While pulling weeds for my landlord, these contractors tore out every single plant from my fenced pollinator patch, except for the weeds of course! I have no idea how someone saw a fenced garden bed full of wildflowers, annuals and perennials heavy with buds about to bloom, and mistakes them for weeds. All that while missing plenty of other weeds all around the building. The landlord was almost as upset as I was, and said they had a laundry list of other mistakes this company had made just in the last year. You get what you pay for, which in this case means you'll probably be paying someone else in not too long, to fix the shoddy and sloppy work these guys do. I called Messner's office to see if they could help fix the ruined garden bed or compensate me for the work I'd have to put in replacing what was destroyed. When I called, the office manager was rude, evaded responsibility, and had a real "I don't know what to tell you, these things happen, I wasn't there so don't blame me" attitude. I assume he must be related to the owner, because why else would you have such a rude and unfriendly person answering the phone? It took nearly a week to hear back from the company that they had finally decided they could help put in some plants to replace what was torn out, and then another week for me to go outside and see that their idea of "fixing" what they damaged was putting 3 teeny tiny daylilies in a 30+square foot garden bed. They look so pathetic and lonely, plopped in the middle of a bed that used to hold so many plants, that it almost feels like adding insult to injury. At this point, I'm tired of dealing with their rude office manager, I don't trust their workers to know what they're doing, and I guess I should just be glad they didn't do even more damage to the rest of my garden. If the business owner is reading this, assuming they care, please know that your people are not representing you and your business well at all. read more

We hired Messners to install edging around our house and clean up existing stuff that was already there. When we got the estimate I had some questions as to what it was exactly for and I contacted them by email and was assured it was what I was wanting. Turns out it wasn't what I thought and when I questioned them all they said was that was the contract I signed. They made no attempt to help fix the issues, we were treated very poorly and disrespectfully and they just kept repeating that we signed the contract. When we talked to the estimator he said he knew what we were asking for but he changed it to make it easier!!!!! What??? That's not what we asked for or thought we were signing, they dont care at all, just want their money. Terrible experience with a terrible company, ran by terrible people. Don't waste your time or money with them. read more

Several years ago our condo association hired Messner's to dig out the sod surrounding the trees in our development and then apply a layer of shredded mulch. We lapsed in keeping up with this improvement, and last year hired them to come back to clean up the areas and re-mulch. It looked so good that we decided to make the effort to keep up with this. So this week, a new layer of mulch was applied and it looks beautiful. The crew was very efficient and we are very pleased with the results! read more

We had two projects set up. On one there was a misunderstanding of the work to be done and there was an issue that wasn't brought up beforehand that made us change our mind and do something different. They did a nice job with the revised plan, but they charged us close to the full amount estimated for the original job (not cheap), which in my opinion was half the work. We questioned the charges, and they reduced it slightly but not enough for our satisfaction. The owner was a bit rude and condescending, but the workers themselves were nice and accommodating. The second part of the project was nicely done, but someone was home to direct the work and we believe it would not have been done according to our needs if left on their own. Providing a drawing/plan would help avoid any second-guessing. We probably would not use their services again based on our experience, but perhaps it was just an isolated incident. read more

We hired Mesner's to do landscaping after an addition was added to our house. They had to remove small trees, level out the back yard, put in a retaining wall and plant grass. They completed all of these things in a timely fashion and it looked really nice when the completed the work. After about a year now, things have settled and we started noticing some different things, like the fact that they just leveled out the back yard, but did not remove any rocks, and that they put grass seed down on those rocks and covered it up with straw. Our back yard is a gravel pit now, and the grass did not grow, so we just have a back yard full of rocks, with no grass in it. In the front yard where they removed the trees there were hostas surrounding the bases of the trees they removed. Mesner's did nothing to contain the hostas, and I now have a front yard full of hosta plants; these plants have even killed off some of our pre-existing front lawn. Initially we were really pleased with the work but it seems that they cut a bunch of corners just to get the job done. I paid a lot of money for Mesner's to make my yard look good and I will be paying even more money to fix the work that they did not even complete. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

The people who came to do our landscaping were nice. However, they didn't do a great job with weeding and the customer service of the person who gave us the bid and the general manager were less than ideal. Within a week of completion, our landscaping was covered in weeds and grass. I called Messners and fully expected them to say they'd be out to take care of it. Not the case. Instead he offered to have someone come out to give us an estimate to have them fix it. What? They wanted more money to fix what should have been taken care of in the first place? When we signed up we were told they were meticulous and all we would need to do was sit back and enjoy our landscaping. I guess weeding their work is their idea of enjoying our landscaping. I told him that the two areas we did ourselves didn't have weeds so why did theirs? I was told that it had been raining a lot and weeds are to be expected. And what??? It didn't rain on the areas we did ourselves? The general manager apologized for the misunderstanding. There was NO misunderstanding. We were told they would weed and be meticulously and that all we would need to do was sit back and enjoy their work. Weeding is not sitting back and enjoying the work. We spent a lot of money on this and are very disappointed in the results. In addition to the landscaping work we also signed up for 5 lawn treatments to the tune of $450 each. One treatment had already been completed. Because of their poor customer service we cancelled the other 4 lawn treatments this year and most assuredly won't be using them next year. We only had the front of our house landscaped this year with the intent of having the back yard done next year. They said that the Roundup treatment for the weeds would only be around $100. Wouldn't you think that to keep a customer and maintain their future business ($1,800 this year plus $2,200 in lawn treatments next year and $3,000 landscaping next year) that they would have come out and done the $100 in Roundup at their cost? Nope. They opted to lose our business instead. read more
