I didn't actually have any work done on my 1996 GMC Sierra pickup truck on November 17, 2020. After getting my battery jumped twice by AAA within two days (November 15 and the morning of November 17), I drove the truck to Merkl's on the 17th after the second jump before I shutting the engine off. Fortunately, Merkl's was available to look at my truck immediately. My wife drove me home from the shop (Merkl's), but before we entered our house, Bob at Merkl's found that the problem with the truck was not that the starter needed repair or replacement, which is what my guess was, but, rather was due to the fact that the headlights were switched on and left in that position, thus draining my battery (duh!). I was embarrassed by my lack of technical prowess, but I was no poorer for the experience, thanks to the honesty of the people at Merkl's. Guess where I am going the next time I have a car (or truck) problem? read more

I'm pretty handy with cars and do most of my own work and have a good idea of what most repairs take. When I can't do it myself, I go to Merkl's. -Very nice and courteous staff -they explain everything clearly -they suggest repairs that should be done, but don't push it if you decline -they have had very fast turnaround times -I've called around to other shops and their prices are in-line or below anyone else I've called. read more

Honest, professional, and efficient: these guys have been incredible both times I've worked with them. In summer 2014 we brought in our Honda Civic after experiencing some overheating issues. The Merkl's team quickly diagnosed the issue and informed us of 1. bad news: our engine block had cracked, but also 2. the good news: the repair may be covered under an extended warranty from Honda. Bob and Rick went above and beyond to coordinate with the closest dealer to have our car inspected, and sure enough, the repair was covered by Honda at no cost to us. A new engine block would have costed us thousands of dollars out of pocket, but thanks to Merkl's customer service and integrity, we paid less than $50 to have the issue diagnosed and resolved. Today, I brought our vehicle back in after noticing some intermittent grinding from the front brakes. The Merkl's team quickly looked into the issue, determined it wasn't a safety concern, and offered us potential solutions. We opted to forgo any maintenance at this time, and our car was ready to go within an hour, with no cost ($0) for their time or the inspection. I am not a car guy or engineer, so finding a local shop that is trustworthy is incredibly important to me. I will be coming to Merkl's anytime we experience car trouble in the future, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

These guys are great. Big O tires down the road told me I need new brake calipers, pads and rotors. Quoted me almost $900. I took it in to Bob and the guys to get a second opinion. The looked at it and found out that I still have 50% of the life left. They didnt charge me a dime. Thanks for being so honest. I will definitely come here for future repairs. read more

Merkl's is great, I've been going to them for a number of years, both at the old location across from the old Elitch's and now over in wheat ridge. They've always been honest, even at one point replacing a part they broke when they were taking my front end apart and rebuilding it. I have seen some reviews online about negative experiences, however, I can say unequivocally, during the many years I have frequented this business that I have never had a bad interaction and I have never felt like they were milking the repair cost. If you're looking for an honest, reliable mechanic, I can't reccomend these guys enough! read more

I concur with another review I see..."honest, professional, and efficient." I've been taking my car to them for years. Bob always answers the phones. He is a knowledge mechanic and always tells it like it is with costs, timeline, etc. They do mark up parts quite a bit, but seems to be in line with other places. If you need a new headlight or battery, then you can save some money by going to an auto parts store. But I usually find it isn't worth the hassle. I suspect any place that sounds cheaper is going to cost you more in the long run. There is major value in trusting that they are only doing what is needed and keeping older cars running. They made a mistake one time and they made it right. read more

When we first moved to LoHi, we had trouble finding a trustworthy auto mechanic. We were referred to Merkyls and have been loyal ever since. We only go to Merkyls and they always take great care of us. Reasonable prices and hard workers. They're very communicative and will call you with a quote prior to servicing to get approval which I really appreciate. read more

I moved to Denver a little over a year ago, leaving my trusted auto repair place in Kirkland Washington. I had taken my 2000 SUV to a couple places for oil changes looking for a place I could trust with my auto repairs and maintenance. I got an ad in the paper for Merkl's which happens to be only a few blocks from my house. They are super friendly and have a clean shop. When they recommend a repair i don't feel like they are trying to make a buck. I feel they are looking out for me and the long term care of my auto. I am there often now, I do sales and get my oil changed about every other month. I feel I can trust these guys to do a good, honest job with my SUV. read more

The last time that I brought my car in here to be serviced, I asked them to check the brakes. I like this place. I always get a good feeling from the mechanics and it is definitely convenient for me. Well, I just left Midas and they told me that these guys never looked at the brakes because had they looked at the brakes they could've saved me hundreds of dollars. Merkl's is ridiculous. They charged me $18 to install a third taillight. I could have done that myself but I asked if they could do it for me real quick and they charge me $18. That was on top of the $700 they charge me for my service. They treat people like idiots and they are always smug. Fuck these guys. Honestly, they owe me money, and they put my life in danger. read more

I have taken two of my vehicles for various seal service to Merkl's. Both times I recieved quotes that were siginificantly less than other dealerships or shops. The last time I went in I thought I needed a new CV axle for my old honda civic that i use for commuting because it had a minor oil leak. They were very honest and told me that the minor oil leak was not coming from the CV axle and that the car would be fine without doing anything to it. I really appreciated their honesty making me feel confident that i could continue driving this old car without putting a lot of money in to it. Definitely getting more of my business next time. read more

My family has been taking cars to Merkl's since moving to the neighborhood in 1979. I took my car there in high school, and ever since I moved back to CO in 2011. I wouldn't take my car anywhere else. I can fully trust Bob's recommendations. They were great when I was looking for a new used car. I don't think they even charged me for the multiple vehicle inspections. The prices are cheaper than what I've been quoted by the dealership when taking my car there for recalls. The price was very fair and decent turnaround to replace my timing belt. I recently had about $1600 worth of work done on my aging Honda. Rather than talking me into doing the work, Bob brought up thinking about at what point to sell the car versus keep ploughing thousands of dollars into a car with 140,000 miles. How honest of a mechanic is that, to bring up not doing the work?? read more

These guys are pretty much the greatest. They are honest, understanding, and have some of the cheapest prices for any shop I could find. I've never had customer service like this at garage - very polite and friendly. I brought an ancient Toyota Camry into the shop with lots of questions, and they were very patient and understanding. The most dishonest business I've ever encountered. Maybe because I'm a woman they thought they could pull one over on me but little did they know I actually know a thing or two about cars. Went in yesterday on a referral from a different shop that didn't do the work I needed on my rack and pinion. They told me to ask for Rick, not John, because John would charge me more (which should have been a red flag right away). I leave my car with them and when I come back they couldn't even find anything wrong with the rack and pinion and instead quoted me a $2300 job to replace a blown head gasket! Now I guess they thought I was stupid but I do know that a car has to overheat for a head gasket to blow, which my car never has. I also know the other signs, like milky oil, white smoke coming out of the exhaust and I know that in order for them to test for a head gasket leak or blown gasket they would have had to hook it up to a machine which costs at least $100. They didn't charge me a thing when I came to pick up my car but insisted I make the appt to have the repair done. On top of everything when I got there they had backed a big truck up onto my bumper where it was parked leaving a scratch. I took my car to Perry and Sons this morning and told them the story. Within 45 min they figured out it was all just a loose belt. They tightened the belt and sent me on my way free of charge. The guys at Merkyl's are a bunch of crooks. I'm assuming they see a pair of boobs as an opportunity to make some extra cash. Take your business elsewhere! read more

Daughter was having issues with starting and was intermittent on 05 Jeep. My thoughts were starter switch, starter or alternator as battery was dead on several events. Was thinking big bucks. Bob evaluated and turned out to be a battery cable and much less $$$ than planned. This shop is excellent and more than fair. Highly recommend. read more

I did not have a good experience with this shop. First they quoted me over the phone for a diagnostic and then charged me double once I had my car towed there. After they ran the so-called diagnostic they told me all sorts of things were wrong with my fuel system, that I needed a new fuel injector and gave me a quote for repair at $730 plus tax. I decided to have my car towed to an independent mechanic and he discovered the problem with my "fuel system" was that I only needed a new fuel relay, at a cost of $30. He showed me how it was obvious Merkl's never even checked my fuel relay, even though that is the first place they should have started when figuring out what was wrong. The shop is either run by incompetent people or they tried to rip me off big time. Maybe both. read more
