This is hands down a worth the wait breakfast and everything diner. We waited about 20 minutes on a Monday at 10:30 am for a table. As we walked to our table, my eyes wondered to plates full of yummy breakfast delights. The sausage gravy, biscuits, eggs and hash browns caught my taste buds. The portion I saw was huge! When it was my turn to order I asked for a half portion of biscuits n gravy eggs over easy, crispy hash browns. The meal was perfect! Salty sweet, crispy runny, and still a huge portion. Happened to see a billboard for this place whilst passing through on the highway. So glad we stopped in. Staff was not only friendly but funny and peppy which worked perfectly because hey also weren't over bearing or to in your face. Really fun atmosphere too. They were decorated for Christmas (although it is thanksgiving week at the time of writing this) but the fact that they made the effort is cool for me. We got the thanksgiving waffle special they had. It was basically a waffle made out of stuffing then covered in mashed potatoes, gravy, and turkey with a side of cranberry sauce. It was amazing. Even better than what you could imagine it would be. I expected it to be good and it was great. Cannot recommend it enough if you like thanksgiving meals. I got the pittsburgh sandwich they had which is basically a take on the primantis sandwiches I'm familiar with being from pittsburgh myself. Basically pastrami, provolone, coleslaw, fries, and an egg on thick bread. It was delicious. The only hang up is the bread not being perfect, a little thicker and drier than what I'm used to from my hometown. Still, for the uninitiated this is a pretty great take on a classic. Got a side of Mac and cheese because the wife (just got married, still crazy to write that!) is a huge fan. Was not disappointed. It was actually pretty creamy and cheesy which is a far cry from other mac and cheese...s I've had at places like this. For the two of us it was about $25, no drinks. For the quality of the food and experience, I'm thinking this was well worth the price. Although we do not live even remotely close I can see us stopping by again as we drive through the area on our many road trips. If you do live here there is no reason not to visit this place. I've always really loved the metro diner but today I tried something different & ordered the shepherds pie. It didn't taste bad but I'm pretty sure they used the meatloaf for the meat, just chopped it up some & tossed it into a container then stuck some veggies, cheese & mash potatoes on top. It looked awful but like I said it didn't taste bad, it wasn't great either, though. It was just hard to keep eating when it looked so bad with huge chunks of meatloaf in it. I've really enjoyed their roast beef plate, French dip, club sandwich, & the Monte Cristo sandwich but I think they removed the Monte Cristo from the menu which disappointed me. Next time I think I'll stick with something familiar rather than try something new. read more

Wow! The Boss only eats REAL maple syrup. She called a manager over and asked if they had real maple syrup. They did not. But the manager offered to run to the grocery store to get it for The Boss so as not to disappoint her. And that's what he did. Now that's five star service! Clean. Friendly. All around good food. Loved the atmosphere. It was a random find as we were there in Jacksonville for a business dinner and needed breakfast the next morning. I ordered the metro club. I ended up taking half of it home. So good. Hubs got the croissant French toast with bacon and eggs. So good. Definitely will be returning again. We waited 10 min the most on a rainy Saturday morning. Didn't get to sit outside but they have a lively eating space out there as well. Our waitress was amazing. Passing through town and found this awesome, authentic breakfast destination ( they serve lunch and dinner too) I had the protein breakfast with a side of grilled cheese sandwich. Both excellently prepared. The misses had a Greek omelette with cheese grits also excellent. Our server, Dawn, intuitively excellent. Didn't have to ask for Extra napkins, soda refills, etc. The owner, Scott, stopped by our table to check on things and We learned there are 45 Metro Diners nationwide! That being said, the dining experience felt local and authentic, not cookie cutter or too corporate. We will seek out more of the other 44 locations and hope to return to this one too someday! read more

I have dined at other Metro Diners in Florida and had good experiences This was not one of them. Today I ordered a Pittsburgh, their Philly Cheese Stake sandwich. The sandwich was stale as if it had been made several hours before being served to me. Cheese had melted then hardened again, roast beef slices were cold and the fries were cold and stale. THE place for breakfast in the area! There is a daily chalk board for specials so make sure to check it out. Our party opted for 2 breakfasts of huge hamburger patty, eggs, potatoes & toast. Burger patty's were seasoned and cooked perfect to order! One of us ordered the French toast platter which included eggs + bacon + potatoes and toast!! Finally, my order was a chalk board special: Southwestern omelette that was stuffed w/ sliced chorizo, black beans, onions, cumin & cheese. Served with side of hash browns & toast. Fantastic!! Coffee somehow tasted weak and bitter at the same time, OJ was watered down, and the biscuits and gravy didn't have that tasty kick that they should have. We were on vacation and familiar with the Metro Diner. The waitress, Courtney, was phenomenal! She had a great friendly personality and made the experience even better. I have ordered the nutty waffle before and it is my favorite. It wasn't on the menu here but Courtney asked the cook if he could/would make it and they did. Everyone in the family enjoyed the food. My husband had a grilled cheese he thought it was good and I had breakfast It was also good. I would typically be okay with slow service but there were not very many people in the restaurant so it didn't seem like the service should have been so slow. My first time to have avocado toast. OMG where has that been all my life and normally I don't eat tomatoes (unless they are homegrown), but I LOVED this! Francesca was our server and she was outstanding. We were in town for a wedding so we went again the next day and asked to be seated in Francesca's section. We came here for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. The dining room was full and we noticed several people waiting. I figured the wait would be too long, but we were promised a 15-minute wait. We were seated well within that time period. Typically I'm not a "dessert for breakfast" sorta person, but I was seeking comfort food to soothe my soul after leaving our youngest child at college, and I ordered the Yo Hala on the Square -- "A thick slice of challah bread stuffed with a mixture of bananas, brown sugar, cream cheese, and hazelnut syrup, prepared like French toast. Topped with a delicious blueberry strawberry compote" Usually, I find this sort of dish lacking in both filling and topping, but that was not the case here. Ample filling that stopped just short of the edges, avoiding spillage, and more than enough compote with plenty of berries. The filling was sweet, creamy and delicious with a terrific flavor balance. Of course, I had to get a side of bacon (crispy!). It came out perfectly prepared - so good. Gray had Mom's Omelette: A 3-egg omelette with chicken, Swiss cheese, asparagus, mushrooms, topped with Hollandaise sauce. Well proportioned, generous filling but he felt it was a wee bit shy on the Hollandaise, and our waitress happily brought over a small bowl upon request. His home fries were well seasoned and crisp. Everything was truly scrumptious. Friendly, attentive staff who provided quick service. The booths are roomy and colorful, but we were seated at a two top. It wasn't a tight squeeze, though, and the seats were comfy. Patio seating is available, but it was ridiculously hot and humid, so we didn't even consider that on this visit. We saw several breakfast pizzas going around, and they looked huge. Portions are definitely on the generous side here! I expect we'll be visiting the lovely city of Saint Augustine more frequently for a while, and we will certainly return to Metro Diner. And bring the kiddo next time! read more

Very disappointing after reading the reviews I had high expectations. My broccoli cedars soup was so thick my spoon wouldn't move - I couldn't eat it. My sandwich- turkey Swiss sandwich taste like the turkey was spoiled. Chicken pot pie - which was highly recommended tasted like a biscuit. Maybe breakfast is the pull for this restaurant. I saw waffles and fried chicken that someone ordered. It looked good - I will give this place another try for breakfast only because the reviews are high. But thumbs down for what we ordered. I don't understand the hype of this place. The Philly cheesesteak was pathetic until the manager stepped in and fixed it. It had a decent size bun with meat you had to hunt to see because there was so little of it. Once called over, the manager said it was the right amount of beef in the sandwich but did remake it when I said I could get a better sandwich for less at Jimmy Johns next door. The sandwich was great the second time around after it was remade with a decent amount of meat but the meat was cubbed and not chopped as a standard philly would have been. The fries were undercooked and cold. My husbands steak & blue cheese sandwich had very soggy bread. Didn't look appetizing to me at all and he said it was just ok. You may be asking why would anyone give a Diner a 5 Star review, well the food is delicious that's why! We stopped in for Brunch and got the Chicken and Waffles, it was amazeballs! You can order it regular or all tenders, which is what I did.They mix a syrup/ hot sauce that is so yummy even though it's simple it's perfect on the dish! This diner was cute, quick, and had great customer service. I went with a HUGE group of people as we were celebrating newlyweds. It seemed as though the entire wedding went to breakfast (at least 30 of the 50 guests) and so we had a large table outside. There were 2 servers taking care of us and lots of food runners. I personally didn't hear any mistakes on orders around me and our food came out very quickly. I ordered the basic two egg breakfast with home fries, sausage patties and an English muffin. My husband ordered the San Francisco Benedict and he at the entire thing saying it was delicious. I ate almost my entire plate as well. Other people ordered pancakes, waffles, avocado toast, and other popular breakfast items. Everything looked and smelled delicious and I didn't hear or have any complaints. Kudos to our servers as people arrived at different times and food was constantly being ordered and coming to the table. They were both great at making sure everyone had ordered, had refills, and enough items on the table to enjoy our food. They also managed to pre bus the table so we could enjoy our space with such a large group. I never felt as though the servers were frustrated and they maintained a great attitude. I really appreciated this as I know how difficult large parties can be for servers. I'd definitely recommend this place if you're in town looking for a yummy breakfast at a homey place. read more
