This is our second time visiting this restaurant and each time we really enjoyed ourselves. The Chicken and Waffles are really good, and my son devoured the kids mac and cheese meal with a side of fruit both times, as well. They have a vast amount of breakfast options, so if you're an omelette lover, this is the place for you, if you like shredded hash browns, come here, if you like shrimp and grits, you're in for a treat! My sister ordered the shrimp and grits. It's a nice twist to a southern classic. The cheese grits and shrimp are in a breaded and fried encasing. Very interesting and tasty. I ordered the spicy honey chicken biscuit. It wasn't spicy at all, but very tasty! The chicken tender is nice and crunchy. The honey on it is a nice, sweet addition. The biscuit was hot and fresh. It was perfectly soft and all around amazing. I also ordered a side of hash browns. They come thinly shredded and not too greasy. I normally prefer my hash browns with onions and bell peppers, but they were still good. Also, you may want to add your name to the waitlist through the yelp app or call ahead, because it was very busy on the Sunday morning that I went. Wow this place is great!! Located in greenbrier supper close to the mall on Volvo pkwy. The outside is nice walking in I was surprised of the size. I thought table space was more. They told us a 20 minute wait. We didn't even wait more than 8 minutes and we had a text saying our table was ready. We ordered a kids meal grilled cheese $4.99. Definitely flavor the bread was delicious. A kids chicken tenders $4.99. They come with two big tenders! Good flavor not dry at all! A spicy honey chicken sandwich $9.99. It was huge and absolutely delicious!! It had two chicken pieces. The sauce is very good not spicy so much but very good. The breakfast burger $11.99. So, I was referred to this establishment by like 6 people. I was told the fried chicken is the best. So I ordered it to go. I arrived at the instructed time, had to wait 20 extra minutes. No worries, I wanted hot fried chicken. The waitress/hostess totally ignored me when I came in and stood at the counter looking around. So, I got my food. Now, I do live 30 minutes away, so I knew the food would not be piping hot when I got home. No worries, air fryer to the rescue. Well, this chicken was bland, the green beans tasted like they came right out of the freezer, and also no flavor whatsoever. And the brainiac who packed the food placed my biscuit in into the container with green beans. Can you say soggy biscuit. Well, life got in the way and I went on with my life. I mentioned to one of the people who recommended them and told her about my experience. She said I should call. I did and Jackson, store manager, I suppose, told me he was sorry, made a bunch of excuses about why the food was bad and basically told me sorry. The food was absolutely delicious. It's a popular joint because the wait was 25 minutes. I'm so happy they were opened because all the other breakfast places closed at noon today. Yes I realize it's a holiday but we got lucky because we ended up finding this little gem. I had the corned beef and hash, one pancake, potatoes, English muffin and bacon. My niece had the Belgium waffle with strawberries and blueberries. It was big. My husband had two scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausage biscuits and gravy and hash browns. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant. They give military discounts. In fact they have these plate looking things with all the branches. I couldn't see if it was a clock or whatever but it was nice. I ate around noon and it's 6:30 and I'm still full. Think I'll have a small salad for dinner. Metro Diner, I love this place. Recently we stopped in for lunch with the kids. They never disappoint. As you can see from the menu they have quite a bit to choose from. I've had the chicken pot pie, Iron City Meatloaf and Western Omelettes numerous times. Coffee is good here too. It's a small diner and usually quite busy. Nice to enjoy a good meal. Was so looking forward to eating lunch here today. I ordered the chicken tender platter and my husband ordered the fish and chips platter. I was literally shocked when the waitress put the food down in front of us. Both platters the fish and chicken were way over fried. My husband's fish didn't even look like fish and was flat as a piece of cardboard. My chicken tenders were hard around the edges and over fried with grease. The French fries were brown and not golden which made me think they had been fried over several times. If I had been the waitress bringing plates to people I would have been embarrassed and I certainly would have said something to the cook to redo them. I began tearing all the overcooked breading from the chicken and placed the inedible fries to a different plate. Our waitress finally came to the table and I told her how overly fried all the food was. She was apologetic and offered to get me a new plate. I declined but realized afterward we were still paying for these horrible looking plates and I should have asked for a fresh plate. Today was a horrible experience. I'm hoping the cook gets some training on plates need to look appealing. When sending food out that looks absolute disgusting is a reflection of the restaurant. Breakfast this morning and it was a good one. I'm eating a lot of omelets on my keto diet as they're perfect for me. No carbs, lots of proteins. Most places do the "flat" omelets. Basically, pour the eggs out on the griddle and then fold the ingredients up inside it. That's okay. But not at Metro. Metro did the fluffy and tall "baked" omelet and it was delicious. Really enjoyed their take on Western. No home fries or toast for me (keto means no carbs), but sliced tomatoes and a side of sausage links. Metro Diner is one of my favorite spots. Especially during the events of 2020 & 2021. What I'd like to sing the praises of today is their delivery. While working from home over the last year I've ordered from Metro Diner at least half a dozen times for lunch. Not only is the food expertly prepared but it's also exceptionally packaged for delivery from my experiences. Metro Diner uses a ventilated container that keeps the food from turning soggy while it's out for delivery. I've ordered both burgers and club sandwiches that have arrived perfectly No soggy bread, buns or fries. So Kudo's to Metro Diner. Keep up the good work! read more

Sometimes I'm really skeptical of diners because it can be good or real bad, seems there's no in between. Well I can say this place is very good! Both times I went (on a weekday and Saturday morning) there was a bit of a wait. This gave me an opportunity to look over the menu so I will know what I want as soon as I get seated. So far I've had their chicken and waffles, crab cake Benedict, pancakes and here are my thoughts: Chicken and Waffle: waffle was fluffy and huge with a hint of sweetness. It came with 4 pieces of chicken; wing, leg, breast and thigh! Wow! They're definitely not stingy here. Seasoned well with a great crunch! The strawberry butter that comes with this breakfast is so good with pieces of strawberries- yum. And the special sauce to dip or pour over is a concoction of hot syrup and hot sauce made at the table. Crab cake Benedict: real crab meat. I believe they use the claw meat. Very flavorful and the English muffin was nicely toasted. I opted for fried egg instead of poached. Pancakes and Eggs: Nice size pancakes. Eggs cooked well, not dry or runny. They serve breakfast all day but also serve lunch in the morning hours as well. So I have to check their lunch menu to see if I can bring this review to a 5 star! read more

I went here with a few coworkers because we were seeing how the food and service would be. It didn't disappoint. Even though it was pretty busy, we still got our orders on time and without any incidents. I would say this is a place to satisfy your comfort food cravings, but there are still new things to try. I tried the huevos rancheros but they were nachos, which wasn't what I expected but it was amazing! The portions are also freaking massive so come in with an empty stomach or share so that nothing goes to waste. Or, take some home. Whatever floats your boat. read more

3 1/2 stars This is my second time eating at Metro Diner and first time in this location. I have been to their Suffolk location and I was very impressed. When my coworker suggested to go to this location for our brunch, I didn't even think twice and said yes right away. Coming in, I immediately noticed that this location is smaller, however more crowded than the Suffolk. We have to wait a little bit longer since we are a party of seven. Every thing was going so well, until our server spilled the whole tray full of water glasses on one of my coworker. The first thing I noticed was how fast they responded and I was impressed on how many people cleaned the mess. It was a team effort. Four of us ordered chicken and waffles, the other two ordered the cinnamon pancakes, and the last ordered Belgian waffles. The first 2 chicken & waffles came in first then the Belgian waffles and cinnamon pancakes. In the end, we were missing 2 more chicken & waffles. The server brought an extra cinnamon pancakes which was definitely not ordered, since we only got 2 pancakes. We think that our server put the wrong order, and she said that it will be around 20 minute wait for the last pancake. In the end, they brought out the last chicken and waffles within 5-10 minutes since they told us of the mistake, which was really fast. As for the food, my coworkers loved the Belgian waffles and Cinnamon pancake. I enjoyed my chicken & waffles, especially the strawberry butter, however I noticed that the chicken was a overcooked and darker brown. Another sever offered to get us a sweet and spicy sauce. She made it on our table, which was really nice of her, but I was not a fan of the sauce. Towards the end of our meal, we can tell that our server was not giving us a good service anymore. She was doing well, until she spilled the water and the mixup on the order, I can tell that she gave up. The last mishap was when the manager told my coworker that his food will be free because our server spilled water on him. At the end, our server gave him a bill with the 2 cinnamon pancake and his drink. We were not happy about it because of two things. First, they shouldn't bill him for the extra pancake because it was given to him because of a mistake and second, the manager already told him that his meal will be free. After telling the server the problem, my coworker ended up paying $4 for his juice. Overall, I was not impressed with our server's service. She could have made the experience better after the water and the food mishap, but instead she didn't redeemed herself. This Metro Diner is located along Volvo Parkway just past the intersection with Eden Way when coming from Virginia Beach. You'll want to enter at the second entrance as the first entrance only gets you to the Einstein Brothers side of the shopping area. There is ample parking available. I had passed through before the place opened and was looking forward to it. I have been to Metro Diner before they opened locally. I had been to one in Saint Augustine, FL in 2016 on the way back home from a cruise. That one was such a great experience, to the point that after I got home, I wrote them saying they should come up to the Hampton Roads area. Fast forward a few years and they are finally here. I have been here now a few times. My first visit was for dinner on November 10, 2018 and a subsequent visit on November 18, 2018 for breakfast. For both visits, it was busy, but we were immediately seated. Service was excellent on both visits, with the servers coming to the table very quickly after being seated as well as during the meal to check to make sure everything was to our liking. With the first visit being dinner, I went with the Hot Turkey Plate. This entree comes with mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, a baguette, and vegetables. I substituted the vegetables for a different side as they weren't the kind I liked. The food came out hot and quick. The portion sizes are also larger than what I have gotten for similar items at other restaurants in the area. Just like the prior visit in FL, the food was exceptionally good and done just right. The next visit would be about a week later, but for breakfast this time. For this visit, I went with the Croissant French Toast breakfast entree. Bacon and eggs are not included, so I did order them separately to go with the entree. Once again, the food came out about ten minutes later and came out fresh and hot. The Croissant French Toast was larger than I thought it would be, but was exceptionally good. The eggs and bacon came out fresh and hot as well. This was another overall excellent meal here. Overall, this is a great place to come for any meal. The food and service are exceptional. There is some outdoor seating available as well when the weather is better too. I even asked if they would be bringing one to Virginia Beach as well, and they did say they do plan to do so. This is absolutely one of my favorite places to come now that they are in the area. If you are looking for something new, visiting the area, or the like and your travels take you this way, be sure to check this place out. read more

You know it's good when you want to order everything on the menu. Got the avocado toast with poached eggs and it was perfect diced and only lightly smashed avocado. I visited Metro Diner in Chesapeake, VA this morning at 9:30. I frequent this restaurant for breakfast approximately 4 x a month. I occasionally sit at the counter, after eating, I occasionally buy donuts maybe 4 x a year from Dunkin Donuts for the kitchen staff. I'm a disabled Veteran requiring disabled parking. There are 3 disabled parking spots, 2 in front of and 1 in back of the restaurant. The front 2 were occupied, I knew about the back disabled parking spot. I found this spot occupied by a car with no disabled plates or mirror placard hanger. There is an employee who consistently parks in the handicap parking spot in back of the restaurant. It is clearly marked with blue lines and large blue facsimile wheel chair painted on the spot showing that it is for people with disabilities. When I entered the restaurant to eat, I inquired with the staff about the car parked illegally and asked if the staff member could move the car because it's illegally parked. This spot is for disabled people like myself who find it extremely difficult to walk more than 20 steps. I was told the spot is not marked for handicap parking because there is no metal sign. I explained although the sign is missing, it's clearly marked with freshly blue painted lines. Then I was told by the said employee, they park there all the time and that the manager stated it was OK. I explained, it's not OK and I would notify the police. Then a lower staff manager walked up to me stating the the store manager said it was OK and asked me to leave and they said they have a right to serve or not serve anyone they choose. I returned to my car to phone the police to report the parking violation. I'm tired of people parking in disabled parking spots to where they feel they can break the law without consequences. I'm experiencing this more and more often where people are disregarding handicap people. I need to park in these spaces due to my military disability injury from Operation Iraqi Freedom. My impression is this behavior shows the true character of the management at this restaurant. How can management discriminate against a disabled Veteran because I simply asked them to move the car so I can park in handicapped parking space. This allows me fewer steps to the restaurant, when every step makes a huge difference in my life. I was told by one of the managers that the store manager said it was OK for his employee to park there. I then stated maybe I should call the police to decide if this is in violation of the law. This is when the manager told me they would not serve me. I find this totally unacceptable to discriminate against a disabled person because I asked them to move their car. I then departed the restaurant to my car and called the police, to discuss this issue and perhaps ticket this car. BTW, there are many non disabled parking spots next to the reserved handicapped parking.This is why I rated them 1 star. Again, He said yeah we have the right to not serve anyone we want. I have trouble walking distances and require disabled parking and need the extra room to accommodate my VA provided electric scooter. As I was waiting for the police officer to arrive, the employee moved her car. Question, if she truly felt she was correct and could legally park there, why would she move her car when she knew the police would be showing up at the site. I believe the answer is simple, she knew she was wrong and didn't want an expensive ticket. She could have been nice to me, being accommodating and moved her car when I first asked. All of the aftermath could have been prevented with no call to the police and me not being discriminated against as a disabled Veteran. I'm not so sure I won't seek legal advice for being discriminated against. This all was preventable! The causal factor for this poor decision for the employee not to move her car lies with the store manager who told them it was OK for her to occupy this disabled parking space when clearly he has no legal authority to override the law governing handy cap parking. They should never discriminate against a disabled veteran or anyone who is disabled. read more
