I know there are a lot of negative reviews, but I don't have any. I loved my apartment at The Lowell and never had anything negative happen to me. At the time when I lived there, there was grocery store on the next block and a tiny connivence store around the corner. At times the neighborhood would get rowdy, but it definitely wasn't all night or every day. Never had management take my money or my belongings. I didn't have any bugs, because I kept my apartment spotless. My only complaint was that people kept pulling the fire alarm which was a bother, but that had more to do with people who threw parties where everyone was drunk. Now that it's been remodeled, I'd love to see what it looks like now. read more

DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!! Lowell Apartments or any owned by this "company". THIS BUILDING IS A SCAM!!! Don't let the nice location and old charm sway you. They WILL take all your money, sanity, and belongings and make you feel crazy for wanting a clean and safe apartment. It would be your worst decision to move here. PLEASE TAKE MY WORD FOR IT!!! I am only giving 1 star because I have to and because the location and old charm are nice. However I was staying here for barely a month when I got BED BUGS!!! I have been going back and forth with them for months on that issue and other hot water and cleaning issues but gotten nowhere and now have to move out. I'll have to hope that the items I bring to my next spot are not infested and will lose items as well. I was hoping this place was going to work out as it seemed to have so much promise but allowing people to live in uninhabitable units and still asking them for rent is ridiculous. I can't wait to leave! UPDATE 1/11/22: I have left and lost many things but am so happy to be free. They treated me with such disrespect just for wanting a livable home. I have also now heard that there are issues with heat in the building and tenants are being encouraged to buy their own heaters and blankets. There also is still the issue of no hot water. Residents were told the issue would take longer than 24 hours to fix and it's not the first time people have had no access to hot water. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE Update March 2022: I moved out in December 2021 and in the spring I was checking my credit and found out that this place was trying to charge me $4500!!! I was never notified of this in any form (letter, call, email, text, in person) and there is no reason I should pay it. UPDATE 5/3/25: I have been disputing this charge with my credit companies for 2 years. But an article by the WSJ called 'Landlords Have a New Hardball Tactic: Tanking Your Credit Score' lets you know EXACTLY what Lowell is doing. They are trying to tank my score with a fake charge that I do not owe! I was literally told by the property manager that he was going to get an eviction notice for me if I did not leave (because I didn't want to live with BED BUGS, NO HEAT, NO HOT WATER, NO FRIDGE, and SLUDGE IN MY SINK!) So of course I packed up everything that I could and left!! Now have to live with that charge on my credit and hope it doesn't affect me. Also have to live without the many items I had to leave behind in that apartment because I could not clean all the bed bugs off of them. Where do I start... I live at Theresa Renee Apartments on E Thomas St. I chose this building for its charm over Mason & Main, based on promises from management that the unit would be fully prepared--floors sanded and refinished, walls repaired, and the bathroom ready by move-in. That did not happen. Upon moving in, it became clear the unit was not properly prepared: * Floors are dirty, with paint splatter and deep scratches * Walls have visible cracks, poor patchwork, soft/crumbling drywall, and nails/anchors painted over * A hole appeared in the wall, along with rodent droppings * Rusted hardware is bleeding through paint on doors and windows * Nearly all windows are painted shut (reported early March, still unresolved as of April 4 -- major safety hazard) There are also serious maintenance concerns: * Mold is growing through the caulking in the bathroom (it was painted over before move-in and has returned) * Bathroom sink has no hot water and very low pressure * Radiators turn on by themselves, overheating the apartment--even when set to "off" With no functional windows and uncontrolled heat, the unit becomes excessively hot, especially on sunny days. It's now been over a month since I first reported these issues, and they remain unresolved so my review will not change. If you're considering moving here, inspect the unit thoroughly--preferably on a sunny day so you can catch issues that aren't obvious otherwise. read more

RENTERS BEWARE!! I have lived at Theresa Renee apartments for almost 4 years. During this time, they have cycled through so many property managers. Some have been ok, and most have been non-responsive and incompetent! Overall, this has been the worst property management company I've ever dealt with! For the first 3 years, utilities have been included, and then they transitioned to Third Party Billing in a very sneaky way. I'm now paying $250 over my base rent for a studio apartment. They are not adhering to the Third Party Billing ordinance that requires them to either post utility bills on site or provide them upon request, and I have submitted a complaint to the city. They are also highly non- responsive when it comes to emails and work orders. I have paid out of pocket for many work orders that have been ignored for months or not done properly. I have also had to threaten to hire professionals and take it off my rent. I will never rent with this management company again! read more

I was quite literally chemically poisoned living at one of their properties. The Clarwood specifically. Upon move in the apartment was covered in a fine white powder that was not present during the initial tour. Turns out it was an industrial grade chemical that you are supposed to wear a RESPIRATOR around. I couldn't breathe in the unit, was gaslit by the property manager, and upon move out was told they'd cc me on an email to discuss refunding my lease break fee and deposit (which they never did despite me asking multiple times). Now I'm seeing that they've also reported me to debt collections for an additional $1300 even though I paid them a full $2000 lease break fee on top of my deposit, and they are the ones who owe me $3000. They have not responded to my emails or phone calls since I moved out. Luckily I didn't stay in the unit more than a few days and all my symptoms went away as soon as I left the unit, but I'm seriously worried for whoever moves in there next. I cleaned up most of the powder myself, but there's definitely enough left to cause health issues. Just not enough of it to be as obvious as it was to me what the cause of the issue is. These people are sleazy af and deserve to be thrown in jail for how they treat their tenants. I hope they go out of business. read more

My building (the Joey Ray) is managed by these guys and maybe i just lucked out, but my manager is awesome! Every work order I've ever put in has been taken care of in a matter of days (if not that very day), and I've accidentally overpaid on 2 occasions and was instantly refunded for every penny, without even having brought it to her attention. One thing to consider is that they don't OWN any building. And if they aren't making the repairs like they should, more times than not, it's the owner who is refusing to shell out the money to have it done. They go thru these companies so that they have someone to hide behind while they behave like slum lords. Im not saying this is always the case, but do consider how often it IS. They don't pay their contractors. They also started charging tenants directly for WSG. Guess what happens if someone moves out? Yea, the amount goes up because there is one less person to split it. They do the BARE MININUM. Carpet had been soaked in 30 year old dog piss. Elevator is always broken. Now it's just trash, I lived in a unit for a whole year with no heat and washers/dryers that did not wash properly and cost over 5 dollars to wash and dry one load. I lived in my apartment for 10 years and had a very positive experience! I love the beautiful vintage details of the apartment. Gives the space so much character and always felt like home! The laundry facilities have been updated so they link to your phone and you always know when your laundry is done! Anytime I needed maintenance, my requests were resolved quickly. I am filing this complaint regarding the failure of Metropolitan Management to properly refund my security deposit after I vacated the rental property. I moved out on 10/01/2024, and according to our rental agreement, the security deposit of $946.75 was to be returned after move-out. I received a check for $946.75 dated on 1 month after move-out, great. However, when I attempted to deposit the check, my bank informed me that the check had insufficient funds and or had been closed and bounced. Since this incident, I have made multiple attempts to contact Metropolitan Management Company by phone and email to resolve the matter. Unfortunately, they have not answered my calls or responded to my emails. I do not know if they are still operating as a business, but they are writing bad checks and avoiding communication at all cost. Hoping that any current residents can share a valid forwarding contact or can fill me in on if they closed or not. Just happy to give a heads up to anyone looking to rent from them in the future. read more

I have been trying for the last month to get my security deposit back and have gotten nowhere I left multiple message and sent emails and have gotten nothing. When I finally got in touch with someone they were so rude and short with me on the phone for absolutely no reason. They stated that they had gotten my numerous calls and e-mail but that the number of times I've called and left message was frustrating to them? I just want my deposit back and a resolution to my issue and if they had gotten all my messages then why the heck didn't they reply to a single one of them. When I had finally gotten them on the phone they stated that Renee was out for a week and that was why they couldn't help me currently? I had never even heard of Renee and when I asked more questions to get things sorted the receptionist was rude. At this point I've put in a complaint at the BBB and am going to also call the city as they are not allowed to keep deposits past 21 days. I lived at the Russo and if you are thinking of renting there the management company should be enough for you to not rent but if you are still thinking about it (I won't lie the units are cute) MAYBE DONT RENT UNIT 213. The walls of this building are sooooo thin that you can hear everything and it is located right above the businesses below. From 9:30am-8pm the music coming through the floors is so loud you can make out every single word. It is especially loud in the bedroom and dining area. It is also kinda of hard to get in touch with maintenance, they tell you they will be there at a certain time and won't show. I also still have the key to the apartment.I have contacted the office trying to figure out how to return them. This is low key a safety issue and they don't seem to care. Which is another reason not to live at this building or in unit 213. read more

Horrible management that constantly mistreats its tenants! The hot water will be off for days at a time, and when it is on it heats way over the allowed health and safety limits. Management also has not paid the utility bill and if they don't do it with the next few days water will be shut off completely at the building. Management hardly ever responds to maintenance requests and has left mold in apartments even when new tenants move in. All they care about is taking as much money from their tenants as possible, they have no cares about forcing their tenants to live without water and in conditions that are hazardous to their health. read more

Pictures say it all lol. Metropolitan management makes money off of raising people's rent while putting them in inhumane living conditions. The back door was left broken for a few weeks and homeless people were sleeping in the basement, stealing packages, you name it they did it. Electricity does not work way too often... As you can see i've also had my texts ignored. Had my door knob rattled multiple times in the middle of the night. Cat poop stinks up the whole place, people abuse the right to have pets here. Managment didn't fix the garbage crisis for 3 weeks and still haven't made an initiative to install security or put a lock on the dumpster. All they care about is you paying your rent on time. It's sad because a lot of the people who work for these buildings are good people dealing with horrible management. There's no excuse for this metropolitan, you are abusing your renters. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS BIZ!!!!!! They break so many WA state landlord/tenant laws! First rented on Cap Hill. Day 2 had to go to Swedish ER with massive bedbug bites inflamed all over my body. They tried to say it was as my fault but then 4 other tenants stepped forward with the same issue. They wouldn't pay for a hotel and I couldn't stay another night. It took them 3 weeks to get the proper treatment to eradicate the bugs. But they didn't spray all units. They finally let me move into another one of their properties 1020 University on 1st Hill. They allowed tenants to Airbnb the units. There were also random people crashing there asking me for groceries. A few units had bed bugs and they spray painted their couch in cap letters. I let an ex bf in and was the victim of domestic violence. I finally escaped and called and emailed Metropolitan. No reply. The police told me not to return til they captured him. Finally 2 weeks later he was arrested and I was able to enter the unit. We removed everything and left it broom swept clean. A temporary manager spoke with us. He said everything was good and thanked us for cleaning it out. Fast forward 18 months later and Metropolitan has put a $5040 collection on my credit report. These people are liars and scandalous!!! read more

DO NOT RENT ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY. I lived in Snowden building that had a lot of problems from mold to break-inns, trash cans overload, drug use, no hot water.... The corridors were stinking and dirty - sometimes took over 10 weeks and numerous complaints to get the cleaning done! House managers have been good and professional but they also gave up quick so over two years there had been 5 managers. Nothing gets fixed. We did not get hot water in the kitchen the full year living there, the windows are so bad that our electricity bill was almost $400/month during the winter. And they have not to this date paid back our deposit. I was so stressed out the whole time living there and still some of our textiles smell moldy and have had to be trashed. Residents need to exercise their tenant rights to the full extent with these slumlords. Call Fair Housing. Call Seattle Office of Civil Rights. Get EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Did you know that the City of Seattle building inspections only pings a $200 charge if your property violates basic fire prevention? While corporate management AND OWNERS get copies of notices every few months, do you think that is a good enough reason to invest in batteries and bulbs? Apparently not. Nearly every apartment rented has either no smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector or are installed with dead or no batteries. Making matters worse, stoves are not properly cleaned and are often installed as a fire hazard. So far we know a dog has died in an apartment as a result of a perfect fire disaster with nothing in place to prevent it. How long before it is a human being? Note: it will not be the fault of the leasee. read more

I recently moved into the Stephensberg apts and the building manager was helpful and responsive and made the process (entirely done remotely) seamless. Any service requests where responded to quickly and the work done well. Despite the building being older, I do believe the building manager works hard to create a welcoming and clean building. I have met several other tenants and they are all friendly and respectful. The online rent payment options are convenient. So far I have been happy with my experiences with the company and the building. read more

The current manager, Jason Barker, only comes to the building on rent collection day. He is their real estate guy but does not have time to speak to or answer emails from residents. Its not just him the upper management is bad as well. He once ran a check I wrote for $5 as $500. I was told by the receptionist they will not take my calls. They say they clean the halls weekly but theres animal poop in the back staircase thats been there for months and they could care less about people going through the dumpsters although we have requested locks. My building is adorable and its the only reason I've lived here for 2 years. Oh also they give rent increases at the end of every lease to the maximum amount allowed by law. Their maintenance company is unprofessional and does a lack luster job. They do not get work orders done within 10 business days as they claim. Examples: your old fridge died so I can get you a new one but not the same size so we will just hook it up in your living room and leave the old one there as well. Another example is that they will not do any "extra" repairs on The Maxmillian building right now, a building from the 1920's, becasue they have a leak in the water line in the sidewalk to the building. It has been leaking water into the street for the past 6 years and the management company refuses to do anything about it. The city even tried fining them $500/day until they took action. The leak is still going strong. I don't know how they got around that one. They are certainly not a green company. read more

Do not rent any apartment from this company. This is coming from a former property manager, and resident with this company. I will only speak to renting from them, because if I told the tale of working for them it would take 3 years and too many expletives. I moved out of our charming yet completely not up to code building (I know because I walked the city inspector through the building) nearly one year ago and STILL am receiving utility bills. I have agonizingly walked them through getting me disconnected from this building (THAT I DO NOT LIVE AT) and still, am getting bills. It's almost laughable (if I weren't getting billed by the city) at how ridiculous this company is. The only saving grace is some property managers who really do try their best. I can tell you first hand they are trying to work for slum lords who couldn't care ANY less about the people renting their properties. I sat in many meetings where the company literally was trying to screw tenants over by overcharging them for things (ILLEGALLY). It is not worth your time, or thousands and thousands of dollars (including $$ AFTER YOU HAVE MOVED OUT) to rent from these slum lords. Seriously dodgy people. The company is family owned by a really shady family who only cares about making a buck and clearly has never rented an apartment of their own because they seriously lack empathy. Run. I have interacted With many property management companies and Met Management is by far the worst. They over charge tenants for their own gain when they can't even fulfill simple maintenance tasks. I had a clogged sink for two and a half weeks that was unusable and ended Up having to bring in someone on my own to fix it. They charged me for chipping paint on A door that was originally from the building that was built in the 1950's. If you must rent from these people...take pictures, document everything in writing, and send all communications via certified mail. You will need these things for the court case you will need to bring when they semi-legally try to extort as much money from you as possible. This company is among the lowest of the low-tier management companies in Seattle. During my move-in inspection at the Halmar, a severe leak in the tub drain was discovered. The bathroom flooring had to be replaced. A maintenance person arrived and pulled the flooring and toilet. He then left and didn't return for 5 days, leaving me with no working bathroom. Since this is illegal in the state of WA, I demanded to be given a rent discount as I could not stay in the unit. We agreed on a prorate amount and that was that...until I moved out. The rent credit I had been given appeared on my statement as owed rent. After speaking with the Resident Manager, it was confirmed this was an error and I was assured the situation would be taken care of. I attempted to confirm the outcome with the Property Manager, but she would not take my calls. She then sent my account to collections including the rent balance in spite of my repeated attempts to contact her. My experience in working with the collection agent revealed just how unscrupulous the company is. In response to my dispute the PM lied about conversations with the RM and the documentation contained in my file. When I approached the RM another time to correct the situation, the PM refused to meet with her own employee to discuss it. Without the proper documentation, it's your word against theirs, and they are more than willing to lie. In addition to the general state of disrepair, poor service, inept maintenance, pest problems, safety issues etc. mentioned in the other reviews...this company is, top to bottom, out to rip you off. read more

I couldn't give them zero stars. Metro manages The Crest on Melrose and Denny--a shoddy building which they have recently been trying to "fix up" by badly painting the walls. But other things like, y'know, lights in the hallway that have been out for more than a year are ignored. Anywho, I just recently moved out and received my account statement in the mail. I won't give you the numerical run-down, but I'm just gonna say that they screwed up. Big-time. About $200 worth. I happen to know that this isn't the first time they've done this kind of stuff, either. A couple years back, my friend moved out of the same building and they attempted to get her to pay $800 for new carpets--when there was nothing wrong with them! To this day, she is harassed by credit companies about this charge that she refuses to pay, because SHE DOESN'T OWE THEM A DIME. TL;DR? Metro will suck your soul, and your pocketbook. They will ignore your maintenance requests, and when they do fix things - they're done so shoddy that you have to continue complaining. We had a massive tub leak for an entire year with them sending someone in just a few times and each time they had basically just 'rigged' it. Never once just replaced the faucet! Hundreds of Gallons of water wasted over the entire 15 months we were at the Westminster in First Hill. Secondly - they STEAL YOUR MONEY. DO NOT RENT HERE This place is a nightmare. We rented at "The Crest" and it is literally the worst apartment I've rented from in 10 years and I've lived in Ohio, Toronto (Canada), NYC, and now Seattle. Our apartment wasn't finished in time to move in. Our move-in was delayed by 2 weeks and the floors were never finished and the walls were never entirely painted (one coat and 1/8th the walls weren't even painted - it looked like someone handed a 10-year-old a paint brush and said "have at it"). Neither the dishwasher nor washing machine worked on move-in. The washing machine was fixed, but I didn't have a working dishwasher for nearly a year. The refrigerator and oven also broke and it took longer than the allocated legal time limit for them to fix both problems. The previous tenant lost their deposit for handy work that was not tended to (they were charged for new counter tops - that weren't replaced; and a paint job that wasn't even halfway finished) The electrical wiring is a nightmare and most of the plugs don't work. One of the maintenance people looked terrified when he saw the hack job in my unit and patched them over so they're unusable with a comment about fire hazard and the wiring being backwards. This building, built in the 80s, has been severely neglected. Security cameras are inoperable, entrance doors do not close, water damage, etc. My rent is currently $1300 which includes utilities and parking. (No electricity or heat since it's electric.) Rent at this unit 5 years ago would have been $700. Oh yeah, the garage has been broken into 4 times as drug addicts easily find their way inside. We're also on the 4th building manager. Honestly, I have never lived in one of their apartments but I have been trying to get a hold of someone to take a look at a unit that was posted but have gotten zero response. I emailed a few days ago and got nothing so decided to email again from a different address - I got a response saying I needed to call the office to schedule an appointment. I had already left a voicemail previously but got no response so I called again and left yet another voicemail and ALSO responded to the email with the day and time I wanted to view the apartment. No response. If this is how they treat potential tenants I can only imagine how they must treat the poor souls already stuck in a lease.
