the guys at the penn ave exxon wear shirts that say, "a diamond in the rough" I can say from first hand experience that this is true about the guys at the the penn ave exxon. For those of us who feel like we have been lied to and taken advantage of by other mechanics and dealerships who don't care, the penn ave exxon truely is a diamond in the rough. My first experiencer with them went as follows. I took my car there because it was making a strange sound. They diagnosed the problem and said they had it fixed the next day. The next evening after work I picked up my car, paid, and drove away. I still heard the sound. I went immediately back to the exxon and asked the cashier to call Ron. He called Ron the Manager on his cell phone after business hours on his cell phone handed the phone over to me. Ron asked me how he could help me and I proceeded to panic to him over the phone that I had just spent a lot of money and my car wasn't fixed. He then in a very calm voice called me by name and said 'calm down, whatever the problem is, we'll take care of it." It turned out that they had misdiagnosed the problem. The next day they called me in and had the car ready for me. It was a completely different problem that they fixed, free of charge. In my experience, most car repair places wouldn't do that. Since then I stop by whenever im in the area to say hello. I have witnessed so many kinds of neighborhood goodwill that it is almost hard to believe. These guys close at 5, but they are always there working late, plugging tires for people, doing inspections, helping someone fill their oil. I cant tell you how many countless times someone has pulled up and said, " can you help me with bla bla bla" and they are always willing to help someone in need. And lets face it, we've all been there stranded and needing to get somewhere. the guys at the penn ave exxon are truly an asset to a community in need. And they keep us rolling because they're good people before anything else. About two years ago, I had my 2008 audi a4 towed to Penn Exxon since I live nearby and was broken down in Baltimore. The mechanic called me the next day. I expected a $$$$ estimate since the symptoms were bad. Instead the mechanic said that all the fault codes were indicative of an issue which might be covered by a recall/extended-warranty type campaign and that I should check the audi forums to see if I could get it fixed for free by Audi of America -- he even told me what I should say to them. He only charged me the minimum for the time it took to read out the error codes. Audi picked up the tab for the repair (including towing from Baltimore). It was a complicated low-pressure fuel pump/cam-follower issue. Six months later the same vehicle was mis-firing (unrelated to previous issue). I asked the mechanic to take a look. He suspected faulty ignition coils and suggested we get new coils and spark plugs. Two weeks after I had the new colls and plugs put in, the car began to misfire again. They suspected that an upgrade to the spark plugs might be needed. No charge. One week later it mis-fires again. Upgraded to original Audi coil-packs. No charge. Another month, another mis-fire! They find that one of the new Audi coils is faulty... a serial number search shows that Audi had issued a recall on these coils due to known faults. New Audi coils installed... no charge. Problem fixed. I was amazed at the level of dedication to get the job done correctly and the fact that they stood by their work, thereby refusing to charge additional fees to correct the problem (even though it was through no fault of their own). This is why I use this service station for every maintenance job.....oil changes, brakes, transmission, alignment, battery, and glass replacement. Recently my car began to overheat while driving back from North Carolina. I was a good five hours away from DC. I called Penn Exxon to see if they could help me decide my best course of action. They put me on the phone with a tech who helped me troubleshoot and figure out a way to get us back to DC (with my AC off, heat and fan on max, windows and sunroof open, 50mph) so that I could eventually take it to the dealer.... no charge! This is my first review of a business online and is well worth it. Greg and team are as good as it gets and worth taking your car in for all its needs. They are always quick, thorough and honest and will help you out in minutes when you are in a bind. Besides the normal semi-annual checks, we had two incidents that came up in the past month that Greg and his team helped us out with. The first was getting a flat tire changed on a Saturday morning. Greg called around to get a distributor to deliver the tire that morning and had his guys work on the tire as soon as it arrived to get us on the road for a planned weekend trip. My guess is most shops would tell you to wait until Monday or it may take until the end of the day...not with Greg and his team...we were on our way by 10 am. A second incident occurred when we couldn't get a visitor's vehicle to start on a Saturday afternoon. I called Greg and he personally came to our house within 15 minutes to look at the vehicle and try to jump the battery. He also looked around and under the vehicle to diagnosis. Ok, not from the DC area, my vehicle is overheating and I MUST have it serviced before heading back to Cleveland. I am now at the mercy of a repair shop that knows I MUST have my vehicle serviced. None of my coworkers could recommend a mechanic or auto repair shop in DC. I started out having my vehicle towed to one location when the EXXON shop was recommended by the towing company. The tow truck driver telephoned and spoke to Gregory who indicated he could take a look at my vehicle. Based on the assessment of the work that needed to be done, the quote for the part and labor were reasonable for the Metro Washington DC area. (I called my mechanic in Ohio for advice). The shop was/us quite busy! Gregory and his staff were professional. He was up front with the time frame and informed he would try to get me back on the road the same day (even though it was late in thr afternoon) but definitely by the next day. My vehicle was repaired to my satisfaction. I picked up my car the next afternoon. I traveled the PA mountains with no problems and arrived safely back to Cleveland! Recently bought a used BMW, on which I discovered a severely cracked intake hose days after the purchase. BMW of Towson is the worst dealership I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. The issue was clearly present when the car was bought, though the whistling noise was not heard until area temps topped 40 degrees and I could open the windows. But alas that's for another review. I purchased the $34 dollar part from BMW and needed a shop to install it. I arrived at Penn Ave Exxon at about 4:50. Despite the guys closing at 5, they took on the job that day. 10-15 minutes later, I've got the new intake hose installed. The best part is that the guys at the shop are so great that the minor repair was gratis. I will be taking my car there from now on for maintenance work. They value their customers and understand that when a customer brings in a car that they are in a bind. They go above and beyond with customer service and get the notion that a small show of good faith goes a long way toward building a loyal customer base. I recently took my 2014 Mercedes CLA to Greg and his team after I had an incident from sliding on black ice one evening. My alignment was off which made it difficult to drive straight because my steering wheel was at a 45 degree angle. I dropped my car off since my office is only a few miles away and by the time I arrived to my office, I had already received a text from Greg with pictures of what was wrong - my tie rods were bent and needed to be replaced. Having the picture was so helpful because I wouldn't have had a clue of what or where my tie rods were. Most mechanics will just TELL you what you need and you have to take their word for it, but Greg went above and beyond by showing me and this is why I trust him and his team handling my repairs. Greg ordered the parts for my car and the turn around time in getting my car back was perfect. The professionalism and expertise of Greg and his Technicians are the reasons I will continue to bring my car for future maintenance and/or repairs. Greg has been servicing my Mercedes for over 13 years now. While most Mercedes dealerships will take you to the cleaners with labor fees, Greg was always honest, only recommended services that were absolutely required versus the fluff stuff, gave me the best price and was always professional. When I heard he was leaving Mercedes and starting out on his own, of course and like many, I followed him. Let me just cut to the point...I remain a satisfied customer, my Mercedes E320 has over 230, 000 miles and still purrs like a kitten and that is because of Greg! I always hate going to the mechanic because, like many others, I don't know much about cars and I always feel like I'm getting ripped off. I took my car to a local shop in my neighborhood and they quoted me $450 for new brake pads, rotors, and tire rotation. I wanted a second opinion so I found Penn Avenue Exxon and called to get an appointment and quick estimate. When I arrived Mo, the owner, introduced him self and asked what was going on. Not only did he say they'd take care of it but he'd walk me through every step and show me the parts. After inspecting the brake pads they discovered the pads had half their life left, another 10,000 miles! He told me that I didn't need break pads or rotors. Amazing! They rotated my tires, did a quick adjustment and was on my way for less than $100 in less than one hour. Car is running great! Wow! This will be my mechanic for the rest of the time I'm here. This is, by far, THE BEST mechanic I have dealt with in the Washington, DC metro area. I've lived in DC for ten years and it is nice to have a mechanic who is literally located around the corner and I have now become friends with. I remembered my name after the first time I met him which I really appreciated, helping me to feel acknowledged and known. I've had a few things fixed on my 99 Toyota Camry here and everything has turned out well. They quickly assess the issue, sometimes have let me know on the spot, and more importantly work to get the price as low as possible for me. The last repair I had done involved the cylinders. When I left, I noticed something was still faulty; I brought it back and they immediately prioritized it and didn't charge me any extra which I greatly appreciate. I don't live in DC but I was visiting the area. I noticed my car was making a strange noise and I was afraid that it wasn't going to make the trip back home so I decided to take it to a mechanic. After searching Yelp for the best one in the area, I came across Pennsylvania Ave Exxon which had plenty of positive reviews. But I was weary of its most recent unfavorable review saying that they were "overpriced". I decided to go anyway, and boy am I glad that I went. One of the best experiences I've had at an auto shop. They gave me a free quote. Honest and upfront price. They had amazing customer service. The crew was really friendly. They explained to me exactly what was wrong with my car in a way that I could understand. They had the part installed and my car ready to go by the end of the day. I'm not even sure where to start here as Dontae and his team have been so wonderful these past two weeks, I'm not sure words will do them justice! On Memorial Day, I took my Audi to the dealership in Arlington for routine maintenance. They came back with a $10k estimate (mind you, I've had the car for under a year) and effectively said I'd be unsafe driving it. I was terrified and beyond upset that what should've been $150 visit turned into $10k and a risk to my safety. I called Dontae. He reviewed my estimate from the dealership and took the time to re-quote each line item AND walked me through what was (or wasn't) needed and why. His estimate (which came in at $3k, not $10k) ended up being LOWER in the end and he even filled my gas tank when I picked up my car. This service garage is THE BEST. Greg and the crew at Pennsylvania Avenue Exxon were simply fantastic! First my wife brought in her Mercedes C300 and Greg fixed everything necessary to get back on the road but also gave her a list of things that should be done in the not too distant future. Then last month I brought in one of my Mercedes Benz automobiles that needed to be able to pass the D.C. inspection and Greg fixed everything necessary to get through inspection and also pointed out things that would need to be addressed at a later date. I'm never taking our automobiles to any other shop again because not only was he honest but his prices were better than the so called Mercedes Benz experts on Constitution Avenue SE. After a long day at work, my car broke down in a nearby parking lot, I called this 1201 PA Ave. Exxon asking if they had a tow truck. Within about ten minutes the manager and one of his employees arrived in a pickup and jump started my car. They followed me to the Exxon in case I broke down again. Then they immediately replaced my car battery. I was on my way home in less than half an hour. They saved my night. I was expecting to have to leave my car overnight until a shop opened, but the Pennsylvania Ave Exxon exceeded my expectations. Everyone was very friendly and they quickly got me back on the road without overcharging when they easily could have given my desperation to have my car fixed. I have and will continue to recommend them for any service-from dead batteries to check engine lights. read more

I've been going to Penn Ave Exxon for years but I just dropped my car off and found out that it is is under new management/ownership. I met Greg, the Service Manager, and he was very helpful. I had a headlight out that needed a new "pigtail", hood insulation that needed to be replaced (thanks to a cold squirrel) and a standard oil change. Greg called me back a day later explaining Volvo wanted to charge nearly $300 for the hood insulation and he thought that was too much. Instead he told me to go onto Ebay and get one for half as much and they would install it for me. No trying to upsell here. Walked out happy with a free Pepsi, a fixed headlight and full lube, oil, and filter ready for Memorial Day. I'll definitely be bringing my car back...once I can find that part online. read more

I've been going to Penn Ave Exxon for years, and I couldn't be happier with them. I first went there because the dealer I normally went to was telling me I needed to fix a number of things and that the price would be $2000. Henry told me that one of the things didn't need to be fixed, and took care of the other things for a fraction of the cost. Anyway, that was over 100,000 miles ago. Henry and JJ are honest and quick. They have taken care of a number of things for me and do the regular servicing. When I take my car to them, I can be confident that they will always, as a matter of routine, look at the fluids and tires to make sure things are all okay. I no longer live in the city itself, but I go out of my way to take my car to them. read more

Ron and his staff keep it in the best running condition. Always very professional with any of my maintenance needs. All the extras count.... Honestly, I went to this Exxon station by mistake. I noticed that later when thanked my friend for sending me there. She couldn't stopped laughing. What I like about these guys , they didn't rip me off like other stations and repair shops around. They could simply convince me to replace the unit for $850, but they repair it for $165. What i liked more it was their follow up call after three days to make sure everything was alright. I was thinking to put my comments on their page right there but I decided to wait. It is now more than three months and I have no problems with my car (I don't want to jinx) and they deserved now a good review. I think they do a great job if they continue offering the same service to me to others. read more

After moving to DC last year, I had no clue where to take my car for repairs. I live not too far from Penn Exxon and decided to try them out and glad I did! Mo and his team have been awesome and so helpful. After my car stalled one night in Alexandria, I had it towed to Penn Exxon and their team was able to have it running the next morning. I thought it was the alternator but they were able to figure out it was something simple and it was fixed in no time. My car has been running fine ever since. This place is the best in customer service. Quick story: My wife's car tire had a nail on the bottom and was in dire need to get it fixed in order to get to her next class to teach. I brought it to the Exxon on Penn and they replaced the tire with the spare in 10 minutes and the rate was so cheap that I've since committed to taking my vehicles there for any repairs/oil change. Dana and his team treated me and my son first class while we waited for our vehicle to be serviced. They are quick, professional and friendly. I would recommend this station 100 percent to anybody living in the DMV for service. read more
