Have used La Vert with Merit Appliance Repair for couple appliance repairs previous. Quick response, good communication. While doing work on on GE Profile fridge La Vert commented that he noticed the display on our range top microwave was very dim. That is an indication the the main board is failing. He also stated that he knows I'm a very capable handyman and it's an easy repair. Told me where to order the part, and what to do to swap out the board. I ordered the part, did the repair and bright display again. La Vert didn't need to share that info but did. I recommend. read more

There was nothing but problems with this company from the beginning. They were contacted through choice warranty to repair my refrigerator. They contacted me via email and set up an appointment for which I wasn't available. I called them again to set up an appointment. The appointment was supposed to be between 12 to 4 o'clock today. It was getting late so I called them and asked if they were still coming. He said yes you're the next one up. He called me when he was on his way and said he didn't have any paperwork from choice warranty and I asked him how he contacted me if he didn't have any paperwork. For whatever reason, he asked me to contact choice warranty to get him the paperwork. Without it they could only tell me what was wrong with the refrigerator, but couldn't repair it.I called choice warranty. They put me on hold and contacted Merritt. The agent from choice warranty came back on the line he informed me they would be using another company for my repairs and that Merit had difficulties with the app. It would've been nice if Merritt would've told me upfront that they weren't prepared to complete the job. After posting this review, I received a phone call from Merritt appliance. Chastising me for giving the company A one point bad review on their website. Suffice to say, I called him back and told him that I only put on their website exactly what happened. He started yelling at me and ended at the conversation with FU bitch and hung up. We have issues with the ice maker in our refrigerator for way too long. Most of the problems have been water coming out instead of ice. Not good. Over the years we have had several repairs done from one thing to another. Now not being an expert on the repairs, and we certainly have had great experiences with the previous repairman, none of them could seem to fix our problem with our ice maker for an extended period of time. We contacted Merit this time as our previous repairman was not available. After a little bit of work and a phone call, the gentleman that came out diagnosed our problem. He then showed us what the problem was. Good news is finally found out why we  were were having problems with our ice maker. The bad news is, it turns out it was a factory defect, and to repair that would cost more than the cost of our refrigerator.  Not good news however the good news was Merit Appliance diagnosed our problem, and their service call was very reasonable. We would certainly consider contacting Merit again for our appliance needs. read more

I had a washer appliance problem and they looked at it and said there was an issue with drain pump and charged $85/- for diagnosis and the overall charge would be $400. I would appreciate if they can provide me with some sort of paper report for the diagnosis performed so that i can get it fixed with others who can fix it with reasonable cost but i was not given anything except for the invoice. After securing a part (The closest supply place at Snelling and University didn't have the part and he drove all the way out to Burnsville for me to get it). The technician was very responsive. He called ahead to let me know he was coming. Unfortunately he diagnosed by 25 year old dryer as needing a new motor. He showed me a temporary work around so that I could continue using it while I am searching for a new one. I first used Merit Appliance 5 years ago in repairing a washing machine. Just moved into this house and noticed I could not get more than a tiny flame on a couple of burners. Merit guy came out and after poking the holes in the burner to clear out some kind of sedimentation left by the gas burning he said he could do nothing and the burner needed replacing. Service cost was $85. Next day we noticed gas smell from stove area and called the gas company. Service guy came out and fixed two tiny leaks. We told him of our unsolvable problem with the burner and he showed us that the first clicks (electric start) would produce only a low flame. But if the knob were turned a little more to the right the second set of clicks would produce a nice bright large flame. The tech who came out from Merit did not know how this appliance worked! Merit technician called me ahead to let me know he was on the way and was courteous and competent when he arrived. I'd give 5 stars except the person who answers the phone is a bit rude. that's not very important but it did make me pause before I scheduled the appointment. I called after business hours and Levert answered my call and set up an appointment for the very next day for a tenant that said the washer wasn't working. Even though we weren't present during his inspection (we left him a key to enter on his own) he found that nothing was wrong with the washer and we were only charged for the visit and no made-up charges. Merit came out to fix our ice maker. I told them that there had been a major leak at the back where the water hose connected to the fridge. His diagnosis: an ice block formed at the back of the ice maker causing a blockage, and when the water tried to come in, the pressure caused it to back up and leak out. I paid him to melt the ice. Result: In 24 hours it's only produced 4 tiny pieces of ice and there was a large wet spot on the floor behind the fridge. When I called him back he said all he can do is replace the ice maker. I told him that I'm not convinced that the ice maker is broken, but rather that water can't even get to the ice maker because it's leaking out the hose in the back. He said that the hose connection seemed fine to him so there's nothing else he can do. He said I need to call another company. Not happy at all. read more

The next day he showed up on time, and had the dryer fixed within 1 hour. He had the problem diagnosed within 15 minutes. It was a thermal fuse. A common problem I hear. He was personable, sharp, and his prices were reasonable. $150 total for the job. I will definitely use him again whenever I have an appliance that needs urgent help! read more

I called Merit Appliance Repair regarding a problem with my Whirlpool dryer. It was making a very high pitched screeching noise that sounded like maybe a belt needed to be replaced. Levert answered the call and was able to come out the same day. He actually identified that the issue was with the barrings on a roller that guided the belt. We called Merit Appliance Repair when our washer went out. They could come out the same day (much sooner than anyone else we talked with, including another company with whom we had a "preferred customer" service plan). They weren't able to diagnose the problem right away, but came back the next day and had a quick and transparent diagnosis and solution. Ultimately we didn't have them perform the work because it would be more cost efficient to just buy a new washer, but they were very understanding and even helped provide advice on what to look for in a new model. I originally chose this company because of the positive reviews on Yelp, but I did not have a good experience. Though things started off well- he was on time, courteous, and professional- ultimately, he misdiagnosed the problem with my dishwasher and told me I needed to hire a plumber (which I did, costing me more money). The plumber said, "Nope. It's an appliance problem," so I ended up calling another company who identified the issue as a defective mother board and replaced it. The dishwasher has been working perfectly ever since. What really bothers me is that he refused to refund me any money for his mis-diagnosis, even though it ended up costing me a visit from a plumber and hiring another company to diagnose it correctly. The first time I asked for my money back was after his recommendation to run the hot water for five minutes before each cycle didn't work. The advice sounded odd and I hadn't gotten the sense that he really knew what he was doing while he was here, so I respectfully asked him for a refund since he didn't diagnose the problem correctly. He insisted he was right and that it was a plumbing issue. I called him back again after the other company fixed it, stating that I now had a functioning dishwasher and documentation that he was wrong. He said he'd have to come out to check the dishwasher again to verify what I was saying and if he wasn't convinced, he'd charge me another $80 for the visit. Frankly, I didn't trust him at this point, figuring he'd find an excuse to bill me again. In the ensuing discussion, he called me a liar, saying I had never asked for my money back in the previous phone call and he wasn't going to refund anything.
