I've stayed at the Renaissance Hotel 6+ times now, but for some reason Merotoro just didn't attract me. On my last visit I was hanging out with my chef friend who lives in Cancun and he said Merotoro was really good. I still dragged my feet but opted to check it out on my last evening.
First off, the restaurant is stunning. Ambiance is cozy, warm, elegant and inviting. It felt really fancy without being pretentious. Views of the marina of course are amazing and outside dining looked awesome. I opted to sit inside though.
It's Mexico right, so service was absolutely amazing of course, and everyone I interacted with made me feel right at home - Which was quite a few people since I had two servers, quite a few food runners, and the manager stopped by as well a few times. Yeah I'm popular lol.
I was doing my best to be skinny, the menu was absolutely amazing and I knew I had to try it all.
Decided to start with a ceviche. I love ceviche, but for some reason I hardly ever order it as there's usually other things I love more on the menu. This was definitely the right decision as it was by far one of the best ceviches I've ever had.
Followed that up with the lamb dish. Slow cooked, melt in your mouth lamb, that has that comfort food feeling with the 5 star presentation.
Of course dessert was a must, and the carrot cake with goat cheese ice cream sounded absolutely delicious. The dish was texturally interesting as there was cake, ice cream and some crunchy pieces too, that might have been ginger snap cookies?
Seriously I keep looking back on this dinner and can't wait to come back.... Hopefully when the world returns to normal! read more
