Went to the pumpkin patch in Merrymead Farm. This place has an ice cream shop. I really liked how fresh and thick the ice cream tastes. They definitely get it straight from the cow source. They don't offer samples which is a real bummer so I went with my usual. It was a graham slam. I really liked the chunks of graham cracker. The place also has a bunch of milk to buy fresh as well as other interesting snacks for purchase. After the ice cream, we walked outside to the greenhouse. The greenhouse had somewhere to buy stuffed animals and apple cider/ pies for sale. I wasn't impressed with the hot apple cider- it tasted like something I could get in the grocery store. Cute little farm to come visit. Parking is free and the admission is generally free except on some holidays. Used to be able to pet the animals but thats not allowed anymore. You can feed the animals but you need quarters for the machines. They have a small farmers market and a general store with outdoor seating. The produce is fresh. There is running water for hand washing but only porta potties. Could be fun to come with your kids for the experience. Be sure you take pics of them in the cutouts. read more

They have lots of great seasonal activities, like the bunny train at Easter, a fall festival with pumpkin picking, and other themed events. What a nostalgic, beautiful place this is. We placed our orders at the front counter, and circled back inside the store to buy some ice cream tubs. My friend insisted on the dark cherry. On the other hand, I beelined straight for the cold brew coffee. And as a coffee fan, I had to get the whiskey-coffee at the counter. Nice and smokey! Definitely got the whiskey part down too. Merrymead Farm is a local destination in this part of Montgomery County for families who want a taste of farm culture, including homemade ice cream, wholesome bakery goods, seasonal fruits and outdoor picnicking. It has been around for over 100 years in the sound ownership of one family. Although cold creamies are its forte, I was there because it was apple season and the right time to buy my favorite Apple Cider Donuts and their primary ingredient- Fresh Pressed Apple Cider. Those other pies and pastries looked great (talking about you, apple cranberry pie and lemon bars), but they would have to await another visit. Prices are a bit jacked for the novelty of the enterprise, but there is real quality in the products sold, so there is a reasonable choice to be made. Those Apple Cider Donuts are a soft cake style with plenty of sugar and cinnamon. Excellent with morning coffee. The actual cider is best when very cold or warmed with cinnamon stick. Definitely brings a full flush of autumn magic. The high schoolers running the shop were as pleasant and efficient as they were when the business opened in 1971. Some things never change. read more

A great place to take children! We love seeing all the animals while we are visiting. The ice cream is delicious and there are many flavors to choose from. The small shop is also fun to look around at all the goods and foods they offer. We especially love coming in the Fall when the corn maze is open and hayride is running! read more

New to the area went there for the first time today. Love the atmosphere, farm and store. We love home made ice cream and were excited to bring some containers home for the kids. We got chip cookie dough and mint choc chip. While we were impressed with texture and quality of the ice cream. There were very little amounts of chips and cookie dough. We added nestle morsels after the kids complained. Not sure why they skimp on the cookie dough and chips, maybe that's how some people like it. We will not be going back, but if you like plain flavors, this is the place for you. read more

Was kinda sad about our experience here. My friend saw the sign outside about an orange cream milkshake and we decided to come in for that. She was very confused that the price for the milkshake is $9.99 when the menu clearly displayed $7.99 any flavor. She decided to get it anyways and I asked her if it was worth it and she said no. Very disappointing visit. Actually made me sad. I loved this place throughout the years, but now they charge $24 per person just to walk around and have the opportunity to buy donuts. Great place for kids! My daughter love this place so much, we make it an effort to come as much as we can. With COVID, it's hard to find a place to bring your kids but being that this place is outdoors, it's perfect for kids. After walking around the farm and my daughter making million MOOOOO nosies at the cow, we stop by their store and buy some treats for the house and milkshake for the road! It's a very nice dairy farm open to the public with some extra attractions for the visitors. In the early spring, young calves are kept in the separate area under dome-shaped igloo-looking crates. You can visit them in a nearby barn other times of the year. It's fun to see them especially during feeding time. There's a small farm animal zoo very popular with kids including large pig cage housing Franklin when we visited. I think it depends on who's turn to be sleeping there--I have seen Orville and Wilbur in the past. I have never seen them being active (awake) during our past visits. Bunnies are in their cages. A large aviary houses a pair of peacocks. He may startle you with his very loud cries that can be heard throughout the property during entire time of your visit. There's a corral with goats and donkey. It seemed number of animals decreased compared to our past visits--perhaps due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. There's a small gift shop with a rack of t-shirts, some produce, local honey and such. It also offers large selections of seasonal flowers (potted or cut) and vegetable seedlings & plants in the spring and summer outside. In the fall around Halloween time, there will be a huge pumpkin patch for you to pick your favorite or two.... The last but not least, it's a local favorite ice cream spot--a part of an operating dairy farm. Ice cream here is so fresh, smooth and sweet. It's a really fun place to visit and enjoy walking around this dairy farm and enjoy some great ice cream. read more

They make their own ice cream and it is work every penny. Great variety of flavors, I had soft serve black raspberry vanilla twist with sprinkles. Shop has local goodies hard to fine at regular supermarket....fresh cinnamon sugar crusted cider donuts and shoofly pie. You can see the cows being milked and buy the milk products at the store. At least they have a large parking lot and parking lot attendants to match, which is something most other farms do not offer. If you're reading this review, you probably want to know - what flavor should I get? Apple caramel drizzle. It's seasonal, but oh man, it taste like the perfect fall. It's creamy, there are fresh apple chunks in them and it's very very lightly spiced to taste. I could probably eat a whole tub if I was allowed. On the other hand, their chocolate was good, but wasn't anything to rave home about. They've got a store where they sell a bunch of things made in house - obviously ice cream, but also milk, eggs, cheese, pretzels (?!), meat, etc. We took home a bacon cheddar cream cheese dip and used it for jalapeno poppers. 10/10. Overall, this is a really cute place to go, whether it be with your kids or for a date or just for yourself. Behind the store, they've got cows, rabbits, peacocks, etc, behind the store and open to public to wander. I'll be back. Side note: If you're reading this during COVID times and want to understand how COVID friendly it is, I'd say they're taking their precautions. It's outdoors and the staff were wearing masks. I could not believe that we needed to pay the entire "attraction fee" to see the animals even though we had no interest in any of the fall festivities. So we skipped the animals. The absolute best!!! I have been going to Merrymead since I was a kid and I just love how they have always kept it somewhat the same. It has a way of giving you that nostalgic feeling while walking around looking at charlottes web and the infamous height chart. Since moving I don't get here as much but I stopped today for the pumpkin ice cream - the best flavor by the way! I got a "single dip" cup and it was the perfect amount of ice cream. Don't bring your children here unless you want to teach them about how animals shouldn't be treated. It's bordering the line of animal cruelty to keep animals in such sad living facilities. Please make a change Merrymead. It is advertised as a wholesome farm but in reality it is just a factory farm. The cows I don't have much to say about, but what's the point of having rabbits and peacocks for display in tiny cages? I felt bad for all of the animals there, there is tons of room and I think the animals need upgraded living facilities. Overall this place is depressing but unfortunately common when it comes to factory farming, the ice cream didn't blow my socks off either, the chocolate had minimal flavor. read more

Very disappointed Merrymead is now charging $22 just to be able to walk around their farm in the fall. I could understand a smaller fee and also if you're interested in the children's rides, but rides should be its own separate fee. If we just want to walk around, there should not be a $22 admission fee. My husband and I have been going here for years in the fall and it's been part of our tradition to get pumpkins then a fresh donut or other treat and walk around the farm. Now it's blocked off so you can't even walk around to see the animals and farm. We would already be spending money on pumpkins, snacks to have there and snacks to take home so an additional $22 to just walk around is not warranted. We have been coming to this farm for over a decade, and has been our favorite place to grab ice cream. Typically the farm is clean and animals looks well taken care of. The reason for the 3 star review is something has changed in their ice cream recipe. I have tried multiple flavors in the last two months such as strawberry, peach, chocolate raspberry chip, honey cream, and there is something artificial now in the flavoring.
