    Amazing lunch spot

Decided to check out Metropolis Mercantile + Cafe for lunch and catch up with friends! It is a 2-level, local coffee shop with lots of mini shops/vendors inside - it is very spacious! It is also the home of Goodmans Fine Foods, where they host cooking classes every month :) I ordered an Egg Salad Sandwich, and 12 oz. Turmeric Latte for myself. My friends ordered the Beef Brisket Sandwich, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, and iced coffees. ** All sandwiches come with a side of coleslaw or olives. My friends and I really enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the beautiful latte art! The staff were also very friendly and courteous. We will definitely be back again ^^

My current favourite cafe in Newmarket. Its located on Main Street so its also a perfect date place due to the lake, shops and restaurants around. This cafe is in three parts: a cafe, lounge & store in the basement, a cafe & lounge on one side upstairs and a bakery, ham, cheese and other goods store on the other side upstairs. The cafe drinks are the same on the lower and upper levels but the food will defer. They had different baked goods each time I went. The first time I went I had a mini spicy chocolate and sour cream cake. It was SO GOOD. They also had samples of hot honey which really good as well. It gave such a good kick of spice and sweetness (expensive tho!). I also had a heartbeet latte - of course I only got it for the name and the fact that it was pink. We chilled in the lounge upstairs. It was cozy and a very cafe vibe. The second time I went I had a carrot cake and a cookie. The carrot cake was not too sweet so I absolutely loved it. The cookie was the chewy, thin type. It was also super good. I embroidered at the cafe with a friend. There were no plugs near me to charge my phone but I did notice that there was a section just for laptops and debated coming to work in the cafe one day. (Still never have since it is far enough from my house). The third time I went I got a chocolate chip cookie. The same chewiness with a crisp on the outside - it was very good. I sat downstairs this time and ran through interview question practice. Downstairs is more chatty and less of a relaxed atmosphere than upstairs - which made it a better environment this time around. All three times I went the food did not disappoint. The chocolate cake was my favourite due to the uniqueness of the spice kick. The environment is very chill with lots of places to sit. I would go back again.

Metropolis is a nice cafe in Newmarket to sit back and relax with a latte or a cup of coffee. It is one of my favourite spots to swing by and get some work done with the cafe's smooth and quiet ambiance. The lineup of pastries are quite tasty and you can't go wrong with any of them. They have options for those seeking gluten-free pastries which is an added bonus. Can't say enough that I wish they were in Scarborough!

Stepped in for a americano to go and loved the ambiance. Hip spot for hanging out and or working. On top of that GREAT coffee.

The more urban side is at the left; great barista area, excellent flat white. The back of store is more the small town side; overpriced hats and other junk you'll eventually donate to value village. I got a free drink for waiting over 15 minutes for a toasted bagel; they said they were training someone. That toaster must be a tough learn ;) I didn't care, I was patient. I was early for something, if i was running late, I might have been less patient.. moral of the story; arrive early; less stress, and more NICE possibilities.

My wife and I went on a day trip to get out of the city and we were looking for a nice cozy cafe to slow down a bit. We came across Metropolis and we decided to go. We found our way and we walked up the walkway. We were immediate shown a cozy place with guests enjoying their food and drinks with friends or with a book. These to me are good sign this place is for hanging out. We walked up to the counter, shown our vaccine passports and IDs to the employee. He was very gracious. Then we were picking our food and coffee. I asked him about the pour over coffee options that is on the menu. They serve one of my favourite coffee bean roasters, but I decided to try something else. We ended up ordering a meatball sandwich, grilled cheese and tomato soup to share along with 2 drinks. Food and drinks came out not long after. The people who served us are amazing. We finished our food, enjoyed the cozy feel of this cafe and then we went to check out the other side of the cafe, which is the local mercantile shop. They got lots of selection of local made goods and some imported goodies. The people here are very helpful and superbly friendly. We will come back again to enjoy their service and drinks when the weather is warmer. Kudos to these guys here!

As other mentioned this is not your usual kitty cafe. You get your drinks, go in and sit in what is similar to a living room. If the kitty's want to see you, they will come to you. We had an unfortunate situation where our barista forgot our drinks and snacks, but overall it was a good experience.

It is occupied by the sweetest rescue cats in need of loving homes and the cafe is staffed by friendly folks who are animal lovers too. Their furry feline friends are full of personality, some more energetic (Arlo), some more affectionate (Bailey), and some more sleepy (Mama cat Catronia). A visit here costs an admission fee to pay a visit to this feline cafe especially if you are thinking of adopting a rescue cat. Be sure to read the rules ahead of time. Don't disturb sleeping cats. Don't pick up any of the cats. Bring an extra pair of socks to wear while walking inside. The ratio of people to cats was good which made it easier for guests to get an opportunity to interact with cats that were in a playful mood. Visits are limited to 50 minutes. My timed visit was made easier since I was given a buzzer which buzzed to notify guests that their time was up. The resident fur-balls will be happy you paid them a visit. The cafe's partner is Purrfect Companions of Norfolk Cat Rescue who help rescue cats find furrever homes.

Once you're in, someone explains a bit about the rules (washing hands between the rooms, don't pick up the cats, etc). The cats are roaming free, but they have some "catio" rooms where some cats prefer isolation, or need to be isolated. There were 4 small kittens in one holding area, and I do wish they could have been given a bigger space given how active they were. Once someone goes inside to sit down, the cats have very little room to play. They also let a lot of people in at a time when there are only a few cats on the floor and multiple kept in their own rooms. It was so crowded. Kids were really loud and it felt like we didn't get a fair chance to meet most of the cats. It was a bit chaotic. We ended up spending most of our time with one single cat that everyone else was ignoring. They were also explaining that they had cats from Egypt on one side and Canada on the other side, so you have to wash your hands because they just don't know if it's safe. I think they could expand some of the catios and really control the number of people they're letting in at a time. We didn't get to meet most of the cats in the space.

POTENTIAL ADOPTERS BEWARE!! I recently adopted my cat, Orion (formally Pirate at the Cafe), from…read moreToe Beans on May 25th, by the 27th he was hospitalized for diarrhea and vomiting. While there the vets found he had gastroenteritis, an ear infection and significant weight loss. Unnoticed by me at his adoption, he was improperly vaccinated and was not protected by the mandatory vaccinations all cats should have. After informing them of Orion's hospital stay and what happened, Toe Beans made the choice to tell me that the tests/diagnostics the vet did were unnecessary and that I should've just called them if I was having concerns about Orion's health. They are NOT a veterinary clinic. They also made the choice to assume the vets were incorrect about the improper vaccinations and tried to frame that as the vets trying to get more money out of me, I confirmed with 2 different vets that Orion was incorrectly vaccinated according to the records I received at his adoption and that he would need to be restarted on the vaccination schedule. Toe Beans attempted to gaslight me about what I was told at Orion's adoption, I was told he was quarantined for "mild sneezing" but was assured it would "pass in a few day" and that it was nothing to worry about by the employee assisting in his adoption. There was no mention of a suspected illness/infection or mentions of him having diarrhea at the adoption. There was no mention of any current ongoing medical treatment at his adoption, and I was not sent home with any type of medication for him. All I received was his ppaer work, a bag of dry food, a can of wet food, a blanket for his carrier, and assorted treats and toys. As evidenced by previous reviews ear infections are commonly missed at this facility and based on my experience they do not review medical records thoroughly enough before placing cats in a group environment. It has also come to my attention that upon receiving their cats they do not take them for any type of vet assessments as the only medical records I received were from when he was still in the Cayman Islands. They only take the cats to the vet when something is noticeably different, a risk when you don't know a cats personality as you don't know what changes to look for. Go with a reputable rescue or shelter that does regular vet visits when they receive their cats and are able to properly monitor their health. Toe Beans would rather pin all the blame on the new owner and the vets who worked to ensure the health and comfort of the cat than take accountability for their mistakes and actions. I was told on June 2nd that the rescue I adopted Orion through would reach out to me about my concerns regarding his hospitalization and the lack of care he received at Toe Beans, I have yet to be contacted by them. TLDR; Don't adopt from this cafe, they do not take care of their cats and will become extremely defensive and argumentative when confronted about this.
