I've been to Penn Ave Exxon for a number of perceived issues, some which were real and some of which required a cheap fix. Regardless of the issue, they were affordable and even matched a quote I received elsewhere. They are communicative and kind, showing my dog who I often bring with me a lot of love. I will never trust this shop again . The mechanics and manager are clearly incompetent. I had my car overheat brought it in they told me I needed 1600$ in repairs to my cooling system. The manager proceeds to tell me he can get it done for 1300$ I authorize the work being as tho I live right down the street and it would be easier than taking it somewhere else . After the work was completed I asked the manager to make sure everything was once again working properly and that the engine was in good condition. The manager told me the mechanic test drove my car twice and it's was good to go and no longer overheating. I left with my car and exactly 1 day later my heat and AC stopped working and my temp gauge started to rise again and my coolent tank was bone dry. So I take it back to them the next morning tell them what's going on they raised my car and proceed to tell me there was a leak that's why my coolent was dry. My question is after doing 1300$ in work I paid out of pocket for what exactly did they fix and how could they not check for leaks with the cooling system after that's exactly what I paid for. So after they tightened some so called loose clamps and stopped the leak they reassured me my car was once again running fine . So I left thinking that was the end. Boy was I wrong exactly 2 days later I'm traveling to Pg mall and all of the sudden my temp gauge once again spikes and my car starts to overheats badly and check engine and oil light comes on. I gave these people 1300$ for them to fix absolutely nothing and as a result I had to scrap my car. Do yourself a favor and avoid this gas station shop across from the CVS . I paid 1300$ for a new radiator ,oil, and other stuff got my car back after the managers tells me his incompetent mechanics finished the job and everything is working good didn't have it back more than 3 days until it starts acting up again . Take it back right away they so called fixed the problems and 2 days later once again my car overheats and my engine is destroyed . I had to leave my car and surrender my tags after the mechanic at another shop in the area my car broke down in told me my engine was no good and the last job on the cooling system repaired by Exxon metromotors on Pennsylvania Ave was done poorly. I had to scrap my car they just wanted the 1300$ . I will never recommend this place read more

My car battery died on a rainy Christmas Eve day, and I was panicked that I wouldn't be able to drive down to see my family for Christmas. I called the guys at Exxon on Pennsylvania Avenue to see if they knew anyone who could help. Within 15 minutes, they were at my house, jumped my car, and charged me NOTHING for it. Can someone explain to me how is it that I see all these 5 stars reviews and I receive a 2 stars service? The question is...are these reviews legit? My experience at the Historic Pennsylvania Ave Exxon begins with my visit at the station earlier on 9/29/2015 spoke to the owner 'mo' explain the problem with my 2000 GMC Jimmy (SUV) if I don't drive for 2 days... The SUV won't start normal it takes up to 12 times for the vehicle to turn over. I return later left the vehicle with the manager for a diagnosis. I told him to let it sit for 2 days. Did not receive a work order. Two days later I discovered they did nothing to it. 'Mo' admit to me that they got busy and my car was not attended to. I was very upset. Yes, the owner apologize. when I arrive I let him know how I felt as a first time customer. I told him I will be doing an online review. He ('mo') got upset. I wasn't going to argue with him. I spent 72 minutes trying to get my car started to drive it off his station. not one time he show any concern that I was trying to get the car started. I went back in and told him thanks..I need a tow truck. He offered me a tow on the condition I don't do an online review. 42 minutes later the tow truck arrived. that whole weekend was ruin...my SUV now needs a jump on top of the other problem. My trusty car, which had never had major engine issues in her 12 year life, overheated without warning on the 4th of July. I got her to the shop first thing after the holiday, and they were very thorough and straightforward about the necessary repairs. They also recommended that I replace the timing belt (which was still the original)...although some might have taken that as an unnecessary up-sell, I was actually very grateful that they brought it to my attention given the age of the part, and I bit the bullet in anticipation of avoiding worse problems in the future. The repairs themselves took only a day, and they took extra care to ensure that everything was running smoothly before returning my keys. I am very happy with the service I received here. I took my 2006 Civic in for work because a local Honda dealership tried to convince me that I needed a new engine block, which would be $4,000. When I took it to Metro Motor, it turns out that I had a couple of leaks (transmission fluid and steering wheel), and needed a new CV joint. They could not have been nicer, and Dontae, the manager, was a top notch, friendly, and honest professional all the way. In fact, when I mentioned that I was thinking about getting a new car, he argued against it, saying that my car was in otherwise good shape. I had an mysterious electrical problem with my very old but loved car. Another excellent, respected service station took a preliminary look and quoted me $500-$1500 to find and fix it. Penn Exxon charged me $300 to fix it. A few days later I had them install a new muffler. There was a minor problem with it, which they quickly fixed for free. Then I thought I had an AC problem and was ready to spend money to fix it. But they cleaned out a vent or something for free and convinced me I had no AC problem. For each repair I've done, they quoted me an accurate estimate so I knew where I stood. Ron the Service Manager is a good, patient communicator. If you ask him a question, he goes and gets the answer instead of just telling you something. Note: It's good to call them after a half-day or day, instead of waiting for them to call you. Even if they say they'll call, they get busy. I really like how these guys operate and am now a loyal customer. For the record, I consider myself a reasonable, fair customer. I communicate well, am patient with stuff that takes time, and don't assume the worst. I'm willing to pay for quality, honest work. read more

Recently my vehicle wouldn't start and had it towed to Penn Ave Exxon. I was pleasantly surprised with how quickly they inspected my vehicle and knew exactly what was wrong. Turns out there was an inertia switch in my vehicle that turns the fuel pump off, the staff there explained this was a common problem in Fords and they just had to reset the switch. They only charged me the check out fee which was so nice because I know it should've been more. I appreciate the staffs honesty and will definitely be going there if I have any future vehicle problems. read more

I've only been to this facility twice, and today will be my last time ever giving my business to this location. I simply stopped by to have a light bulb replaced, and after waiting for the mechanic to finish two inspections and another light bulb replacement ahead of me; I asked him a question concerning which light bulb I should buy and he proceeded to tell me that he'd have to remove my lights in order to see which one was out. When I asked him why that would be necessary, as my first visit to this location was also for a light bulb repair, and they didn't have to remove anything but the burnt out bulb, he then told me that I was free to take my car anywhere I'd like. AND he intentionally took the customer who was behind me, ahead of me; I guess in an effort "to show me". He obviously didn't think ahead concerning his decision. I left the facility, called the manager and told him what had happened and that I won't be stopping at his location again, not even for gas. read more

Well, I have been to this gas station several times. One to check on the transmission-- the auto mechanic (not the guys who assist with putting gas into your car but the mechanics that do the actual fixing and repair of vehicles -- took my car for a drive and said I needed a new transmission which I did not need. Second was a slow leak -- and the mechanic plugged the tire which within a week went completely flat. So I went to a place that actually plugs tires (all types 50 times a day) because the mechanic did not plug it correctly at the Penn Gas station which cost $15.00 plus tax. But yesterday I came to put air in my tires THE OWNER COMPLETELY CHEWED ME OUT FOR laying my car door NOT HITTING IT but laying open driver's side car door on to his truck. There were no scratches no dents because I would not have reckless did that. But the place is completely tight coming and going!!! The owner or manager is RUDE, high temper was wrong to ask me to leave because and service me because my door touch his truck!!! They have the highest gas price on the Northeast side. And they overcharge people especially women of color. read more

Not sure where all the good reviews for this place came from... I brought my car in for a simple oil change/maintenance and ended up being charged $385 for I don't even know what. One charge was for $54 for "cabin air filters," which I know is a rip-off. In addition, since I got the car back, the brakes now squeak. And perhaps the worst part: they failed to notice that my battery had completely corroded... so much so that a month later, the corrosion had eaten through the cables and power lines. I would take it back to try and address some of this, but frankly, I'm worried they'll just do damage if I do. read more

I rely on Yelp for a lot of important decisions. Most recently to search for best oil change in DC. I'm originally from DC but for whatever reason I usually go out-of the city to Jiffy Lube. I decided I need something close and I live in N. Capitol Hill so this spot is easy for me. I dropped my car with Cezar (sp?) and he was so incredibly kind. He asked if I needed a ride but I was able to just metro home (another convenience!). I'm really apprehensive about car care. I don't normally drive I'm just waiting on my lease to run out because I don't commute anymore, and no matter how new my car is the dealership and jiffy Lube always want to tell me I need something fixed. So Cezar let me know about the free inspection and he said he thought I'd be good though with such a new car. This really touched me. The garage was slammed, but after a few hours they had me good to go. Greg was there and he was really friendly and professional. I liked how he said "I will see you in about 5000!" I like that confidence. I've never left a shop feeling better. My lease is up in 2017, but we'll definitely recommend Greg and bring my boyfriend's car in. It was something that no one else could figure out. I also needed an oil change / tune up. They not only my 2009 Toyota Avalon in top shape for the drive...AND FIXED THE BUMPING SOUND....the did all of this for a GREAT PRICE!!! Stay far away from this shop scammer's. Took my car there after a faulty thermostat my car was overheating because the mechanic said my thermostat stuck open , then the manager proceeds to tell me they did a full inspection and said I needed a new radiator a new thermostat new plugs and clamps and new oil and antifreeze . So a simple 20 thermostat job now is now being told to me will cost 1600$ , that's insane but I needed my car so I authorize the work. The manager then proceeded to tell me he could get the work done for 1300$ which seems fishy you went from 1600 to 1300 all for just a radiator thermostat and fluids. Once they completed the repair my car still overheated a day after getting my car back . So I pull over look at my antifreeze reservoir and it was absolutely bone dry. So basically I paid 1300$ for nothing. So I take my car back up there the next day and they proceeded to tell me I have a antifreeze leak because some clamps was loose. They supposedly fixed that and the manager assured me my car was ready to go. I took the car home and not even 2 days later my engine temp went up again started to overheat and this time the engine was completely destroyed. The towtruck took my car to his shop looked it over and told me whatever supposed cooling system job Exxon did was not done properly and I basically got screwed. So I had to junk my car. Luckily I don't have kids like these people so I'm able to buy another car . I would stay far away from this gas station repair shop and go to capital Hill auto service or many other reputable repair shop with trust worthy people. read more
