, labs, testing, medications--and even basic services like a nail trim are an additional $30. At these price points, it would be reasonable to expect some of these routine services to be included in the exam fee. Despite significant costs (over $700 for a visit, plus $500 in medications), there has been no effort to establish a long-term care plan or provide meaningful guidance on managing Emma's condition at home. Instead, the expectation is frequent return visits without clear direction, which feels more like a business model than patient-centered care. There is also a noticeable disconnect in customer experience. A sign in the lobby warns that rude behavior will not be tolerated, yet the tone from staff can feel cold and unapproachable--especially if you ask questions. I find it hard to reconcile my experience with the very high online ratings. It leaves me wondering if others have had similar experiences but haven't spoken up. I understand veterinary care has evolved and costs have increased over the years, but compassion, communication, and respect should not be optional--especially at this level of pricing. One day after posting this review the vet sent me a text: After reviewing your concerns in your review, it is clear that we have not been able to provide the level of service and care you are looking for in a veterinary hospital. A strong relationship between a client and their veterinary team is built on mutual trust and confidence. Based on your review, it appears that trust has been lost. For that reason, we feel it is in the best interest of both you and our team to cancel your upcoming appointment. We believe you and your pets will be better served by a veterinary practice that is a better fit for your expectations and communication style. I won't be back and lucky for them, I have had time to decompress before writing this review. The whole thing seemed off, the staff was ok until I met the Doctor, Dr. Neyenhaus. Being polite is not part of vet school, so I get it. She had a pompous attitude towards me. At first she seemed like she wanted to help. THEN, the appointment spiraled into a slipperly slope of her acting as if she was ready to clock out for the day. The reason for the visit was my cat wouldn't stop itching & I knew she probably has fleas. I had planned on getting her some medicine for that but was never offered meds. There was also no mention of having fleas from the doctor until she was getting ready to head out the door. She was signing all the paperwork and told me the total cost of the visit is $91 but that the vet tech in the room with her would "write me up an estimate that I could look over." That's ok, but was no conversation about what the problem might be. Diagnosed as "itching" and brought up my cats teeth which seemed a little off. I expected more of a consultation rather than a checklist, maybe that was my mistake. After the checklist was done with she was ready to hit the door. As soon as she was getting ready to go, I stoppped her and go "So, does she have fleas??" Then she poked her head back around and stopped her exit long enough to say "Yes but you probably have a flea infestation at home so until you treat that there's nothing you can do, AND she will have to be on flea medication the REST of her life". I asked if there was a shot I could give my cat instead of daily medication the doctor kept putting the emphasis on wether I was too busy or not to administer the daily medication. I felt as if I was being accused of keeping my cat in unsuitable conditions at home. When I acknowledged my feelings with the doctor she started to backpedal and act like she wasn't just being very passive aggressive with me and that I was just taking it the wrong way. Why would you have to back up on what you said if you didn't think you were wrong? I was so appalled that I brought it up to my grandmother and we looked her the doctor's license number to check the legitimacy of her license. It looks like she's been practicing since 2004. You'd think after all that time, 20+ years, you'd actually enjoy what you do. I've been in my career for over 10 years and I love what I do and love helping people everyday. After my bill was wrote up. I realized it was more like a DOOR DASH receipt. There were ALL KINDS of obnoxious fees. One I remember was a "waste disposal fee" and it was $18. WAIT, there's more. If you've made it this far, it's the part where I decided to return. After I had given my cat two doses of meds, again, still trusting the business, I notice the meds have been EXPIRED! They expired in August. Today, earlier this morning I called to see what that was all about because I don't feel safe giving her the medication. I asked the person on the phone if it was a normal policy for them to sell expired medication. I was anticipating they would give me a new vial or my money back or SOMETHING. The receptionist said "Yeaaa let me place you on a brief hold..." then disappeared for a few minutes, as one normally does when they are trying to figure out what to say. When she came back she said "ok well the packaging on the actual medication says it expires in 2028". As the customer that all sounds off. I'm still unsure its safe to give that medicine to my cat or just go get seen by another vet. I was NEVER not ONE TIME asked to have my cat's medication replaced or even apologized for the mix up.They seem ok with hiring bare minimum doctors who are emotionally inept and are ok with providing bare minimum customer service. I don't recommend taking your pet here if you really truly care about your animal because they are literally putting it in harms way. UPDATE- The business has contacted me already (wanting me to remove my review I'm sure) . I really don't have any interest in talking to them unless they give me a refund or new medication.
