Shun and his team provide the most compassionate mortuary service I have ever experienced. They made sure my nephews home going was exactly as his mother wished from the location to the service. Our singer could not make it at the last minute, and the Metropolitan Mortuary team provided a wonderful singer to replace ours. All costs were well explained with no surprises. What is really special about this team is how they read the family. We had to make arrangements distant with lots of family travel. They impromptu read the cards for all the flowers sent and it meant so much because some family could not make it. I would highly recommend Metropolitan for your celebration of life and home-going. When my mother was first hospitalized we didn't realize we were on the way to saying our goodbyes. When she was approved for Hospice we were advised that someone would help us choose a mortuary. It turned out I had to research on my own. I had a really good feeling about Metropolitan, and it turned out to be right. I first called just to get information, and Shun guided me through the process. When the time came we knew that Mom was in good hands. Again, Shun was so reassuring and answered every question. Metropolitan is compassionate, honest, and the value is unbelievable. We were not charged any hidden fees or anything extraordinary. You will be remembered as being on our angel team. What a great mortuary. Shun treated us like family and honored our loved one's wishes. The value is unbeatable. In an attempt to make prearrangements, our loved one was called home sooner than expected but Shun answered all of our questions and made himself and his people available to our family to prepare same day. The office is very nice and clean however considering it's in a semi-industrial area, it can be tricky to find. The chapel accommodated our family and friends comfortably. Shun allowed us to set up the memorial to our preference with no pressure to add on things we didn't want. Our family made a museum out of the chapel with an employee Chris as our chapel aide. Shun took care of the programs, all we had to do was just send photos and some paragraphs. There was a computer for us to showcase our own video and slideshow in the chapel, although Shun offered to alleviate us from this. We brought in our own playlist, photos, and film to show during the service on a flash drive. There is also a reception type room for repass/refreshments in case you don't want to bring the service to your home. Shun also personally put our loved one's remains in our urn jewelry we brought in and presented it to us during the service which was so nice of him! He could've just sent us home to figure it out ourselves, but my mother and I left happy knowing that we left to the professional. I have to say that I hope I don't have to do business with them again soon lol! For now, I am recommending this mortuary tenfold. read more

I very rarely write reviews for funeral companies, but I felt it necessary to do so - with the permission and on behalf of the family that actually received the services from this Mortuary and it's Director, Mr. Shun Newbun. I've read some of the reviews and none of them reflect the experiences that I observed. As a Home Health Care provider who specializes in Geriatric Hospice Care, I was in professional awe from the moment this family and I met Mr. Newbun. Unlike other Mortuaries, Inglewood Mortuary to be specific - Mr. Newbun visited the home of the family to meet with the husband and to discuss the necessary and very sensitive details of how his company would provide care for their love one. He answered questions and responded to every phone call, text and email -quickly and efficiently. But most importantly, the care he took with the Mrs and how he made her look on the day of her funeral services was absolutely mind blowing. The careful attention to detail that he and his staff took to ensuring that she looked, not only beautiful - but so much like herself - amazing and so well preserved. It is definitely not my place to tell anyone which Mortuary to use for their love ones, but after personally witnessing the professional services and the loving care that this family received - I must SPEAK OUT about this Mortuary and its Director, Shun Newbun - simply and NO doubt about it - the BEST Mortuary in Southern California. I will begin by saying that Metropolitan is a HIDDEN GEM, it truly is... If it were possible to give great star rating than 5 I definitely would. In our situation our abuelita passed away here in the U.S., not the way we all imagined, in her home of Mexico. Years ago I came across this kind gentlemen (Shun Newbern). I recalled that he was at that time opening his own mortuary. Being an emotion mess and simply not knowing where to begin, I immediately looked for Shun on Facebook and messaged him regarding his services. Shun promptly got back to us with his condolence and service price list. I immediately presented it to the family and we chose the package to have a viewing/memorial and then cremated. His prices were very reasonable, which helped the family mourn our loss rather than worry about the financial impact. WHAT DO WE DO, WHERE DO WE GO, WHERE DOES ABUELITA GO, AND HOW DOES ABUELITA GET FROM HERE TO THERE...? This was an absolute first for us, my sister and I handled the services. Birthday parties, no problem, but funeral services... deep sigh. Shun held our hand the entire time, handled everything, even services that slipped our mind, such as prayer (how could we forget that). Abuelita did not have a church that she attended here in the U.S. Metropolitan Mortuary staff set-up an alter area for a priest to come in and hold a catholic mass for us. We would not have thought about this, Shun asked what church we were going to have mass for abuelita. How could this have slipped our minds, such a big detail, but Shun handled it for us - we were in the dark and Shun guided every step of the way, from start to finish. I feel like my story is all over the place, let me break it down a bit from the point after we selected a package: *** Shun sent us documents to fill out to release abuelita to Metropolitan Mortuary, once Shun received all required documentation he immediately arranged to pick-up abuelita at the hospital, the day after she passed. This made us feel more at peace knowing she would not be at the hospital long. *** My sister and I had multiple conference calls with Shun, we had so many questions - never realized how much there was involved in arranging funeral services and all the administrative work behind it all. *** Border Patrol (who knew?)... For family members coming into the U.S. from Mexico, Shun had to provide documentation as proof to acquire permission to temporary cross the border for this emergency situation. *** Chapel and audio/visual: They have a beautiful chapel (not sure if that's the term, but lets roll with it) set-up with a podium, stage, pews (seating throughout) monitors for our slideshow, which we set-up with about 100 of grandma's photos, the music was peaceful meditation since we did not have a playlist of our own - it was perfect though... *** The day of the viewing/memorial, abuelita was beautiful!! I am beside myself just how beautiful Metropolitan's staff made abuelita (I would post pictures but I just don't believe in posted pictures of deceased). The attention to detail - I hope I was able to express to them just what an amazing job they did!! *** Prayer cards were beautiful in color and great quality. We worked with Shun to select the template, photo, and prayer - we requested the prayer be printed in Spanish. *** Their facility was very comfortable, they have an entry room which we set-up easels with pictures. On the console table we placed face masks and sanitizers, a few frames and a signing asking people to mask up in these covid times. The restrooms, very clean and comfy like at someone's home. There was also a room just to the right of the main entrance waiting room that had seating and accommodated tables for food and drink items. *** The staff present during the day of our event were amazing, they were very friend and approachable. They were respectful, accommodating, nice to talk to, attentive, and sympathetic. *** After our memorial services, guess what there are still things to do... but Shun handled that end of it too. *** Mexican Consulate: Who knew you can't just cross over human ashes, not us?? Aside from a death certificate you also need documentation from the Mexican Consulate. Metropolitan Mortuary and its amazing staff were above and beyond my expectation for this hidden Gem!! I would definitely recommend this business to anyone - if you use them, then you will understand why I reference them as a "hidden gem." read more

Losing my mom was hard, but having a caring sensitive mortuary made the process much easier. They were very prompt on picking her up from our house after her 3am pass. They came to our home next day to set up our wishes. We received her ashes in a very timely manner. We used this mortuary for my uncle also and were very pleased. The rates where much less than mortuaries in our local Covina area. We are out of the area but would use this company again. read more

Gosh I don't even know where to begin. When my grandfather passed I was still in shock but had to get things done. Mr. Shun was so sweet and nothing short of amazing. He took all my thousands of questions with grace and understanding and helped me out beyond my expectations. I had a very short time frame to have everything situated with my grandfather and Mr. Shun did everything he could in his power to get everything taken care of and he did. We were able to have a beautiful burial at sea with my family (my brother who is in the navy was home on a short leave from Spain ). Ive known shun for over 20 years. He is a superior friend as well as a beautiful soul, shun has been there for my family at our worst times, recently i lost my brother at 1am i called him he was enroute, his embalming skills and attention to details are amazing by brother was 89 pounds when shun picked him up, if u saw him the day of his service you wouldve thought he just napping.. and everyone that saw him and knew what he went thru said the same thing. I could write a book on how dedicated shun is to his families that he serves but if you are in need of a mortuary this is where u want to go and id bet my right hand you will say the same thing after you meet him and see his work. read more

From the first conversation that I had with Shun he was very helpful and acted with compassion. Last year my mother was placed on hospice and the nurses told me that I had to find a mortuary just in case. My mother's chaplin gave us a company and they reached out to me but something told me to keep looking. I turned to Yelp and found Metropolitan Mortuary. I called and gave them my mother's information. When you're going through a hard time with a loved one who is sick sometimes you don't know what kind of questions to ask or what to expect. Shun was very calm, helpful and resourceful from the first point of contact. I appreciated the fact that Metropolitan had a website and a price booklet online so there's no guessing to what you can expect to pay. No pressure to buy something that you don't want and no pressure to get the most expensive package. My situation with trying to get my mom laid to rest was kind of challenging but Shun stayed in contact with me and assisted me with my challenges with the VA. He helped find a chapel and all the other arrangements. His staff was also very helpful at the viewing, dressing the body and the service. When you're going through a difficult time like this you're not always in your right mind to take care of business because grief may already be sitting in. They were sincere and genuine about handling the care and procedures for cremating my brother. My husband passed on 12/19/20. Our daughter and I began the process of looking for a black owned business (recycling black dollars) and Shun of Metropolitan Mortuary popped up. We chose black establishment for the reason of someone knowing of black skins and hair texture in preparation. We got immediate appointment . On the Monday after husband's death, we made contact with Shun, owner proprietor, whom greeted us with a smile and words of encouragement. All the necessary documents were and contract completed. Services were one week later. I was apprehensive about my husband and his viewing. My husband looked absolutely wonderful. It was as if they knew Mr Egbert Moguel personally. Professionalism, respectful to family, all telephone calls returned and questions answered. In living in the I.E. did not know if any establishment of this magnitude were present. The facility was beautiful and adequate. During this time of COVID, all compliance's were met, as well as all telephone calls returned. This was a one stop shop. The chapel was beautiful and the staging was excellent. All of us in attendance were so ecstatic about the end result. I will be will personally making referrals to this facility. The staff was accommodating to my guest as well as myself. Thank you Shun and Metropolitan for making the worse day in my life, a true celebration of my husband life. I never thought I would be writing a review for a mortuary, but after the amazing experience I had with Metropolitan Mortuary I absolutely had to write this review. Shun and his staff were absolutely amazing when I had to lay my dad to rest, Shun was there for me and my mom every single step of the way . He answered-every single one of my calls and I believe I called him at least 20 times through this heartbreaking process .and This was during the Christmas season . Shun made us feel like we were family , he treated my dad like he was a member of his family . Please please if you ever have the unfortunate task of having to lay some someone to rest in the inland empire , Metropolitan Mortuary is the only place you need to go . Shun even created a slide show of pictures of my dad to show at the service . It was beautiful . Absolutely unprofessional and disrespectful. Today we had a funeral service for my grandfather. Not once, but three times we politely asked your employee to step aside and stop taking his own photos, and allow our family to take photos with my grandfathers flag draped casket and the military honors being performed. Sadly, he chose to stand directly in front and didn't allow any images. He said he wasn't moving and argued with four different people when asked politely. Who does that? We sadly got no images that the family requested because of your employee. Additionally, he refused to let my father touch his fathers casket because he didn't want "prints on it." Who tells a son they can't touch their fathers casket if they wanted to touch it twenty times so be it. Your employee was arrogant, rude, non-compassionate and certainly shouldn't be in this business. Additionally, when draping the casket he smirked, provided dirty looks and failed to provide any viable instructions to those carrying the casket and then proceeded to provide dirty looks. When my grandmother wanted to see her husband one last time, your employee decided he would control who would see the body and when. Get this, he started closing the casket as my grandmother was walking up to see her husband of 60 years one more time. Your employee then decided to argue with my Uncle about letting the children say one last goodbye. You can rest assured I will be going to the Better Business Bureau regarding this poor deliverable of service. Additionally, I think you should provide your employee proper training when dealing with these matters. I have never in the various services I have attended where the mortuary worker stands right graveside in between the family??? Lastly, feel free to review all the photos your worker took while right in the middle of everything vs. allowing us to grieve and pay our respects to my grandfather. Who argues with the customer? I would NEVER use your company again and I will ensure to share my review with anyone who will listen. I suggest the owner contact my Uncle to provide some resolve for this terrible experience that sadly was a one time opportunity... your worker deserves to be unemployed and would be better off not dealing with the public... read more
