So - the bar for a pizza place in the Panhandle of Florida next to some horrid mini golf touristy trap (your ball goes to the same spot no matter where you hit it!) is pretty low. S/o to the folks over at Merlin's for somehow coming in lower than the bar. You walk in and you're immediately funneled to the front of the line and then they get mad that you didn't reference an 8x11.5 sign that's the same color as the backdrop of the wall, in a place your eyes naturally wouldn't go to. Did you mess up this ambiguous process? No worries! They'll have you sit there like you're a the dunce of a 1970's classroom like some kind of idiot. And then they won't serve you at all, making sure their wait staff doesn't make any money and you don't get your food! What a business model! It was our last night at the beach and we wanted something easy and would provide packable leftovers. I know at the beach seafood is the, ahem, catch of the day but the reviews on this hole-in-the-wall were too good to ignore. Plus, it was literally across the street from our condo. The place was very busy and only had two people working. The guy that took our complicated order (no red onions on this, no bacon on that, no croutons on the salad) didn't write down the first thing. Nervousness set in! I ordered a large half BBQ chicken pizza/half Hawaiian and she ordered a medium pepperoni, sausage and black olive combo - both with hand-tossed crust. The food came out correct (!), prompt and hot. Oh - and delicious! The BBQ sauce on mine was some of the best I'd ever had. We were thrilled with everything and we had leftovers that were just as tasty the next day. So while at the beach, seafood may be your first (and second, and third, and....) choice, but be sure to think about other options like Merlin's. You'll be glad you did! read more

This is our go to for pizza lately. Their thin crust pizza is amazing. It's still a little doughy and not crispy like a cracker like some places. We always get the buffalo chicken pizza, a vegetarian pizza and plain cheese. I don't know what it is about their cheese pizza but the cheese tastes ten times better than any other pizza places cheese. We always do take out and the pizza is always ready on time. They do rewards as well when you sign up with them so definitely worth taking advantage of. They don't spam you either once they get your email. read more

We were here on a vacation. We saw all the great reviews and figured this has to be a pretty good pizza place. It was crowded which is usually a good sign. The interior of the restaurant is nothing to comment on, almost no ambiance to speak of at all. The service was fairly lackluster. We ordered a side salad and a medium pepperoni explosion pizza. When we asked for the dressings the kid at the register didn't know what they had. He named a few and then seemed disinterested in continuing the explanation. He said it would be a 25 minute wait. 25 min came and went and came again. Over an hour later, being told it's coming the entire time, another server checked our number and realized we had been skipped. They produced a pizza quickly and sent us on our way. If this was a pepperoni explosion then I wonder if a regular pepperoni pizza has only one pepperoni per slice. On to the food. The side salad was about half carrot, just as an FYI. The pizza was on par with Chuck E Cheese, but at twice the price. There was nothing special about the flavor of the sauce or the ingredients. The dough though. I don't know if they freeze the dough a few days in advance or what, but the crust is stiff and chewy, in a bad way. Save yourself the time and money and just get Pizza Hut, it will undoubtedly be better than this disrespectfully botched attempt at pizza. If I could give no stars I would. read more

We are in town for Spring Break. Second day here and we have a condo full of hungry teenagers, so after a quick review of the local places we decided to try Merlin's. We ordered a supreme hand tossed pizza, a cheese hand tossed, a thin crust pepperoni pizza, and cheese bread. I will give them good points for an easy ordering website, very close to the strip, and they prepared our order within 15 minutes. We picked the pizzas up for takeout. The pizza's were all decent with the cheese being the most well cooked. They do seem to use quality ingredients, and the flavors were really robust. All the pizzas with the exception of the cheese one could have been cooked more thoroughly. Our supreme and the thin and crispy pepperoni seemed to not be completely cooked (dough was still kind of raw). I got the impression they are a well established pizza place with a long standing tradition in Destin. It is worth trying if you are in town. Although if you like your pizza more well done, you may have to request this. read more
