Hands down, best experience i've had in a group fitness environment. I did the trial this morning in Central Park. The class size was small enough that with three trainers they were able to give each participant enough attention to make sure we were each doing the exercise correctly. I am an athletic person to begin with but still found the class as challenging as i wanted it to be. The levels of athleticism varied widely but each person could do all exercises at their level and challenged each of us. The instructors were great! Really helpful, encouraging, and upbeat. The prices are too far on the expensive side for me but the trial session gave me some great ideas for exercises to do on my own. Would definitely sign up if i could! read more

First I have to start off by saying, I have had the worst experience with trainers in the past and have had to change gyms because I always felt pressured to continue the relationship. That being said, I am not saying all trainers at gyms like NYSC and Crunch are bad, but I decided to look elsewhere for a trainer...a place where if we did not get along, I could make a nice clean break with no hard feelings...plus I am running out of gyms to join and I really like 24 Hour Fitness. So I tried Method Fitness because it is right near my office here in the city and they train out of the Hilton Hotel on 6th Ave. I spoke to the owner about what my goals were and what type of problems I have had with trainers in the past and what I was looking for in a trainer and we scheduled a free hour session. Enter...my trainer...love him, he is absolutely perfect for my personality (think ADD on crack, me not him). He pushes me even when I am tired but listens to me if I am in real pain. He can tell the diff between real issues and me being lazy. He changes up our workout so I do not get bored and he is really invested in getting you healthy and not just showing up because it pays the bills. He wants clients who are committed and feels gratification in getting us to our goals. Oh and he isn't one of those fit freaks who harps on your diet, etc. He gives advice here and there but does not lecture me for binge drinking on the weekends as long as I put in the hours at the gym to offset said binge drinking. I have only trained with him so I cannot attest to the other trainers but I look around and see them with their clients. Some of them look good, others eh but it could also be the clients they are with and what they want. Hard to tell. For the most part though, the trainers are all really friendly and not creepy at all and seem to know what they are doing. It is just the matter of finding one that fits you and it may take a couple tries. The gym is not huge but it is not very crowded and there is never a wait for machines or equipment. Also you can work out at the gym whenever you want even if you are not meeting with your trainer that day. No extra charge. The people who work there are the best. Really friendly and helpful. I have been there since I think June and will be there as long as I have a job and my trainer is there. My advice is to just find a trainer here that you get along with. I have seen clients test out a few to find one that fits and it is that relaxed of an atmosphere that you do not feel uncomfortable doing that. read more

Also helped me avoid the high cost of a monthly gym since I can augment my training with Method with the gym in my building or by exercising in Central Park. The Method Fitness team's training program is a pleasure to be in, and it gets results. I had tried previous trainers through my gym that were random and didn't pay close attention to me personally, and it was frustrating not only because the results weren't great but also because you want to get your money's worth. These guys are the real deal. Plus, they perform extensive measurements and then re-measure you periodically so you can monitor your results, and they give you a Web site to monitor your nutrition. Method Fitness was just - eh. Our trainer took us to a very public, very concrete part of central park on a hot day. We were situated on a public walkway and so tourists were taking pictures of us. The trainer breezed through instruction on some fairly complicated moves, so there was a lot of confusion. Because the class was so large, he wasn't able to give any individual attention. He also lost track of time and warmed us down and stopped class 10 minutes early. It was an ok workout, but I think there are other ways to get a better, deeper, more consistent workout. I will say that there are other trainers and perhaps better scenarios than the one I experienced. I had a Groupon for 5 classes but after that experience I decided to just cut my losses. read more

I found Method on Yelp and decided to use them for a very specific purpose. I've never really been 'fit / in shape' or belonged to a gym so I decided to see what a personal trainer could do with me within a fixed period of time. I was hoping that I'd be so impressed with the results that it would incent me to continue the exercises on my own. I specifically told them that I wanted them to come up with an exercise regimen using readily-available items (small free weights, jump rope, floor exercises where you use natural body resistance/weight, etc.) so that I could easily duplicate it at home. First off, it's a bit confusing when you first contact them, as they currently work out of a gym located in a hotel. There's no sign however in the gym mentioning Method Fitness and even when I asked someone who worked in the hotel where Method Fitness was, they had no idea what I was talking about. I was afraid there might be some kind of scam or a little something on the side going on and that I might not get exactly what I was paying for but thankfully that was not the case. The trainers really came through and gave me a good workout. Now to the specifics: I worked with two different trainers due to scheduling issues. Both were very dependable regarding showing up and spending the allotted time with me and one trainer in particular was very diligent about working me to my maximum. However, I couldn't help but feel like their focus was more on quantity versus quality. What I mean by that is....I didn't get the sense there was as much concern over making sure I wasn't overdoing it, or that I was doing things properly. There was one type of exercise where I was to hold small free weights and lift my arms in certain ways while pressing back on my shoulderblades. I sometimes have issues with my upper back and neck, and as I did some of these exercises sometimes it just didn't feel right to me...I felt like I might be pinching some nerves. So at those times I'd stop doing the exercise and shake my neck out a bit and not once did they ever say 'hey, I see you're shaking your neck out...that you do this alot...is everything feeling ok with your neck?' So my point is, I think anyone going to them needs to be very cogniscent of the fact that they may not stop you from overdoing it....until it's too late... and that at least from what I saw there, it's important that you have good body awareness,know when something doesn't feel right, and that you aren't so concerned about ego that you won't just stop and say you can't do the exercise anymore. The trainers seems to work off a pre-determined set of exercises, as they work off a chart and tick things off as you do them. Naturally in my instance (because of the specifications I gave them regarding my workout) there were likely some exercises on the chart that I never did (cuz they were done with a nautilus machine or something) and there were likely other exercises NOT on their charts (but that they knew from their heads or elsewhere) that they DID have me do. I also got the sense that they all subscribe there to a very specific diet regimen. Not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, but I got the sense that they are almost told exactly what type of diet to suggest to you, including recommendations for a certain book to read, and even a meal-delivery option available from this same book author (who's also from the NYC area). On the surface it seemed like a sales-pitch to me....someone who's a friend of a friend perhaps at Method...so my instinct was to brush it off. But then I did my own research, and it seemed many people DID have very good things to say about the food-delivery service and the quality of the food. So maybe they are on to something there. I've never been a personal trainer before but I thought it was pretty pricey but then...I think that's the norm with personal trainers. Anyway, all in all for my purposes, they fit the bill. I learned some at-home exercises that I didn't know before, and I did see a change in my physique which I'm hoping will incent me to continue the program at home. (I have already been doing some of the exercises in my apartment, so that's a good sign!) And I DO intend to read the book they'd recommended to me. I figure it can't hurt.... read more

I have had an excellent experience with Method Fitness. This was the first personal trainer I ever worked with. When I decided to get serious about my health and fitness, I knew I had to go all in or it wouldn't work for me. This absolutely worked for me! In two months I lost 20lbs and I've maintained that loss for three months. I can now run a 10k and I have a sustainable fitness routine that I enjoy that includes both cardio and strength training. The trainer I work with (David) is knowledgeable, punctual, consistent, knows how to motivate me, and has an easy going personality. He told me on the first visit that if I did what he said then I would reach my goals. He was right! One of the things I really like is that he pushes me to go further than I think I can go without injuring me. I never walk out of a workout thinking that I was pushed too far. I usually walk out feeling proud that I was able to work as hard as I did. Method Fitness utilizes the gym in Sheraton New York Hotel, which is clean and easily accessible by subway. It has rarely been crowded when I've been there and it has everything one needs for a workout. A lot of the exercises I've learned require minimal equipment and can be done at home or in a small gym. Using your own body weight is very effective! Overall, I am very happy with Method Fitness. I highly recommend it. I got the results I wanted and it was worth every penny. read more

I joined the Method Fitness personal training program last year and it's great. I have used other personal training programs in the past but was never happy with the trainer or the program. I have been working with David, the owner of Method Fitness, for over 7 months now. We meet twice a week at a very convenient mid-town location. The results are amazing. My body fat has dropped to just below 8% and my BMI is about 17%. I have gained thickness and definition on my arms and I finally have an eight pack, yes, an eight pack, not a six pack.
