We ended up walking our dog over to the tree house overlook and the views of the gorge and the water below were genuinely breathtaking. Along the way, we made time to check out Brooks Coal Mine which is an interesting piece of history. It's a small, shallow mind that was built more than 100 years ago and I love that there is a memorial there to all the coal miners who have lost their lives working in the mine. We walked through shaded paths and green spaces taking in the scenery and just really enjoying the vibes here. There were lots of trees and greenspace with quiet benches and so many things to look at. We actually got really excited when we spotted a bug that we had never seen before. I added a photo below and maybe I sound like a crazy person but I'm not from this area. I learned afterwards that it was a spotted lantern fly. Apparently that's not a great thing for the ecosystem and they're kind of a n invasive pest, but you learn something new everyday right? I honestly wish we had planned for more time at the park itself, but we did stay for about an hour and really enjoyed our walk and the fact that our dog was having such a lovely time here. I still feel like there was more for us to see. Parking was easy and entry was free. If you are in the area and just want to stretch your legs or take in the beautiful nature, this is definitely a place to check out.

We found no one at the gate for help and when I called I was told that was all they had, yet when I walked to the full hook up area spots were open. Booking agency's are horrendous. If you can't do the job correctly don't do it at all. The only good thing about this place was catching up on sleep.

The Indian Trail was a bit rocky and a little steep at parts, but the blazes are easy to follow, and the trail was doable for beginners. Make sure you wear good, sturdy shoes. Looks like there's a lot of ground around, so a couple of walking trails would be nice. As it is, it takes a whopping 15 minutes to see it all. Also there's also trash in the hole. The park is open dawn to dusk. Once in the park, the location is clearly marked and located. The parking is abundant and park generally clean. I noticed two potential negatives for visitors...1. The terrain is uneven around the hole and not handicap accessible. There is a cement overlook that arches over the hole for a direct look inside, but again, not handicapped accessible. 2. There are no trash cans at the site. We observed a bag of trash hanging from a tree left by a disrespectful visitor. Still overall it's worth a look if you're nearby.

I stayed in the organized group camping area and loved how the sites that we booked allowed for plenty of tents to spread out within your group. We stayed in J, K and L. Last year there were porter potties and this year there was a bathhouse. Sadly there were no showers, the family bathroom was locked all weekend, and maintence getting to the bathroom was not good. Wehad to walk through a field of knee high grass to get there. During peak tick season, this was not ideal. Lastly, quiet hours apparently do not exist this is area of camping. Groups around us were chanting and singing before 5am and had an intense volleyball match at 6am. Boyscotts camped near us and were up late screaming until 12am. There needs to be more ranger presence, this truly altered our experience. The state park itself has great hiking and swimming area but the organized group sites were very mismanaged.

A beautiful wooded area with rock formations, a shallow creek, and plenty of spots to stop and take in the scenery. The water is crystal clear, and it's fun to hop across the rocks or just sit and listen to the stream. The stairs definitely provide a workout, but they're well worth it for the views and the experience. It feels surprisingly secluded even though you're close to civilization. We also appreciated how clean and natural the area felt. A portable poty is on site. Plenty of parking. A pavilion and playground are also available. Wear sturdy shoes since some sections can be rocky or slippery near the water. Whether you're hiking for exercise, taking photos, or just looking for a quiet place to relax, Stair Park is a great local escape.
