We were traveling from Colorado to Texas and blew a tire hitting a pothole over Raton Pass (a common occurrence we're told). David met us after hours to look at our tire. Beaver and David went above and beyond to order our tire ASAP and came out to to our motel (Best Western Plus-actually a very pleasant place to stay and dog friendly) to change the tire and waited for us to check-out to have us follow him back to the shop and have the tire balanced. Beaver and his staff were LIFESAVERS. My husband and I were traveling from Albuquerque up to Denver, and unfortunately had a tire blow on the freeway. We called them, confirmed they had the tire we needed, and within 10 minutes of us being there, they replaced the tire quickly and efficiently. I have high standards for mechanics and auto repair in general. I also have some odd obsessions with them, because I have learned that if disaster strikes, it will strike on a holiday weekend, when I am driving, in the middle of nowhere. While driving back to Denver, the lovely tire pressure light clicked on (this light is truly my arch enemy). After checking the tire pressure in both tires, and discovering they were very low, I panicked. I filled them up with air, and still panicking, went to the vistor's center in Raton. The front desk people were great, not just because they gave me a list of tire repair, but personally called "Beaver" at Mesa Tire. Yes, I probably could have lasted another 100 miles. Maybe, I don't know. Because if there is one person to blow out a tire while driving... it is me. And since both of them were leaking (probably slowly) I still only have one spare. I drove out to Mesa tires and was met there quickly by Beaver, who removed both nails in each back tires and also removed the ugly hubcaps at my request. On a holiday. In under an hour. More like 35 minutes. It was fast. And done very well. Yes, it cost me $100, but the guy did have to drive out on his holiday. It was worth every penny for peace of mind. The repairman was also very nice, and was clearly doing a good job and not out to make an extra buck (which he could have in my distress). If you are in Raton, need some tires or need to fix a flat, I would suggest here. read more

We were traveling from Texas to Colorado in our RV, towing our Honda Accord on a tow dolly. As we were entering New Mexico, a nice woman pulled up alongside our RV and motioned we had a problem. Unknown to us, we had a rear flat tire on the towed Honda; incredibly, I was unable to feel it driving our RV. Ultimately the tire was completely shredded. Had it not been for the nice woman who stopped us and also stopped, we might have lost our rim at the very least. I changed the tire on the Honda with the included "donut" and made our way slowly to Mesa Tire. I cannot say enough nice things about the folks there! They were able to change the tire without us having to remove the Honda from the tow dolly. But, most importantly, the charges for a new tire, balancing and changing it were more than reasonable. We were stuck and they could have taken advantage of us, but they didn't! I hope the locals read this and support Mesa Tire to the fullest! On our next trip out West we are going to make a point to stop by and thank them again for their honesty and great attitude. read more

I am here in Raton for the summer. I had a very slow leak in my back tire and I knew I needed to get it fixed. I have discount tire, but unfortunately I'm about 200 miles from a locations, so I headed to Mesa. First, I could not find the dang place. The guy stayed on the phone with me until I made it. I arrived at 8am right as they were opening. I pulled right in and one of the mechanics took my tire off and found the small nail immediately. The guys were very nice. It was very quick, but very thorough work. 18 minutes and $12 later, I was on the road. These guys are awesome! read more

Virtual ditto to previous review. Sunday, not holiday. Spent night at Sugarite State Park outside Raton. Discovered "low tire" warning (will resist unprintable comment about so-called run flat tires) next A.M., with obvious nail in tire. Everything in Raton that might fix was closed. Only one "tire place" (Walmart) open in Trinidad ("Oh, we don't work on those"). Finally looked at Yelp - then per previous review talked to folks at Visitors Center. In contrast to previous review, they had no useful info. So, also per previous Yelp review, called Mesa Tire. Phone answered, fellow (I think "Beaver" again) very responsive/helpful, was successful in getting one of his employees to come to the shop, who cordially patched my flat and shared of his copious knowledge re tires! From first call to Mesa to on-the-road probably 1.5 hours. Cost: $60 for off-hours service, and $20 for patch. Entirely reasonable in my view. read more
