I called to request a cab the dispatcher said 10-20 minutes. 35 minutes later, I called the dispatcher back and informed me that a cab driver hasn't accepted the job yet. I said I really need to get to work and would of been nice if he had called me back to tell me that. I waited an additional 15 minutes to get picked up. Metro Cab - you wonder why people are moving to Uber, Lyft, Fasten you guys treat your customers like garbage/your cab drivers are sketchy and you can't be reliable for the consumer. It's super awesome when you have an ankle injury to get stood up by your cab. In the past week and half, I've tried MetroCab twice for pick-up and was stood up each time. The first time, I hobbled to the T and the second time I was able to get an Uber to my house in three minutes. These guys get two stars because over the years they have picked me up and gotten me where I needed to go. Their pick up times are pretty unpredictable and I've had a few no-shows, but on the whole they weren't much worse than any other cab company out there. That said, after my experience this morning, I will NEVER use them again. I take a cab most mornings to work (bad, I know). I have a few cab companies programmed into my phone but tend to default to Metro Cab, saved as "Cab to Airport" in my phone. This morning I called as usual, and about ten minutes later a red cab was beeping for me outside my door. He had to wait about five minutes for me as I got all my stuff together. When I walked out, another cab (a white one) was pulling in behind the red cab. The red cab was closest to me so I asked him if he was sure he was there for me, and he said yes. He even had my name. I repeat: he had my name. And he had been there waiting for me. So I got in. A few minutes later the rudest, nastiest little man calls me from Metro Cab. In the span of five minutes, he accused me probably ten times of calling two cab companies and hopping in the first one that came, even after I explained I had not done that (I never do that), and that the red cab had my name and told me he was there for me. In spite of my explanations (and initial very nice tone, I might add), he continued to repeat his accusations, with more of a piss poor attitude each time. He also said to me "what, you can't tell the difference between a red cab and Metro cab? Because there's a really big difference." Well, yeah, except the red cab driver HAD MY NAME AND KNEW TO PICK ME UP AT MY HOUSE. And I have a few cab companies in my phone, none of which are saved by what color the fucking cab is. Then, while I was asking my cab driver what happened to try to figure out the situation, the Metro guy hung up on me. In short, the retelling does not even begin to do justice to what a royal douche this guy was to me. I called back and spoke to a supervisor, who was nice and professional, though he didn't seem overly concerned that one of his dispatchers had with one phone call completely alienated one of their most regular customers with his remarkably confrontational attitude. Based on my phone number, the supervisor could see my long history of calls to them and how many times I'd used them, and that I never skipped out on them after calling them. Too bad his dispatch guy didn't have the analytical ability to look at the screen in front of him and do the same. Turns out my red cab driver is buddies with the Metro cab driver who initially got the job to pick me up. The Metro guy had an emergency, according to my cab driver, so he gave the red cab guy the job, and told him my name and where to get me. I guess that didn't get communicated to the Metro dispatcher. All this is to say I won't ever be calling them again. There's absolutely no excuse for treating a long-term, regular, very good customer with such hostility and rudeness. read more

Brutal. Live in the city but since Uber has arrived I haven't hailed a cab in quite some time. I was feeling a bit nostalgic- me and my wife decided to hail a cab. I was quickly reminded why Uber was allowed to prosper- cabs suck! The worst customer service of any industry and it really has not improved at all in recent years. My driver was rude, of course he was on his bluetooth the entire time, he did not go the proper way and my seat belt did not work which is a huge violation. When I told the driver he didn't about my seat belt he didn't even respond and when I called Metro Cab directly to complain and notify them of an obvious safety violation they told me to call back on Monday. Bottom line is cabs suck, the cab companies suck and the cab unions suck! read more

I called to get a cab; asked how long it would take and was told 5-10 minutes. 25 minutes later, still no cab. I called back and spoke to a dispatcher who sounded drunk - honestly. He kept making jokes (err... what he seemed to think were jokes) and laughing at himself and it took me several minutes to even get a straight answer about where the cab was. "He's right outside" the dispatcher eventually told me... except he wasn't, as I was sitting outside with no cab to be seen. I waited 5 more minutes, then called to cancel. After cancelling, I proceeded to receive 4 phones calls asking me where I was and telling me my cab was there (by this point, I just used Uber and had a car within 3 minutes). This company needs to SERIOUSLY get it together if they want to have a shot in hell of competing with Uber. read more

Complete waste of time - 50/50 shot a cab driver will actually pick you up if you call or book via the application. Even if a driver has been given "the work" as they call it, should someone flag them down they have a tendency to pick up that rider which essentially starts and ends the trip you booked meaning.... they're never coming to get you. This is why UBER will take over the cab industry - upstanding drivers that pick you up when you request a ride. read more

short summary: ordered a cab 15 minutes in advance, waited 50 minutes, the guy never showed and dispatchers are of no help. HORRIBLE SERVICE and VERY VERY RUDE DISPATCHERS!! AVOID AT ALL COST!!!!! long story: - When I call the place, I provide them with a specific address and where I would be standing by the mall (the specific store), the dispatcher evidently could care less and does not take down the store name - but rudely tells me back the address and hangs up. Should have been a warning sign, but I thought: "oh, may be they are so professional that they know this place and don't need my details." SILLY ME!!! - 30 minutes pass and the guy does not show up. I call back and get back to the mail dispatcher who tells me that the driver was standing in front of the place to pick me up at 2:03 but I was not there. I tell him that this is impossible because I have been waiting outside since 1:50 and never saw anyone. He says OK "I'll try to turn the guy around" - Some time passes. A woman from METRO CAB calls me and says "well the driver just drove by, I don't know why he did that" (???), but I will send him right back. - I get another phone call from the woman who says "the driver is outside," to which I respond - "he is not! I dont see him." But she does not listen - she raises her voice and screams talking over me "THE DRIVER IS OUTSIDE" and hangs up! - Nope, there is no driver, I wait for another 10 minutes, call back again and the original male dispatcher picks up and goes back to the old story that the cab waited for me for four minutes (total lie) and that's a lot for a cab. When I ask him whether I am getting a car at the end, he starts to argue with me, talks over me and acts totally rude and disrespectful. - I actually never had such a terrible experience with a cab company. Did you guys just give up at providing customer service? What's going on? read more

This cab company is fine if you flag them down or go to a cab stand. Try to call them? Forget about it. Dispatchers will tell you 5-15 minutes and you'll be waiting for a cab for 30-45+ minutes. When you call to check on the status of a cab 10 minutes past the latest time they said it'd be there, the dispatcher will rudely tell you "to wait a few minutes"....I already did. It's not like I called to ask for a cab then immediately called back to find out where it was. I can understand with traffic and rush hour, etc can be tough, but this was at 3:30pm on a Thursday that I called and asked for a cab. It's currently 4:25pm...still no cab. I'm calling to cancel and am just going to flag one down. read more

The cab NEVER came. I called at 3pm for a 4pm cab to take me to a 4:30pm doctor's appointment. At 4:10, no cab, so I called to see what was going on. After placing me on hold for almost 10 min., the woman comes back on the line and tells me she's sorry but there are NO cabs in my "area." I live in Southie. I ask if/when a cab will be in my area and she tells me doesn't know maybe 10-15 min. At this point, it's 4:25 and my appointment is in 5 min. So I hung up and booked an Uber. Waited literally two hours. I kept calling them back. The first driver needed a reminder to actually pick me up and then decided to pick someone else up instead. A second driver plain disappeared as far as I could tell. They claimed they sent a third driver, but he never showed up either. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this company. read more

One of Metro's drivers, Baba, transported my 98 year old mother (in her wheelchair) and me from Boston to her doctor's appointment in Randolph, and back, in August. It was a long ride for her but Baba did everything he could to make her feel safe and comfortable. He is a true gentleman and it was pleasant sharing the ride with him. I would rate the ride 5 stars but we had a 30 minute wait on our return. read more

You have to give one star to make a review, but they deserve negative stars. I had two awful encounters with them just today. I just had a terrifying experience with a cab. I had a voucher from my company. They are supposed to take vouchers, we have an account, and they are required to honor them. When I got home, I gave him the voucher and he instantly started SCREAMING at me in half English. He basically said I can't use it and I better give him cash and I said it's valid and that is how I am paying, and I tried to leave and he LOCKED THE DOORS on me. He then got up out of his seat and stuck his face through the divider and screamed I need to pay him, etc etc. I said he needs to call metro if he didn't want to take the voucher and told him to let me out and he said no you aren't leaving until you give me money and I said I had already paid. So finally I said I was calling the police and that really enraged him and he swore at me and said get out, finally unlocked the doors and sped away while I jumped out. I was terrified at that moment and was lucky to have my phone, otherwise I don't think he would have let me go anytime soon. Aside from this terrible experience, I have had other awful ones with them. Honestly, just yesterday I was supposed to get picked up in the morning (again using my work account) and I called them 10 minutes before they were due to arrive to confirm and she said yes, they are on their way, one mile away. I then got a call with the recording that says "your cab has arrived" but it wasn't there! I was standing outside. So I called them back and she gave me serious attitude saying it wasn't her problem and she's just telling me what was on the screen. So I had no ride to work and had to take another cab. That incident is enough for me to never use them again, but the scare with the driver locking me in and screaming means I am filing a complaint with the police. read more

SO SO SO DONE WITH THEM!!!! They were OK for a few years. Never arrived more than 5-10 min late, and only once 20 min, on a last minute call. But now I am DONE. I prescheduled an airport ride. Triple checked. Ordered a van because we have 3 kids. They said no problem. 4:15pm on a weekend, not terribly hard time either. To make a very long painful story short: The cab arrived at 4:44. 29 minutes late. We waited outside with 3 little kids (all younger than 4) for 30 min, because it was too hard to take all the luggage in and out. I called multiple times. They just ignored my number. How do I know? Because we then dialed from our other cell, and they picked up. And then the second time they didn't. Kept saying the cab is on the way, give him a couple of more minutes. Well, I now discovered Uber XL. Even for a large car, no need for taxi companies anymore. EVEN with surge pricing and XL pricing, it was still only $10 more than the cab was, AND no high blood pressure. Oh, and much nicer cars, relative to the falling apart minivan they sent me. So, we're done forever. So long metro cab. I erased you from my contacts. Nice knowing you, good luck with your business model - which is going nowhere. UberXL - I'm with you now. read more

I can't believe I have to give this joke of a cab company one star; I wish zero stars were possible. After being told that we were "all set" for a van cab, we finally called to inquire 35 minutes later. Turns out they were still "working on it", but the dispatcher offered to call and update us on the progress. Another 20 minutes later, we called to cancel and ask for 2 regular cabs instead. Our bad - we should've bailed on this terrible business at that point. Cab 1 shows up 20 minutes later; Cab 2 shows up AN HOUR LATER. All in all, we called for a cab at 615, and we were finally all en route to our destination at 745. Complete and total crap show. Never never never never never use this company. The group was finally at the restaurant, all of us, at 8:05... for our 7 pm reservation. Fail. Epic, complete, utter, total fail. No stars. read more

Worst taxi experience ever! I called to be picked up at 10pm, waited for 45 minutes, still no cab. During this time I kept calling to see what's going on and the dispatcher kept saying he's not far. I tried to explain to her that the street I'm on might be hard to find but she assured me that all cabbies are equipped with GPS. Well, when the cab finally arrived, the first thing I noticed is that there was NOT a GPS in sight. Then the cabbie had no idea where to go. I was explaining to him as we were driving along where to go but he kept missing turn-offs and making wrong turns. It was incredibly frustrating because I was exhausted after long day at work and the it made the trip go much longer, and more expensive! Bad experience, never calling them again. read more

AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL! These cab drivers are so inconsistent its crazy. I had a bunch of stuff with me and a cab picked me up on time...but then when I had to get another cab, I called in and when the cab came, he saw my stuff that I had with me, and turned around and left! JUST LIKE THAT! he didnt even explain or anything, he drove away while i was still in the window trying to talk to him..... this happened 2 more times..... like...WTF is wrong with these people. Obviously if I got a cab with the same stuff the first time, dont you think I would be able to call the same cab company to get me home with the same amount of stuff? Like what is wrong with this cab company....are there no policies? I was treated with SUCH DISRESPECT UNTIL....a third cab finally came after calling metro cab dispatcher to tell him what had happened. At least the dispatcher was friendly on the phone.... FInally I got home WITH MY STUFF, no problem. I felt like I should have been compensated somehow after being BLOWN OFF by 3 cabs...I waited almost an entire hour for a cab that would come get me after calling the dispatcher a million times.. I don't have a car so I use cabs/taxis and MBTA (and bikes) to get around. I've had only a few issues w/Metrocab over the years, but most of the time they get there on time, you get a call when they've arrived, they take credit cards, the cars are clean, & the drivers have been generally cool. Sometimes there's a wait on the phone if it's a busy night, but if you are in Boston and need to call a cab, they are pretty solid. Compared to some of the broke down looking cabs I take in Somerville, these cars are luxury transportation. Just make sure to mute that annoying backseat advertising news loop on the little screen. read more

Seriously despise this cab company, and in many years of living/visiting Boston, I have never had a good experience. From hailing to calling, nothing seems to make any sense. From a few blocks away from dispatch it can be 30 minutes for a car, but from halfway across town, it's 5. Regardless of the quote, they never show up when they say, which is the only thing they are consistent with - being late and nasty to you. If you hail one after a night out, they refuse to let you sit in the front seat, often resulting in 5 people in the back seat (totally dangerous and illegal, but they don't seem to care much). There are plenty of other cab companies, save your sanity and money and call someone else, like Green Cab! read more

In boston for the weekend. We are from out of town. We were deciding whether to take a cab or the train back to the hotel which was outside the city about a half hour. We asked the cab driver about how much would it be. He told us 40cents per half mile. According to the gps in my phone which he had to use since he had no idea how to get where we were asking him to take us, it was 21 miles. When we got to the hotel he had charged us $64. WAY OVER what we were told. When we asked him about it, he "played dumb" and could not give us any answers besides nonsense that didn't make any sense. This cab company is THE WORST in Boston. ***AVOID IT**** My family needed a taxi to go from a Boston hotel downtown to the Logan airport. Taxi companies and their employees should WANT TO earn your business, since there are so many choices for a taxi. I made 3 calls in them. It was 3 calls too many. The dispatchers are RUDE. More than one dispatcher hung up the phone on me abruptly when they didn't like what they were hearing. They make promises they don't keep about what time they'll be there. Good ending - Gave up on Metrocab, got a taxi someone else had used to get off at my hotel. CONCLUSION: This experience sucked the fun out of my last day visiting Boston. Two words come to mind about Metrocab Boston: RUDE and WORTHLESS. Believe the negative reviews. Avoid them if you want a taxi ride. read more

Metro Cab gets you where you need to go- no problem. But never on time. I've waited 30-40 minutes after being told they'd arrive in 10 minutes or less. Cabs in Boston suck as it is, but I shouldn't have to wait longer than being told or risk being late to an event just because they can't pick me up on time. I was surprised to find that MetroCab in Boston got so many negative reviews after I've had so many positive experiences. Their number is now logged in my phone in case I ever need a ride. For that matter, the MetroCab folks have my information logged as well; the operators refer to me by name and despite being brisk are relatively courteous. This isn't a restaurant I'm reviewing- it's a cab company. That being said, I'll simply give the breakdown of my experiences, which are based on way too many cab rides to count: Pros: Most of the cars are hybrid, which makes you feel slightly less guilty about throwing money at a cab fare. The estimates the dispatchers give me have been pretty accurate in the past- they will warn me if they expect the cab to be more than 20 minutes. Perhaps responding to the numerous complaints below, most of the cars are now equipped with screens and card-sliding technology, which saves me the effort of having to bail out en route to raid an ATM. The cabbies have almost always been friendly to me- with the exception of one, who was, if anything over-friendly and proceeded to talk to one of my friends about the new book he was attempting to publish about his philosophy of New Age healing. Lastly, their prices are reasonable. I've taken many a shady cab from Logan to Cambridge in the past and been charged quite a bit. These guys almost always ask me whether or not I want to take the Pike or Storrow and the fare comes out consistent each time. Lastly, I get an automated phone call when they show up outside my door, just in case I'm not within earshot/visual of the cab outside. Cons: When I first started calling this company, there were a couple times where I requested to pay by credit and a cab showed up that was cash only. (I haven't had that problem recently, for the record). On weekends it can be harder to get ahold of these people, as the lines get tied up fast during the witching hour/2:00 Boston bar-dump. That's about it, though. Despite all the negatives, I'd have to say I'm a fan. MetroCab has managed to transport my inebriated self and my inebriated friends around with as few hitches as possible- it's enough to give them three stars on Yelp and a place in my contact list. *update: en route to Logan about a week ago, the cab driver (who picked me up at 4:00 am sharp, as scheduled) gave me a wrapped chocolate chip cookie to munch on for the flight. I am so tired of cab drivers complaining about credit cards - you have to take them now, get over it. I travel for work and have to use my corporate card. It's a huge hassle for me to pay cash. The guy today asked for cash 3 times, I told him no 3 times and then he had the nerve to say "I'm not refusing it (the card)". Ugh is what I think of when I hear Metro Cab. Scheduling a cab is nearly impossible and their staff isn't always the most friendly. I've had several occasions where the cab didn't show up or they showed up and drove away too quickly for me to get outside, and proceeded to blame me even though they were early and didn't let me know they were there.
