The Messina Inn has very pretty, quiet grounds with a lovely pool. The owners are pleasant and accommodating. Rooms nicely appointed with mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. My only recommendation for improvement is that new mattresses would be a good idea. They're OK, but I felt every movement of my husband in the king size bed. read more

Before we started our wedding venue search we created a list of priorities for our wedding: on-site accommodations for our wedding party and families, an outdoor reception, and not a rustic barn, but we wanted to be submerged in nature. After looking at wedding venues all over the Austin area I quickly became discouraged and felt like I would never find something that would check all the boxes. That is until we found Messina Inn, a small family owned and operated venue tucked into the quaint town of Wimberly. From the moment you drive through the gates you are transported to an Italian countryside villa where you can spend the weekend relaxing with 32 of your closest friends and family. Each cottage and private room has a beautiful view of Cypress Creek, surrounded by trees, and the occasional deer visitor. All rooms have large private bathrooms, king sized beds, and a fireplace, which added an extra cozy touch when the temps dropped the day before our wedding. As guests arrive at your wedding they step onto a sprawling lawn with tall trees, rock wall features, and views of the creek. We felt like we were submerged in nature for 72 hours and even heard some friends calling it a fancy adult summer camp. The venue is so beautiful that when it came to decor, we found that minimal was best, as we only needed to enhance the beautiful property. After reviewing all of our photos I'm happy with our decision, there is truly not a bad photo from the whole place! We chose the all inclusive package which included full use of the venue from Friday through Sunday. This was a nice touch for our friends and family staying on-site as we did not have to worry about transportation throughout the weekend. This plan also includes having Cherri coordinate and select certain vendors for your wedding, included the florist, cake bakery, bartenders, DJ, and lighting. If you are planning a wedding you probably already know the amount of decisions you are having to make. So it was a nice touch not having to locate these extra vendors, and because they have a relationship with the venue I felt confident in their work. Whether you choose all inclusive or not, you will be required to use the in-house catering. Do not let this deter you!! Trust me!! The head chef, Jason, is a part of the family that runs Messina Inn and I have never tasted any food of his that I didn't love. Throughout your planning process you'll have the opportunity to attend 3 tastings where they prepare different selections from their menu for you to try. The options range from mouth watering pecan crusted chicken, to brisket tacos, and savory macaroni and cheese bites. Since this is a small business you can trust that there is a high level of care and attention to detail when it comes to the food being prepared for your wedding. We loved the food so much we even chose to add on their catering for our rehearsal dinner. Throughout our planning process and into the weekend of our wedding we were well taken care of by Messina Inn's staff. Cherri went above and beyond making sure that all vendors were on time and in place. She even brought breakfast to me on the morning of the wedding so that I didn't have to walk to the breakfast room in my robe and slippers and risk bumping into the groom. Throughout the reception she made sure the groom and I were taken care of with beverages. Cherri handled all the little fires that find a way to come up on wedding days, demanding family members, weather control, and last minute setup changes. Cherri wears a lot of hats when it comes to your wedding weekend and her hard work did not go unnoticed. Thanks to Messina Inn we were able to fully submerge ourselves into the wedding weekend experience with our closest loved ones. We really enjoyed staying at the Messina Inn. We were there visiting my daughter and her husband, who had a new baby. The facility is well-maintained, clean and comfortable. Cherri was wonderful and very helpful. The provided breakfast on weekends was a nice touch. It included a piece of quiche, a tiny cinnamon roll, some fresh fruit and a little pitcher of orange juice. Our room wasn't huge and didn't have a desk in it, so my husband worked "from home" at my daughter's house, which was less than two miles away, but if you need workspace, you'll need a larger room. Please note, there is no door to the bathroom. It's connected to the main room by a short hallway. We'd love it if they would install a door there, which wouldn't be that difficult or expensive to do. read more

The amenities at this place are definitely one of a kind experiences, from the deer basically being like pets so make sure to bring some nice fruit or corn to feed the little babies, the pool with beautiful waterfall and hot tub that make you feel like you are in another world of relaxation, the SAUNA which is amazing and right by the pool so you can cool right off, they also provide beach towels, sunscreen, bug spray, charcoal, wood chips, lighter fluid, they have an amazing grill, literally everything you could ever want is here! We hired the Messina Inn for our October 16th nuptials and the experience was nothing shy of amazing. It was all the personal touches from Cherri our wedding coordinator that took it over the top. For the wedding we rented all the rooms from Friday to Sunday and the prices were a true value. Our guest were able to stay there on site comfortably and not worry about traveling to an offsite a hotel. The rooms were just clean beautiful and very unique the upgraded bathrooms were gorgeous. On Saturday morning the day of the wedding we were served breakfast that wasn't a typical hotel breakfast it was homemade food. When it came down to wedding we couldn't of asked for better quality venue it was absolutely beautiful. Cherri took the time to set up everything and took care of the little details before hand. Cherri went above and beyond to accommodate us when we had to reschedule March 20, 2021. The venue is gorgeous!! My guest could stop staying how beautiful it was. My entire bridal party stay at the venue and it was so nice getting there Friday and having the rehearsal dinner and not having to leave. Everyone loved the convenience of that. All the rooms are so nice. Majority of my family is now wanting to have a family reunion there because of how nice it is! The food that they made was fantastic we did brisket and chicken tacos and coming from a family they are pit masters they were impressed with the brisket tacos! Unfortunately, my stay at the Messina Inn was the most disappointing stay I've had in a hotel or airbnb in my 40 odd years. I haven't traveled much since 2020, but prior to covid/giving birth to my first child in 2020, I traveled & stayed in hotels & airbnbs at least every 2 months on average (from New Orleans to New York to Kenya to Russia to Hungary to Austria to South Africa & France). I booked the Messina Inn La Grotta as a staycation of sorts as I currently live in Texas. I planned a trip to Sea World for my two littles, but could not find a hotel near the theme park that did not have reviews describing below average/dirty accommodations. Instead of booking those hotels, I decided to splurge on what seemed like superior accommodations over 1 hr away. I have a 3 yr old & a 1 yr old crawler/walker. I did not want them exposed to any of the things I read about in those reviews. Sadly, the La Grotta at Messina Inn was MUCH worse than any hotel I would have booked in SA. It was filthy - filthy! Driving through the gates & up to the office building for check in, I recognized immediately that the reviews on google were likely fabrications. I was not impressed with the grounds or landscaping & the pool area did not look like it was well attended/kept clean. I knew then the bathing suit & swim trunks I brought for my kids would not be used on this trip. I held out hope for the rooms themselves however. As soon as we walked in to the La Grotta, the smell of the place was overwhelming despite a plug in that had been placed at the front door. Instead of a nice clean smelling home, it smelled of an old shut up home & old well used furniture. The floors were absolutely filthy & the rugs throughout the home were unclean & contained obvious dirty spots. The main couch - also a pull out couch was old looking, dirty, torn in several spots as if from an animal & smelled like unclean bodies (I used a quilt from my car to sit on the couch). The refrigerator/counter tops had not been thoroughly cleaned or cleaned at all - while cleaning myself, I found spilled coffee grounds on the countertops & obvious spilled brown liquid in the refrigerator. The showers had foreign hair & contained mold on the tiles. The main bathroom door had a hole that the staff was aware of, but chose not to fix. I spilled a few drops of water on the kitchen floor & wiped the floor with a paper towel. The paper towel as well as my kids' socks after walking on the floor were filthy. My son's knees were also filthy after crawling on the floors. I work long hours & paid close to $700 for a two night stay...for a nice vacation for myself, best friend & my children. I left after one night. I spent less than 6 waking hours in this place that I hoped would be a place of rest for myself & my family. I found no rest & regret trusting the glowing reviews on Google. Please don't make the mistake I made. Please. Please. NOTE: I shared my concerns & disappointment with staff within a few hours of my arrival. I was offered a discount on a future stay (which I declined - I'm sorry, but I would NEVER come back to stay here - it was so very dirty!) as well as a free breakfast coupon (which I did not use - how could I trust that the food would be cooked in a clean environment & not make my children sick?!). The staff member also offered to come by to clean...which she did within minutes. I appreciate her for that; however her idea of clean is VERY different from my own. She cleaned off the dining room table (which was dirty/had foreign hair on it) & dining room chairs. She then proceeded to spray a disinfectant spray on the filthy rug in front of the couch. I know she meant well, but there is no reason anyone in this business would believe that spraying disinfectant on a dirty rug would "clean" said rug. Please put the rug in a washing machine or please take said rug somewhere to be professionally cleaned. Please clean the couch or replace it. Clean the fridge, the showers & the floors throughout the home. Don't charge 4 star prices for 1-2 star accommodations! read more

This is a horrible place to stay. The grounds are pretty, but there is no service. During "open" hours no one answers the phone. Worse, I found mold on top of the Half and Half after I questioned the breakfast assistant about the curdled cream on top of my instant decaf coffee. She said, "Oh, it's fine. I just pulled it out of the refrigerator." I flipped open the lid of the small pitcher the Half and Half was in and found mold spots on top of the cream! She nearly gave me food poisoning. We rented out the full venue for the weekend - highly suggest - for my daughter's wedding. Our experience at Messina Inn was absolutely beyond our expectations. Cherri was extremely responsive, helpful and instrumental in making my daughter's wedding everything she ever imagined it would be. The food was amazing - breakfast eggs were to die for! Cherri even prepared charcuterie boards for lunch for the ladies during the day of. For the reception, we had white wine chicken and herb crusted pork tenderloin. Our guests raved about it. The venue is gorgeous, especially for an evening reception (lights on the trees and over the open dance floor). Each of the rooms were beautiful and clean. Our guests were all very impressed. Several inquired about purchasing the robes in the rooms. Cherri even handled late night requests with promptness and grace. My daughter's fur babies were a part of the ceremony. When the beagle decided she didn't want to participate mid-ceremony, Cherri stepped in, handled it like the pro she is, and no one was the wiser. We stayed in one of the cottages, La Grotta over Easter weekend and were not super impressed. The woman at reception that checked us in did not say one word other than the amount we owed. Totally unfriendly, didn't tell us anything about our cottage or what the wifi password was or the amenities (if any) at the property. There was no info sheet in the cottage so had to call to find out wifi. The cottage reeked of weed smell and the sheets had dirt in them when we pulled back the blanket to go to bed. Did not appear to have many guests there so they obviously are not making that great of an impression on people these days. The pool and hot tub were functioning so that was a positive for the kids. read more

This review only reflects the customer service, not Messina Inn as a venue or an inn. (Sorry in advance for the lengthy review, but summing this up wouldn't do it justice.) We contacted to get quotes as a wedding venue. Our first interactions gave us the impression of extreme disorganization. We wanted quotes to use the location for a venue and weren't interested in the packages. When my fiance called, he was told that there were multiple sites at the location that could be used and that the cost varied, so we should come visit for a tour and free night stay. Upon pressing, he only got a quote for the lowest price, without elaboration on which site that pertained to. This is a really poor marketing strategy on their part because I didn't want to waste a road trip and a weekend (and their time) on a venue if it wasn't even going to be in our budget. I emailed asking for a breakdown or pamphlet, which many venues have ready and provide (especially when they have varying fee structures/tiers/etc), but received a call instead. The conversation was difficult to follow, as I was given vague ramblings about the different sites, a quote for 10 of the rooms (why they chose 10, I don't know--they have more), and only a single quote for one site. A point of absolute confusion was that I was quoted $5.38 per chair, but my fiance was told $3--I kept a spreadsheet of diligent notes on the venues we contacted (which will come in handy later). We wrote off the place because it seemed they weren't sure what they offered, didn't actually have any price points besides the packages, and straight-up gave us different numbers on chairs, which is a pretty standard offering. Fastforward to us looking back and thinking maybe we were too rash, and the location is quite pretty, so maybe we should give them a shot. Our in-person interaction was uncomfortable, borderline confrontational, and comically bad. We hadn't been given a thorough quote, but we figured that was what the tour was for, so we called and scheduled the tour with free night stay. We met Susan, who first sat down and started going over packages. I stopped her because the packages were more than 2 and 4 times what we were quoted on the phone. She then repeatedly asked who we talked to on the phone, but we couldn't remember the name for sure (and didn't have the heart to tell her that from her voice and rambling speech pattern, we were almost positive it was her). She then called her business partner, Cherri, in front of us to ask her what she told us, and neither of them could remember. As we sat there with Susan asking Cherri what she had told us, us pretty sure we had talked to Susan, and Susan asking us what we were told and that I had the wrong venue, it all felt confrontational, like I had to defend and prove that our conversation took place! I almost walked out because of how bad it was, but I ended up reading to them the phrasing I had written down in my notes from the conversation. Immediately after they heard their own words, they decided that I was indeed talking about the correct venue, and became less confrontational. To make the customer-service experience worse, when Susan took us to start the tour, she repeated, at least three times, that they don't usually do the room comp. I was still reeling from the previous exchange, so when I finally asked her to explain what she was talking about, she told us that they don't usually comp the room for the free night stay if we weren't buying the package. I awkwardly told her that we had already called that morning and left a voicemail to cancel the stay because we couldn't make it work. Had we come with packed bags, kenneled our dog, and were excited for the weekend...I can't imagine how the exchange would have proceeded. What's ridiculous is that we were offered this free "tour and one-night stay" over the phone during our conversation when we asked for quotes without a package. So they decided to change (or let's be real: make) their policy after customers show up? Throughout the tour, Susan kept making excuses that they were new to weddings, but I've toured other venues, including alternative ones that have never held a wedding before, and all were much more organized, knew who we were, were able to give us quotes, stuck to what they said, and didn't give a confrontational vibe. After all of this, Susan still wasn't able to give us any numbers because Cherri was the one that "does the weddings". So why was this tour scheduled? We went to the tour hoping we would leave with numbers, but ended up having to just email again anyway. Overall, I think the venue itself could have worked really well for us, but I couldn't trust their lack of organization for a wedding, and from Susan's lack of customer service, I didn't want to end up angry or crying on my wedding day. read more

It was an off week but judging from the facilities here, they are used to accommodating large groups, weddings, etc. Our room had a few quirks but we didn't mind, it was part of the charm. I have been in many hotels, motels internationally and can spot immediately whether the facilities and management are of competence, hospitality and quality to price relationship. The Messina Inn is located in a rural area of Texas with little to no typical infrastructure of a travel destination. Despite the quiet and laid back atmosphere on a large fenced property, where most guest are in smaller guest houses, the overall impressions is disappointing. Upon arrival, there was nobody greeting us at the reception office, we had to call for someone to show up. The procedure of paying with a credit card took 20 minutes! Seemed like the owner was not familiar or accustomed with today's technology. The room featured a tile floor everywhere which turned out quite dangerous when wet. And arriving on a foggy, humid day in November meant that everything in the room had a sheen of moisture. Despite the inefficient AC and fake fireplace, one could not reach a comfortable environment. The TV did not work (very complicated cable input and Remote controls did not operate as expected). The ridiculous coffeemaker leaked from underneath, resulting in a wet kitchen countertop, adding to the wet floor. The shower has not curtain, therefore making it impossible to keep the bathroom floor tiles dry. At least there were enough towels available. The breakfast room has the look of an uninviting gathering place, the buffet features bagels, an egg dish, coffee and yogurt. No further frills, no hot water kettle for tea, no bread, granola or anything else. When we asked for hot water for tea, we were referred to our room. Compared to other and cheaper hotels, this place is below the typical standard. The total lack of interest to make the guests feel welcome and appreciated is appalling! read more

Overall appearance, this place is very nice. We stayed in one of the wine suites for a couple of nights. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was fantastic (especially if you're taller than 6'), and everything worked well. The walls are paper thin so you hear the neighbors but overall a very nice experience. Don't bother with breakfast there on the weekends. It consists of Yoplait yogurt, cold "sausage" patties, and defrosted eggos. I mean, I got to give it to them that they bought name brand for that stuff but it was quite a disappointment even in comparison to a cheap motel continental breakfast. read more

Overall appearance was nice. But the smell was pretty bad. We were not able to receive internet because the previous occupant "stole" the router from what we were told. they didn't offer to replace it either. so any work we needed to do wasn't able to be completed. We had to go into town to do kids homework. Good luck with watching tv, not many channels especially without internet. Our coffee maker was disgusting and had mold all in it. The house was very hot when we first arrived. The towels also smelt stale like one of the other customers had posted. Our sheets were dirty and looked like they had just been made up without cleaning. When i tried to get ahold of the staff they had already left for the evening. Apparently the breakfast was not as advertised, which is a good thing because we weren't even aware they had a breakfast. The service needs definite improvement. My boyfriend had to shut the gate hard because the wind was pretty strong that day. I guess when it came back it broke a little iron piece that was probably already weathered from being exposed to the hot Texas sun day in and day out. Instead of taking into consideration the troubles we had already had with the internet (which was never fixed), sheet's, and molded coffee maker they charged our credit card $150.00. They didn't even take the time to come talk to us about it they just wanted more money. I'm assuming because the maintenance guy seen him shut it to hard and not taking into account the wind. I own my own business and sometimes things happen that are out of my control. But i will try and do whatever it takes to make sure my customers have had a great experience and make sure they know we care about their time spent with us. We know that money is not always easy to come by and we feel honored for them to be spending it with us. We did not feel this way about Messina Inn. I leave this lengthy review for you to think twice about staying here. If you don't mind things not being clean or working properly and clearly no one taking the time to fix it then this is the place for you. I can promise you that i will never tell any of my friends to consider Messina Inn. This was the 2nd time we've stayed at Messina Inn. We stayed in the Wine Suites both times. Love staying here!! Beds are very comfortable, great showers, the tap water taste great. Swimming pool is sweet to lounge by. Quiet and relaxing place to stay. If you want more activity, Wimberley is just 5 minutes away with lots of shopping, etc. We'll definitely return if we get a chance too! Will recommend others to stay here. Mary G. read more

I agree w/others that this is a beautiful place along Cypress Creek but their service needs definite improvement. Upon entering our room, it had a bad smell--I don't know if it was a lingering scent from previous guest or something in the room. It just simply didn't smell clean. I was glad for the tile floors, otherwise smell would have been worst. The bed was hard with the type of mattress that makes a squeaky noise every time you get in/out of bed. The towels were of a great thickness but again, didn't have that clean smell. They could use more towel racks on the wall or a hook behind the door--no sufficient area to hang damp towels. A single cup Cuisinart coffee maker was in the room & they did provide coffee & 12 oz ceramic cups but no bottled water. They had a nice patio on the side of our 2-suite bldg furnished with nice cushioned furniture and an outdoor fireplace, which had standing water under damp wood. I called & asked if they could clean it & they did but was told we had to provide our own wood. It wld have been nice if they had lit the fireplace as a courtesy to their guests, esp since we did have 2 cool nights. There was a quiet AC wall unit & indoor heater resembling a fireplace inside the room, which helped during the cool night (but still smelled). I was under the impression that when I booked through airbnb, it would include a nice breakfast. Instead, they hung a brown paper bag filled w/a store muffin, Tropicana OJ box, yogurt, and a tangerine. Our room did include a shared balcony w/room next door with 2 bistro wrought iron sets, no cushions. Again, this place is very nice & we stayed during off season & was pretty much vacant. We never heard from anybody in the office while there & we simply left key in room when we left. Oh, I forgot to mention that they didn't clean our room, they just half made the bed & replenished towels leaving that lingering smell. We won't be back. read more
