The starters were very small and not my favorite, wish we honestly just got more of the traditional salsa. Service was very nice, prices are a little high probably because of location. I got a brisket quesadilla and it was 3 mini quesadillas with pico. It was good, but definitely not great. Tasted a little dry. Recently had the opportunity to finally try Mesero for a date night with the hubby. I had been wanting to try this restaurant since seeing a brunch post on IG. It is definitely an upscale Mexican restaurant perfect for a girls night or date night. The interior is chic and the wait staff are super attentive. We ordered the Atún Ahí Nachos to share, Ribeye Fajitas and a Chile Relleno. I also ordered The Brandon cocktail. The food here is more for the American pallet and not necessarily authentic. After coming back from Cabo San Lucas all I wanted was Mole, lo and behold Yelp came through and I was recommended this new hot spot in 12South! We ordered the mole enchiladas, a margarita, horchata and couldn't have been happier (not to mention the complimentary queso, guac, and salsa trio) Not many places offer the trio complimentary so that is a huge bonus in my books! Recently gathered with a larger group for book club anniversary/celebration and commend them for their ability to accommodate larger groups in the 12S area - keep in mind if it's over 10 people there is a required spending amount, we kept it right below that. It was quite loud and the tables are long cafeteria like style, so unfortunately, did not get to talk to everyone and had a hard time hearing people around me. This restaurant sits at the intersection of 12S and Paris Ave., there are stairs leading up to the restaurant entrance. The environment and ambience is super chic and modern, I loved it! There are some long tables for groups, booths, smaller tables and a bar area with tvs, as well as, an outdoor rooftop patio. Lots of great seating options! We also appreciated the accessibility as someone in our group needed to utilize their elevator to get in. While there is expensive $17/hr paid parking lot right behind their restaurant, I parked about a 5 min walk down Paris Ave. for free on the street. The food and drinks rank high for presentation, fair in portion, but just meh in taste/flavor/quality. You are offered on the house a trio chips and salsa set, which is generous; however, I noticed myself and others only enjoying the green one. Someone in our group generously ordered a queso - it was okay. I started with their happy hour house margarita, and it was not very sweet or strong. My friend enjoyed a blackberry mocktail and loved it, snapped a pic bc it was very well presented. Unfortunately, I would not recommend or want to experience the food again, especially for the price point. I had the Asada tacos and it came with a little bowl of refried beans, purple cabbage, and stacked rice. The steak was a little too tough and fatty for me, it all lacked the flavor I was craving. When my friend, Rachel, and I stepped into Mesero on a Friday night, we thought we were in for your average drink & chatty catch-up. That's not to say our expectations weren't high, they were, there was just no way of forecasting the levels to which we were about to ascend. I arrived full (like a total noob) but I was also full-y prepared to imbibe in a frozen margarita, as is my constitutional obligation as a Girl on a Friday. Upon taking our seats at the bar, we were greeted by the most iconic bartending duo I've ever come across: Kenzie and Dave. Together, they infused our night with laughter, warmth, friendliness and tequila - an unbeatable concoction. Kenzie, a Yelp appreciator & conversational paragon, was an instant pal, while Dave provided top-tier menu consultation. I actually never even held a menu, Dave just knowledgeably rattled off all the frozen margaritas I had to choose from - each somehow topping the next in its description. I ended up with the Mexican Candy - a frozen, SPICY, margarita. It was, without a shadow of doubt, the best margarita I've ever had. Sweet & cheery in flavor with the right kick of heat throughout, I want to toast to every life event with this drink in hand. Rachel ordered a couple tacos and she kindly let me try a nibble of each, the taste thoroughly convinced me I need to come hungry next time. And believe me, there will be a next time. You know how sometimes you need your faith restored in human connection? Having lived in TX for a short stint, I have a special place in my heart for all things Tex-Mex. Nashville has no shortage of tacos, fajitas, and nachos - but I'm always excited to see a new restaurant take on this fun fusion cuisine. Mesero is located in the beautiful 12 South neighborhood, and is situated right next to the new Henry restaurant. The entrance is actually on the third floor - but there's an elevated parking structure right behind the restaurant that makes access easy-peasy. A friend and I stopped into Mesero for a weekday lunch, and got there right when they opened. They weren't too busy yet - but I have a feeling they will be as more people find out about them. Starting off with complimentary chips and dips is always a win - and Mesero serves a unique trio of salsas. We also couldn't resist an order of the Guacamole Classico, which was light and limey, with just a hint of heat. The chips are thick and tasty too - and they pass the "break test" for denser dips like guac. Our server TJ was helpful and informative - walking us through the ins and outs of Mesero's expansive menu. We each ended up selecting an option from "Las Combinaciones" - I went with one Asada Taco, one "Cremaqueso" enchilada, refried black beans, and their green rice. For around $15, this is a great value with a lot of fun ways to customize your meal! My taco was flavorful and packed full of delectable, well-cooked steak. I also quite enjoyed the green rice, which is something I haven't tried elsewhere. The enchilada was a miss for me - although the filling was tasty, the cheese sauce on top was cold upon arriving at our table. I just had a wonderful lunch here! Combo #1 (chicken mole enchilada and carne asada taco) and a house margarita. I'm always on the lookout for good mole sauce in Nashville, and this one is excellent! They also start you off with complementary guacamole, queso, and salsa with your chips. The black beans and rice were delicious as well. The rocks margarita is made with 100% agave silver El Jimador tequila (made by Herradura) and it's light and refreshing but has kick. The bartender Dave was great to chat with and explained how Mesero started in Dallas with this Nashville location being the first one outside Texas. He also shared some off menu items (chicken mole on the bone!) The manager Ole was also so friendly and helpful when I asked about reserving an area for a small event. My friends and I went to Mesero for dinner on Cinco de Mayo before we went to a concert. I had a reservation for 10 people at 6:30. While I understand that it is a holiday and this is a Mexican restaurant, we did not get seated until 7:10. The hostess was not helpful in telling us when our table would be ready and we stood waiting for a very long time, not knowing if we would even get to eat and finish in time. Keep in mind we have a concert to get to that we planned to leave for by 8:15 at the latest. It was raining and they sat us outside in a covered section, but the had our table against the wall that had a crack between the wall as the cover, and some of our party was getting sprinkled on the whole dinner. When we sat down we immediately ordered drinks and food to get out of there on time. We waited 50 minutes just to get drinks. When we asked where our drinks were, nicely, our waiter told us "we needed to wait". The response was inappropriate and rude. The food came out fine, but nothing to write home about, and most of us were full on chips by the time our food got to us an hour and some later, as that was the only thing on the table. We were late to our concert and didn't get to enjoy more than one beverage. None of the staff seemed to care either. Not even a manager came over to apologize. Our waiter also told us she would comp our drinks for the wait but did not do so when we got the bill. Vibes were low since everyone was stressed and no one told us what was going on. The Nashville foodie scene is certainly nothing to complain about. But if I'm being honest, this former Houstonian has missed the lack of authentic TexMex in Music City. But today is a new day, amigos!! Mesero is located in the vibrant 12S area, with valet parking around back at the parking garage. (Where self parking is also an option) IT IS FANTASTICO. The trio of complimentary dipping sauces and house made tortilla chips will set the tone for you. Then make sure you get a margarita. Amazing. Add a queso dip with spinach. A guacamole. And a few bacon wrapped shrimp. Then continue to your main dish... where the options are many. We chose the ribeye fajitas and the blackened salmon with vegetables. We could not have been more pleased. The staff is ever so delightful and enthusiastic. We were well cared for by District Manager Luis, Ricky, Eric, Elvis, and Ole. The chips and 3 salsas they give were quite yummy and I would order it as an appetizer, but just glad they give it to you for free ! The fajitas were good, not overly special but as expected. My wife was not a big fan of redfish bc it tasted fishy, so I traded her the fajitas. The fish was steak like in thickness, a little underdone in a couple of spots and did not have a great sear on the skin. A little work to do there on that dish. After reading so many mixed reviews, I was a little apprehensive to try this place. I was pleasantly surprised! We were seated almost immediately at 4:30 on Sunday. First of all, three interesting salsas came with homemade chips of substance and character. The most outstanding salsa was a green verde one with tomatillos, onions, cilantro, avocado, and a touch of Mexican cheese. I was thrilled to have seconds on all of that! I ordered brisket taco and a shrimp one.They came with a very fine julienned slaw and refillable beans. I first had the pinto beans and then refried black beans. My son got the chicken fajitas and added sour cream, cheese, and corn tortillas. Usually he doesn't like cooked peppers but these strips were still crispy. The service by Cassie was excellent. She was very attentive and helped us decide when we told her it was our first time there. It was my birthday and was hoping for a free dessert but they had discontinued that. Feeling badly about no complimentary dessert, Cassie presented me with a gift of more salsa and chips to take home. I read so many of the reviews here which seemed to be mixed. Some were not happy with the prices. If you look at the multitude of high end stores in the 12th avenue area, you would have to agree that the prices are average. We love THE Henry next door and we're excited for Mesero to open. We walked in and the place smelled weird like Hand sanitizer. Really strong and off putting. We sat down and were excited and the smell wasn't as strong. We sat at a table near the kitchen which was little annoying but we were fine. They brought chips and some sauces but no explanation - we asked someone and and still not really an explanation clearly of what they were --- ordered a few dishes and the food was OK at best. TRUST ME WE WANTED IT TO BE AMAZING !!! The think that we really crazy to us was that floor was carpeted and there were 3/5 people sweeping under tables - spraying cleaner on Tables talking loudly & standing around almost next to our tables. Mesero in 12th South: A New Neighborhood Favorite I took my mom to Mesero for Sunday brunch, and we had an amazing experience! The drinks were absolutely fantastic--my mom enjoyed a flight of mimosas, and Duane and I both indulged in their delicious margaritas (two each, because they were that good!). The food was just as impressive. My mom had the French toast and loved every bite. Duane tried the redfish and couldn't stop raving about it. I went with the breakfast tacos, which were flavorful and satisfying. We all became completely obsessed with their salsa pachi pachi--seriously, don't miss it! Our server, TJ, was the absolute best. We discovered* Mesero only in the past few weeks, just in time to prioritize taking family to Mesero during their holidays visits (particularly family who fly-in from major coastal cities and have little recent experience with the range of Nashville cuisine). The atmosphere is great and the hosts were ready to help us select an in- or outdoor area of the restaurant that's best for our purpose. (I went back after our first visit with the express purpose of discussing having small business events on the terrace). Terrible service and overpriced Tex-mex. Sat down and was given water before waiting 30 minutes for my waitress to come back and tell me she had forgotten about me. I ordered a doña margarita which was undrinkable, bitter like an ingredient had gone bad. I told this to my waitress and asked if I could send it back, she said yes but I was still charged for the drink at the end of the night. Speaking of when it was time to pay my bill, I had to go looking for my waitress where I found her rolling silverware in the corner. She had forgotten about me again. Food was adequate at best.
