The fact that there is a farmer's market in Bushwick is quite exciting in itself- local organic produce has even crept into the hood! Just in case you missed this detail- there are two location: Wednesdays @ Broadway & Linden, Saturdays @ Maria Hernandez Park. They've recently added a live cooking demo & food tasting series to the saturday market. Definitely swing by for this at some point. Today I got to taste a delicious portabello ropa vieja. Yum. I didn't linger on the cooking demos too long, but one can certainly gain some knowledge on cooking all those fresh tasty vegetables. I'll stop through again sometime soon. There is a CSA called NEXTDOORGANICS stationed at the Bushwick Farmer's Market that I'll probably be joining. This CSA is unique in that you don't pay upfront for the whole harvest season, you can go week by week. Also, fresh cut flowers are included in your weekly pickups. Aside from veggies, Bushwick Farmer's Market also has local honey, cheese and milk, brewklyn grind coffee and artisanal bread. I look forward to seeing this farmer's market grow in the future. What they are doing is wonderful.

Unfortunately, we've lost Grazin' Angus (although, I'm told I should eat less red meat) and Divine Pickles (I miss those wasabi pickles), but there's still plenty of produce for you. All the tomatoes, greens, beans, nuts, mushrooms, cheese, eggs, flowers and other plants you'd ever want are here for the buying. You can also still grab: Tasty turkey sausage/burgers (and other items) from DiPaolo's. Crusty ciabatta (and other items) from Bread Alone. Whole chickens, primed for roasting. Duck bacon and/or rillettes. Burpless cucumbers. Overall, I've been happy with just about every purchase I've made here over the past few years. There was that one time that I bought an heirloom tomato that got crushed in the bag under other, heavier stuff, and leaked juice all over everything...I was sad about that. Then my cat decided to attack the other, $3 tomato as it sat in our fruit bowl. That was also disappointing, but he's a known asshole and we should've expected it. Anyway, what hasn't changed in the past half decade or so is that I think you should come here and buy delicious items from the vendors. Because the more you support the market, the more awesome vendors will show up. Therefore, by spending money here, you will really be increasing my quality of life. Fresh, quality produce. And you know Mr. Kiwi cares about what you put in your body, because he also stocks the organic and health-conscious stuff: Bell & Evans chicken. Several types of fake meat for the vegans. Ronnybrook Farms dairy. Wheatgrass shots. Pre-made salads that actually look good. A serious selection of Asian eats (noodles, kimchi, sushi, etc.). All the sauces, dressings, canned and packaged goods you might want...it's like Whole Foods up in here, with better prices. Basifcally, they've got an astonishing selection of edible items, and just to top it off, an excellent juice/smoothie bar and legitimately wonderful staff/service. Count yourself lucky if you live in the neighborhood.

There's tons and tons of park space of all sorts in the immediate vicinity (outdoor BBQ, dog runs, track and field, or just plain grass lawns with plenty of trees and open), which makes this a fun experience for an hour or two rather than just quickly buying and leaving. You can easily buy some supplies at the market and have a snack or picnic steps away. This place is around all year I believe but we really enjoy coming in the Fall, as there's great options here for hot cider and donuts, fresh fruits and vegetables, delicious cheese and milk (some of the best Eggnog I've had is sold each year at this market), and lots of other stuff to peruse from while on a leisurely weekend stroll. We live over in Queens, and there's some half-decent similar markets around in that part of town, but it's just nicer to bike or commute over to Greenpoint and enjoy this Farmers Market on a Saturday. If you're in the area on a Saturday morning, treat yourself and stop by.

I'm moving out of the neighborhood at the end of the month and this will be the only thing I miss. The staff is mostly Korean and all friendly, keep the place clean, stock good organic produce. (Prices are good- the only place you're going to find cheaper produce is Key Foods, which is cheaper because it smells like literal human shit and sells rotten food. Do not shop there). I love the uncommon Korean and Japanese products they stock- you can't find this stuff anywhere else. My favorite thing is the basket of onigiri "rice balls" next to the register. Not the best onigiri, but again, you aren't going to find onigiri anywhere else in fucking Crown Heights. If you buy it fresh (check the date) it's pretty tasty, cheap, and you can eat it on the go for breakfast or dinner. Calbee Shrimp Chips must have been invented by Satan because they are too fucking good. They stock fresh Udon noodles, Korean seasoning like Gochujang and Kombu, and even makgeolli (sometimes) in the beer fridge. Beer selection is good. I particularly like the chopped vegetables they stock in the produce section. usually if you're buying pre-chopped food it's way marked up. These boxes are cheap, and make it so easy to cook a quick dinner after work or pack a lunch in the morning. They also have pre made chickpea salad, seaweed salad, kimchi, hard boiled eggs, peeled fruit. All very good if you're short on time (and if you don't eat meat). I'm laughing at the other reviews for this place that give low stars (Amanda C. and Mandy M.) I looked through these people's accounts and they are filled with outraged stories about employees being rude to them. Here's the thing: if you think everyone is rude to you, it might be because :::you're a fucking asshole!::: If you are an asshole, people are not cheerful and friendly to you because you are repellant!

Prepared food vendors include a couple of Mexican fruit stands and King David Tacos. I recommend the fish tacos. There are at least three or four vendors selling high quality produce, a couple of meat vendors including duck, and farm fresh eggs. There are a couple of bakeries and blended honey from Remsburger's. I've been obsessed with their cranberry honey! They give out samples and even have little pixie stix for the kiddies that are only a quarter. A surefire way to keep eager and excited that kids occupied while you make the rounds, lol. One of the farmers has tons of apples. Surprise , its New York state- but they also have apple cider and cider donuts which you can get plain or sugared. It's best if you go to them when the market first opens. That's when they're actually close to warm and tasty. Otherwise it's just dry and no amount of apple cider is going to help. For entertainment, there's usually a couple of bus game musicians. The last time I went there was a saxophonist and what sounded like a Appalachian fiddling group.
