I recently had a chance to check out Meringue Cake Stuido while visiting my friend about halfway between our two homes. They were incredibly thorough with all of their ingredients and allergens. They make everything from scratch, but I was not able to have any of the desserts since they were all made with soy flour, but they went above and beyond, helping me choose a lunch and checking ingredient information for everything. They were so incredibly kind and patient and did not make me feel like a burden at all by asking questions. I ended up going with the grilled ham cheese and tomato sandwich on ciabatta with a cheddar cheese, and they give you a few choices for sides. I went with the orange slices and I also picked up a cup of coffee - their chocolate hazelnut coffee with cream and sugar. They even came back a few minutes later because they saw I had a peanut allergy and just wanted to make sure that hazelnut was safe for me as well. They were so sweet. Every person there was really accommodating and when I first walked in, they were helping a customer choose a cake for their daughter's birthday, which seemed to be taking a while, but they were patient and kind with her as well. This is a family owned operation and they really put their heart and soul and everything. The spot itself is just tucked into a shopping center and the interior is cozy and cute. They have a wide variety of desserts and pastries, along with sandwiches, breakfast options and drinks. Everything smelled and looked amazing. I wish I had been able to try a dessert, and I would absolutely recommend them to anyone in the area that is able to eat their desserts. Their cakes looked so good. I really enjoyed my sandwich. It was so filling and had a really good flavor! The tomato just made the ham pop and the orange slices were really refreshing. I don't usually go with fruit as a side, but I think I need to start doing that more often! Their coffee was really good too. The chocolate hazelnut flavor was not overpowering, but had a nice subtle flavor. I would absolutely be back. read more

I really love this place. Ordering in and you'll find yourself with a hot breakfast served well! This place is definitely popular among the younger crowd. I wish they had bigger tables and more comfortable chairs. Really would have liked to bring my parents here. I don't know if it's just me but I always find myself confused by their menu. Sometimes I'm unsure what each breakfast item comes with but the cashier always answers my questions. As for the drink menu, I feel like the flavors of coffee aren't very apparent. I've gotten some goodies from cake studio twice now and unfortunately both times things are good but not amazing. Their baked goods look better than they taste and generally are very heavy and feel like they just sit in the pit of your stomach. I also find the set up of the store strange. When you walk in, there's a big menu blackboard on your left, a display case in front with cheesecakes and cupcakes and then a display case behind the counter in a corner with croissants, muffins, etc that's hard to see unless you walk around. It makes it hard to know what the options even are for someone who first walks in. I do wonder if the made to order breakfast/lunch sandwiches might be better than their baked goods. But overall it's decent but doesn't make me crave it again later. read more

My husband and I stopped by to pick up a mix of desserts for a get together with our friends in New Jersey. We arrived around 10:45 in the morning. The showcase of pastries looked appealing. My husband and I had a hard time deciding which cupcakes to get. We got a mix of cupcakes, a mocha chip brownie, and a cream puff. When we had the desserts around 8pm in the evening, the icing on the cupcakes were half melted or overly soft. Perhaps this was from the long drive. When we got to Jersey it was not refrigerated, but I don't think it needed to be. Also in one of the boxes that had three pastries, the cupcake tipped over and the icing fell off. I think they should have individual cupcake holders to rectify this. I tried the coconut cream cupcake and the peanut butter mousse cupcake. The coconut cream was too sweet for me and the peanut butter cake was on the dry side. Our friend's daughter had the brownie and raved about it. She said it was one of the best brownies she ever had. My husband also loved the cream puff. He would get it again. I wish I had split it with him. All in all, the cupcakes had great potential. Perhaps if it weren't for the long drive it may have tasted better, but not sure if it would have helped the cupcake from being dry. Time and time again, I haven't a clue why I search all around for a decent bakery when I have the loveliest one in my backyard! Meringue Cake Studio has been in the Perry Hall/Nottingham neighborhood for some time, now. It's the cutest bakery! You feel a warmness as soon as you walk in. The workers/bakers are nice. I've visited a few times in the past, to try a few of the items they had to offer. For my first time, I bought a quiche. It was pretty tasty, but to add a little flavor, I added some caramelized onion and tomato pesto (see attached picture). This more recent time, I wanted to treat myself to a nice dessert. I picked up a delicious looking carrot cake cupcake and a slice of Oreo cheesecake. I had no idea which one to choose from, so I bought both. The carrot cake was moist and so tasty. The icing was a bit on the really sweet side, but it was still pretty good. The cheesecake was absolutely decadent, dense, and rich. The flavors of the Oreo and cream cheese blended so perfectly together. The brownie-like bottom was a nice touch. All in all, this place is a must to visit. They have sandwiches and so many cute pastries to try. I'm making my way back soon to try the pineapple upside down cheesecake. It looked a-ma-ZING! read more

Decent local, family owned bakery offering breakfast and lunch. A few small tables inside that will seat about 3 people max per table and a couple out front on the sidewalk as well. They have a gorgeous selection of desserts in the front case. Really nice people working too! I got a Boston cream donut and a Snicker coffee. I don't think I'll get the coffee again, but the donut was really good. I also ate half of the boyfriends Gouda and ham quiche which was excellent and I wish I'd gotten one of those instead. My son and I decided to give this shop a try, its located in the perry hall strip mall, on bel air road. Not only is it a bakery, but there is almost something there to satisfy everyone's palate........ hot beverages, smoothies, breakfast pastries, hot foods and sandwiches, salads, as well as soups. I just loved the décor in the café, it has a very nice and homey feel to it. On the day we visited, it wasn't to busy or crowed. My purchase was for the meat quiche, which consisted of bacon and smoked gouda, it was really delicious, I loved it, to me it was a bit on the salty side, it could have been the type of ham that was used, the price was reasonable $6, to me its well worth it, I loved the crust which was just the right thickness and it was nice and buttery, the quiche texture was nice and smooth, This is most definitely a chill spot. read more

I noticed Meringue Cake Studio on my weekly trip to Aldi's and decided to pop in to see what they had to offer. Meringue's is a nice addition to the Perry Hall area, offering scratch made baked items, sandwiches, and breakfast fare. Their display case carries an array of baked goodies to draw you in and make you spend all of your money on sweet, yummy, deliciousness. From cheesecake slices and pecan pies to cupcakes and apple tarts. But the treat that stopped me in my tracks was the chocolate glazed brioche donut. It's like if heaven were a donut that could melt in your mouth. So buttery, soft and pillowy. And the chocolate wasn't super sweet, so it didn't make for a cloying sweet donut, which is nice. This donut had class and was sophisticated, if I might say so. We've always seen this place while stopping for groceries and while driving along the road, but had never actually stopped in until we saw people raving about it on Facebook. Whenever we came to the local Aldi's to pick things up, there was always a line and people eating outside at the tables. Now we see why. Meringue offers a mix of brunch items and classic pastries. The first time we went the pastry case was only half full, so there were limited options, and I ended up ordering just a homemade bread to take home. That baguette was delicious. It was $5, a bit pricy, but it was worth it to me. My father and I, who are both bread snobs, agreed it was quality. The second time we went the pastry case was full. I ordered the Oreo brownie cheesecake, my mother the cherry chocolate cheesecake, and my sister the chocolate fruit tart. We all loved what we got; I'm usually picky about cheesecakes, but this one was the perfect size. It was $5 and the cheesecake part was fluffy and light. I didn't have a stomachache after I eat it, which I do with some cheesecakes, which is a major pro. My mother's cherry cheesecake also had real cherries on it, which she enjoyed. I am very disappointed with what we got for my 3yr old twins dinosaur cakes yesterday. we have ordered custom cakes from this bakery for 2/3yrs now and I will not be returning. We were told day of pick up the baker is no longer there. My husband and I paid $160 for cakes that looked like my daughter and I made. Sloppy work, thick icing and no filling that I asked for, tasted like boxed cake too. If I could post a picture of the cakes anyone would be disappointed. My husband and I decided to try this place for breakfast last weekend. They're located in the shopping center at the intersection of Belair Road and Silver Spring Road. The storefront is situated with surrounding businesses such as, Aldi, Pizza Boli, The United States Postal Service, and a the Dollar General. The cafe has a surprisingly hipster vibe, given its extremely suburban location. They offer an assortment of baked goods; from cupcakes and tarts, to cheesecake and danishes. Their menu also includes sandwiches, omelets, and quiches of many varieties. I opted for a bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant. I also tried the key lime cheesecake. The bacon, egg, and cheese was really great, but the egg lacked seasoning. The key lime cheesecake was the perfect ratio of tart, sweet, and creamy. I found the buttercream icing and peppermint chip used to garnish the cheesecake unnecessary, as it didn't complement the flavors very well. Anyway, we're stoked to have found a nice mom and pop owned breakfast spot near us, and plan to try the other items on their menu soon! read more

Quit going to Dunkin' Donuts. This is a lovely breakfast/brunch option in a clean, well-appointed local place. Even the coffee was good though iced coffee would make it exceptional. We had the zucchini quiche, ham egg and cheese on croissant, a chocolate donut and a piece of Nutella cake to take home. Each item was high quality, baked well, and delicious. It was hot but not scalding which the roof of my mouth so appreciates. It also came out on real plates and the coffee in real mugs, nice touch. I saw a few of the cupcakes and layer cakes that others were picking up while I was there. They all looked really well done. The Nutella Triangle that we took home for later was great--sweet but not too sweet, moist yet light. All in all, great little place and I hope they're able to stay in business. read more

They just soft opened their storefront yesterday. I stopped in today, limited stock but they had enough to choose from. I ordered a ham and cheese roll, cinnamon bun and a fruit/cream cheese pastry. All three were fresh and delicious but the fruit/cream cheese pastry was the best. They also had some amazing looking desserts in the refrigerated case. I will check those out next time! The owner said there were plans for a coffee bar, which I think will be a great addition. I'd like also like to see bagels and cream cheese. Perry Hall is missing a locally owned coffee/bagel/bakery combo! The store is open and airy, probably will need more seating eventually. Let me first say, I was on a search for a bakery after I was advised by the one I initially went to could not do "stackable" cakes or ones with fondant. I inquired why and was told there were just too many wedding cakes the MAY be requested, meaning not scheduled yet, within the next two weeks. I was advised they could do what I asked but in buttercream. Perplexed, I left knowing this bakery would not and could not make my dream cake for my 5 year old Godson's birthday party. I began my search for a place that could. I called Meringues bakery and asked if they had any restrictions on cakes and was told no. Being that the party was 2 weeks out, I had enough time to place the order. Let me say, ordering this cake was a breeze. What I was told by the bakery prior to going to Meringues would have turned out a disaster. I emailed a picture of my request and paid my deposit. The day of the party, before I picked up the cake, I was nervous. My Godson loves Disney cars and wanted a Lightning McQueen/Towmatter mash...(it was cute though) and OMG did meringues deliver!! It was the most beautifully executed cake I have ever seen!! People who weren't even in our party took pictures and one guy thought it was fake! I didn't even want to cut it (but with sugar starved children and a time limit we had to). The cake was just as delicious inside as the outside! Needless to say I was impressed! I also purchased 12 cupcakes for the parents who may not have wanted cake (there were only 3 who didn't...but to her credit his grandmother is a simple woman...and I have the rest); however, they were just as delicious as the cake!! I believe I referred everyone who has asked about the cake and those who texted after...who were STILL impressed!! I have to say with the service I received, the knowledge of the staff, the perfection of the cake, and the simplicity of the process I am now a faithful patron! I will be back in September for my Goddaughter's birthday and her sweet 16 next year (and maybe a wedding of I find "the one") all in all I am still impressed! So here I am driving home from the doctor's office when out of my pregnant peripheral vision I spot a bakery on Belair Road. I visited here once a few weeks ago at the recommendation of a friend. It is located in a shopping plaza area and there is plenty of parking. There are a few spots to eat inside if you choose to. The customer service was very good. The staff was polite. I tried a warmed quiche that I believe was spinach and feta and two cupcakes. I was concerned about the quiche since all of the spinach and feta seemed to be right on top and not mixed inside of the quiche. I did end up enjoying the quiche more than I thought I would. I would definitely order the quiche again. I thought the cupcakes were ok. I plan to go back in the future and try the macarons and a breakfast sandwich which I was told were very tasty. I visited on a Sunday and there weren't as many dessert options to choose from as I had hoped. The staff person did say that Fridays and Saturdays are good days to visit for more options. I came here on Tuesday after a friend shared some carrot cake he had purchased the week prior. This is located next to the Post Office in Perry Hall. Everything on display looks incredible and yummy.
