This was the worse experience I ever had with a mattress center. Now I know why I buy them online. During the entire sales process, I felt like I was talking to a used car salesman. I had to be on my highest alert. Also, I was looking at purple mattresses and they had none of the newer versions in their store so I couldn't even try them out. But OK I ended up buying a tempurpedic, at least I was able to lie on it to get a sense of its feel. Well, these are the most expensive mattresses pretty much on the planet. So I placed my order I financed it and that was pretty easy to do. I was told it would be in within the next two weeks. Meanwhile I looked through the return policy. Once again the online return policy is so much better than the in-store. It would've cost me $99 to get the mattress returned and I only had a 30 day trial. Why I continued with this transaction. I have no idea because it just got worse. Three weeks after I ordered and I still did not have the mattress so I called to cancel. I ended up speaking to a woman who didn't know anything about the order and put me in touch with the owner. The conversation was rude and one-sided in his direction. He wouldn't cancel the deal. His explanation was he had a new inventory manager who didn't know he was supposed to expedite the mattress. Their process is to hold orders in the warehouse until they have a full truckload. Who knows how long that takes. Finally it arrived. . Why wasn't that told to me at the time of purchase? So after my mattress was delivered we begin enjoying our sleep on our new mattress. I will say the product is excellent and I would recommend it to anybody. But I would never buy through a store and especially this one. They got worse from here. I thought I'd test the return policy so I read it and I filled out the paperwork online as required expecting somebody to call me as the paper stated to get the return started. When that didn't happen, I called the store and they said we can't help me. You have to go through the people that we mention in the paperwork. I told them nobody called me and they said try again and that they could not help. Well it's probably been about 90 days now and still nobody has called me. What a mess. No wonder this store has such a bad reputation here on yelp. I will never buy a mattress from this store and most likely from any other store again. I called and asked about buying a queen split box spring with delivery. The woman hurriedly told me she would have to call me back because she had a store full of customers. So I went into the store because I was really serious about getting a box spring that day. The two women at the front desk were pushing me to get a single box spring instead of a split box spring, instead of listening to what I wanted. They were condescending and gave me a bad vibe. Although I want to patronize a nice local mattress store, it won't be this one! I heard a couple next to me saying they didn't want to blow $300 on pillows, which is perfectly understandable...geez, what kind of predatory place is this?! read more

I have to say I'm highly disappointed with this place. They do stand by their products warenty however we are on our third mattress in two years due to being sold defective mattresses. They honored the warranty- after needing to take several photos and emails back and forth, and didn't offer any kind of break or sale for our trouble. They least they could have done is waive the delivery fee or thrown in a free pillow... when asked they just laughed.... not appreciated, especially after spending thousands of dollars and hours of water time. This is a review for the Metro Mattress on Erie Blvd. (I wrote another one for the one on Genessee, very different experiences!) You would think that a business based on SALES would have far more winsome sales reps, but based on my experience, that is not the case. My fiance and I walked into this establishment on a Sunday afternoon. Granted, it was about an hour from closing time, but we were in the mattress-buying business, and we wanted to get an idea of what our options were, and potentially buy one that day. As soon as we walked in, the salesmen must have thought we didn't look like the buying type (I guess we look like students?) and were total jerks. The first guy acted as if we were complete idiots ("you know it's a Sunday right?" "we have REAL mattresses here" "oh, so you're here for an education...") and weren't worth his time (he took us immediately to where the cheapest mattresses were, and then didn't say much more to us, we had to wait for his colleague to finally approach us to get an idea of details and prices). Eventually we got fed up with their attitude and left. The mattresses were great, and seemed of good value, but what do we know? We were just "there for an education," and they didn't teach us anything, except that some kindness and consideration for your customer goes a LONG way. read more

Don't Go here Ever! Period. By the end of my post, you would think twice before stepping foot into Metro Mattress. I had the most ridiculous experience of my lifetime at this store. I am a graduate student at SU and had recently moved into a new apartment. I needed a Futon and was going through various mattress stores on Erie Blvd. to get the best deal. I walked into this store and a lady approached me. She was pleasant to talk to and I clearly stated that I was a student and on a budget. I didn't want to spend much as I would be using my Futon as a secondary bed and would only need it for a couple of months. She showed me a Futon brochure with its price mentioned on it. It was way beyond my budget and I told her as much. She asked me to wait while she talked to her manager. Here is where things started getting really ugly. The manager asked me my budget. I clearly stated it. He offered me a Futon which was a $100 above it. I again mentioned him my range. He asked if that price was inclusive of taxes. I said yes that's the most I could spend and would ideally want it to be less than that. He suddenly said that they might have some deal in the warehouse. He told me he would take approval from his manager. He brought the price down exactly to my budget to the last cent. I found that weird and unethical and made me wonder what if I would have quoted a lesser number? Throughout the transaction, he was hostile and pushy. He wanted to know if I would buy it now with the reduced price. (Mind you, I hadn't even seen the futon, had no ideas how thick the mattress was and hadn't even tried it) I told him let me think about it and I asked for his business card. That's when he snapped at me. He told me that he disturbed his manager on a Sunday for me and now I was backing out. I couldn't believe my ears. I told him that I was a customer and had a right to think through my decision. He snapped again and told me the conversation was over and he saw no point in giving me his business card. I came out of the store all furious and feeling disgusted. I felt better when I read from other reviews on Yelp that I wasn't alone. Every single review speaks about a similar experience. I finally bought my futon from Syracuse Mattress and got a good deal. My advice is for customers to beware of this store and avoid it at all cost. DO NOT GO HERE: I'm an SU student and I was in the area looking for a mattress for my apartment. All I can say is I left this place hysterically crying!! The salesman greeted me when I walked into the door..seemingly friendly I was shown a few beds within my price range. I had just come from driving 5hours and was very tired and indecisive. The Beds were nothing special and I continued to call my mom asking for her advice (which by the way I was never given a moment alone on the phone) -after hanging up I was guilt tripped by him several times, he got me as far as the register when my mom spoke to him on the phone (for she was the one who would be paying) and told him I needed to leave and come back another time, HE THEN THREW MY PHONE DOWN and slid it across the counter to me, and in an aggressive tone, replied "I'm done". I left the store terribly upset when I went down the street to sleep master, LOVELY women gave me a great price and offered several times for me to think about it for a day and get back to her(which was the opposite at metro) I explained how she's the opposite of what I just dealt with (while starting to cry again to her) and she knew exactly the store and man I had come from!! She even told me a few of her own horror stories from metro, one of who the same salesman told a Mother and her daughter that if all they could afford was 500 dollars for a mattress than that was all they were worth!!!!! She even threw in a free mattress cover because of what I dealt with earlier! BOTTOM LINE DONT EVER GO TO METRO MATTRESS AND INSTEAD GO TO SLEEP MASTER!!!!! read more

I went here looking for a mattress with my boyfriend who has a large moving van. I tried several mattress which all were very over priced. The sales man was a complete character like he had to be on some kind of uppers. I told him i wanted a queen sized bed and he kept showing me beds that were twin or king ... like ... what? not only that when he finally pushed me into agreeing on a queen size bed i hated. I went outside to see if it would fit in the van, and he started saying really vulgar things to my boyfriend about me, the mattress and the van. my boyfriend texted me to just stay in the car, and he said he was going to come out and help me and we just left. The things we were saying were so sick he didn't want me to even come back into the store it was insane. I slept on the floor for a few days then bought a great mattress at sams club for like half the price. Its a great mattress. Don't go here! We went to Metro Mattress in response to 70% off sale. Two different stores and they said they had none of the sale items left. Regretfully, we still purchased a mattress. While the mattresses being removed from the upstairs apartment were queens with a one piece box spring, we were told that our box would not fit up the stairs. ("soo close")After going over budget on the mattress, we were told we'd have to spend an addition $100 on a split box. We tried to find a mismatch or floor sample with no luck. We were then told that we couldn't exchange the mattress for a full size or cheaper mattress because we had already taken delivery! UGH!!! False advertising, inconsistent sales staff, and sneaky practices - I would not recommend. read more

Went in to check some mattresses a few weeks ago. Was helped by a lady, who was knowledgeable and nice (at first). Found a good mattress that was comfortable. Asked the salesperson about the adjustable base on it. Salesperson gave me the name of it which I looked up on my phone while they were off checking some prices for me. Found the exact same mechanism and frame online brand new for about $200 (they were selling it for over $1,300). Asked about price match and she said they can't for that item. Employee then goes on about the financing deal, and she lectures me about how she is "smart" by always financing her furniture (dressers, tables, beds, etc) and paying it off after a year. Uhh yeah sure... sounds smart. Tried to negotiate the price (it was ~4k for the full set), but she said the clearance price was the lowest they could go. Asked about floor model discount - but was told that was calculated into the clearance price. She said "clearance always means floor model." Weird, I've bought clearance furniture before that wasn't floor model. Suddenly like a switch she got mad and accused me of wasting her time (1 other customer in the store, and at least 5 employees) and asked if I was serious about buying. The manager walked over, told her to go to the back, and asked me what was wrong. I told him I would love to buy, but the price needed to be lower. He repeated the same thing as the salesperson - it was clearance and couldn't be lowered. I left. Here's the catch (and the reason for my review). After visits to some other stores during the past few weeks, I decided to call in today about that "clearance" mattress to see if it was still there, and if the price got any lower (it was very comfortable). The person on the phone said "oh no that isn't a clearance item, we just got it in a few months ago". I even double checked the model # with them to confirm. Nice "sales" game they got going on over there. Already sent off a complaint to the AG's office. read more

Our sales rep and delivery team were professional, helpful, and took our needs to heart from the minute we stepped into the store through delivery of the new bed. My daily back pain is all but gone thanks to the new mattress and the interest free financing makes a huge difference. Is it weird to finance a bed? Yup. I purchased a terrible mattress from this company and had to argue why it was defective until they finally sent someone out that confirmed what I had been telling them (who actually said the same thing happened with the same mattress at a different customers house the day before). This was because I was 15-20 days over their 30 day "trial". Once I was given the ok to return the mattress, I went to the store and noticed the mattress I had purchased was no longer on sale for $900 - It was back to $1200. Thinking I was making an exchange for the mattress I purchased, I picked a different $1200 mattress - What was I thinking? I was told it would cost $300 more dollars. I promised I would be sure to let anyone that needed to buy a mattress to look elsewhere (this experience was 5 years ago). I can see from customer reviews that nothing has changed in how they do business. Do yourself a favor - go somewhere else and save yourself money and aggravation because there are actually mattress companies that take making customers happy seriously. read more

If you need a mattress, go QUICKLY to the new store in Latham - because with the way they do business, they won't be there long!! Fast talking salespeople and high pressure sales tactics... believe nothing of what you hear (and probably only a little of what you read). The "comfort exchange" promise is hollow - so who knows if the warranties and guarantees are even worth the paper they written on?!?! Hope we never have to find out... these people have been very unpleasant to deal with. Try Raymour & Flanigan or Macy's or really ANY other dealer: Since you don't pay anywhere near the over-inflated prices on Metro Mattress tags, the prices end up being the same and the ethics at other places are probably much better. Let me start off by saying that I have never written a review for a business before. Last night, I experienced such poor customer service that I feel compelled to caution others in the Syracuse area. The first thirty minutes my boyfriend and I were in the store, a woman by the name of Gina greeted us and tried to help us find the type of mattress we were looking for. This was the best part of the time spent there. She was super friendly and very informative. I understand that in her ideal world, we would have walked in and bought a $6,000 Tempur-Pedic mattress. However, as soon as we made it clear that our price range was lower, we were immediately treated differently. After twenty minutes of looking at the mattresses in our budget, a man (whose name I can't remember) was introduced to us and Gina went to go answer a phone call. She said he could help us find floor model/overstock mattresses on clearance. Suddenly, all of the more expensive mattresses were "on sale" or in our budget. This man was very rude and super forward. His first offer to us was still out of our budget. He seemed offended that we were not satisfied with his offer and that we were still looking at the other mattresses IN our budget. We didn't even like one of the mattresses he was trying to bargain. If he had listened, he would know that. We asked him a few questions regarding the mattresses and he said, "I'm not an information booth." That is never a response you want from an employee. My boyfriend then told him that this is the first place we had been to (as he had told Gina) and that we weren't going to buy a large ticket item within 1 hour of being at a store. Gina made a good point that getting a mattress is an investment, like getting a car. That being said, who would walk into the first car dealership they see and not look around at other places as well? We both did not like how pushy he was being. He then threw another offer at us (significantly lower) and told us we could have a mattress $2,000 off the ticket price and said, "You're telling me that you're not going to buy this" while laughing. To which we replied, "no." We were both so shocked with how poorly this man treated us that we didn't know what to say. He asked us if we had been to "Kevin's place" which I assume is his main competitor. Our response was again "no," but you can bet that this is where we are headed next. He bitterly told us to wait a week because "laying down on 15 different mattresses is like going to a mall and trying on 15 different perfumes." Our intention was to come back to Metro Mattress after looking around. Both of us will NEVER return to this place. That is not how you treat customers. read more

So I had a HORRIBLE experience here. My boyfriend and I went there to LOOK at mattresses--not BUY, but LOOK. And the salesmen would not let us leave for an entire hour. They showed us only the most expensive mattresses and they were SO very pushy. We just wanted to go home and think about it before we made a $2000 mattress purchase and the salesmen would NOT listen. That part is kind of understandable, I mean, some salespeople are pushier than other salespeople. Being pushy must've worked for them at some point, considering they still have their jobs. BUT We ended up leaving and eventually just not purchasing from their store, which was the best decision for the both of us, we ended up getting a much better deal for a much comfier at another mattress store. But that following week, I received a credit card in the mail from Synchrony bank (the bank a lot of the mattress places go through for their loans) that was put through in my name BY Metro Mattress. I was pissed and decided to close the account, because this account was obviously opened without my permission. Two weeks later, this morning actually, my bank alerts me that my credit score went down 60 points for closing the account! 60 points!!!! I knew it would go down a little bit, considering I was closing a credit account but it was ridiculous considering that the account was opened up WITHOUT my authorization and there was ABSOLUTELY NO BALANCE on the card. I asked the customer service rep at Synchrony bank if closing the account would affect my credit, after explaining to her several times that I did NOT give Metro Mattress ANY authorization to open this account, but she said it would not. Apparently she did not know what she was talking about.... Anyway. Now I am left with a shitty credit score just because I did not purchase a mattress from this store. I AM ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS. If I were you, I would avoid shopping at this matresss store at all costs. You can do SO much better. I would give them a 0 star rating if I could. read more

We purchased a mattress which in less than a year caved in the middle. Completely unsleepable and Metro sent a person to inspect it ( 2 weeks later). Nice guy who denoted the shabby shape however 3 weeks later we received a call from Metro who said the manufacturer would not accept the return and Metro would not accept any responsibility either. We have no recourse but to throw the mattress out, wasted over $ 1,500 dollars. Metro has lost our business. Went with my 94 year old Mom to get a mattress which she purchased at the Clay, NY store. TV ads relate that if your not completely satisfied you can exchange with no problem. Well, theres no problem but the one you exchange for of course, costs more and there is no free delivery which results in a $100.00 charge. When questioned as to the difference in the mattresses other than the firmness, the sales person went to to say coils, foam, lots of differences and unless your a mattress expert, how would the average person know.. Would I recommend Metro--absolutely not. This is not my first experience with them as I had a problem with the center of the mattress completely caving in and got a 2nd which has done the same thing. This all occurred a few years ago and you think I would have learned. Well, I have finally. I would never go back there nor recommend purchasing from them. read more

I have never in my life been pushed and taunted more by a sales person in my life. I wish I could remember his name because he was so completely and utterly rude. We were taunted and this man made us feel as if we didn't belong in the store. We were taken to the lowest priced beds and were told that we looked like we could afford them. We were held there for about an hour until the salesperson we were working with finally huffed and puffed and went in the back room exclaiming I'm done with these two. Then we were met by a woman as we were on the way out who was shoving a calculator in our faces saying we can get the prices down you two don't understand what you're missing out on. No consideration for anyone but themselves extremely PUSHY and RUDE. Ended up going to RAYMOUR and FLANIGAN where we had a wonderful experience and ended up purchasing a very nice Icomfort mattress. read more
