We spent every holiday here and always appreciated the kindness and welcoming atmosphere this place provided for families. We have so many positive memories and wonderful things to say about Stellar Care. The caretakers were wonderful to my mom, and I am incredibly thankful that she was cared for by so many sweet and gentle people. The nurses gave my mom nicknames like "Smiley" and "Diamond Eyes," and it was truly heartwarming to see how special they made her feel. Beyond being a care facility, we viewed each visit as a trip to "Grandma Jeri's House," where our two boys made every visit with Grandma as special as possible. One of our favorite spaces inside Stellar Care was the library--a living-room-style area with plenty of seating, a large dining table, and shelves filled with books, games, and arts and crafts. Equipped with a TV and a record player, it felt like a private hangout where we could spend quality time together. That room hosted many game nights filled with Dominos, Yahtzee, and Uno. We loved the space so much that we celebrated her 70th birthday there, reserving the room, decorating it, surprising her with her favorite foods and cake, and enjoying the day surrounded by loved ones. Another favorite space was the outdoor patio backyard, which offered large tables, a swing chair, and fans and heaters to accommodate changing weather. It was a wonderful shared space to relax, socialize with other residents, enjoy the sunshine, and simply spend time together. There was also a smaller patio that was perfect for quieter days--bringing a portable speaker and enjoying music in the breeze. I loved how every day at Stellar Care was filled with engaging activities, from birthday celebrations and trivia to bingo and live music performances. One especially cherished memory was St. Patrick's Day, when Stellar Care hosted an afternoon of games like hot potato and provided treats and activities for everyone to enjoy. We spent so many wonderful days at Stellar Care, and we are deeply grateful for the love and support shown to my mom. I will truly miss coming here--it was a peaceful, beautiful place filled with warmth and love.

Each morning, my mom was thoughtfully dressed and cared for with dignity, which meant so much to our family. The staff showed remarkable patience and kindness, especially in helping her with frequent toileting and ensuring she was always clean and comfortable. When she first arrived after her fall, she was in significant pain--so much so that even turning in bed or transferring was extremely difficult. The team handled her care with such gentleness and understanding during that challenging time. Thanks to the dedication and support from the rehab team, she made steady progress and, within just three weeks, was able to leave and walk again using her walker. We would also like to extend special thanks to the Director of Nursing, Alice Famador, who consistently went above and beyond--taking the time to personally address any concerns, even outside of regular working hours. That level of commitment and accessibility truly made a difference. We also greatly appreciate the excellent coordination of care with the team from St. Paul's PACE, (special thanks to Bo, social worker), which helped ensure a smooth and safe transition back to her assisted living. Their collaboration and attention to detail gave us confidence and peace of mind during the discharge process. Special thanks as well to Dr. Jaime Stull, who made herself readily available to promptly address any issues. Her thoughtful guidance and collaborative recommendations were invaluable and deeply appreciated. My family sincerely appreciate the professionalism, compassion, and hard work of the entire team. Gemma has been so supportive through the whole process. She has guided my family through the paperwork and process of the move in and a temporary move out for skilled nursing. Then, Gemma and Lynn helped us with the transfer paperwork and settling back in. Both Gemma and Lynn have patiently and promptly responded to our questions and concerns. Furthermore, the caregivers and medial staff on the 4th floor are kind, patient, and efficient in caring for their residents. My mother is now bed-bound but she is calm and content. Their care and guidance has allowed me to take a small step back. Knowing that she is well cared for allows me to breathe easier and allows me some time to myself. Thank you so much.

Unfortunately, due to the progression of his dementia, he was moved to Memory Care. He has been living in the San Diego area for more than 50 years and although he has many friends, (who look in on him regularly), he has no relatives nearby. It is for that reason, that both myself and another sibling, we are dependent completely on the care and care givers at Grossmont Gardens. We could not be more pleased. Their communication, kindness and concern has given us a sense of relief. We are all very appreciative of the genuine warmth given to our brother.

Gigie has been helping families for the last 27 years. The care she and her staff give is far better than what I have seen at other, more expensive facilities. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Sadly my mother has dementia, and we are having to deal with her care far before we ever expected to. Because of some family issues, my mother started out in a large, over priced Memory Care Facility. The care she got was horrible, and I mean horrible!!! I finally was able to convince my siblings to move her to Casa del Cielo, where she should have been from the start. It took less than one week to know with 100% certainty that it was the right choice. If you are seeking a small, reasonably priced home, where you and your loved one feels like family, and not just a number, then I highly recommend you give them a call.

I want to acknowledge that many of the caregivers and staff were kind, compassionate, and truly cared about her. My concerns are with the administration and management and the newly hired director, Karinna. My mother has dementia, but she is high functioning. Not only was this my opinion, but numerous staff members commented on how independent she was compared to other residents. She has poor short-term memory and occasional confusion, but she was significantly more independent than every Memory Care resident and even most residents in Assisted Living. The Montera announced that care level pricing would be increasing but never informed me that my mother's care level had been changed from Level 1 to Level 2. I only discovered this after seeing a document I had to sign with an unexpected increase of approximately $600 per month. There was never a meaningful discussion with Karinna explaining why her care level had changed or what additional services she would be receiving. In reality, nothing about her care changed--only the cost--along with having to deal with this dismissive and patronizing new director. The justification given by Karinna was that staff administered her medications twice a day. However, this had been her medication schedule for the entire previous year and was already part of the care they had been providing. In an effort to reduce costs, I worked closely with her physician to consolidate her medications into one daily administration. Unfortunately, that change was not medically appropriate and did not work well for my mother. As soon as I began the process of returning her to the medication schedule that best supported her health, management showed no patience or willingness to allow time for the transition. Instead, I was told by Karinna that she would have to move to Memory Care or leave the community. Memory Care would have increased her monthly cost by another approximately $2,200. More importantly, I strongly believed--and still believe--that moving her to Memory Care would have been detrimental to her well-being. She was thriving in Assisted Living, remained socially engaged, and functioned at a much higher level than residents in Memory Care. Unfortunately, management seemed far more focused on administrative policies and money than on what was actually in my mother's best interest. Families deserve transparent communication, thoughtful collaboration, and individualized care decisions. Instead, I experienced poor communication, unexpected cost increases, and an ultimatum that left our family with no reasonable option other than to move her. If you are considering The Montera for a loved one, I encourage you to ask detailed questions about how care levels are determined, what specifically triggers changes, how those decisions are communicated, and whether those decisions truly reflect a resident's needs. The Montera I experienced in 2024 was not the same Montera my family experienced in 2026. Since the change in executive leadership (Karinna), the culture appears to have shifted away from individualized care and toward administrative policies and financial decisions. That change ultimately cost my mother her home. I would like to end on a positive note because there are truly exceptional people who work here. Jackie and Brianna at the front desk were always incredibly patient, welcoming, and kind to my mother. Melody always brought the fun, laughter, positivity, perseverance, and genuine compassion into my mom's life, and I will always be grateful for the difference she made. I also want to recognize Aileen, whose knowledge, guidance, and willingness to help us through difficult decisions meant so much to our family. These remarkable women are the reason my mother had any positive experiences and WHY they get a second star at The Montera. I sincerely hope the administration recognizes and values employees like them, because they are the heart of this community.
