I do not have a family member, or loved one living at Sungarden Terrace... but I have had a working relationship with them for over 15 years. I've interviewed several random residents, many times, about their experience living at Sungarden Terrace, and every one of them have had only wonderful things to say about the staff, the food, the activities, their rooms and how welcome and cared for they feel. It's always clean, tidy, always has a new place vibe, and the grounds are immaculate. My experience tells me that this is a safe and secure place for your loved one. read more

I toured the SunGarden Terrace with Susan yesterday morning and I was incredibly impressed! The property had renovations recently done and looks brand new. The landscaping, the parking lot, the lobby, the hallways, the activity rooms, the dining hall, the theater room, the library, the sundeck and garden were all impeccably organized and clean. I was blown away with how friendly the staff is and how long they have been there (some staff members have been there 15+ years!). I met a few residents as well and they are so happy living there... It really is a wonderful, warm, cozy, elegant and beautiful place for family members to get the quality care they need while building new friendships and memories! My dad will certainly need SunGarden soon and I'm beyond impressed with this location! 10/10! read more

My Grandmother used to live alone, however she started suffering from dementia and was no longer able to take proper care of herself, i.g she was regularly forgetting to take care of her medications and getting lost outside her home. I had originally opted to have her live with me, but after a few months, it was clear that I was not prepared to give her the care or safety that she deserved, but I was also hesitant due to the cost restrictions that are implied when talking about care homes. Sungarden Terrace truly was a blessing in every sense of the word, the cost wasn't near what I thought it was going to be and my Grandmother did an incredible job adjusting. She has a made a group of friends and regularly refers to them as her and the "hens". I believe the constant and healthy social interactions have improved her dementia as she is notably sharper when I'm talking to her, I oftentimes forget that she's suffering from dementia. Staff is in incredible, firendly... and I mean there just isn't enough that can be said about this place, my grandmother is happy and healthy and that's all I could ask for. read more

I've held off posting a review until now to see just how well my mom has adjusted. After reviewing several care facilities...much larger, fancier and more expensive than Sungarden, we chose Sungarden for the amazing staff, high level of care and attention, and we were also able to observe how well the other residents interacted with each other and the staff prior to moving mom in. We were so impressed that my mom was willing to "try" it out for 30 days. She is now coming up on 2 years in March. As any child would be concerned with their parent in an assisted living facility during Covid, I must say I have been very impressed with how well Sungarden has pivoted to keep the residents busy and entertained with activities, games, arts and crafts on top of keeping Covid at bay. The social aspect has been a game changer for my mom! We talk on the phone every day and I can tell she is much happier here than she ever was at her own home. The staff and residents have become extended family. There are days she participates in all the activities that she doesn't get back to her room until after dinner. My favorite part is when I call and she tells me she'll call me back because I'm interrupting an activity or bingo! I am forever grateful to the staff at Sungarden Terrace for the utmost care and attention my mom receives and for my peace of mind as well. Not everything is perfect, but overall, my mom is happy here and that's all that matters. read more

After losing her husband in 2016, we needed to find a new home for my wife's mother. We toured several local facilities, and were becoming bit anxious that we would not find the right place for her. A friend told us about Sungarden Terrace, and after just one visit, we were convinced that it fit both our budget and our expectations of care. The facilities are fine vs. fancy, and the staff is amazing! It's not just a job for most of them, they actually care about and love the ones they are serving. This review is a little late as we had to relocate mom. Sad I have to give them a star. They don't deserve it. We put our mom she is 91 there late last year. At that time she was evaluated and deemed sound and able enough to walk (with a walker and someone assisting her) She was able to get to and from barhroom and dining room while at home. We decided that she needed 24 hour care and in home was way to much. First few months were trying. The staff seemed good all was well. (So we thought) Turns out that they would not have her walk 10 feet to the bathroom rather put her in a wheelchair and take her. Was told it was to time consuming and the caregiver has other patients to care for. While there she lost her mobility totally. She fell 4-5 times to which they call 911. (Protocol) They then deemed they need to move her to memory care. She needed someone watching her closer. Ok fine. Then she falls again in memory care. I was there in memory care with her on many occasions when they had one caregiver to watch 15 people. One elderly man yelling he needs to use the restroom. The poor girl could not leave the room to take him because she was the only one there. Mom was constantly brought to breakfast and lunch with no hearing aid or glasses. She was constantly confused and wanted me to get her out of the room with the crazy people. The they told us that they could no longer care for her unless we pay someone ourselves (outside of thier facility)to come stay with her overnight. They said it was overburdening thier staff because it takes two people to move her. They said she was overweight. So they then said we are being evicted. No 30 day notice was ever given until we demanded it. We were already to move anyway. Turns out the day I want to move her belongings I cant get let in because the 1 caregiver in the room cant leave. I said something to the girl at the desk. Went back to memory care and suddenly there were 4 caregivers in t he room. All three standing in the corner giveng me the evil eye it seemed. I would not recommend this place for anyone. Oh yes by the way Melissa and Caroline. The state is getting a complaint on your facility. From yours truly.... One more thing is that not everyone on the staff is bad. Mom made a good friend in one of them. I will not mention thier name here however. I would give her 5 stars. I thought this would be my mother's forever home, but not the case! The caregivers were fine, only one stands out, Priscilla. She is amazing. It's the administration that is horrible. They were so insensitive to my mother's needs. I kept addressing their staffing issues and nothing changed. They asked us to leave. I would never recommend this place to anyone! I have talked to other people that have moved their loved ones out of this facility for the same reasons. Do your research!! You don't want to move your loved ones twice! read more

My grandpa lived here for two years until his passing last month. My mom looked around and decided on Sungarden because it was close for us to be able to visit regularly, the staff were more than competent and personal, it is well kept and there are a lot of community activities. My grandpa wasn't always happy with the transition - he was 100 and had lived a very independent life - but everyone was so open and caring, he warmed up quickly. A number of people stole his heart, he LOVED the food, even when his food needed to be pureed he could eat seconds. They kept a close eye on him toward the end of his life, made sure he was comfortable, respected his privacy when that was called for. I am so grateful for Sungarden Terrace - My grandpa was able to have the highest quality of life his final two years, we could visit and ENJOY him. They became like family to me and my kids, each one of them sharing stories daily of something he said at breakfast, his harmonica playing, his flirting. They are professional, compassionate, there is humor and so much life in that place......the highest recommendation and incredible gratitude to each one of them! Karen G read more

If you're looking for a personal touch and true community-oriented living, Sungarden Terrace is your place. I started coming to Sungarden Terrace as an activities volunteer last year. The entire staff, from the ED to the caregivers to the facilities manager, has taken the time to get to know me and make me feel welcome. It's obvious that they all work together very well - they are a very positive, tight-knit team, and they make everyone who comes through the door feel like family. I had an opportunity to tour the community when I first started coming out, and I was very impressed. Everything is well-kept, clean, and safe for residents. However, they also give the grounds a personal touch. They've added lots of details that make the whole community feel more like home (instead of the sterile, facility-type environment in many other communities). Being in San Diego, there's also a great outdoor area with tables to eat outside, a game area, and a community garden that the residents help maintain. One of the residents was so proud of the tomatoes that he took me outside to try one right off the vine! However, the biggest indication of the quality here is the feeling I get when I work with the residents. They're a happy, relaxed group who enjoy each other's company. There are always plenty of activities on the calendar, and they look forward to having their days filled with things like brain-teaser activities, exercise classes, arts & crafts, and spiritual services. If you or a loved one want a place to call home that really FEELS like home, definitely schedule a visit to Sungarden Terrace. read more

Couldn't be happier with Sungarden Terrace! My mom moved to Sungarden in 2018 after having several falls at home. We didn't feel safe with her living alone anymore. The staff is excellent. They help her with her medication and dressing. Whenever I come to see her I can tell that extra care and attention was paid when she has a hair accessory in and her makeup on. They know just what she likes. My mom enjoys all the activities and has a group of friends that get together almost every day to chat. Back at home my mom would spend most of her days just watching television. Even during the pandemic, they still managed to provide safe activities and opportunities for social engagement. I felt safe keeping my mother there during covid knowing they were keeping everything sanitized and following all covid guidelines. I can't say enough good things! My 91 year old mother needed memory and continence care so we moved her to Sungarden Terrace last November. Melissa helped us at every step including a referral to Patriot Angels for VA benefits. We are so happy we made the move. No covid 19 illnesses because they do an excellent job of cleaning and screening staff. My parents will have lived here 5 years as of October. My mother has dementia and is in memory care and my father is in assisted living. But they can be together whenever my dad wants. That is one of the reasons I chose Sungarden. The care here is wonderful and they have so many activities. The food is outstanding! And I am a foodie. When Ralph fell and broke his hip the surgery went well. He was moved to Windsor Manor for rehab. He got worse and the care was horrible. We moved him to Sungarden and the change was amazing! The people were great and accommodating as he declined due to vascular dementia. Can't say enough about how compassionate they are. read more

Corrupt, uncaring, and understaffed! When COVID hit, the manager Melissa, told my family that if we put my Dad on hospice care that we would be allowed in to visit my Dad. We did exactly that and even used the company that she suggested. Months later, still during COVID, she says that Dad is too much for her staff and we need to pay more for their services. Less than a week later before we could respond to her demands of more money, she tells us that he is being evicted and we have 30 days to leave!!!!! She flat out lied and manipulated our family; during a pandemic no less. I even have a voice recording of her agreeing that if we had given more money we wouldn't be getting evicted. We decided not to fight because we didn't want our Dad to be mistreated by this facility. We found a wonderful place that took care of him until the end. Sadly, he passed 4 months after leaving Sungarden. I can't help but think that the trauma and stress of uprooting a dying man, who was also a combat veteran, contributed to his quick passing. Beware of this establishment that is all about MONEY and not people. read more

My Grandpa has been at Sungarden Terrace for over two years. Since he has moved there he has been very happy. He feels as the staff treats him like family. This place does have a extended family feel. When I visited my grandpa for dinner Chef Tony made Shrimp Scampi which was delicious. My Grandpa and I had 2 BIG servings it was so good. My Grandpa is always entertained with the activities they have. He is a Vietnam Veteran. Sungarden had a Veteran "Pinning ceremony" for Memorial Day and my Grandpa was so proud and happy to have been honored. There is also a few other veterans including the Chef. My Grandpa enjoys taking with Chef Tony. They are good buddies. Everybody at Sungarden is Wonderful. My Grandpa has a good time with everybody. My family and I couldn't be happier to trust Sungarden with our Grandpa. Thank you so much Sungarden for taking care of my Grandpa. I Highly recommend this place for loved ones. My father had a very enjoyable 6 months at Sungarden Terrace. The staff is very warm and friendly. Carolyn was very helpful with the initial transition and remained available throughout his stay. Dan did a great job running a very professional group. My dad loved the food and had nothing but good things to say about everyone who helped him during his stay. My uncle became a resident slightly over a year ago, suffering from moderate dementia. The progression has become severe, and he has been placed in the dementia unit , where he is monitored 24-7. I live in Long Island , am his p.o.a.. Thankfully Jeremy and his staff have been amazing. I am updated almost daily, by jeremy or a member of his staff, when I speak to my uncle he tells me of how good the food is and that he is always kept busy. I couldn't ask for more. We loved Sungarden Terrace. My cousin was very happy there. She passed away last week. During her stay, she was very well cared for. She chose Sungarden Terrace after viewing several other facilities, based on the friendliness, cleanliness, and overall pleasant atmosphere. The minute you walk through the front doors, you are greeted with warm smiles. The administrated staff are kind and knowledgeable. They are never too busy to stop and answer any concern you may have. The meals were very good, and the dining room staff were warm, welcoming and caring. Her caregivers took good care of her. The last three months she was in the memory care enter. This area had a cheerful dining center with lot of light. The community room is freshly painted and decorated. The covered patio outside is furnished with lovely outside seating. Residents can walk around outside in a safe and secure area. One of the most appealing things about Sungarden Terrace is the size. Accommodating roughly 60 residents. It's not overcrowded. That's what we loved the best. It is a cozy place to be in. read more
